    Started rebagging some 20+ years old comics and a couple had the old board backwards with the non glossy side facing the comic. The board was so stained you could literally see and read the entire back cover of the comic on the board.

    i still have 20 year old comics in their original bag and board, not a tint of yellow or browning. Storage is equally as important as the protection.

    How often do I have to change the bag and board of my comics?

      If you need to, I live in Colorado and never have had to do it. It's dry here but if you have humid weather Tham there are things you should do to keep humidity out of your comics and it will likely keep you from needing to do it at all or at least less often.

    After a couple of board and bag changes, the cost will outweigh the value of the comic.

    I just found and changed the bags and boards to my comics. Many have had the same bag and since 92 and 93. I wish I had bagged and boarded all of them.

    Does it matter what side of the board you have to use? what will happen if I used the wrong side to place my comic.

      We recommend the shiny side of the board faces the comic. More information: blog.bcwsupplies.com/comic-book-backing-boards/

    How does the board draw out the acid from each page?

    • @mactek6033
      @mactek6033 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It doesn't. The yellowing is due to oxidation as the paper naturally breaks down. Your older paperbacks do the same thing. You could slow the process by inserting archival paper between each page, closely maintain the optimum humidity and airflow, but nobody does that.

    So every five or ten years we have to change the bag and board???

    Is there any way I could tell when it's time to replace the bag and board? Also I've heard Mylar is the best bag to use, but what's the next best alternative if you can't afford it?

      +MisterX867 - We recommend you swap out bags and boards with new ones every 5 years, but you can stretch this when the comics are stored in a good environment. Technically, just the boards need to be changed and the bags can be re-used as needed. The Mylar bags are great, but the standard polypropylene bags are also archival-safe and more economical. what sleeves do you use for TPB that are 300 pages or more?

    My mom has had The Original Dick Tracy #1, a 1990 reprint, bought maybe 12 years ago. It hasn't had a new bag and board since, and the pages look yellowed and feel flimsy. I will definitely replace the board.

    Helpful video - thanks!
    The music was distractingly jarring, though.

    Are there Mylar bags with the adhesive seal?

    • @Bcwsupplies
      @Bcwsupplies  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Steven Green - BCW offers polypropylene comic bags with the resealable strip. We are not aware of Mylars with the resealable strip.

    All my comics have been with the same bag/board for over 20 yrs. No problems. This is a complete waste of money.

    Don't throw money away on polypropylene. Always buy mylar. Get used to buying mylar and dont buy more comics than you can afford to put in mylar. Polypropylene is not worth the money.

      I have never used Mylar, but it is very good for keeping your comics in a more display quality bag, but PP protects stuff just fine that I only see whenever I take it out
