I wish these aftermarket companies would make this kit with both the power and HDMI out cable connections as I use my GoPro on my boat and feed the HDMI to my Lowrance Video screen so I can monitor what I am filming. It is also great to watch behind me when in heavy boat traffic and to keep an eye out for others in the boat behind me when running.
I'm glad I found this video. I'm wanting to use my GoPro 7 on a cross country motorcycle ride this spring. I wasn't sure how to make the setup weather proof. Thank you!

Great video help, I purchased a hero 5 black store display even though it's an older model but the price point was in my alley. I needed to get this on my HD bike and didn't realize the ports were going to be a problem. Thanks for coming up with a solution.
Thx sir, this product is very practical & well designed for the purpose. I'm glad there are third party manufacturers who still produces good & well made solutions for GoPro cameras, this is great until they can find other advances like wireless charging with larger capacity batteries.
I ordered one of these for my GoPro Hero 7, and it arrived the day before a 6 hour cycle ride, which was perfect timing. However, while I was rigging up my GoPro onto my bike, with my external power bank in a top tube bag, I realised that the 9" cable that I ordered was not long enough. Fortunately I found a USB extension cable and thought I had solved the problem but, alas, my GoPro ran out of power after 2.5 hours, which is the limit of its own internal battery. I have since determined that the extension cable was the problem, after running two experiments at home, one with the extension cable and one without the extension cable. I presume that the extension cable needs to be a type C cable as well?
At some stage during the drying process, before you "disassembled" it you turned the plastic nut upside down. A little weird, did you disassemble and check it off camera first or what?

Once again a thorough and informative video. I realise nearly 4 years have passed since you uploaded this video but here goes. I have used my gopro 7 with a Ulanzi cover so I can use the the microphone input box and in very dusty conditions at times. You'd have to get and awful amount of dust to damage the gopro. But I'm between a rock and a hard place because when it rains I have to stop to put the gopro cover back on which means I can't use my helmet rode mic. Running both a microphone as well as external power is possible, but only when not raining. The only way I can run both at the same time is with the Ulanzi because its got the bigger hole which means I can't use that weather proof kit you demoed. Damn.... its back to the drawing board. I will continue researching but if you have any ideas I would be very grateful. Would you recommend a battery bank suitable to drive a gopro 7 please if your busy schedule allows. May the force be with you, thanks.
I'm just in the middle of setting my GoPro6 for a timelapse video outside... which made me think "how would I use this if it was to rain?".. I love to film storms with timelapse, but worried about having the power connected whilst it rain... you have just solved my problem.. now wondering if I can find a power cord that is about 5 metres long.
Will this work with the GoPro external microphone adapter? You would need another adapter to go from the USB-C on the mic adapter to the standard USB end on this cable. This should allow you to remotely position the GoPro mic adapter and provide power to it. The would keep weight off a MotoVlog helmet setup, with the disadvantage of having two cables running from the helmet to somewhere else (on a jacket, I would assume) where the external battery and microphone adapter would be located.

What I'm asking is whether there is any reason I couldn't plug the GoPro microphone adapter into the other end of that cable, using a USB to USB-C adapter? That would allow me to remotely locate the GoPro mic adapter and power source (rechargeable battery bank plugged into the mic adapter).
Not sure, but I think you CAN'T use the external mic adapter and charge at the same time anyway. So, even if you could plug the external mic adapter at the same time, you would not be able to record the sound from it because as soon as you plug a power cable to it, the adapter refuses to work!

The cable is what has the rubber fitting around at that seals the opening, however it’s the clamp that applies pressure to prevent moisture from getting in. So a combination of both
I have a question? When using an external power bank with your GoPro to record for extended period of time , should you leave the battery in or do you take it out. Does it overheat ? Thanks for your help!
I always just leave mine and I’ve never had any overheating problems. But definitely that could solve problems for those who are having heat issues, definitely give it a try
I’m not sure. But go pro tends to have a major release every September / October to help boost holiday sales So we should see your hero 7. I am hoping for a shiny new toy 😀
just get suptig waterproof case. they are waterproof and make 40m waterproof external powerbank. The only thing is you lost mic quality by a closed case but you can dive with it.

I don’t think there’s a time limit. If I go pro gets too warm it will just automatically power off. I’ve done 40+ hour time lapses In the past with no issues. Coming up I’m going to be doing a 2 week time lapse of a plant growing. I will be using the go Pro plugged into power

Okay I was asking because I bought this kit for my 7 black and I couldn’t get it to work so I returned it for the kit with the case and it did not work for me either. For some reason when I plug the cord in it starts to record then shuts off, but if I use just a regular usb-c cord it works as it should with a power bank. It’s like the cord with the kits don’t plug far enough into the H7 black. Have you run actors this or heard of that??
Unfortunately not that I am aware of. However if you search on Amazon there is a company that sells a session battery add-on that comes with waterproof housing. Will give you some extra power and still be weatherproof
Yes that would Be a very worthwhile idea. Better yet that would be great if GoPro introduced wireless Bluetooth microphone technology with the hero 7. No more adapters…
Are those charging cables quality? They're not just gonna stop working in a month right? For $25 it better be, I just ordered one for doing night time lapse overnight and don't want any moisture on my Go Pro.

I see that bolt sticking out and my head explodes. Such an easy design fix that would have made it hardly a problem when not using the cord. Hopefully their design engineer will get some coffee in his/her system and fix that for GEN II......Otherwise what a great product!
Good point but we struggled with a way to secure the cable and that's what we came up with. One thing, the thumbnut never needs to be removed. The retainer swings out of the way so the cable can be removed. Let me know what you have in mind for a solution to the threaded stud. donb@3brpowersports.com

Btw my comment was based on wanting one but thinking I’d need to buy a spare case so as to not have the bolt sticking out when not in use. When in use its not an issue. Why not simply bed a nut into the section that is mounted to the case, similar to how GoPro does its mount. (But permanently and laterally secure) Then when when the device is not in use no bolt sticking out. Again great product. I will likely purchase one for my long rides.
I looked at reversing the screw and nut but didn't feel that we could get enough thread without making the retainer too thick. The solution I missed until it was too late was a rivet. We use a rivet to secure the mount base to our USB power port mounting bracket. We can't rework the existing parts since a rivet requires a boss to provide spacing so the rivet doesn't prevent the retainer from turning. Next rev :-) Thanks again for the observation.

I use an old (Android) phone and the GoPro app to see what I'm filming - and to control the camera. All of that is wireless.

Looks like a secure method of powering your gopro. just using the standard cable could easily bend or pull out of the socket if you are moving about.
I used the hero 4 case on my alaska trip. Works great and awesome for motovlogging, glad we have a solution for the hero 5 now

Doesn't work on my Gopro 7 silver. The USB-C is on the wrong side so the cable doesn't fit.

This would not work with the adapter as it is a specialty cable made by this company. It has a special rubber fitting at the end that seals it in

Any power bank will work. You just need to keep it tucked away From moisture in a pocket or bag

Yes you can film and charge with a power bank with no issues. I have done a 40 hour timelapse while having the go Pro plugged into a power bank

They seem to be a nice quality build. However I have not used it long enough to make any judgment on Long Jevity
I can vouch for the quality of the cables. I have been using their kits for over 3 years with no issues, also their customer service is amazing.
