  • In episode 4 of this epic series @4x4ventures_southafrica , @GetOutGO and myself leave an amazing place called Elephant Sands where we enjoyed a night of luxury before purchasing wood and heading into the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park. We spent and amazing 2 nights in the park enjoying some spectacular drives along the Boteti River. We eventually made our way back to Khama Rhino Sanctuary which marked the end of this epic adventure!

    Thank you for the Botswana videos ,amazing how every part of the country has been commercialised but stayed wild , as an octogenarian memories come flooding back of all the places you visit which were my playground of sixty years ago ,your modern equipment and travel gear are mind boggling ,Bains was always one of my favorite stops , keep up the good work.

    My wife and I live in Victoria BC, Canada. We drive a 2018 Toyota Tacoma set up very much like your rigs and we have explored extensively the remote desert regions of mid west America. We are planning a self guided trip to Botswana in 2 years. I have been using your videos as part of our planning system and find them to be very useful indeed. Trip distances on each segment of track driven along with fuel consumption would be very useful for folks like us planning a trip like this. Availability of water and sources would also help. We are very experienced with this type of travel and exploration with the only difference being not many things here are trying to eat you as much as in Africa. Love the vids, keep em coming, we'll watch them all!!!

    Fantastic video! looking forward to watch your next adventure. I have seen a lot of videos showing game drives and animals. Great pictures but what is missing in most of the videos is the campsite atmosphere. In your next videos could you please add a small tour of the campsite showing where the caravans/tents are, ablution facilities if available, cooking and enjoying a drink in the evening around the open fire and what would you suggest to do when you are camping in a specific campsite. Thanks

    Great blogs about the national parks here in Botswana. I believe the next visit you will find the Boteti river at makgadikgadi national park flooding. The Okavango stream feeding boteti river is flooding a few kilometres before Maun which normally takes a month to reach Rakops during winter. I am resident of Rakops and usually do some day trips to makagadikgadi and CKGR..
    I enjoy watching your videos. Hope to see you next time when you visit.

    Hi Ed. just love to watch your TH-cam Botswana trips videos! Have also watched some of Get Up Go videos, as well as My Life in Africa. Travelling to Botswana, Namibia etc is also a big passion of mine. Have been to a few places in Bots, but still lots of places to explore. Can you please explain little bit about your gear, from gas cooking right through to how much water & fuel you take with on such a trip. What do you do with your trash, or how & where do you transport it?
    We will be doing a trip to Mabua in September this year, can hardly wait!!!

When you asked about things to include in the videos I thought maybe share some of your thoughts and experiences on overlanding and safari etiquette, especially in the more remote places in Bots. Thanks for sharing. I will be going to Moremi and Makgadigadi next year in June. Can't wait to get there. Your videos are very inspiring and very good content. Just a question....how safe is it to get out of the vehicle there, to film or photograph ? I have had the chance to visit Kruger in S Africa three times and this was a big no no.

    • @EdwardBath
      @EdwardBath  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much! You are going to some amazing places next year that’s for sure! In the Kruger it’s not permitted to get out of the vehicle whereas in Botswana the campsites have no fences so therefore you need to be very aware of your surroundings and thus you are allowed to alight from the vehicle in designated areas, there is little clarity as to whether it’s permitted or not throughout the whole of Botswana🙌

    if possible please let us know:
    1.the time of year you are traveling in your posts? perhaps just the dates in the description.
    2. a little more info regarding food getting supplies other than firewood - do you guys just take everything with you from wolloies in SA? Can you take meat as far north as Elephant Sands, is that not across the veterinary fence?
    3.Perhaps also some info on the national park fees/camping fees etc. or can Christoff @get.out.go please throw that in your campsite reviews
    Cheers

    • @EdwardBath
      @EdwardBath  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Garrick, thanks for watching and for the feedback, we really appreciate it! 1. This trip was in January 2020 but we will make sure to include this as well as road and weather conditions regarding the time of year we are traveling. 2. There is generally a meat ban in Botswana so it’s advised to grab meat in one of the towns. Maun and Palape have great butchers so that would be advisable. We will make sure to include this in future videos. 3. With regards to Park fees it’s 120P per person per day as well as 50P per vehicle per day. This is quite expensive and adds up but is well worth it, camping fees vary because of the different operators managing the various camps. Thank you for the feedback, we love hearing from our viewers and subscribers! Best regards!

      Thanks for the feedback Garrick! I usually try to include items like these in my blog posts (on my website) corresponding to the campsite review. I’ve avoided pricing though as it changes often and can get quite complicated (park fees, vehicle fees, conservation fees, camp fees pppn / per site etc etc)

      @@GetOutGO Thanks Christoff, I understand - have just been caught out with additional conservation levies and vehicle fees in the past when planning trips. Keep up the great work #GetOutThere

    Good day Edward,
    I have watched some of your episodes, very good.
    I need some help. My son and I just bought VW amaroks and would like to go on some adventures like in Botswana. got a Jurgens XT160 off road trailer all rigged out and ready. But what do we need on the vehicles? this is our first possible outing.

    How is the LC200 treating you? I'm thinking of getting a LC too, but hesitating.... should I go Hilux or 200 series... or maybe the 79?

    • @EdwardBath
      @EdwardBath  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maniwasaki thanks for watching! The LC200 is treating we very well thanks! I’ve recently done this trip and traversed the Central Kalahari Game Reserve from North to South and it performed perfectly! It depends what your requirements are? If it’s power and comfort then the LC 200 is the way but for convenience a Hilux or 79 with a really nice canopy will probably be better! If you are towing I think the 200 is the way!

    Why do you have 2 off-road trailers, which one will you pick if you need 2 pick one

    • @EdwardBath
      @EdwardBath  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Neels de Lange We have had the one for 23 years and it still performs really well! It’s almost bulletproof! Given the amount of trips I do a decided to purchase another one and I’m happy to say on the past 3 trips I’ve done the Echo 5 has performed amazingly so that’s become the one I will be using mostly in the future. For big trips where we take 2 vehicles we will be taking the other off-road trailer as well.

      Usually around 10 5L containers and around 4 cases of 500ml sparkling waters on a 14 day trip each 🙌
