    Floor is in no way someone who thinks too high of herself. She is extremely humble, grateful for everything she has, has survived breast cancer, and is a mother too 2 beautiful daughters. It's funny you're making a judgement on a woman you know nothing about. How Christian of you sir.

    • @TheLightSideReactions
      @TheLightSideReactions 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@GwenTripleG1967 I never judged her at all. I know nothing about her personally aside from the lyrics of her song, which is what I was critiquing (and that's literally my job as a reviewer). I think I was pretty clear in my analysis that my criticism is of our society's over-emphasis on self-love. I've consistently stated here and elsewhere that I believe self-confidence and valuing one's self-worth are important, but also that it's more important to value others above ourselves (which is a clear Biblical concept, so it should come to no surprise that it should be promoted by a Christian pastor). My concern is that our society has taught us to be selfish at others' expense. Not that this was her intent with this song, but that was a thought that came to mind while I was listening to the lyrics for the first time. I hoped to make that distinction clear by my reference to the song "The Greatest Love of All." If you go back and listen again, I'm sure that you'll find that the comments you referenced were clearly not directed at the artist, but in reference to people in general, including myself, as I expressly stated. So in case I was not clear in my live, unscripted, spontaneous reaction to my initial hearing of her song for the first time, let me clarify here: My comments and criticism (postitive and/or negative) are not intended to reflect on the artist personally, but rather on the message that I perceived the song in question to be promoting. First impressions are not always correct, and the nature of live reaction videos lends itself easily to those types of misunderstandings. That's another reason why I value the comments section, as it allows me to get your feedback and perhaps make clarifications, or even possible retractions as more information is shared. The comments in my reaction to Beyonce's song "Freedom" is a good example of that. Thank you for expressing your concerns about my review, and I hope this reply clears them up.

    Floor is certainly not a 'diva'. She considers herself a 'musical nerd' and an eternal musical student seeking to fill her already overflowing musical toolbox. After participating in the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers' in 2019 with mindblowing performances, she finally got the recognition in her home country where she was relatively unknown until then. Shortly after the Covid situation evolved however with forced home isolation and concerts with Nightwish postponed. The line "I wake as the second girl crawls headfirst up my throat, a flower blossoming out of the hole in my face" is metaphorical. The imagery of the girl crawling up her throat and a flower blossoming from her face suggests a process of giving birth to a new version of herself or aspects of herself, new ideas, identities, the birth of a new voice or the articulation of previously unspoken truths. Which brings us to the line: “Lord, forgive me, I've been running-running blind in truth.” I think that line can be interpreted as an expression of seeking forgiveness for having been lost or misguided, running blindly in a flawed path possibly ignoring important truths or realities of life. This could be Beyoncé acknowledging that she may not have been vocal enough in the past about issues affecting black women and black people in general, but now an empowering voice is blossoming out of her face. Anyway, I appreciate you being unbiased with your opinions and thoughts about the song, and for honestly sharing your views on Beyoncé as an artist without being rude about it. And I understand that not everyone is a big fan of her, and it's totally okay if her music isn't your cup of tea. However, I do believe that she has earned the hype and praises she receives. Beyoncé is an eeeextraordinary singer, a great dancer, and an amazing performer who puts immense effort into every aspect of her craft, and she’s consistent with it. She creates empowering songs and consistently delivers great albums. On top of her talent, she is known for being a very nice, down-to-earth, and appreciative person despite her success. People don't just go crazy over and for her for nothing. Also, The mainstream songs you might have heard from her don’t fully represent her as an artist. She has a lot of other music and stuff that showcases her range and depth as an artist and as a person. But ultimately, you still might not like her other stuff because y’know it's not for everyone and it's all a matter of personal taste. But I think it's only fair to say that the admiration she receives is well-deserved and not overrated, considering all the incredible things she has done as an artist and as a humanitarian. And thank you for taking your time reacting to this song. It’s a great and thoughtful reaction!

      @@Lemongraass Thank you for your thoughtful comments and enlightening me to the metaphors that I misunderstood. I think the face-birth metaphor confused me because on my first listen, I missed that she was referencing two different births in the verse. Your explanation fits very well with the imagery of the black women sitting & watching while she struggles with her chains, symbolizing their complicity in her plight. With this understanding, the metaphors in that verse make much more sense to me.

      That was the meaning I received from it when he was reading it, the second was a rebirth of herself, after you have a child, you realize the strength and power to bring forth life you possess and it changes you, she wanted to be the strong woman and mother her daughter deserved to have, to not pass on to her old burdens, like the sins of the father in the bible, that she wanted herself and daughter to be free from stereotypes and old expectations, to be free to achieve what they wanted from life. The rest of the poem at the end is about the black experience with police and society. I am no poet but I do enjoy poetry and song lyrics, these are exceptionally great and deep in expression, I just go off of the feeling they instill in me because it is the same as a piece of art, it's what you get from it.

    The video you watched is part of a film (a visual album called Lemonade). It makes no sense because the story is longer and this particular song is almost at the end. Beyoncé's Lemonade album delves into themes of personal and collective empowerment, resilience in the face of betrayal, the journey through pain and healing, self-discovery, the celebration of Black identity and womanhood, familial and ancestral roots, social and racial justice, and the exploration of love and forgiveness. So the poetry you heard makes more sense in the context of the album’s narrative, but not so much if you see it like this. Sorry for my English, I get that you pay attention to that. I agree to your statement that Taylor Swift is overrated. She is a good song writer and singer, but a mediocre performer. In my opinion, Beyonce is the full package that Michael Jackson or Elvis Presley were for the older generations. She is by far the best live performer alive (I experienced it first hand and I’d never seen anything even close to it). She still sings live and dances on stage for 2-3 hrs straight at age 42 (25+ in the industry). She approached all genres in the book and always evolves with each album and project. She is just inspiring, which might seem like she is overrated.

      @@TheLightSideReactions I would recommend 3 live performances to begin with: the Stevie Wonder tribute she did in 2015 I believe (here is the link: th-cam.com/video/V2wGLgnFg6Y/w-d-xo.html), the 2016 CMA awards performance of her song "Daddy Lessons" (a controversial performance because the country community was not very welcoming of her, here is the link: th-cam.com/video/85Ksi-uzuIg/w-d-xo.html ) and a more recent Oscars performance of her song "Be alive" (a song made for the film King Richard that celebrates Venus and Serena Williams's father, here is the link: th-cam.com/video/4aeDlZOD-B0/w-d-xo.html)

    It is disappointing that we tend to judge an artist based on their radio hits, because that makes us miss the best parts. With Beyonce, I learned that she is truly a one of a kind artist only after I dived into her discography. I noticed that her best music never did touch the radio, because it was vulnerable, real, relatable and sometimes critical towards social and political matters. This song is an example of that. A song you probably never heard of because it brings to attention topics that we are not yet prepared to discuss on or the conversation on it is uncomfortable for at least one of the parties.

      @@amsta0594 I'm learning that fact about Beyonce's music. It makes me want to look into more of her more-obscure stuff and think more critically of the lyrics, rather than just the superficial aspects of her musical style.

    That's not the full official song, but a shortened acapella version featured on the visual album of Lemonade. You might have heard of the album Lemonade, which is one of the most acclaimed albums of all time.
