I'm going to explain all the in's and out's of the recently released Harbor Freight Credit. I'm also going to be covering the Student Excellence Program and the benefits of having one over the other.
I 100% agree. Im about 3 months into my first job as a tech at a dealership and i bought the US General cart right off the bat but am looking for a bigger tool box and i believe i will wait for this credit line to hit ohio to do so. I also wanna add im in a community college and im in the snap on student excellence program and there is select snap on boxes that have the discount. The 56in is still 2000 with the discount and the 72in US General is 1000.... You do the math. Ive been around both and the quality doesn't differ enough to justify the price in my opinion. Appreciate you Justin.
Chris Scheadler May 1st 2020 Comes pretty fast my friend. 🍻 That being said take full advantage of the Student Excellence Program while it’s available to you. Buy what you think you will want later down the road and save your money where it counts. 🍻🤙Cheers.
Are you kidding? The Snap-On box will last you your entire career and you can pass it on. The US General will be broken and the parts will be unavailable in less than a decade. RAV4s cost more than Rogues, but the Rogues will need many more repairs and will last half as long. Which really costs the most? The Rogue.
The u.s general cart my brother bought last month brand new for his garage. seems to be made of almost plastic. And you say the "quality" of us general makes me laugh loudly
I work as a machinist in a tool and die shop. Although it’s not the same field as you Justin, we do end up using a lot of the same generic tools. I strongly agree with you about researching the tools you will need for any field you end up in. Not everything needs to be the top name brand, “made in Swiss” or “made in USA” or whatever. I know when I first started I got to see what other were using on all different applications of the job, and from there I chose what I did or didn’t spend a lot of money on. I have a lot of tools that I call “beater” tools from HF, these are tools that I don’t mind buying again from there if they break or something because they were cheap in price. Actually a lot of those “beaters” I still have and are still in excellent condition. I use the hell out of them! Definitely wish I had the credit line in my area at the time I went out buying because that 0% interest for a certain amount of years I’m really digging. Could’ve gone out and gotten at least 85% of the tools I needed when I first started.
The reality is the vast majority of folks do NOT pay off their debts before the interest strikes. That is a proven fact. Put yourself on a payment schedule that includes principal and pay it off 2 months prior to the final zero percent payment time frame. 👍
Justin, this was a Damn Good Very Well Explained Video For Any New Beginner To The Most Experienced Mechanics Anywhere, To help guide them in The Right Direction on The Best Ways To Buying Tools and Hopefully Gaining Some Good Credit Rating From it!!!!!👍👍👍👍💲💲💲💲
Great info for young guys. I got into the business 27 yrs ago with a small mess of craftsman tools. I spent about $700 dollars. After a few years I upgraded to a kobalt box. After 20yrs I finally bought a snap on box. I paid cash for it and got the box at a 48% discount because it was in the truck for months. My dealer could not sell it due to the high cost. Lucky for me I was in the market at the right time. Point is you can make money with hand tools and a 5 gallon bucket. You dont need a date with the rape van ever week. Be smart kids, shop around.
Awesome video brotha making your point based on facts that's what it's all about keep bringing the truth no matter what and I'll keep smashing the like button
Synchrony bank is pretty good. I have furniture financed through them with 0% apr. took only a few minutes to be approved. Can pay bill right online. No issues so far.
Hello Justin Thank you for the Great Video. You nailed it. And this is not just for the automotive industry either. I didn't know about Harbor Freight's credit line. Otherwise, I've had that same talk with new Aircraft Mechanic's. And thank you for updating me.
80% of people do not pay their loan off in the allotted timeframe and get hit with 27% interest. And that interest is not on the remaining balance, you get back charged all that interest from the date of the account opening. Horrible idea. Pay cash or dont buy it.
What I was going to say. A lot of people don't realize that if they buy during a 0% interest promotion, and don't pay off the entire balance within the predetermined time frame, they are hit with retroactive interest from day one. They find out when they look at their statement and see an entry for several hundred dollars of interest. I made that mistake once.
Great video Justin. Question, did you keep that gearwrench 243 mechanics tool set from one of your previous videos? If so, how’s it holding up? Seemed like a nice set when you showed us in your video. I’m just a shade tree mechanic but I wouldn’t mind splurging on that set.
Justin the way you were just picking up them icon tools like you weren’t even looking at the prices.🤣🤣🤣 I’m getting this one this one this one oh yeah I’m getting this one too.😂😂
Micah Hill 🤣🤣🤣 It’s my wish list basket. Lol One day is like to have an entire ICON Set up at the house. I want to build up a 36” ICON Roll Cabinet with most of what they require on the Automotive Program Tool Requirement list. I will adjust it accordingly & explain my reasoning later, but I’d like to give the Harbor Freight Tool CEO & ICON Team an idea to help promote a similar Student Program that offers an Apprentice Set below normal cost if your a student in a tech program. 🍻🤙
Excellent job explaining the credit offer. Don't forget about the rest of the people who aren't mechanics. Lot's of GIY guys, woodworkers. I'm hoping to get a decent air compressor, those auto coil hose and ckrd reels. Thanks again, Rodney
I would recommend U.S. General. Icon 36 inch cart online is 2800.00 big ones. Not defending snap on but their 40 inch online goes for 2000.00. I'd rather drop the money on the U.S. General and splurge on better tools for jobs you get the most. Like if you are an express tech, get good quality hand tools for oil and general service. It's all about how much you beat up on those tools. As for community college, most don't even enforce the tool list. This is because they have a set or tools assigned to each instructor. If your a smart one please do yourself a favor and look sfor the tool scholarship program, or a tool assistance program if your at a dealer or a franchise shop. Unfortunately independants usually don't have tool programs.
*0% APR is a no brainer. The savings on the Principle, over the time of the balance, is way more valuable than any stupid ass cash back incentive. They pray people fall for that cash back.*
Well put video is there a sign up fee for the credit card to start? I’m a established technician and my purchases are now mostly off the trucks but you gave young techs a lot of options 👍
I'm not a professional mechanic, but I like Snap-On Tools and have been buying them for decades. I generally buy used Snap-On tools that are like new but at a much lower price. I always pay cash and am shocked that professional mechanics rack up huge credit bills on high priced Snap-On Tools. It is so bad that Snap-On has raffled expensive tool boxes in each of their districts. To enter all you have to do is pay every one of your monthly payments on time. I got a brand new Snap-On KRL722 tool box cheap from a mechanic who won one but didn't need it because of course he already had a tool box. Then there is Harbor Freight, the importer of the cheapest, lowest quality, Chinese tools ever made. There is a purpose to Harbor Freight and I buy some things there, like trim pry tools. Most of the tools at Harbor Freight are for homeowners, not professionals. If you need a tool and you expect to only use it once, then Harbor Freight is practical. If the Harbor Freight tool has moving parts, like a drill, don't expect it to work well or last. What this means is if you are a professional mechanic with little money, then you shop at Harbor Freight because their prices are so low you can pay with cash, you don't get a credit line to buy their poor quality tools.
When I went to school for automotive they supplied the tools for class, sometimes wish they didn't so I would have used the discount when I was in school
Great video JD! I’m not in California so when I asked at HF today about the credit I got the “I dunno” look. Do you know if you can pay the balance off early? You indicated there was a minimum payment so I hope that an early pay off is an option. They have so much great stuff now I could see the 3 year plan pretty easy. I just don’t like carrying a balance any longer than I have to if I can afford to pay it all off. Thanks and keep up the great work!
I have no doubt they would let you pay off early. That zero percent off is also equal monthly payments but who is going to argue if you paid it off early. Harbor Freight and the bank get the payment early they then can use the money immediately instead of waiting until the terms are completed by the purchaser and also it improves your credit rating almost immediately
Shane Kirkwood like most any other credit card you can pay off as soon as you want to. They give you a minimum payment requirement but you can always pay more which in turn will help increase your credit score in long-term. It’ll show that you can responsibly put things on credit and pay them off in a timely manner. 🍻🤙
I wish synchrony bank still owned the Walmart store card . They always issued higher credit limits than the new owner Cap1 Amazon uses Chase not synchrony
These are sub prime loans. They don’t help your credit record. Your payment should be payed at least 7 to ten days . They hold your payment for 5 working days before applying it to your account. Also they check your credit every month. Which does affect your credit.
Great film, Dow. I told the Accountant...eerrr Boss...eerrr Wife about the HF credit card. Without hesitation she said, "No, if I can't get a Hobby Lobby credit card, you don't get a Harbor Freight credit card!" I personally won't order tools and auto parts for vehicle repairs from Amazon or the Internet in general, mainly for warranty purposes and the local store is almost always faster and more convenient. I reckon the "Thumbs Down" will be coming from the tool truck vendors.
Great video brother for a bigginer is the best way to start but for long term use icon are just not good you seen it pearsonaly. Especially in there boxes
My question is how do they handle people who don’t make payments? Snap-on Cornwell etc. they will just come repo your shit. Will harbor freight repo? Or just put it against your credit?
just one thing, if you do go the no intrest for X amount of days, years etc, , DONT DARE MISS A PAYMENT, what happens is all the intrest you didnt have to pay will come back and bite you, example, say you got a 3 year note, you pay for 2.5 years, then , you loose your job, the dog ate your homework, whatever, They will go back to the date you opened the account, and toss that 2.5 years on intrest on you, its in the fine print, and GE credit, now called Synchrony, is one of the absulut worst for doing that, dont ask how I know
I was waiting for the hf credit in my area because I was going to get the 73 inch tool box because it’s only 5k. But I’m glad it took so long.. after some research I realized the tool vault TV-722519RC from strictlytoolboxes.com is literally the same thing without the power drawer for 2500 shipped. 3k if I want the spring loaded casters. Same drawer layout.. same colors so on so forth. IMO the power drawer is not worth the extra 2k-2.5k.. at that price point I’ll drill a small hole and install a power strip and grommet to do the same thing. IMO it’s just for batteries because I would never put the tools down that low..
It really all depends on your credit score, history and credit utilization. Most anyone can get approved, but only some will qualify. Worst they can say is no
