    A beautiful steamer. Another reason why I love the steam era and going that way with my layout.

    I think this loco has made your day, what more could you want in Blue. I used to travel behind these in the 1950's going from Kings Cross to Sunderland, fantastic loco's , great you could fix it.

    Another great repair, super model. I'm getting the impression, you are loving the longer trains the new layout allows you. All looking good.

    Another great repair Bill. BTW Miles Beevor was a solicitor and RAF pilot who became acting chief general manager of the LNER briefly after the war, pre nationalisation..

    Hi Bill.
    Even though you do great repair jobs and provide an excellent service for your viewers, I think it's time you put those repairs to one side for the time being and concentrated on finishing your layout. After all, it won't build itself and your viewers certainly won't build it for you!
    Paul. 👍❤️

    Another great repair Bill! When I was a lot younger I was always losing screws from my locos. I glad you can buy a selection in a pack now!

    Hi Bill, A great addition to your fleet. Those spots of glue on the buffer were probably where some one glued some lamps.

    Looks good Bill turned out to be a bit of a fiddle well done. Myself I have a hornby seagull in garter blue, runs an absolute treat after a bit of fettling.

    I know you don't do comments bill enjoyed this one made you scratch your head! But it does look good on the layout, it does make me smile when you use those bent nose tweezers they are like a extension of a your fingers. I admire the way with these models you just don't give up, keep at it my friend Eddy xx

    I have Seagull, blue, with red wheels. Yes, they look so good hauling a rake of teaks.

    Very well done to you for getting this going and fixing it up. I think these are very fine looking locomotives, I have a Golden Fleece. Watching this brought back memories when I went to see Dominion of Canada at St. Constant. Nice little rail trip there from Montreal.

    That is a gorgeous machine. very nice lines. more and more beginning to appreciate british steam. Love the colors. Shapeways also has gears for new axles for bachmann. i've done them on a 2-8-0, worked briilliantly.

    There's nothing to beat a blue A4 hauling a rake if teaks at speed.
    And pairing it was a 9F was a touch if genius: just LOVE both locos!

    Good video. The axels on these bachmann split chassis locos really do let them down.

    Bachmann have new A4 wheel sets in red on their spares website , as well as quite a few other spares for this loco . David

    Very good repair. I don't mind split chassis as I'm sticking with DC for the foreseeable future. That's very nice locomotive. Thanks for showing. Regards Paul.

      I mean, people have shown it's possible to DCC equip split chassis models. it's just very difficult

    Another brilliant repair done, Bill! I was always rather curious about these Bachmann A4's, but the split chassis always put me off of them. But even for their age they still look the business in terms of detailing and running, so perhaps I really should consider getting one of these!

    We've got one in for repair at the model shop I work in and you won't be surprised to learn it has a split axle. A bit of Araldite should fix it no trouble

    Interestingly Miles Beevor wasn't named as such until November 1947, so it would only have been in garter blue for 2 months at most until the LNER was taken over by BR on 1 January 1948! I wonder how long she lasted in that livery after that?

    Cheers Bill. thanks for the video - good detective work in tracking down the electrical fault. The axles are ndeed the achilles heel of the split chassis loco design. I'm wondering if anyone has marketed a better replacement spacer/axle design?

    Because Everybody and his Dog recognises the distinctive shape and lovely Blue colour of Mallard, Let’s Face it, it’s always gonna be Mallard - Tomayto Tomato - May as well just rename & renumber while it’s in the Shed Bill 🥴😜

    Hi Bill, great video. Unrelated to this, I have a loco which is suffering a bad spell of bad wheel quartering. I know you've had a few locos with this issue before, but can't seem to find the exact videos. Could you point me in the right direction to one of your videos where you looked at this please?
    As I live in Ireland, I would have gladly sent to you to do a repair but I know you stick to UK only so it's understandable you probably wouldn't be able to look at this yourself

    Bill the Magician strikes again! I relate to you wanting to yank those rear pickups out. They seem problematic with wires that small it was probably bound to happen. Ah well. Would you say that one of these A4s are worth getting or should I perhaps go for one of the older hornby ringfield tender drive jobs?

    • @dansmodelrailways7886
      @dansmodelrailways7886 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’d go for a newer Hornby loco drive one. Bachmann’s isn’t OO gauge, its a strange cross between HO & OO due to having its origins with Trix. Its a very old tooling. For performance and detail the newer Hornby one is a country mile better than anything that went before.

    • @TheAntisocialTrain
      @TheAntisocialTrain 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have a newer loco drive one, and I'm just thinking about expansion.

    • @oobill
      @oobill  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Of the two I'd go for a split chassis Bachmann over a ringfield driven Hornby. It'll run better and last longer if looked after.

    • @TheAntisocialTrain
      @TheAntisocialTrain 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@oobill nice. Must admit I find split chassis loco relatively low maintenance with a few exceptions *cough cough mainline royal scot*

    Just of interest the streamline wheel covers were they only ever used on the Mallard for the speed runs? Just looking at this it looks all wheels blazing just looks unfinished

    Ive got this model too. Good model for it's age but the bogey wheels are a terrible design and they fall apart. There's a video on my channel of it (short)
