- Today I react to the official trailer for #Universal's new adaptation of the #Broadway #musical #Wicked, based on L. Frank Baum's #WizardOfOz, and discuss from the perspective of a Christian pastor.

The author of the Wicked novel was actually inspired by some of the darker, rather horrific story elements hidden in the L. Frank Baum text. For instance, when Dorothy faces the Wizard for the first time, he tells her more or less: "If you want me to use my magic to help you get back home, you have to do something for me first. KILL the Wicked Witch of the West!" Which is a pretty crazy demand to make of child. That kind of made him think: There has to be more backstory between those characters.
Also, the name given to the witch, El-pha-ba, is a nod to Baum's initials, L. F. B.
Oh and Peter Dinklage isn't playing a munchkin, he's voicing the goat teacher, Dr. Dillamonth.
