Still fails to address the core issue of opticsgate. The lenses are from an unknown manufacturer, unmarked (meaning there is no serial number, no QC traceability, no counterfeit protections, etc), and are of unknown specification compliance. Additionally many vendors marketed them as milspec, which optically they may meet, but unknown on all the other aspects, nor could you trace that as they are UNMARKED.
Jumping in on this just to agree with what has been said. This and the LLI Reddit post, while good data, fail to address what causes the “opticsgate” discussion. Anyone that says opticsgate was for nothing either did not understand the issue or was one of the people who couldn’t even identify their own lenses after Opfor had posted a clear Reddit post on how you could tell the difference.
Yes totally. If you’re a cop or private military contractor etc using this stuff for life and death situations, and even from a consumer protection standpoint, I mean it’s ridiculous.
they were named nightline/salvo for objective and eyepiece lens. retailer admitted to me that there was a clear performance gap between them and fuji/carson
Cool, but the steele objective is not "milspec". Can it handle drop testing, how do the materials hold up in extreme environments, how well does it seal against the housing, how are batches being tracked with a QC program? This is all mystery, where as with Carson, all the information is available for the end user
few things here, Yes I ran one over with my 10K lb truck. the objective did not break, the diopter on the eyepiece did though. second, out of all the vendors ive ever dealt with Carson has had the worst quality control and largest DOA/RMA percentage by a significant figure. the industry is disillusioned putting these terms on pedestals like they understand what they actually mean in the real world. Every optic goes on a Hoffman to confirm performance standards before it is shipped regardless of manufacturer.. we do our own quality control at several points throughout the production process.
lol optics gate survivor here. i got nightline/salvo and had my retailer switch them to fuji optics for free as i didnt get what i expected when i ordered mil spec omni 8 aeternus binos. just as good doesnt cut it
Someone needs to make a boomslang competitor so they bring the prices down of that extra fov goodness to levels equal to at least rpo or standard Carson lenses
Unfortunately what you are saying is basically exactly what opticsgate is about. "Mil spec" does not mean carson glass, but there are a large number of people just like you who believe it does. So there are a lot of people trying to return their nods because theirs aren't carson, even if they are still mil spec as advertised.
@ it is a milspec option, but not the only option. Carson is a specific brand, so it would be like saying a milspec trigger, there are different brands because it is just a specification, rather than it being a model designation.
damn the carson lens looks way better
Obtuse take number 69
@@customnightvision it's not obtuse at all. it's an intuitive, subjective opinion. enjoy getting roasted

It would be cooler if you showed the same images at the same time for an actual side by side comparison.
tried my best. yall cannot be appeased.
Like 2 monos with their own recorders mounted on the same platform/base so they literally record the same thing.
Works as long as people can accept 2 different tubes... (Hopefully similar specs)
@@magickonsch1160I’m sorry I only have one $5k camera

Running wide open no iris on this i assume?
This isbwhy I have Carson in all the NVGs CNV has built for me. Next build with have RPO 3.0
Can civilians buy it? Or There is a good night vision that can civilians buy?
yes. civilians can buy it.
Carson is way better. The Steele is milky and has distortion. I used my privately bought nvg in Ukraine. I’d lose my mind if I got non Carson glass.
its not actually. carson has worse edge distortion and less light transmission.

I disagree. The tradeofffs aren't worth it imo.
@ I’m sure someone can do these better than photonis, I mean aren’t they a French company?
What is the benefit of the steele objective vs carson
It’s just another prevalent option. This video is demonstrating that there is no degradation in performance.
@kevin11288 I don't know if it was the camera or the lenses but the steel appear to have slightly more light polution.
Cool thanks

Looks the same to me. My PVS 14 is elbit and supposed to be mil spec so should be carson glass. Works just fine.
