  • Boteti Ferry, Khumaga Camping and the Phuduhudu Gate, Botswana
The Khumaga campsite is situated in the western side of the Makgadigadi Pans. It is accessed via the Khumaga village and when the Boteti river flows using the Boteti River Camp ferry.
It is quite an exciting entrance using the ferry. It is operated by the Boteti River Camp and you simply call them upon arrival. The camp is 200m up river, the road is clearly marked, and costs P150 per vehicle.
The Khumaga gate is a few hundred meters away from the ferry crossing and the campsite about 2km after that. Simply follow the road that runs parallel to the Boteti river.
The camp sites are basic with a fire pit, tap and bin. In addition there are ablutions with hot showers and very good cell reception. You can purchase wood on site and that is about it. No shop etc.
Best time to visit the camp is when the Boteti is flowing. This attracts large numbers of wildlife including predators and elephant. The main attraction is the hippo pools a few km north of the camp following the Boteti river.
If your next destination is the Nxai Pans then you can exit at the Phuduhudu gate. fFollow the same route to the Hippo pools, eventually there will be a split. Left is towards the pools and right the Phuduhudu gate. The gate is about 32km from the campsite. Once on the tar road turn right and the Nxai Pans gate will be 10km onwards on the right.

yeah Frank has been working very hard. Expected bad roads, but it never ends, you drive entire days in 4x4 at about 30km/h
