My first beat making video on the MPC200XL. It's old and the workflow is kinda slow but I just had so much fun making this. I'm chopping up a sample, adding some drums and a bass to it, lay down some scratch over it and I think it turned out pretty great in all its simplicity. Old school hiphop made on a classic sampler in 2020. What more you you need? :D

But if someone has mastered the machine, they can show what can be done with it. And that an Akai mpc 2000xl, with all its limitations, nevertheless and perhaps because of this, promotes creativity. And you don't have to hide behind modern devices

I got the 2000XL the other week. I’m in love with it. Such an easy to work with piece of kit.
I've had both a 2XL and a 2500 for 6 months or so. I'm constantly torn between the much nicer ergonomics of the XL, and the features of the 2500. I much prefer operating the XL, the wheel is way nicer, you can do so much with one hand in one place. But the 2500 can do such nice things as tune or filter all your pads at once so you don't have to do your taxes on the thing like you have to on the XL.

Great beat and video bro! Its crazy how these small "sonic differences" in the 2000xl just make the beat sound more "solid", like a stronger foundation (in my opinion), than your beat videos with the newer MPCs. When I had my MPC2000xl I compared how it sounded from the 2000 and the same drums in logic, and the difference is VERY subtle.. BUT, when you start transposing and filtering samples in hardware samples it just does something to it that is so much more pleasing to the ear for certain genres of music.

AB slays again! Very nice old school beats there, sir. I come from the world of original Roland TR909s, 808s, and R8s, Oberheim DMXs, E-Mu SP-1200s and old MPCs. They were great for the time, but they are not missed. Though I can appreciate the desire to work with those devices every now and then, I see no real benefit with going backwards. The NI Maschine Studio can do everything those did and is better at it. Evolution of music tools and sounds is the move. The beat goes on. Peace to all.

Just copped my first MPC a month ago. I feel stupid for not really copping one Back when I started beats 12 years ago 😬 😂. But Yoo I love the workflow. Worked really well with the 404sx/OG. I got the MPC 500 love this thang

With a beat like that, it would probably be save to 2 or 3 💾. I remember those days. The blue mpc comes with sd and cf cards. Before then zips were Godsend.

nice to see youre getting better bro! and the 2kxl looks mint! try the 12bit resampling to get the most out of the mpc and you should give those filters a try too!
I found resampling on the XL recently, 26040hz 12bit sounds amazing! I just wish it didn't take minutes to do the conversion. It's like having an SP1200 for a tiny fraction of the price and literally none of the immediacy haha

Dope! Maybe this is placebo, but I always thought the 2000XL had its own unique sound. It just felt tuned for the time period, and yet somehow its sound is timeless.
Recently copped a blue one mpc2000xl got a great deal for it , I use it as much probably more the mpc live which is awesome to !

I finally boughy a 2kXL a couple years ago after being bored with every DAW on the market from nearly 2 decades of using computers to sequence and sample. After a week with it i loved it so much I bought a second one. Best buys ever.

@@angtongteron199 Not for over 15+ years. The classic MPCs can only be found used online (and mom/pop music stores or pawn shops). The good thing is there are still a lot of them out there but if you're pursuing one, be selective and find one that has been taken care of, upgraded, serviced, etc. Otherwise, you can get one of the current MPCs. But the limitations of the older ones make for unique workflows you won't ever find on the newer ones.

i just touch the end of an aux cable and record the buzzing then filter it down

I just got A live 2 and had some doubts about some things. The preloaded samples sound so good and the workflow has been fun to learn (except changing the time signatures) but this video has blown my mind. I had no idea Akai had such a rich history, pioneers of this. I thought the mpc was a newer thing. 🤯. I’m proud of my purchase. And to think I was gonna get an OP1. Well maybe I will still. In the future. Before the the overlords destroy earth.
And before the 2000xl there had been 4 other models (60, 60II, 3000 and 2000 classic).
