I usually do not give a thumbs up on a video because most of them have to much face and no real content,but this one is a thumbs up for me,I make all kinds of fishing tackle and other things and need more battery life etc. and this will do it,Also I use a lot of silicon to make things and I can make plugs to go around those cords to seal out moisture to camera.

I've been shooting using external batteries connected to a GoPro Hero 4 for years and one thing to note is that it sometimes only works if the battery inside your GoPro is fully charged before you start recording. If I plug in an external USB pack and start recording when the GoPro battery is even at 95% then it'll run off the GoPro battery only and not the external pack. I've had several videos stop recording after 90 minutes or so because of this and it took me a while to find the answer so I'm putting this here just in case anyone else encounters this. It's a known quirk with some of the earlier GoPro's and something that I think has been improved on newer GoPro models. The Hero 4 is very old now so it's time for me to update soon!
I bought a little camera it was 20 pound its crap and I thought it only records for 1 hour 20 mins do j thought rite am just gonna stop it up cos I want something u can actual se ok and something that's gonna last and nearly bought a go pro 7 today and didn't cos the shop closed 1 min b4 and I have found out they only last 1 hour 10.minz..ime using my phone as a little CCTV where I live for great reasons and j just want something small so what am I best doing cos j no nothing about all this I've got 2 really good power banks 1 of me takes about 6 hours to charge but I test ran it and it charges my samsung s7 2 times it charges 2 of my cigs and the dodgy camera I bought for 20 pound so it charges 5 devices from 0% to 100% and it said that on the leaflet when j bought it so I tested it out twice and it duz charge 5 things so I have my phone on record and a power bank attached it charges for hours j have a 128gig member card but it records 33min 10sec parts so yesterday I was out walking for 7 hours when I got bk I stopped the vid and it said 7 hours 10 mins but then when j went tn my vids they was all 33minz 10secons j bought the mem card from like a Pakistani phone shop I shouldn't of trusted them they rob soooooo many ppl no recept no price tags they just charge what they want..scruffy counts no bloody need

But filming non stop for 8hrs will fill the memory card up in like 2 hrs! How big id the mem card? You cant fit 8hrs of continual gopro movie on any sd card?

I use a D/C coupler for my hero 3, no need for either battery on the gopro , so my limit is as long as my power supply as i use a 64gb card 6.5 hours with this , nice vid also, cheers..

your mom should perfect how to make those and sell them. Cause I can't find any online that are water resistant or big/small enough to hold my battery banks. I have 7 that I use and I currently have 6 go pros. I use them for work and I need to be able to hang the batteries next to my go pros. Currently I tap them to tripods or clamp them to a go pro clamp but I think this is damaging the power banks and making them die sooner then they should. Anyways. Just an idea

Hope you will see this or others can help me. I buy the standard mini usb on market and it does charge but it goes to Bluetooth mode, and when I pull out the battery it died. I use my sister cable which was a different one, and it work fine. Does it have anything to do with 3 pin or 5 pin? I wish you put the cable on the link also 😅
Very Interesting. I use some setup close to yours to get live music shows. But I faced overheating problems. So I try to get my best gopro on powerbank and microphone out of the sun's way, and if another turns off I replace it with other one that is waiting near by.
With the gopro model he is using, it has a looping feature. It will record 5 or 10 minutes videos. It just erases the oldest footage and keeps recording until you hit stop. Then it starts over. So after you catch a fish, just hit stop and it will record until you hit stop again, and you'll have thr last 10 minutes recorded. Does that make sense?
thanks for this, good idea, one way to seal the battery and mike holes is get a block of blu-tack and make it malleable and then mould it around the holes and cables, it will probably work better than using electrical tape.
Quick question here (and although the answer might be obvious but I still got to ask), can I use the camera in live mode (no recording, just outputing via HDMI) while it is charging using the Bacpac? Because I have trying to use my GoPro Hero 3+ while charging but the HDMI output completely goes away when I plug the charging cable directly into the camera.

I just found your TH-cam Video! I hope you can maybe help me out. I have a GoPro4. So here is my question.. I did a test where I plugged a Black Web battery back into my Hero4 to just see how long it would record. What I ended up with was one huge file instead of the multiple files I would have expected. The file I ended up with as too large to open. Is there a setting in the Hero GoPro4 that I need to set up to get smaller files? I guess the good news was that it recorded for about 5 hours but I could not open the video file. Any suggestions? Thanks Dave
Maine Trout Whisperer I will take a look at it again. I ran into this issue last year. I drove my 1957 Triumph TR4A 2,800 miles through the northeast last summer just using the standard GoPro batteries and found that I missed a ton of video because the battery died before I realized it had run down. So I did a quick test where I plugged a fully charged black web battery pack (Walmart) into the back of my Hero 4. It ran for hours but it was one giant file. I need to try again. Wondering if your 7 HGP overheats or not. Can you share your experience with overheating issues with 7 HGP. I've got mine this week and it heats up crazy around the lens area 15 minutes into recording 4k@60fps. Would appreciate your thoughts on the overheating. FYI I used SanDisk Extreme Pro card. TIA

Ok understand the all day battery hookup but how about filling up the memory card.? How large a card do you need or are you using the looping feature on the GoPro? The reason I ask is I have the 1st generation of GoPro and it does not have the looping feature. Thanks in advance for your response
David A. Lavigne depends on the mode you shoot in. If I shoot in less than 1080p on my hero3 white I can shoot all day, but on my 4black I shoot in 1080 at 60fps and I can get about 3 hours on a 64gb card. Then I have to switch cards over real quick.

I have an old hero 2 and I think they had a separate port for audio.
You might be able to seal those holes you drilled with rubber auto body grommits

An important factor you forgot to mention is...Hero 4 and older can only
be plugged into a 1.0 AMP port to charge or use for external power.

Bring more cards. Get the biggest ones for that camera. The newer ones take a larger card I thibk

Gen10nine same set up only I don’t use the housing. Just a hero 4 with the built in mic. Plugged in to the power bank.

Fufu Pilot absolutely. The hero 4 will charge and record, but the newer ones will just change when you are not recording

The power bank will last a very long time. The bigger you get the longer it will last. I would expect close to 24hrs
