Icon has 22" drawers. Series 3 is 19.5" drawers. The Icon IS taller every so slightly. Icon is the box I want but the Series 3 is the price I want to pay.🤷‍♂️

I bought 2 of the 56" Gen 2 a couple of years ago- wound up "loaning" one to a nephew starting out with mechanicing ( he really wanted a Snap On, but between just starting out and starting a family, it wasn't going to happen)
Haven't heard him say a word about Snap On since . . .

Also I think if you have a lot of tools even two of the 34” full service boxes would make more sense than one of the 72” boxes. The 34’s are on sale for $499 so even if you get two you are saving money and they will be easier to move if you ever have to move them.

That’s a great idea. I guess it just depends on how much space you have, and what you use them for.
That’s the cool thing about all the different size combos. One of us “geniuses” will figure out something really cool. Lol!

Well with the service boxes you lose about six inches of storage space, you also have less variety of depth. With the 72 you also have options for a hutch and upper cabinet to save square footage.
The service carts are great for moving from one project to another, the 72s are better to keep at larger jobs, with more specialized tools, there pros and cons to both.
You can get more bang for your buck with service carts, but more tools per square foot with the 72 and an upper cabinet

I like the new top box design with the micro hutch, but I would prefer if they deleted a row of drawers to make that hutch a little taller. That would give it more room for chargers and the big batteries.

I grabbed the green Series 2 72' US General roller cabinet at my local Harbor Freight store on clearance two weeks ago. It had the clearance price of $1,299, but mine was the last one display with a few scratches and missing the tab drawer labels so the manager gave me an additional 10 percent off. THEN since I did not have a Harbor Freight credit card, I applied for the card, got approved, and got ANOTHER 10 percent off of the whole purchase I made including the roller cabinet(I bought a bunch of drawer organizers like the socket trays). I am VERY happy with this. Since the Series 2 and Series 3 are compatible, I plan to buy the green hutch and the side cabinets when they become available. This Series 2 consolidated three smaller triple stacked Craftsman tool carts. My primary tool carts are now this Series 2 72", a stacked gold series Craftsman, a blue collector edition Kobalt roller cabinet, and a Kobalt roller cart with 1/4" and 3/8" socket/driver set loaded drawer.

Harbor freight prices are treading up and up. Shipping cost must be killing them. The bottom 72 box probably cost them around 150 and it’s probably around 150 a piece in bulk for shipping. That’s about right 300 cost total with a 3.5x markup on avg.

Shipping a 40 foot container from China is actually at 2018 rates, now. Last year, rates spiked at over $10,000 per container with some shippers charging $20,000 per container. Still, retailers must make up that extra cost from last year with this year's, (and next year's) merchandise.

In theory, yes. However the bulk of the American work force is now millennials and Zoomers who demand $50/hr to work at McDonald’s and can’t tie their shoes right without watching a TH-cam video. If these tools were made in the US, they’d be as expensive as Crap-On with flea market tool reliability. Manufacturing in the US is not viable unless you’re a millionaire who doesn’t mind spending $450 for a 3/8” ratchet.

    • @survivalSC
      @survivalSC 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@dancooper6002 sure that’s a great idea. But then the cost of the tool boxes would go up 200 percent and no one would buy them. Same with the hand tools. There was a time when made in the USA was great and China was terrible. Today made in USA for many things is not good. And made in China is really good and made in Taiwan is some of the best hand tools and other stuff. It’s a sad world we live in for our country. But in the end this is what people want I guess. It’s hard to be a large scale manufacturing country when our president has a war on oil and natural gas. They don’t want us to have cheap energy. But this is what people want when they vote for most democrats.

I bought one of the General 54" series 2 roll aways couple years ago for primarily for storing raw material in it for my shop. The three lower drawers were tested to their limits on weight carrying capacity. Had to line the bottoms of the drawers with 1 x 12 lumber to keep the bottom from sagging. With all of the weight in the lower drawers, the cabinet started to buckle at the bottom between the long and short drawers. It's now setting on a stack of 4 x 4's to keep it from totally buckling into a disaster. The loaded down drawers are opened slowly so the ball bearing slides don't tear up. Yes, they are lubricated with some light grease. Overall, I'm quite satisfied with the cabinet. Thanks for posting the review. May have to buy a gen 3 in the future.

For storage yes the 3 have more storage going by the numbers but it doesn't because they make up the extra 200 in draw height and a taller height would only be good if you are going to stack tools on top of each other.. The new Husky have the spring assist closing and that keeps the draws tight. The Gen 2 US General with the latch works but I've broken them and then the doors have nothing holding them. We'll see how good are the Gen 3, at least it looks like you can replace the draw locking strip without drilling out a rivet but it's all plastic and might not hold up.

Craftsman is back to making the made in USA red boxes we all know for so long. They have the ball bearing sliders and the drwawers snap into place. Takes a little effort to break then free and then those ball bearing sliders go to work. Smooth as ice even after 30 years! Ive had mine since about 1998 or so. Other than that the 5 inch caster wheels are only held with some rivets and i wouldnt want to overload the box. I still love it. They are not as large as these boxes you show here. My drawers are 22 inch by 16 inch. It works for me. I have limited space. Again, its a craftsman box and its not gonna be what you want for a service garage and every day use but for a DIY guy its perfect!

Just like a lot of the new cars, BLACK Trim! I put out that much money for a new tool box, I want some CHROME handles. "Course, I'm old, but the black looks cheap to me. Any word from your contacts at HF about offering chrome trim packages?

They really should have went an inch deeper but they wanted to stay compatible with gen 2 , that's a poor excuse if that's true. If I'm buying 72" even 56" I'd like a 25" deep min really, the 22" deep works but meh. And a big one Put the drawers in the right ✅️ the wide drawers in the right, like the Matco boxes. Why do I need to go to the corner of the room to open the main drawers. I can't find a gen 2 56" anywhere. I might shoot for a gen 3 56, and wait for the Nov black Friday deals

I have several in yellow, which I really like. But that grey is fantastic. What’s happening with the 26” roller cabinets? Is the Series 2 being discontinued, or is it going to stay around, with not Series 3 replacement? Same for the 44”.

How does the build quality of the Series 2 56" box compare to that of the Series 2 72"? Ive seen videos talking about how great the 72" box is, and ive seen how well built they are, but I havent seen anyone talk about the 56" in comparison. The 72" does seem to be a more premium box with the caster selection, and the price was almost twice as much. The series 3 stuff looks pretty cool, but Im not sure if I wanna wait for the release of the Series 3 56"

If I could give zero I would. I recently ordered a toolchest online,us general 72in to match the one I bought 7 months ago.
It was on clearance, new series was coming. Order went through order in possessing.
I wait about a month 21 biss days for ship, I hear nothing so I call first lady says they are looking for a shipper.
So I wait another week hear nothing so I call and get a lady says sorry item is back ordered and may or may not show up from China and my order will be canceled card refunded is there anything else I can do for you she says. Mean while my card was charged the day I made my order and my credit score dropped aswell when they damn well know they don't have the chest. Harbor Freight is the worst
