The goals of GDQ are to raise money for charity, spread the spreedrunning community, and entertain. Your smb3 race did all of those things.
Accidents happens, but you raised a ton of money because we as supporters love your channel. Plus best Heel turn ever at SGDQ. Bah God he broke Mitch in half
I'm sure someone already scooped this info but the music in com_poser's level was from TMNT 4: Turtles In Time, my all-time favorite SNES game :) Specifically, level 3 Sewer Surfin' and level 9 Starbase
watching the Mario party level that day, the situation that Carl is super expert about all those mini mechanics and solved all puzzles quickly made me hyped.
It is good to argue whether a puzzle-like level should be in speedrun or not.
Alex Chan good point. Then there should be 3 players with different levels of skills. 1 puzzle master, 1 speed runner and 1 execution god
the katz troll at the end of the level is the best. I like DrCliche's level / puzzle levels figuring them out live in a race though I understand they aren't fun to play as a race.

Thx for doing a review, particularly with the ones whose endings weren't previously seen. com_poser's level was awesome, of course, but my favorite part was the awkward clapping by the audience!
6 minutes is a fine timeout, assuming the levels are tuned for that. The Mario Party and Boo levels didn't seem like they were (if you add in the time to figure out the gimmicks and learn the level). Agreed that next GDQ race should implement a "last Mario" timeout instead of just stopping the race. I also wouldn't mind timeouts being tuned for each level, just so creators aren't constrained by having to adhere to a global timeout. Awesome job as always!

That Yoshi was suffering from a gestalt possession, and it's exorcism deleted the level.
Auto-moment was a good one, but not as great as clutch-sagan42's finish. My favorite run of GDQ was the all forts race by far, it didnt really matter that things got screwed up a little it just adds a bit of extra to the overall story arc :D
last life brings the great race to the wimpy crawl to make sure you don't die
Thanks for this video. I really disliked the SMM segment in SGDQ this year. The 'six minutes maximum' format is just not good enough. It was so obvious for some levels that they weren't going to be finished, and it really killed the tension.
LongaVita Agree, the ghost level and Mario party level are hard for six minutes. I was amazed when Carl was able to solved most of the Mario party level in such a tense situation.
LongaVita Yeah I'd be willing to bet Carl and the rest fought hard against that because they're smart enough to realize how stupid it is. Just another example of GDQ being silly in their rules.
Actually the 6 mins was The players idea. Most important part was making sure we didn’t go over time, which Mario Maker has done every single time in the past. I honestly don’t mind a few timeouts with the current format. One thing though that will for sure be changed is that the time should indicate the last life of the team and not a hard cap. We also wish the last level took a bit longer but that’s more a Clutch Sagan thing;)
So “Carl and the Other guys” came up with the rules. GDQ was nothing but supportive in our vision. We wanted to put on a nice, tight, show in the time we were given
Should note the time limit was something known for a while. I think ultimately its very hard to design around good players to make sure they don’t one shot something but do progress in a quick manner. All the creators did a top notch job imo
I 100% agree that if you're going to have a 6 minute limit, at least have it be the last life rule. Don't just randomly stop the runners because 6 minutes is up.

Grand POOBear the other team intentionally dying just to give him more runs was crazy. It's either cheating or the ultimate cheese - I'm undecided. Team Stay Hydrated with the clutch bowzer take down to beat the buzzer was the best IMO.

I was playing 100 Mario Expert the day after the SGDQ race and Stacked Like Bowsers came up, after wasting a load of lives, I appreciate just how good the SGDQ runners are.

Yea the way they did the 6 minute time limit wasn't very good. I know having some kind of limit makes sense because it's a live event and things are scheduled, but they could have done it better. I agree that when the 6 minutes are up you should been able to finish that last attempt. Also that puzzle/glitch level should have had a longer time limit. 8 or 10 minutes maybe.
Carl's sgdq level was 99% a remake of his kaizo college level "finals countdown". i think that's why it didn't get the reaction
Okada vs Omega isn't as good a rivalry as Poo vs Mitch. I can't wait for sgdq all forts 4 when Poo takes the belt and embraces darbian and Sagan in tears.

In that level in 28 minutes, the whole time, the bonus world music is playing. How do you do that? Is it possible to only do that during a subworld?

I got the sound effect, but I can only seem to attach it to an area or an item. It looked in one of the levels like it was playing the entire time. I don't know how to do that.
The Taco Libre near the SGDQ hotel was amazing. I really hope SGDQ 19 is hosted at that hotel.

In the ghost level (by kiavik), the song that played during the second part is actually an awesome Undertale reference. It’s one of Napstablooks CD’s, it’s called ‘Spooktunes’. You can hear it when visiting his house :)

Carl's hard level didn't get attention because most of the audience didn't understand how difficult it really was. During the relay race, you can see the difficulty since people are constantly dieing.
I think it was sooo fast paced that it was hard for casual fans to see. Like all of us who watch maker all the time dug the shit out of it. It was truly an awesome level
