One of the better guests on the show you could tell this guy is geniunely happy and excited to be talking about the truck
You are on the wrong channel bud, this channel is about the Automobiles not some reality show with a bunch goofballs throwing wrenches around.
And, he's a giant.
you can tell it's a good guest when Jay doesn't interrupt them and tell more about the vehicle than the guest does, does Jay already knows what the guest would say and is not surprised.
And he talks mighty fast!!
Yep, @ 8:50 Listen for the *SNORT*
Love how this guy knows so much about this Bronco and is so enthusiastic about it. Very infectious. Thanks for bringing this to us Jay.
My grandpa had a 1969 Bronco...he gave it to me when he passed away in' 82..
Wish I saved it.
All stock with a snow plow 302 .
Excellent little truck.
Never broke down .
We drove on ocean beaches alot.
My Grandfather’s. Today is his heavenly birthday. I hope his favorite Bronco is being well taken care of. Yes, we took that baby off road a lot! Hunting runs in the Wright blood!
What a great guest. This guy has such a positive demeanor.
Absolutely love the sound of old car doors closing. Such a raw honest sound.
There is something so satisfying about it.
The Brono is the very definition of a vehicle a manufacturuer should have done frame baths in anticorrosion liquid before assembling them.
Every Bronco I have ever seen has been attacked by rust all over it.
This one looks pristine.
Just kind of breaks your heart to see all the great old vehicles that are now just getting eaten by rust at extremely fast rates and wiull be worthless to repair soon.
Beautiful RARE condition Bronco.
Nice to see it pretty stock too.
Most get hacked up and off road modded because they are already falling apart due to massive rust.
Great Video as usual,Mr.Leno.
That is a very corrosive comment.
'It's not slow, it's just not fast.'
I love it, that's where the magic is, right there in the middle. It doesn't need to be crazy fast, what you really want is to not be slow.
Did he just say his wife suggested the Bronco? Wow, now that is impressive. Dave Kunz, she's a keeper!!!!
America's Land Rover. The only difference being that it would actually start every morning. Love these things. Truly one of the great icons.
I love people who are this into their car. People like this are the ones who drive the hobby. They keep the history of the vehicle. It doesn’t matter if it’s a mx5, mustang, 911, corvette, AMG or any model. These guys love there cars and love to share the experience.
I was watching this when I heard who he got this from. "George Wright" that was my uncle. Restored many of these Broncos he was known as the "Bronco Man" he never cut the rear fender if I remember correctly. When he died I know my Dad and George's son Jim each got one. My dad's is as original as they come and Jim's is just a cool. Both are beautiful one of kind Bronco's. I've been in that Bronco a few times when he took us hunting. "Never drive it on the asphalt in four wheel drive" I remember the day, being told as I road in the back of that Bronco back when you could hunt in the hills of Valencia, Ca. Circa 1979-80? Bouquet Canyon I believe.
If you talk to Jim, give him my best. I met him and his mother at Jim's house in Newhall when I bought the Bronco in July 2005. Jim eventually restored the Bronco half-cab (pickup) that George never got around to before his passing, and he was kind enough to send me pictures of it.
Love how enthusiastic and knowledgeable the owner is, he seems very deserving of such a beautiful vehicle.
My dad's uncle had a 70......he towed it with a bus motor home......that thing went everywhere......I was too young to have bought it......it was pea green.....all metal......memories
I grew up with one... my dad had a 67'... used to deer hunt with the hard top off and windshield down. 3 on the tree was funky. Learned how to drive with it. I was 7 years old and 4 wheeling in the mountains. Awesome. good times
Wow. Sorry 4 years late but I just watched this video. Brings back so many memories from back in the day. Loved my '77 Bronco. 302, automatic, power disc, lock in/ lock out hubs, power steering, A/C, rear tire carrier. Sure was fun to drive. For some reason can't add a photo.
The seatbelt exemption was due to the removable top. There was no b-pillar to mount the shoulder belt, so convertibles and jeeps has until 83 to get front shoulder belts
I had '78 Bronco. It was great with the top off. I made a vinyl cover I could put on for the rain. I drove it to work on night shift and my wife used it in the daytime. It was great.
As a past Ford 4 wheel drive owner, it was always recommended not to run the 4 wheel drive on asphalt but to a least lock the hubs so the differentials spun and splashed oil over all the front end seals for about 50 miles every month or so.
My dad bought one of these (Orange) in 1978; Automatic, Power Steering, Power Brakes, Air Conditioning during a hunting trip we were on... this was our second Bronco (1973... Manual, No Power Anything), five years later, we bought another one, outfitted almost exactly like this one (no rollbar)... When we got it home, my mother commandeered it because she loved the good visibility. This was the first "truck" I drove on the road... Good Times.
He knows his Broncos pretty well and did a good job of not making Jay feel silly.
As a proud owner of a 92 bronco for 14 years this video was awesome
The mention of which war always makes me think of a line from the movie Space Cowboys "You were all in the military, North or South?" - Jay Leno ;-)
My 15 year old son was given a 1984 Ford F250 with the 6.9 diesel. It had been in a wreck and he got the engine going and running smooth, fixed some front suspension, some rear suspension and just has to replace the drivers door and fender, bumper etc. The engine only has 120,000 on it so....but the big thing is that the 6.9 was made by International Harvested and his Great and Great Great Grandfathers retired there. Kinda cool. My son graduated from a 2 year welding program at 15 and has already bought 2 cars of his own......and works part time for a body shop.
Dave Kunz knows his Broncos! Good commentary from the guy, maybe have him on here more?
in 76 i ordered one for $5000. drove it for 10 years until the doors fell off due to rust. mechanically it was as good as when new, but the body was shot. good clearance, plenty of power. and unbelievably short turning capability. it would idle up the steepest incline in low gear, and idle down without using the brakes. best vehicle i ever owned.
Too bad you couldn't hold on to it. They make the entire bodies now
I absolutely love these old Bronco's! I kinda preferred the pickup style with the small bed. For once, this seemed like a vehicle that Jay wasn't such an expert on! lol
StevenSWM jay has never been into the 4wd stuff
Luis Villalta Jay likes to cover everything automotive.
I haven't seen many of the Bronco pickups but that is a very useful body option...good farm or work vehicle .....I'll have to Google the original version load ratings .....
My Dad bought a 66 half cab in 1980. It was his daily driver and now is his farm truck. Around 2000 he got a 69 half cab that used to be a gas company truck. Huge front bumper with a winch. He completely restored it as stock as he could and it's been his daily driver for the past 15 or so years. I love the half cabs so so much. Feel as though it's in my blood.
Is this guy a car enthusiast or what? Great to see a person in love with his vehicle and not just the value of it,a real car guy.. This guy has a great voice and knowledge for his own car show on television..
My grandparents have an 81 bronco. They've been driving it for 30 years
This was one of the most enjoyable episodes I have watched. The engagement between the 2 men was mesmerizing! So much knowledge and love for and of the Bronco!
I like the honest enthusiasm in this interview. Plus, the vehicle really does epitomize its era.
Love Dave's passion and knowledge of his truck! Keep this old car vids coming, Jay. Old cars, that's where your channel is at!
Another interesting vehicle and personable owner. Car guy stuff without the six figure price tag.
Lots of enthusiasm without egos. That's the magic of the way Jay's always done this channel, I think.
I drove a 70's bronco courtesy of a old friend Dan. He loaned me his Bronco for a summer around the mid 90's in Bremerton, WA. The best summer I ever had. Thank You. Dan H. Matt C.
Guest Dave Kunz is really cool. When I lived in L.A., he was a Reporter on ABC news, and is considered to be the foremost authority on the 1968 Mustang 'Bullitt.'
Great guest, great car. No pro touring, no 50 year old tires and hoses 10 mile original. Just a beautiful nice driving car. More of a Jeep or Blazer guy but appreciate this episode so much.
There's an old man who has one of these in my town. Owned a ford dealership and he got one of these and I swear it's never been on a dirt road sooo nice looking. Reminds me so much of him loved this vid thanks jay
I knew George well! When I saw this Bronco it looked so familiar and then Dave mentioned it's heritage and AHA! Glad to see George's Bronco found a good home.
It's awesome how the people Jay has on Jay's garage have so much knowledge about their cars. It shows how much they love their cars
Watching this piece made me look up Dave Kunz on ABC 7. Dude is a television photographer and AUTOMOTIVE SPECIALIST for KABC. His gregarious nature is addictive!
I enjoy the history lessons on each vehicle that's featured. Nice example of an early Bronco. Pretty cool.
Jay's video are such a treat. With people who regularly post on TH-cam, over time I get bored with their videos, and move on. But there's just something about Jay that keeps me watching!
Sunday night at the machine shop...and I get a new video...Thanks JAY...these video do your legacy more justice than the Tonight show (not that it wasn't a bad gig)
I want a Bronco so badly but I didn’t know much about the technical pieces so I learned a lot from this video! Great for information!
My buddies and I had these "old" 4x4's, I had a '72 Toyota Landcruiser, another buddy had '71 K5 Blazer, another had the '62 International Scout....they were hardcore trucks, all metal interiors, easy to work on and "Cheap" to buy. The last time I look at a new Jeep "similar" to the CJ...it was $57,000...there no way I would EVER take that off road like we did, My LandCruiser had been on it's side 3 times and we've driven across rivers so deep we rolled up the windows to keep from flooding the interior while we crossed.
Timinator62 id kill for a decent k5
Sounds like some great friends.
I have many fond memories of riding in my Grandpa's old 70's Bronco he restored. Everything from road trips, to a quick to go for ice cream in the summer. What a beautiful truck.
I'd prefer this any day over the current so-called "crossover" utility vehicles sold today.
You would, but families and women with children prefer crossovers.
Unless you want a good chance of living in a serious accident 😂
How to piss off Crossover drivers put a panther body on a 4x4 ranger chassis.
@@ericalbertson6621 'Fer sure... light weight, high CG, short wheelbase, and crappy suspension... what could go wrong?!
No point mentioning both in the same sentence.
What a great truck! It’s great that they didn’t change it for 12 years. This is one of the best 4x4s ever.
In the 1960s and 1970s there was also the International Harvester Scout. A neighbor of ours had one in the very early 1970s, I dunno the model year ... but it was very, very spartan. Removable top, removable doors, folding windshield, and (in their case) no interior upholstery (just metal painted the same as the exterior). Two jeep-ish front seats, and a jeep-type rear set, plus a couple of wheel wells to sit on if you like falling over the side. With the top off and the windshield folded, it was almost exactly shaped like a brick with wheels.
has to be one of my favourite guests ever!
Oddly enough, for the last bunch of years this is one of the 'classic' autos I've actually wanted when I think about getting one, this or a Ranchero or El Camino or a any big old station wagon made between the 1960s through the 1980s .
I like how ford didn't change chassis and parts on these old vehicles much. I had a 7th generation 1983 ford F-100 with a straight six. Was easy to find parts for, ran from 79 to 86. and before that 65 to 79 were pretty much unchanged. I love the straight six engine, not as fast as a V-8 but had very good torque. Had a smog pump on it also and I got rid of it to free up some horses.
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful bronco. Great episode as always Jay.
This guest truly knows his subject, I believe he is indeed the new Bronco Guy.
Thank you for NOT cutting the rear fenders.
Ji F. the
What?! For $250k a modded one always has that option!
I would cut it!
On this beauty I prefer the OG tires or those tires not the hideous “I got a small wiener” oversized junk.
I made that mistake on mine and I regret every time I see it or drive it everytime
Got a Scout II painted this same color - but I've also got the optional PLAID seats. Thinking of removing the overhead light and adding a disco ball.
Do it!
Sounds legit
Love Scouts!
Amazing truck. Defiantly old school. Built like a tank. One of my employees broke his wrist with a hole saw attempting to install door speakers. lol
Dad bought one new in 74 at local dealer here in alabama, got it home lowered tailgate threw 3 bales of hay on tailgate, backed it up to fence and let the cows eat out of it. Jay love that sho gun i remember reading bout the sho gun wayy back, wishing i had my 1990 sho back.
It's so, so good to see unmodified cars. More of the same please Jay - stock rocks!
I have a friend who had a 67 or 68 Bronco that he put a 351 in his Bronco.
LMAO I forgot about this I had a plastic toy Ford Bronco that came with a travel trailer.
I love the wheels I had aluminum slot wheels on my 74 F-100. The steering wheel is cool. Brings me back to a better time. Take a 3 on the tree and convert to a Hurst floor shift.
Finally the only reason I like Monday’s. Thanks for uploading Jay
But they could go anywhere and they were fun! You guys brought me a smile. Dave's knowledge is encyclopedic. I almost got a '73 back in the day. My parents were helping me out with a car as a reward for doing well in school. I wanted one of these so bad... but my mom didn't want me to have one in case I wanted to do something nicer like go to the opera in SF. Eeeeesh. I wound up with a compromise little Datsun. I liked the Datsun, but wound up it got wrecked. Now, 50 years later, I've still never been to an opera and drive a 4X Ford truck that I've been everywhere and done everything in - Who knows what life would be like today if I'd gotten one of these. I might still have it.
Thanks for sharing. Fun video.
i grew up in the 70s and i remember the days when gm automobiles were the predominant automobiles on the roads.
This video is one of my Top-Ten (10) favoriteJay Leno Garage video's because you can see and hear the Love and Passion that's Dave has for his Bronco and the knowledge that he has for it is unbelievable.!!!
I had a 1984 Bronco II and loved it! In Minnesota winters, we lose a lot of parking lot space to big piles left by the plows clearing heavy snows. With my Bronco II, I could just climb one of those for the win!
So glad to see this one Jay! My dad died in this same exact model, color and all. He had bought new from dealer during his "I am a cowboy" years, that I know a lot of WWII vets went thru as well. That was '79, and I was in the US Army in Germany, and always thought I would inherit this classic vehicle. As a driver posted in the motor pool, I was already in love with small off-roads. Alas, dad had his final heart attack on the NY Thruway in the middle of a snow storm, rolled it, totaled it. I saw a pic of the crash, and it wasn't pretty. The one time I drove it, I thought about how it would hold up in a roll, and as I had just come off learning to drive APCs, the Bronco felt light and cheap. Ha!
I love the rims, slot mags are so cool they will always be cool.
Maybe it's because I'm old, but I had slot mags on a ton of cars and trucks. ENKEI, CENTERLINE,
We call them Jelly Bean wheels in Australia. They came on alot of our Australian Muscle cars.
Check out SLR5000 Torana online. Beautiful machines.
bill thompson wheels
Cameron GSX think the torana slr came with hot wire wheels standard.
Aearonjer Circumstance some did. Though most dealerships put them on.
Aungar
Triden/Hotwire 4X4 mag
Takes me back to the days of road trips, camping, and not being scared of a little dirt/mud or bouncing off a tree and scratching it. I see so many monstrous extremely expensive 4x4's with low profile tires and not a speck of dirt on them. Also, if you break down good luck working on it. I would take one of these oldies but goodies any day. Also, enjoyed the video as it is not some restro/mod, or hot rod. Prefer the old stuff and relevant history lessons.
Wonderful little truck. Would definitely daily. Simple, a timeless silhouette and tiny overhangs...my favourite bits of design. This is the right size for a vehicle. Modern vehicles are unnecessarily bloated, not just for safety regulations, but because of the 'bigger is better' attitude.
®ioT Would you please give my racing channel a Subscribe I have plenty of videos for you to enjoy
jay you have my utmost respect. your videos grant me access to a world of things i could never hope to see. i dont imagine making vtdeos is your favorite thing to do on a slow day. however you give us access to your collection. you care for these. i live in the west where multitudes of old cars just sit in fields or yards or backyards. bodies are good but drive trains are shot. i came from the midwest. bodies are shot and drivetraines are abundent. it takes someone like you to find the good ones and share them. and boy do you find good ones. thank you for the stories
Awesome FORD. It just radiates fun!
This is a great car - I've always thought so - high priced cars out of reach for average joe does not mean that good cars do not exist and this is def one of them!
@@GB3770 these in this condition are really expensive now
Two guys on the same page and a very enjoyable video.
So cool that he still takes his uncle out in his original mustang.
I wasn't impressed when i looked for the new jay leno video and found it was of an old bronco. However after watching this now i want an old bronco.
*This was my very first car in 1979, only mine was a '74 Bronco, they didn't change much at all. I saved up for a year to buy that Bronco. Mine was the same crazy 'Circus Orange' as we use to call it, with a 302-cid and a wonderful AM radio lol. I had that thing for almost a decade then the transmission died at 135,000 miles so I sold her for $900,00.*
My first car was a 1974 Bronco in 1980. It cost me $3000. It only had 42000 miles. It was red & white just like the sample Bronco. 302 with a C-4 automatic. I drove all over the desert of Owyhee county Idaho. Deer and Chukar hunting. Such good times. Sold it foolishly for a mustang 2 that got better gas mileage. I still miss that old rust free Bronco.
Love the original Broncos. I have a 1975 and love it. Thanks for sharing guys.
Nashville Early Bronco I drove my dad's 89 Bronco II throughout high school. Was fun, but I like my Raptor better I must admit!
T4nkc0mm4nd3r haha! I would agree with you there
Nashville Early Bronco Got high hopes for the new one? Not that you'd want to part with your 75, but hopefully Ford does it right after all these years
T4nkc0mm4nd3r I think it will be a great truck. They seem to be trying to make it right. But yeah, the first gen Broncos will always be the best
Nashville Early Bronco Did your 75 come equipped with catalytic converters from the factory or was the Bronco exempt?
Getting out in the snow to lock your hubs was just apart of life, people were far less delicate back then.
One of my favorite vehicles in the world. Wish they were still affordable here
Totally enthralled by this conversation and that rig!
Finally! A vehicle Jay doesn't have to squeeze himself into. Those smog pump equipped engines were real gas hogs, but they were fairly easy to work on and fun to take off road. I worked for a Mercury dealer in 1972 and we used a 68 or 69 as a shop truck, complete with snow plow. They were a lot of fun.
Charles Damery ....as snow plows!......that was also commo. in our area.
One of your finest shows Jay.
Such a mint bronco, and he sure knows a lot of the bronco history, thoroughly enjoyed this episode !
That's a super nice Bronco. Thanks for sharing. A friend had a black with white top Bronco. I had a bare bones K5 Blazer, 3 on the tree, radio delete, rubber floor mats, locking hubs, NP 205 transfer case. What a beast off road!
my father use to have the same bronco 77 3 speed manual with the 302 engine or something like that 30 years ago he paid $700.00 dollars and sold it for $3,000 dollars 2 years later i miss that truck hes was one from the police department from Puerto Rico USA.Good memories i miss that truck .....tell me your history .
YAVIER SALDAÑA Would you please give my racing channel a Subscribe I have plenty of videos for you to enjoy
Daves Racing Channel ok
NO
I had a 72..3 on the tree. 302 4wd. It had 3 gas tanks. Small plow on it. Love that little truck
The windscreen wipers look like something off of an early VW beetle. A nice compact 4x4. Much better than the monsters being sold these days. Yep. I'd be happy with an old Bronco.
Happy all day long!
A vehicle like this really can't exist today as a new model. You can thank federal safety regulations centered around crash protection.
Me too...well I have the next best thing an 88 Ford Bronco 2, just a little smaller than the 60's and 70's Bronco's, basically a Ford Ranger with a back seat and permanent top.
So would I. This is my idea of what an SUV should be.
*factory unsynchronized for your entertainment too*
My dad and I used to have one. A blue ‘77. Never let me drive it. This video makes me want it back.
Slot mags are the perfect wheel for any old muscle car. My friend had them on a jacked up rear ended 74 Charger. Was sweet. Hard to sit in a jacked up car with freshly armorall'd seats during a braking event hahaha. HAhaha CA smog checks while the rest of us don't even run CATS.
Thank you Mr. Jay for doing an old original truck/ sport utility.
I really loved this episode
Glad to see the denim shirt back!
Velocity Labs denim. Allways. -jay lenos slogan
Velocity Labs : he had to do a wash...
Takes me back to the 70's, after the 68 Mustang fast back and before my Jeep Wrangler. OK a couple of Porsche's in the mix, but great memories revived. Cars, girls, music, like I was 25 again. Thanks for that.
funny to see Jay looking small
Jays only 5'5".
for what it's worth, Google says Leno is 5′ 11″. That guest must be 6' 6" or so.
Three Random Words 5'11" is such an awkward height. An inch above average but you still look short as hell.
5'11 is perfect. Walk through most doorways without ducking, laugh at ceiling fans, no knees knocking on steering wheels or center consoles...
Yeah Jesse I'm 5'11". Leave us five-elevens alone.
Absolutely love those Bronco 2. Growing up in the Arizona desert we used our Bronco to pull an old Tire with us kids on it across the desert floor. Lot's of fun in those days :-)
This is such a great reminder of a time when the only people who bought SUVs actually NEEDED a SUV.
This was before they were called just sports utility Vehicle SUV then people drove station wagons for there families and soccer moms.
Exactly.
@G Riv True.
These were very popular in New Orleans during the 70s. Everyone in my neighbor hood had them as their second car. I remember riding in quite a few back then.
Dave and Jay! Enjoyed the vid. O and congratulations to Jay for staying in his lane (or at least while being filmed) LOL
This Bronco Ranger bring's back memories of my '75. Mine was a 'top of the line' model and even had air bags inside the front coil springs. I had a lot of drive line problems that the Dealership service manage and I just could NOT correct. That's a whole other story.
This one shown here is just wonderful,..in my opinion!
Finally an all original stock car for once! Great video.
This Dave Kunz guy is a great guest. Enthusiastic, accessible, and not TOO weird. :-)
They are going to build the new one down the street and I'm sure it will be MASSIVE. The new Ranger is 7/8 the size of of a f-150. Ford forgot the reason we liked the compact trucks, "they were COMPACT"
Had a 74 (3 on the tree, 302) live in Florida and drove it to Riverside CA to watch a race in the summer of 76. Sold it while in college to continue my education. Dream of buying another now that I've retired.
