- Jay Leno gets his first look at the complete restoration of a 1968 Ford Bronco given to him as a gag gift by comedian Craig Ferguson during Jay's final Tonight Show broadcast, February 6, 2014. The truck was essentially rebuilt from scratch, made into a modern, sleeker, suped-up Bronco. It was revealed at SEMA in Las Vegas on November 5, 2019 at Ford’s booth. The video includes never-before-seen footage of Jay arriving at NBC for his final show - only to find the "POS" in his parking spot!

Jay Leno’s Garage: Jay Restored Craig Ferguson’s Gifted 1968 Ford Bronco | CNBC Prime
Ohhh Jay...
We'd like to see you drive the Bronco!
How about a Part 2 to see that?
Yes
I am sure he will on the tv show.. and my guess it was filmed already.. just waiting to air it sometime after SEMA
And drag Ferguson along, that would be awesome and hilarious!
Off road, baja...
OJ simpson?
I think this is one of the greatest Resto/mods ever done on Jay's show. I love the minimalism and shape of the car and how spartan and simple it is. And what a monster it is under the hood. Overkill for sure.
That 50+ year old truck is cooler than most vehicles on the market today.
Funny, the 1st gen of the Bronco was made until 1977, and back then, I, my friends, & everyone knew it was special and lamented the fact, that Ford went to an F150 platform for the Bronco in 1978. It was good for what it was in it's own right, but this 1st gen Bronco had the intangible "IT", which makes things cool. The 1st generation Bronco was cool and continues to be cool!
mrcarlo1966 including the new gt500 because 3 pedals and a lever!
The car industry can't make really good cars because people will just keep them and not buy the next one. Should really be rolling chassis/engine makers, and exterior designers seperate businesses.
mrcarlo1966 ....it's not a truck bro, it's a Bronco...it's like callin a hunk of Toyota trash Fj40 a Jeep, cuz those most certainly are not Jeeps, and Broncos are not trucks...
Sparky To think the 2nd Gen Bronco was almost canceled it was short lived for 2 years.
Up next: we restore Ferguson’s show...
Oooohhh, that would be awesome! I really miss Craig! Please Craig, come back!
Oh I wish.
Yes!!! Craig is sooooooo much better than “James I yell through my whole set to seem funny Corbin.”
I mean...right?
yes please
She did a beautiful job. Great taste. Would have loved to see the interior and undercarriage. Craig will be so amazed at the transformation. It is a one - off icon. Priceless.
She probably didn't do anything. They only asked her because they need diversity
Hey come on, this is a family show
@@WTC7 Great segment and talented workers. No need to diss someone.
@@PedroKing99 Maybe "most folks" need to get over that attitude. My last supervisor, before I retired, was the woman who supervised the truck crew at the local FedEx terminal. We had about 8 Peterbilt tractors and pulled FedEx double trailers every night to the long-haul terminals about 150 miles away. She was as good or better than any other driver in the yard. Seeing her pick up the tongue of a 1,200lb dolly used to connect a set of doubles, and then run that thing across the terminal yard like shopping cart, shut up a lot of young drivers. Nobody messed with the boss! She wasn't pushy about her skills; she just managed her responsibilities like most other successful managers would. She just happened to be a very skilled woman, coincidently. You can't tell by looking...
When are you taking Craig for a ride ?
That would be amazing. I really miss Craig's late late show, we need more genuine people who speak from the heart.
It's what makes this channel so great too, that Jay isnt just presenting but genuinely loves these vehicles and wants others to be able to appreciate them also.
Craig moved back to Scotland
@@travislostaglia8861 He moved to Cleveland.
the correct syntax would be 'When are you taking Craig for a ride...?... in your pants' :}
@@duroxkilo I read this comment and Geoff Petersons voice was in my head right away.
That thing is gorgeous they did an amazing job. The paint scheme is so good
Love the cryptic hint of the 2020 / 2021 Bronco release
“Jay you will notice some elements ... later” 😉
I am sure we will see this one on display next to the new one when they announce it.
Jay has one on order most likely has one on order already.
I think he meant the GT500 engine
@@samcrawford3281 And maybe the automatic step things.
I literally wept when he started it.
I will never be able to afford something like this but I am overwhelmed by the joy of knowing that it's out there! 🥰
I 💯 understand what you mean.
High center of gravity, short wheel base, 760 hp.....what could go wrong
My thoughts exactly lol
Im thinking massive wheel stand with a side of high g rolls.
Everything. That thing is a death trap.
803..., a biker can handle it...
Everything!
Just bloody amazing!!! Absolutely LOVE Jay and the work he does for the preservation, appreciation and advancement of automotive history and technology! And he's a genuinely decent, humble, GREAT guy to boot! God love you, Jay!
Holy crap , I remember when those broncos were everywhere , that thing is great.
Love it! Not a Ford guy, but I love old cars no matter the make. My son and I talk about how cool it would be to put modern features and drivetrains in several vehicles we see.
He should pull up to Craig Fergusons house and yell "Get in Old Man!"😂
I would love to see Craig Ferguson's reaction to this build.
It's obvious Turd Ferguson doesn't have a clue about cars.
Boxer Dog
Not sure why this says J Leno restores the bronco. I guess Jay hired the contractors, likely he had someone else do that also. The truck looks beautiful but a bit changed . A resto-mod really.
I think the paint job ruined the authenticity of it. Maybe a less rich color wouldve been better.
Yup the period correct greens or blues wood have been epic
@@pipepicasso8112 Well looks like the people who built this one, also din't have clue.
Great job Teresa every element of color you picked is gorgeous
Jay seems like the kind of guy to find an old taillight and build a car around it.
Lol...what was meant as a prank turned into a passion project. Great sleeper build!
Leno starts the engine, and is virtually speechless. Taking it all in.
David Turk starts the engine, sleeper, no more.
That'll work.
when Jay first starts the Bronco...This man has hundreds of cars, but he still gets a smile from this monster
Key in the dash where it belongs.
Well done.
I used to own a 65 Mustang and not only do I love the key in the dash but that old Ford key design, too.
@@brian5o
I know what you mean. A friend of mine won a brand new 66 Mustang in a contest.
It was a convertible and had the straight 6 in it. It wasn't very fast but for a couple of 16 year old kids it seemed like the coolest car on earth.
Yup. Never even needed a key in the old days. Just bring your own ignition switch with your own key. Unplug the original, plug yours in and drive away.
Boy does this bring back memories! But probably not the memories you're thinkin'… There is even a slight chance I may have parked in that very parking space at NBC - I had the good fortune and honor of doing semi-regular voiceovers for the Tonight Show with Jay Leno (mostly character voices, when they would need them, from about 2000 through 2007) and always enjoyed driving to Burbank to do the work in the studio. Occasionally I would have to park in one of those very spaces (although I don't think I parked in 530🙂).
I found my 74 Bronco sittin in one of the last remaining apricot orchards here in San Jose, Calif, and I bought it from my Mother's high school boyfriend whom she hadn't seen since 1967....it needs a paint job, but other than that it's a beast...347 stroker, truck 4spd, locked Ford 9" rear posi Dana 44 up front, Atlas transfer case...and once I told him who my Mom is, he sold it to me for $4000....not even kidding a little bit 💯🔥✌🏻
I’m in Sunnyvale and drive a ‘79 F100. And I dig your name. 👍🏻👍🏻
I wish My 68 Bronco looked that good. Nice to see they went back to the Un-Cut look.
I can already see Jay pranking Tim Allen with this bronco.
No jay is not giving it to anyone.
Plus Jay already Pranked Tim back in the 90's
Stunning. The paint is perfect, engine perfect. I noticed that Ford built a factory style air box for it. The chrome mirrors, the wheels it's all perfect.
Holy smokes....I've been waiting for this ever since Jay first got it from Craig.
I love the step up for the older guys like you and I !
This is low key one of the best Bronco restomods. Clear to see why he didn't go for a Johnathan Wards Icon Bronco after seeing it.
REALLY?? Except for a lil more horse power.. The ICON Bronco's are still a Much Better Build Hands Down..
RexCars1 The icons take away the charm of these cars. Having had several of these totally original, I can see why jay would prefer something like this.
It is nice having a friend like you.
He called it "Hilarious". I believe that's one of his highest compliments.
A fine episode of Comedians Riding In Gag Gift Cars - and... LOVING it
Nailed it. Perfection. You're a lucky man, Jay. You've earned it.
Time to work on the patina....
Absolutely incredible. The workmanship is amazing and I can't imagine how many hours went into this project. The sound of this gorgeous engine just... wow, have no words really. Well done guys, really well done!!! :) Wish I had one here in Russia lol
I want to see Jay drive it through Craig Ferguson's yard. That would be epic!
Out of all the cars Jay has I would pick this one . Had a 71 when I was in my teens they were cheap then . In my 50s now and could never afford this but everyone has a dream. Absolutely beautiful truck enjoy it Jay !!!!
Chick with spark plug & H-pattern tattoos has garage privileges anywhere!
Ah NO
This is lovely! This just shot up to be one of my favorite cars in Jay's garage, sincerely!... And, I've been waiting to see this restoration since Jay promised it on one of Craig's last shows.
Man this thing is beautiful! I love how low-key it is and I can't wait to see Jay drive it.
Hey Ford, you guys also need to make a manual transmission an option on the actual GT500.
Rt, come on Ford, the Dodge Challenger has manual available
Eleanor does...
By the way, I was never much of a car guy...until I found your show. Now, well I love'em. I'm a computer guy and pilot guy. You have inspired me to design a computer case after your old aluminum cars. Thanks, J.
1:06 Jay casually pulls up in a Bentley daily driver.
Wheel / Tire combo's make or break a vehicle. This one is, Perfect !
One thing Jay forgot to mention why everyone wanted a Bronco back in the day. They were a formidable off road vehicle.
Now that's what you give the man who has everything. I'm very happy for you Jay. Very cool and what a blessing.
What a great story and a fun video! favorite quote from Jay... "....and it's not for sale" LOL
I was watching Green Acres just a couple of days ago and would you believe that Mr. Kimball, the county agriculture agent, drives around in the 1966 Ford Bronco roadster?! It's so cool!
“It’s a CLYDESDALE!”
Ya mean the stumpy chick ?
That had me rolling, his comic timing has always been perfect.
Miniature Clydesdale!
With subtitles, great! I suggest to Jay leno's channel many times
Funniest moment around 7:00 minutes! Dave seems to be totally puzzled about the 2 vs 4 wheel drive system! Epic!
noticed that as well...uh oh....
That truck is beautiful, I would argue on a few things, but wouldn't everyone who loves an old bronco. Mine is a 1975 that my mom bought me because I wanted to really learn how to work on cars. I full off restored it to my dollar amount, and then let a friend total my poor Sarah. She was off the road for 10 years, now sort of running. This video gave me inspiration to try and put more into her and put her back to life. My baby if 27 years, will never loom as good as yours, but one day I hope she's right again
Oh and I know this is an older video, so know one will respond, but I spent three years turning wrenches every night to mostly restore her the first time. I'm not a pay someone else to fix what I could fix guy
One man's trash is another man's treasure.
Especially after a 100k overhaul.
A 100K? Keep adding to that figure...
Probably the coolest 68 Bronco in the world…..Wow 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
What about the suspension and differentials that's in there how does it hold all the power?
Notice the guy didn't even respond when Jay asked about the transfer case. Bet it's just a 2 wheel drive now. No stock parts could handle 7 times the original power.
Hankorama either they custom engineered new parts (a real possibility with no budgetary concerns), they modified another much more modern car’s suspension and drive gear to fit the bronco’s body (because that’s what Icon likes to do), or it is as you think it is. Either way, the frame on this bronco is not the one that it left the factory with. Look at Icon’s other builds. They have a youtube channel.
@@jonndaThis wasn't built by Icon, it was built by Ford. That guy is the Director of Icons at Ford, which means he works on cool stuff exclusively, like the GT and GT500
@@172-e5s it's most likely an Atlas transfer case. To think they would leave it 2 wheel drive is ridiculous. You can see the front driveshaft @ 3:41
If Jay dumps the clutch and Dana 44 parts come flying out the side, that means they forgot to upgrade the drivetrain:)
Ford made BEAUTIFUL trucks in the 60's to begin with. That thing is fricking AWESOME!
Oh that has “Hold my beer” written all over it.....
I watched her on Car Warriors like 10 yrs ago. She is one amazing talanted woman. She and her team did a 1970 C10 what an wicked job they did with her as lead.
How to tell Leno knows a lot about cars? He didn't spend 5 minutes fiddling around looking for the hood release
wufongtan wufong I noticed 🚗
Also he took one look at the engine and immediately recognized it as the 289 Small Block . That might be even more telling lol
Somehow I can see Jeremy Clarkson doing that for 10 minutes while Hammond and May laugh hysterically.
I'm not a Ford guy at all but this puppy is really sharp. Nice job.
Jay has the best stuff! Enjoy it!
Wow! An amazing Bronco! Passion, relationship and pride! Not for sale! That says it all!
This is the only vehicle that could do wheelies ...in reverse.
Stoppies?
Totally epic build! Everybody involved did such a great job with this build!
Fun idea, but I'd rather have seen the original color, and original engine built up with some power. It would still be fun if it was still red, and had the 289 built up to 350hp.
That is so awesome! Just the sound of that crossplane V8 is epic.
I believe you are thinking of the GT350 engine. The GT500 engine doesn't have a crossplane crank. Both engines sound great though.
MSW you are absolutely correct on both the crossplane and the sound - my mistake.
Hey Jay, I would love to see you do this to the vehicle that started it all, the International Scout!
Two really cool dudes and one cool Bronco Jay . Folks did an awesome job
I love how all you need to do is drop a car in his parking spot, and eventually he'll do this to it!
Sweet Bronco Jay!! I’d love to own one but I can’t even touch them in the shape it was in before the resto. Wish I had a time machine to go back and pick one up when you could buy them reasonable
So where's Craig Ferguson that lady killer ? I liked his show ..
Gorgeous. I love the sound it makes when you turn it on. Pure Mustang 5.0!
Jay! You have to go pick up Craig in this now! Like A comedians n coffee thing! Ask Seinfeld first ;)
Oh that start up...the sound is unmistakable!
Hey jay are you going to drive it to CrAig Ferguson’s place home or work ?
This is a perfect match ford and Jay Leno . This is what the secret is to building icons . Pure love of the car and the build . They got this one right . It's not for everyone . Except if you love to be different ♥♥♥♥♥♥
CraigyFerg is my favorite late night host after Carson.
Sorry, Jay. You did a great job too. I like Craig's accent though. :-P
best bronco iv ever seen real top work well done
Disappointing that you don’t get to see him actually driving it...
Mastema thank you citizen of the interwebs.
His face when he fired it up... PRICELESS! You could tell he hadn't rehearsed this... Inner child coming out!
How much horsepower ?
Didn't quite catch it the first 30 times.
Yeah, evidently we are supposed to be impressed by throwing in a huge horsepower engine into a high center of gravity, 1960s tin can. I would have been impressed if they put in a Model X drivetrain.
@@OMGWTFLOLSMH .
760 hp ? ? !
If ya' wanna run with the big dogs, better bring another 1700 hp along. Check out 2500 street car/ tinman 2
Now that's one baaaad bronco now love the color. Great work everyone.
You know when your spoiled when you get some thing like that and barley make a smile.... I would have freaked the %#@! out.... I want one sooooo bad
Love the color. Gorgeous Bronco.
Very nice.
Now if only the new Bronco when it comes out has a GT500 engine option...lmao.
We'll get our choice of a weak 4 cyl or weak 4 cyl turbo.
Chrysler put a hellcat motor in a jeep Cherokee from the factory. Cost around 150 grand but hey what the heck it's only money.
And 2 doors
Beautifully restored! Very like the old Ford my son drives. He's had it for years. In Australia
Hey Jay, You should do a giveaway and give it to the first person who suggests that you should do a giveaway.
Good try dude !
@@antonycolless8595 Worth a shot. What's the worst thing that could happen ? lol
JOB1925
No, it would be better to give it to the first guy who tells the first guy who suggested doing a giveaway that he should give it to that first guy.... me just give it to me. I’ll let you know if everybody was right about it being a death trap.
@@Everythingisgoingtobealright Everything is NOT going to be alright...lol Yes it is definitely a death trap !!!!
I’d take this over any modern super car. What a great build. Truly priceless!
That female mechanic looks like Susie Myerson from The Marvelous Mrs Maisel.
Peace Frog she does
Thought the same thing.
I saw so many spinal cord injuries because of these things flipping back in the day and the roof caving in. So glad they put a roll bar in it. This thing really was well done.
Cool car, but no shots of the interior? No test drive?
The sound alone gives away something's Not What It Seems
Jay- “Hey do you guys have a engine for my old Bronco?”
Ford Yes
Just watching it made me smile! Awesome…. make sure to thank Craig!
🤨 Crazy to put that much power in something so top heavy
wasim486 Like Jay always says he's a member of the "more money than brains" club.
Jay Leno with a sleeper? Great work to all involved and I am impressed😇😆😆
Hey Jay, Craig’s on the phone. He wants it back.
Mr. Leno , could you please do a video frying the rear tires ! And if you ever need a full time carpenter/ handyman guy ....my family and I are willing to relocate anytime ! Thanks for helping to keep the car hobby ALIVE !
I will be happy to just be allowed to dust the cars in his collection.
I would drive this everywhere daily.A wolf in sheep's clothing.
Come on give O.J some credit 😂
Everyone born after that era know the Bronco
In my dreams I don't have as great a life as Jay. It's very depressing, but at least Jay is humble about it all.
That's a dream car for me. I love classics and Broncos. Hopefully the Bronco comes out 2020🙏
