    I am not a modeler,but I truly enjoyed your posting,I live in france, but come from a railway family from Grantham, my grandfather worked for the LNER, from the thirties throgh to 1953, my aunt ran the canteen on Grantham station from the war through to the fifties, and only last year when Mallard visited Grantham I came over to visit my 85yr old father,he dropped in the conversation, he had worked on the railway for a few years when demobbed in1947, and fired "Sir Nigel and Mallard" between doncaster and Kings Cross!!!!!! after that and your piece and that bombshell I am tempted to start

    Was just reading about the GWR s Lady of Lyon which may have reached 130 mph. This was not a recorded run using a dynometer car as in the case of the Mallard. Charles Collet did not want to upset Mr Churchward and put it as 129ish.

    Dominion of Canada is listed on the Hornby website in LNER. It says on this video at 5:07 that it is BR. The real on is LNER, but is was probably (I'm guessing) still in BR when this video was being made?

    I'm not that serious about going out of my way for a model engine. I am a member of The Vintage Trains Society in Birmingham and we recently had Bittern visit us for our open day. we have regular steam runs using standard gauge to places such as York, Liverpool and out regular week-end twin pannier to Stratford during the summer. Anyone fancy joining and keeping mainline steam alive the cost is a very modest £14 per year and entitles you to half price return tickets on the Stratford run. £12.50.instead of the full £25, just mention you heard about it from member 266 Mark

    How are the locomotives coupled to the train I see no couplers no Kadee or any other type of knuckle couplers

    • @2KXMKR
      @2KXMKR 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      He has removed the standard couplers (probably as they look awful) and added wire bars to the buffer beam of the tenders. Small sprung brass hooks fitted to the coaches will hook on to the wires. No couplers fitted to the fronts as these locomotives rarely, if not never, ran tender first.
      Hope that helps.

      That was the first and last time I saw 60009 Union Of South Africa. I was going to go see her at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway sometime this week because she was the guest locomotive. But, If you go there, you won't see 60009. Because a couple of days before she was due to arrive, She needed some new parts (Valve rings and some other ring) so she would not be able to go.
      Thanks to the hard work of the NYMR, they managed to find a last minute replacement...
      Enter West Country Class (Spam Can) No.34092 City of Wells!
      She will replace 60009's duties and will be operating alongside the Class 101 DMU Daisy and one or two home fleet Steam or Diesel Locomotives.
