And he' s the one who knows that their 5 piece classic line up was 'greater than the sum of its parts'.
Phil was in a pretty bad way around this time and not in a good mood at all that night.
I think he was pissed off by the general indifference and lack of response from the crowd
I know...while Trey was talking, his stare could kill someone at 100 yards...
@@JamesKovacic I've read his book and he had way more problems than that at the time
@@Bryan8329 what were some of the problems? I know that he had something going on with his back that wasn't allowing him to play
@@greendaleforever He was having major neck and back issues. Lots of pain. He couldn't drum anymore. I believe he's had some surgeries where things have been alleviated. I believe he can play again but probably not to a great extent like before.
God that seemed awkward. Peter not there. Tony not speaking. Steve promoting a tour?
Steve Hackett - the guy that invented tapping not that other guy.
They needed to wait a bit longer for the Phil Collins Effect to catch on. This looks like the period of time when they were not popular.
Can someone explain to me how why Genesis was inducted before, and i mean waaay before, YES?
Probably because Genesis had more commercial success. Not a very good reason though...
@@NT-co1qw Silly question. You should ask why Jethro Tull, ELP and Wishbone Ash are still not there.
Because they translate to the rest of the world - a perspective which prog fans don't seem to have.
Because they're better.

Sad to see such a bloodless, uninspired and unprepared speech by all of them, especially Phil.
Well Phil was probably desperate to get back to the bar at this point sadly.
What is a speech? The five albums they did with Gabriel are tattooed into my brain and heart till the day I die. I have forgiven all their mistakes.
I LOVE YOU STEVE HACKETT YOUR EXIT FROM GENESIS RUINED THE BAND I MUST CONGRATULATE TONY BANKS FOR HAVING THE COURAGE OF LOSING SUCH A GENIUS GUITARIST LOVE YOU STEEEVE

Just where in the hell was Peter? Let me guess parking the car?
Rehearsing for his solo tour back then
Did you actually listen to the speeches?
@@kelvyn_araujo they always seem to bring up that "reason" why he's not there when genesis gathers for group events like this
Just rewind the video and watch the first few minutes. All kinds of stuff going on with Phil. His body language says volumes. He is first in and happy and meanders to the right as the other guys walk in behind him, now watch his body language when Steve walks in to the left, Phil gets really uncomfortable and you can almost sense he’s thinking “what’s he doing here”. Later Steve is pacing back and forth behind them. Very very strange.
I don't think it's anything to do with Steve. Of the other 3, Phil probably has the best relationship with Steve. Tony is probably the most distant with Steve, he's also the only one to not collaborate with Steve on anything outside Genesis that I know of. But I can't imagine all these years later there's any hard feelings left.
@@krob5375 Steve invited Tony for the Genesis Revisited, something Tony decided to not go because he was going to start the Calling All Stations album project. On the other hand, i have read people complaining that Tony hasn't cooperated with Steve or even played live, when the reality is that outside of Genesis, all he has done is solo work and nothing more, hasn't cooperated with any other solo work from anybody else, at most helped some bands kickstart their career, but composition or playing? Not at all.
Phil was suffering from alcoholism and back pain problems at the time, as said in his book, he shouldn't have gone to the event. When Steve talked, it wasn't prompted, the queue was for everyone to leave the stage, even the cameras changed, that's because he didn't tell anyone he was going to say anything.
Of all the songs they picked, they used "turn it on again." Knowing hof like I think I know them, THEY wanted the 5 Guys, so what a disrespectful thing to do by using that music. They could've used The Lamb. "Well, most of the people there don't know that one."🥴 Too bad for them, THEY SHOULD!
They should have to use BOTR, or Entangled, Mad man moon, One for the vine, Squonk, Ripples, Dance on a volcano, 11 earl or something of the G4 periode
I Know What l Like would have been more appropriate, since all 5 were on it, and maybe 4 or 5 people there would have recognized it.
Well, that's the only "modern" song they played with Peter Gabriel on Six of the Best.
I went to a Genetics with Steve Hackett concert and the "wait" music was Many Too Many, nobody complained and i see no harm on it, you just need to represent the band... i sometimes can imagined Steve playing the stuff after he left (he did play 3 chords from Invisible Touch once as a joke though lol)
@@schimnesthaisbasement5015 Steve Hackett & Peter Gabriel were getting Their Flowers as well for being in the Band. They could've at least found a song They played on. I think it was Lazy on hof to not do so.
Hackett is the man!
Everyone going on about Hackett. To me. Just looked a bit embarassing. Couldnt keep still in the background looking like hes trying to get on camera, and even more embarrassing jumping on the mic as they are walking off to tell everyone about tour dates..
I love his touches of brilliance from his Genesis days but can people get a grip.
People conveniently forget Hackett released some lightweight pop fluff in the '80s too
back then if you still wanted to "hear" the Genesis sound all you had to do was listen to Peters band, Phil was and is still the MAN in my book!
I beg
to differ:
Steve's efforts remained the truest to the 'Genesis sound' -
and I'm not talking about the 'Revisiteds'!!

What a shame Peter wasn't there.
Genesis without Steve was only an commercial pop band with susscess
I don't care what anyone says. Phil Collins IS and WAS Genesis. Legend of legends.
I liked them better when he was the drummer and Peter Gabriel was leading the band
I do prefer the Gabriel era, but I call myself an all-era fan because they're all pretty damn good (the last album notwithstanding).
Gabriel, Hackett, Banks, Collins and Rutherford WAS Genesis.
disco Genesis maybe
It was a different band pre-1975, more creative as well, if not as "radio friendly". But neither was Rush, they made it to the HoF without becoming pop shills.
No Anthony Phillips and John Silver there? These guys were original members. Bullshit
John Silver wasn't the original drummer either.
Anthony Phillips left Genesis because of incurable stage-fright. You think he'd stand in front of a RRHOF crowd and give a speech?
Peter was not there because Tony was there…
People say their Genesis fans...yeah sure you do until 1978? From Trespass to Calling All Stations this band can do no wrong in my eye. What diversity...The Musical Box yes..Carpet Crawlers..yes. Turn it on again..yes. Mama..yes...Congo...you better believe it. I’m the biggest fan so stfu! Lol

I remain disappointed that Daryl Stuermer and Chester Thompson are not considered full members of this band.
They never recorded with the band, that’s probably why unfortunately. Chester wanted full member status for Calling All Stations, Mike and Tony refused and so he quit until Phil came back.

It's just a shame what Phil did to Genesis after Peter left.
Just a crying shame.
Nothing worth a damn after the Lamb.

How lame
Bruh, even if you bitching about artistic-prog-rock qualities of Peter's era, there are still A Trick of the Tail
and Wind & Wuthering, which were in the spirit of previous albums. And each of the prog bands, who wanted to survive 80's, had to change and evolve in some way.
or your idiocy!
Dig their prog stuff, but someone had to approve of the more poppy stuff. After all, much of the foundation the group was still there. I like both Peter and Phil and what they brought to the table.
Phil collins didn't do anything to genesis was other genesis members that did it. Why do you guys keep saying this. It was proved that he was not the cause. Peter Gabriel on one the documentary said himself that phil didn't ruin genesis.
