    I'm not a purist vinyl junkie but it's great to see a skilled musician take samples from vinyl and work with it on a vintage MPC machine. Great stuff mpc head

      Any one knowledgeable with an Akai MPC 2000 xl and troubleshooting? I got mine weeks ago and still trying to get the zip drive to function I have specifics if anyone wants to take Pitty on a noob Akai MPC 2000 XL owner in need of getting off to making music ? I would literally be forever grateful

      @@patansy3455 sorry I use a compact flash drive that I installed so I don't have the zip drive. I would think that if you plug your zip drive in via SCSI and turn it on it should come up on your drive menu. Click on it and it will give you the data that is on your zip disc.
      I suggest replacing the zip drive with a CF or USB drive from mpcstuff.com

      I know how you feel. I been there. But what you have to do is keep working on the machine and develop your own technique and the rest will eventually come together. Dont make the mistake in thinking you need a different machine. You will be chasing new machines forever with the same results. Mastering whatever machine or software you used is the key to success. • @OlofBerggren
      @OlofBerggren 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      LoFi Weekly I would say that it most likely the sounds he sampled, in my experience the 2k has a rather thin sound but if you push the main output you will gain some cool compression/limiting. The 3k got i my opinion a cleaner sound = hifi digital sound? But the s900 and the 60 got the Mpc sound. I guess we want to hear the differences in these machines due to comfirmationbiasing.
      In the end its all upp to the producers editing, sample picking and preferences that makes all the difference.
      Dope beat!

      @@OlofBerggren supposedly the 2000xl and the 2000 have different converters for the sample input. the 2000 is said to sound more compressed. im a 2000xl owner and i agree, it can sound thin sometimes.

      I own this same model and the 1000. The 2000 XL sounds really warm. Its some kind of "musical" in my opinion. Since the Mpc1000 and beyond the MPC line is much more closer to computers than "musical instruments" aside from the fact that even tbe old models are computers. Blessings and salute!!

      2000xl is its own thing, you get the standalone aspect. push 2 you're stuck with ableton (i have a push and a couple mpcs). it's a different mindset using only the mpc.

    Nice video. I just bought MPC 500, not sure if its gonna be something I like woking with because of the small format, whats your opinion on getting 2000XL vs 2500, or even moving into MPC Live? I also just picked up SP404sx, and have several Elektrons. Looking to find a good box specifically for sampling, not necessarily for mixing, I can do my final in Logic. thanks.

    • @RoomAtTheTopStudio
      @RoomAtTheTopStudio 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Give the little box a chance. You just got it right? Learn how to use it. Don't make the mistake of underestimating it. I had mine gathering dust for almost the full 14 years I've had it. I just learned to use it 6 months ago and now I'm upset that I didn't try sooner. If you have the SP404sx and the 500 you're in lo-fi heaven. As for 2000XL vs 2500? Ease of use 2000XL. For features if you have the JJOS 2500. You can't lose with either especially as you doing your final in Logic.

    • @weepwow
      @weepwow 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RoomAtTheTopStudio Thanks Luke. Its hard for me to see the screen, while hovering over the MPC500, compared to my Elektrons. MPC 500 build feels like a toy compared to the Elektrons (Sweden), which are built like a tank and feel like real instruments, comparatively speaking. I think if I bought the MPC500 first it wouldn't be so obvious to me, but I feel like I need a better built machine, maybe an older MPC. I also had a Novation Circuit for a while and that was even built much better than the MPC500, but a step backward from an Octatrack and Analog Four, so I sold it.

    • @RoomAtTheTopStudio
      @RoomAtTheTopStudio 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@weepwow it's 2 lines on the screen with just the information you need. You don't need to hover over it as even if you sit and you have the backlight on you should be able to see just fine. The advantage of the 500 is that when you are traveling it doesn't need a power cord as it is also battery powered by AA batteries and it fits on the tray on the chair in economy and it doesn't take up much space on the table on a train. For a toy it's a powerful sampler and very powerful sequencer. Add a MIDI splitter and you can control a room full of synths and drum machines with the MPC500. It actually has more features than the 3000, 2000 and 2000XL as it comes with onboard effects. I have a Circuit as well. It's easier to learn than the 500 but the 500 is way more powerful. You can sample directly into the 500 from a turntable or another device. Upgrade the memory to 128mb and your sample time is very impressive. If you get to know the 500 you may look on your Electrons and the 500 differently.

    • @weepwow
      @weepwow 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RoomAtTheTopStudio Thanks again. Watching the video here (MPC head doing his thing on the 2000XL) is great, moving around at ease. Personally I'd rather put in the time on a 2000xl or maybe Maschine-3 or other sampling device.

      depends on you mpc. If you have an mpc with phono inputs you can connect a turntable directly to the mpc, if not then you need to get a mixer with phono inputs to connect the two devices.
