I think this should become a thing, initial impressions are great but I wanna hear about the car every milestone mile mark, so we get a better sense of how it performs throughout the life of the vehicle.

@khayon4364 considering you have a subaru now, have you checked out the new wrx? The 2.4T is an amazing engine and the wrx has a lot more interior space for a family carrier. And it will come significantly cheaper, easy to get discounts well under msrp.

Nice.....I just hit 16k miles on my 2023 Corolla GR my paint is almost perfect I fixed a couple rock chips. My interior still has the new car smell. I wash the car weekly and vacuum every 2 weeks. My only mod is SXTH Intercooler.
I appreciate the real review, you’re dope for that man. My only complaint at 5k miles is lack of storage- so I may be going with that arm rest you got so my stuff doesn’t go flying at every corner haha.
I would hope that the clutch wouldn’t have issues at 30k miles! I put 165k miles on the original clutch of a 2000 ford focus and currently 157k on the clutch in my 2016 ford focus st. I work a gearbox like nobody’s business. I was disappointed in my 2006 Acura RSX type S as it only got 75k miles from the clutch and it was far superior to the 2000 focus I traded in for it:( then it was cut short of its life when a giant buck jumped into it doing 70mph on the highway with 164k miles on it in December of 15 which is when I bought the ST. Looking in the next year or so to get a new one. Looking at the gr Corolla , integra type s or the Lexus is 350 f sport awd or possibly the golf R.
Everything you said is how it should be on manual cars. Long lasting clutches, but you would be surprised how many people have burned the clutch up on this car. Hard launches, hard driving, bad driving and I've seen the complaints enough times I get asked if these clutches are bad. I simply say those people can not drive and/or they've had a very unfortunate series of events.
I had a core with performance pack, I was stupid enough to get a blue flame circuit. I wish I kept my red core. Not so flashy and just a fast. And cheaper.
I’m considering switching from a 21 STI to this. I loved the Evo IX and I heard the GRC is similar to it. The STI, even with coils/swaybar, doesn’t seem to handle quite like the Evo. Do you think it’s worth it to switch?
I came from a STi Hatchback, not a 2021, but I have a love for STi's as well. For me, the allure here was the hatchback and being AWD (yes I know the Golf R exists), but I wanted something more raw, connected, similar to the older STi's and Evo's. For me this answers all those desires.

At 11k my grc needed 4 new tires. The back two wheel rims where replace and the alignment was also out of spec. Toyota warrantied everything after I told the dealership they could come get it. Went to 245s also.
CarQuicks... get the support plate for your SXTH Element arm rest... no more shaking. I just upgraded mine with the support plate... It made it solid as what you'd expect as OEM.
Love this video, my man, I watched your 9,000-mile video. I missed the 15,000-mile one, so I'll have to check that out, but I am almost at 4,000 Miles with my 2024 GRC Core. I'm absolutely enamored with it and can't wait to see how my love for it grows when I hit 30,000 miles like you. I appreciate you calling out because people have weird preconceived notions about the car or may even over-hyped it. It's just a very sexy, very sporty daily. It's a Corolla, but it has 300HP and a turbo. The interior must only be insane if you're willing to drop extra cash for the Premium, Circuit, or Morizo edition. I just got it ceramic coated with a 6-year warranty. I was surprised at the tire life you mentioned, and I will have to look into getting some new tires. I'm unsure if you've seen them, but the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 would be an excellent tire for this car with the recommended size.
Having owned some Subarus b4 the GRC. The great thing about this car is it doesn’t use a drop of oil. I am doing 3500mi OCI’s so can’t answer for longer intervals
I have had my GR carolla since December 2023 and I love it. The only problem I’ve come across is with the headlights being too low which limits how far in front of the car the light reaches. It really deters me from driving at night cause it’s just unsafe . I have used the height adjustment switch in the car and they are up as high as they can go. I really need the highest position (1) to be midrange on the switch (3) my question is has anyone else had this problem and if so, have you corrected the problem and how?
You are actually the first person I've heard, mention this issue for driving at night. I've driven at night a lot with the car, but have never felt the light beam was too low. This could also be my experience with dealing with low sitting cars. For a fix, the only thing I could think of is getting in contact with custom headlight builders (plenty on Instagram) and specifying a unique setup that matches your needs.
Glad your paint is holding up. Flew down a few states and drove mine back. Nice big rock hit the hood with only 2 hours left of my drive lol. 300 miles with a good scratch already but just incentivises me to get the CE hood now 😅
You know blessings come at weird times! LOL! I only PPF’d the front bumper, but the paint is cheap so if you have a good paint chip person you could make it about disappear.
@@CarQuicks I did a light foamectomy. Not my first rodeo (I’m 6’6”). Must say… pretty huge difference to the good. Now I can see under the rear view mirror rather than around it. Also feel like there is now lateral support for my ass.
With the GRC you do not need to tune right away. Matter fact, I've been running for thousands of miles. One thing to know, the GRC ECU is capable of learning and modifying fuel/air on the car after modifications. A small amount, but there is a change and one that has been documented by tuners on this platform. Obviously to benefit from everything, you will want to tune to get maximum potential.
Wanting to pick up a Blue Flame 2024 Circuit Edition, I'm terrified of the forged carbon roof though. The owner's manual is incredibly strict with maintenance on it, and not having a garage gives me stress. I'm hoping a full ceramic coating would be enough to protect the roof from sitting outside 24/7.
Depends on your end goal. Both cars are capable, but personally I never buy a car under the idea of what is cheaper to modify. If I don't like how it looks, just the simple, I wont buy it. Aftermarket potential or how much parts cost is not my first factor in buying a car, I have to first like looking at it in stock form. Everything else can be achieved, some might cost more than others, but the overall foundation is the most important.
I was torn on this but I ended up choosing the WRX, not cuz of the tuning, but I can make the payments of WRX. The GR is still marked up 8k everywhere and it just isn’t worth it at the moment you know??
Bro i run a restaurant and deliver 100+ person catering orders with this car regularly. It has good storage you just have to give up the back seats. if you build a custom mount you can move the battery to the right store it there; and drop a piece (2 pieces) of custom cut plywood and a rear seat delete and wind up with storage similar to a pickup. Add some cheap car carpet in black and bam it looks sick and is huge storage
I’ve said too that is someone (maybe that’s me haha) built a better place for the battery and made a floor for storage but to gain more up top, it’ll make the storage even better.

How do the Continental tires compare to the stock Michelins? Are they as responsive? I was disappointed when i changed from the summer pilot sport to the all season pilot sport in the decreased steering responsiveness.
One thing to note is that All_season tires of any kind, even if touted as performance grade, will not compare to the summer/performance variant of that tire. The Continental tire I'm running is not an All Season, with the 245 sizing it performs amazing. The responsiveness and grip are a better in my driving. Sound and road noise has been greatly improved.
@@CarQuicks I figured the all season would ride softer but it doesn't, I'm confused how it seems to have less stiff sidewalls and yet still rides the same.
I'm currently running a 245 Continental tire. The tires are excellent so far. Now I will admit, I have not been diligent in rotating them at all. But I did just complete a 4000 miles roadtrip and the ride quality, noise are excellent. I would recommend a 245 tire and this brand.
Heck ya man. Maybe an unpopular opinion but I’m not a big fan of our 235 Michelin pilot sports. Dont get me wrong they’re cool when you gas it on the highway! But the streets of socal are unforgiving 😅 Definitely gonna put these tires on the list

I just came back from a 5000 miles roadtrip nearing 38,000 miles, no rattles and everything has held up great! The one thing you will hear about are the weak grille tabs that have broken on many cars including mine. I had it replaced under warranty.
i know you did tons of research before buying the gr corolla, but just super curious in Texas where you dont get extreme winter like here in canada why did you not choose the FL5 type R instead? what steer you away from type R?
I actually drove an FL5 Type-R a few times and considered it. However, I'm not a big fan of FWD cars, even without winter, the dynamics on how FWD cars react compared to RWD or AWD, isn't my go-to formula. Extremely capable cars, and in all daily duties, one wouldn't really tel it was FWD. Also, for me, my last car was a Honda S2000. For me that was a pinnacle of true sports car. I also previously owned a WRX STi hatchback and wanted to get back to that formula. Lastly, in the realm of unique cars, the FL5 is familiar in the sense of the motor being the same from the FK8, with suspension tweaks to up its abilities on the track. Track racing wasn't on my list of needs. When I look and drive the GR Corolla, the character of its 3-cylinder, the response of the AWD system on the backroads, the sounds, rawness of the whole car, resonated with me like the days of Evo 8/9s and Subaru. To me this is the last of a truly unique sport compact car.
@@CarQuicks damn, you should really make a video of your opinion comparing the fl5 to grc. i own a grc ,but my wife hates it she kept convincing me to trade it in for a fl5, but here in Canada, FL5 are like finding needle in the sea, so hard to find, and when you find one its already 20k marked up and they would only take trades in for you grc like 10k less than the retail value for trade in. Definitely a big lose. I only second thought the idea of trade in cus the FL5 honestly looks not bad compare to the grc. But really like your opinion thanks for sharing!
Really? I've thought about this and have wondered if their are benefits, but you do bring up a good point and especially from a boost stability standpoint once tuned.
A bit off topic but what is the real world width from outer edges of mirrors or whatever is widest point I know what website it correct for where they measure but it’s without mirrors and it doesn’t say where it’s measured so it may not even include the fender flares for all I know I know every company measures different and some mirrors poke out and others sweep back saving space also have you ever weighed it when it’s full of fuel and fluids to see if all the mods changed the weight much
My only little con on them is sound system but rear someone makes something can install that boost the bass some in the sound i would how well that does.i just really want one bad I was going to wait little bit but im not sure i can. Just hard with today world on loan and everything it sucks.
I agree that the sounds system is lacking, but I actually have a partnership coming up with Beat-Sonic and their amplifier system for our stock JBL system. I had a chance to hear it at the SEMA Show and will be doing a video on it once I receive it.
Great video dude, I am still deciding between the Acura Type S and this GR Corolla. Do I get the better drivetrain with the all wheel drive. Or do I go with a better interior, sound system, and power in the Type S. I am still undecided. But your vid was great keep up the good work.
You're absolutely right! I do have a plan to do that, I'm also running this non-scientific experiment of sorts by installing bolt-ons and reporting back how much does changes, without a tune. You'd be surprised how much feedback I get about putting parts on before tuning the ECU. I do have a plan to ECUTEK very, very soon.
I wouldn't worry too much about the track and warranty concerns some have brought up. I can count on one hand the stories I've heard, and you can see hundreds if not thousands of owners who are regularly at the track or have tracked their car. Just visit the forums to find a real ownership experience. There are dealerships who are readily selling at MSRP. I advise anyone to use Facebook and join groups for the GR Corolla and places like NO MARKUP TOYOTA, those groups will have you in an MSRP GR Corolla in a day. Size is relative to what your needs are, but for reference I'm 6'3", married, 3 kids, and I'm regularly putting everyone in the car to go somewhere and for myself, its ample room and space. I just completed a road trip to NY/Northeast, packed with all things and 2 kids for over 2 weeks.
In most cases yes you are correct, here uniquely on the ECU of this care, they are self learning abilities, which is why a lot of tuning software took time to be developed. BUT... the tune and ECUTEK is right around the corner... stay tuned!
Do you mind me asking how much the insurance costs you? I am currently getting a quote and have requested a call back. I imagine I'll have to pay more than you as I'm in the UK and the GR Corolla is not sold here so I'd have to import one from Japan or Australia if I were to buy.
Insurance isn’t terrible, though in the state of Texas it’s been a bit crazy because they’ve raised rates here Nikole times, due to storms, etc. Right now I’m around $140/mo and that includes full vehicle replacement and only OEM parts in any repairs. My insurance is through Toyota.
also ironic with the hatchback space, the normal corolla hatch has the same floor height, so the AWD argument is actually not correct, toyota just really made a weird decision on that

I’m at 21k miles, changed my oil to 5w-30 cause it runs hot, what oil temp do you usually end up in traffic under all the heat? I’m thinking of an oil cooler cause it reaches 220 on some hard street driving! Also have you ran into third gear grinding? It’s most likely cause of my pitch mount being abused, I’m gonna fill them with window sealer from 3M 😂 gotta change my trans fluid tho…
Normal temp is around 220, but that from my research in this motor isn’t high enough to warrant a cooler. I’ve also only kept it to the same oil, due to my understanding of the tolerances built into the engine. But sustained track and hard driving I see where a different oil comes into play. As for grinding I’ve never experienced it. I also run and aftermarket pitch mount from SXTH Element and a shirt shifter that combines two. One from BilletWorkz the other from RacerX.
I actually haven't heard that from the group of friends I have with GRCs. A few of us regularly track the car, I have over 34K miles now and a few others I know. Haven't seen a single transmission issue and I do not baby the car. I also run the IMT everyday. I would suspect that most cases of failure could be due to abuse or how it was driven.

Subaru is busy teasing the "idea" of an STi with the new Ts model, but alot of my friends with GR Corolla were also those who waited to see if we would get a proper STi replacement.
There was a group on the forums making some kits I was waiting for, so most likely my goal is to do that within the year, as long as I don't go for other engine parts or aesthetics.
My issue is the position. It's too forward so it ends up putting pressure on my knees because the back of my legs are unsupported. If I could rotate the seat backward like my CTR seats allow, it would make my knees hurt less. It's not really the height specifically.
@@streamius its not about headroom.. its about feeling that you are sitting too high. like if you were sitting "on" the car not "in" the car. and i feel the same way
I think the issue, and its not an "issue" in the sense of safety or having the ability to drive the car, everyones torso to leg percentage... lol... is different. So for some who are similar to my height (6'3") some may have a longer torso to legs. For me, I've been used to driving alot of previous cars with aftermarket bucket seats that sat very low, so I do prefer that style of seating.
Question, when you say spacers, I'm assuming you added that to the front of the seat to tilt it back at a steeper angle? If so, what did you use for the spacers?
Those shoes are nice next to the car haha. Also, I am not sure if you have experienced this or not, but smaller drinks with lids don't fit in the cup holders because of the e break. Is there any cup holder accessories that can stick into the cup holder so smaller cups can sit in without the lid being held up by the e break?
To be honest, I noticed that with a larger cup my wife had, and I just bought different ones that fit better, but I have seen some owners use the rear seat cupholders for that.

Awesome. I'm thinking to replace my 20 year old STI. NO car as yet been able to replace this marvelous machine. Is the GR a good candidate ? And it's a bit pricy. STI and EVO did not cost as much for similar package (dodging Mazda speed and Golf-R since those are for tourist.. ;) I appreciate the honest review. Cheers.
The timing with economies and money its definitely not at the best time that Toyota would introduce this car, but I'm happy they did. I came from an older STi hatchback. Also LOVED and still do the Evo's... this car is literally the ethos of those cars. Its why I bought it.
OEM tires never last for me on new cars. I think they put cheap tires on new cars, despite the brand names. This has happened on my Chevy and two Honda's I've owned (the tires usually on last about 25,000 miles and they are highly prone to punctures.
I'm at 20K now I'm mine just made a post on FB and Reddit. I'd be at 35K if I didn't rotate it with my Type R as well lol. I like your videos and I look up stuff constantly for the GRC since I basically live in mine with my job. I'll be catching up to ya but also crushed a deer recently so it'll be down for that. 😢

Appreciate the sub and you watching! I was in the same boat looking at a FL5 CTR or the GRC. What led me to the GRC was its unique nature. Plus I wanted AWD. The CTR is fantastic, if I had the means, I would have both. But something about the 3-cylinder turbo and Toyotas history with the GR brand. It’s a special car. I wasn’t too fond of the Golf R and most of that is preference to what VW had done to the Golf R over the years.
Please talk about the cyclic droning noise at about 3k rpm at 6th gear, you have been driving a lot on free way, I bet you have noticed this noise already, thank you
I bet that's the tires... the Pilot Sport 4s get loud once they have some wear on them. My GRC went from pretty quiet at speed to droning once the tires got past 15k miles.
I'm going to agree with what @sagiru replied and said.. yes I initially heard that sound, and do think a part of it is based on the AWD drivetrain and components, but the tires are playing a huge role in this to me. I ran the Michelin's to 24-25K miles, on a roadtrip to New Orleans I could hear a lot of road noise and that droning the entire way. However, when I replaced the tires for Continental I have not experienced that sound. I may have a little, but I'm having a hard time remember or thinking of an instance where I heard the same noise getting more and more prominent as the miles went on. This is all a theory. I have done a few roadtrips with the Continental tires and the sound I heard going through New Orleans has not been apparent.
Because dealerships are not all the same, YMMV with whether you should have a dealership do it or yourself. For me, I had the dealership do it, also due to not having the facilities to perform all the changes for diff fluids and transmission. Also, worse case scenario, lets say the dealer screwed it up royally... they would have a documentation of the work they messed up.
OH absolutely! I was commuting daily in this car and I LOVED it. AS long as you are comfortable driving a manual each day, and if you aren't in crazy gridlock traffic daily. However, I drive manual regardless of any traffic, so for me its never an issue. But overall in my experience its been a great fun car and a commuter.

I went through the full gamut of cars... FL5 CTR, Golf R, VB WRX, imported old Japanese cars.. and I just felt a way about the GRC and driving it... just connects with me.
By the standards of a base Corolla, I wouldn't say its efficient because you have to use 91/93 octane fuel and I can get this car under 15 MPG if you are driving it hard. Commuting and normal daily activities will have you around 25-30MPG.
Not many content creators are doing these you get the occasional 1000 mile review but 1000 miles ain’t shit lol put some miles on then let’s talk. Good video bro

There is nothing crazy about that. I’m a car enthusiast and if I had the means for multiple cars, there would be a warehouse covering all facets of car. If you have the opportunity to go for a Cayman or 911, I can’t knock that at all. You are talking about historically excellent sports cars.
I looked at a GR Corolla but for the same price and zero percent interest, I ended up with a Subaru Ascent Limited, lifted, KMC Wheels, AT tires, brush bar, brake controller, molded floor mats, and tuning port. I’ve since deleted the mufflers and did a down pipe. Waiting for a pro tune, but currently out runs my son’s stock 2021 WRX. I have yet to run a GR Corolla.😂

The funniest part is downshifting until it burbles and pops🤣🤣🤣 Too much fun. I had a Cop laughing at me downshifting through an intersection when is was popping. My children pointed him out😬
Why would anyone buy a car like that then lower it? I dont know how many people been to Pennsylvania but that grolla would be destroyed by the roads if it had a lowering kit. Driving that car stock in the snow would damage the grill too
You definitely need to know what your area is like... out here in Texas, at least my area, roads are flat and smooth. Plus we don't have winter. But, I lived on the East Coast too, and we had lowered cars, you just pay CLOSE attention and memorize the bad roads, and don't drive it in the winter. Lol.
30k? Don’t you think You’re too big for that compact car? It might affect your mpg and the aerodynamics performance. You're really pushing that little car to its limits; perhaps you should consider upgrading to a V8.
You'll be surprised to hear I hate large, big cars. Car size is an American construct, we don't need bigger cars. But as for this motor, the 3-cylinder part is bit new to most people, which I get them thinking more cylinders will somehow produce a better MPG or longevity... it all depends on how its engineered. Now if your goal is power, like a lot of it, yes more displacement will be your friend, especially when you introduce forced induction. Comparing what I've modified here, over 300 to the wheel, over 300 foot pounds of torque, the motor lets say is around 350HP, maybe a little more, under 3500 pounds weight, comparing say, a Charger Scat Pack at 485HP, weighing a little under 5000 pounds... I have a nice time playing around with them in my city. Lol. But for me, even at my size, I don't need space. I also don't carry my kids in this car regularly, so I put the seat far back, and my legs (at 6'3") are stretched out... nice and comfortable.

Nice.....I just hit 16k miles on my 2023 Corolla GR my paint is almost perfect I fixed a couple rock chips. My interior still has the new car smell. I wash the car weekly and vacuum every 2 weeks. My only mod is SXTH Intercooler.
Nice! I'm not gonna say I wash/vacuum every week... lol but I love the car even more. I'm looking to also get an upgraded intercooler soon.

I would hope that the clutch wouldn’t have issues at 30k miles! I put 165k miles on the original clutch of a 2000 ford focus and currently 157k on the clutch in my 2016 ford focus st. I work a gearbox like nobody’s business. I was disappointed in my 2006 Acura RSX type S as it only got 75k miles from the clutch and it was far superior to the 2000 focus I traded in for it:( then it was cut short of its life when a giant buck jumped into it doing 70mph on the highway with 164k miles on it in December of 15 which is when I bought the ST. Looking in the next year or so to get a new one. Looking at the gr Corolla , integra type s or the Lexus is 350 f sport awd or possibly the golf R.
Everything you said is how it should be on manual cars. Long lasting clutches, but you would be surprised how many people have burned the clutch up on this car.
Hard launches, hard driving, bad driving and I've seen the complaints enough times I get asked if these clutches are bad. I simply say those people can not drive and/or they've had a very unfortunate series of events.
Core with performance pack is the way to go. Circuit is just way too expensive for this type of car

If modifying is in the cards, it’s a very good option from a cost perspective.
I had a core with performance pack, I was stupid enough to get a blue flame circuit.
I wish I kept my red core.

I’m considering switching from a 21 STI to this. I loved the Evo IX and I heard the GRC is similar to it. The STI, even with coils/swaybar, doesn’t seem to handle quite like the Evo. Do you think it’s worth it to switch?
I came from a STi Hatchback, not a 2021, but I have a love for STi's as well. For me, the allure here was the hatchback and being AWD (yes I know the Golf R exists), but I wanted something more raw, connected, similar to the older STi's and Evo's. For me this answers all those desires.
Great video, been looking at getting one soon. I really hope dealers chill out on the markups of this vehicle. It needs to stay alive and not die like many enthusiastic cars before it.

At 11k my grc needed 4 new tires. The back two wheel rims where replace and the alignment was also out of spec.
Toyota warrantied everything after I told the dealership they could come get it. Went to 245s also.
My tires made it to around 24k miles. I’ve been meaning to have an alignment checked and will be doing so soon. The 345s feel great!
Bought mine right before the New Year, have just over 6400 miles on it currently. Still loving it

CarQuicks... get the support plate for your SXTH Element arm rest... no more shaking. I just upgraded mine with the support plate... It made it solid as what you'd expect as OEM.

Love this video, my man, I watched your 9,000-mile video. I missed the 15,000-mile one, so I'll have to check that out, but I am almost at 4,000 Miles with my 2024 GRC Core. I'm absolutely enamored with it and can't wait to see how my love for it grows when I hit 30,000 miles like you. I appreciate you calling out because people have weird preconceived notions about the car or may even over-hyped it. It's just a very sexy, very sporty daily. It's a Corolla, but it has 300HP and a turbo. The interior must only be insane if you're willing to drop extra cash for the Premium, Circuit, or Morizo edition. I just got it ceramic coated with a 6-year warranty. I was surprised at the tire life you mentioned, and I will have to look into getting some new tires. I'm unsure if you've seen them, but the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 would be an excellent tire for this car with the recommended size.

Having owned some Subarus b4 the GRC. The great thing about this car is it doesn’t use a drop of oil. I am doing 3500mi OCI’s so can’t answer for longer intervals
From what I can tell, its still the same the higher in miles you go.
I have had my GR carolla since December 2023 and I love it. The only problem I’ve come across is with the headlights being too low which limits how far in front of the car the light reaches. It really deters me from driving at night cause it’s just unsafe . I have used the height adjustment switch in the car and they are up as high as they can go. I really need the highest position (1) to be midrange on the switch (3) my question is has anyone else had this problem and if so, have you corrected the problem and how?
You are actually the first person I've heard, mention this issue for driving at night. I've driven at night a lot with the car, but have never felt the light beam was too low.
This could also be my experience with dealing with low sitting cars. For a fix, the only thing I could think of is getting in contact with custom headlight builders (plenty on Instagram) and specifying a unique setup that matches your needs.
Ya I have noticed that too whenever I drive mine in the night, I guess that just what it is for lower cars 👀
Glad your paint is holding up. Flew down a few states and drove mine back. Nice big rock hit the hood with only 2 hours left of my drive lol. 300 miles with a good scratch already but just incentivises me to get the CE hood now 😅
You know blessings come at weird times! LOL! I only PPF’d the front bumper, but the paint is cheap so if you have a good paint chip person you could make it about disappear.

@@CarQuicks I did a light foamectomy. Not my first rodeo (I’m 6’6”). Must say… pretty huge difference to the good. Now I can see under the rear view mirror rather than around it. Also feel like there is now lateral support for my ass.

With the V2 fix I haven’t seen anyone post about a CEL and I personally did not experience any.
I got it as my first manual car, premium in black. It's an amazing car. I do notice that the bite point is extremely high up, 75%-80% of the release.
I'm so used to driving many different manual cars I never noticed that nuance, but you are right.
I had a wrx and when I changed the intake, I HAD to get a tune. With my GR CE, adding a downpipe and intake we don’t need to have a tune?
With the GRC you do not need to tune right away. Matter fact, I've been running for thousands of miles. One thing to know, the GRC ECU is capable of learning and modifying fuel/air on the car after modifications.
A small amount, but there is a change and one that has been documented by tuners on this platform.
Obviously to benefit from everything, you will want to tune to get maximum potential.
Wanting to pick up a Blue Flame 2024 Circuit Edition, I'm terrified of the forged carbon roof though. The owner's manual is incredibly strict with maintenance on it, and not having a garage gives me stress. I'm hoping a full ceramic coating would be enough to protect the roof from sitting outside 24/7.
I know a few CE owners who do not park in the garage. One of the things you can do is PPF the roof to protect it.
Torn on this and a wrx Ik this will perform better out of the box but with the 10k I’m saving I can have it performing better what yall think
Depends on your end goal. Both cars are capable, but personally I never buy a car under the idea of what is cheaper to modify. If I don't like how it looks, just the simple, I wont buy it.
Aftermarket potential or how much parts cost is not my first factor in buying a car, I have to first like looking at it in stock form. Everything else can be achieved, some might cost more than others, but the overall foundation is the most important.
I was torn on this but I ended up choosing the WRX, not cuz of the tuning, but I can make the payments of WRX. The GR is still marked up 8k everywhere and it just isn’t worth it at the moment you know??
Bro i run a restaurant and deliver 100+ person catering orders with this car regularly. It has good storage you just have to give up the back seats. if you build a custom mount you can move the battery to the right store it there; and drop a piece (2 pieces) of custom cut plywood and a rear seat delete and wind up with storage similar to a pickup. Add some cheap car carpet in black and bam it looks sick and is huge storage
plus when the rear seats are gone you get improved visibility and an excuse to not haul people.
I’ve said too that is someone (maybe that’s me haha) built a better place for the battery and made a floor for storage but to gain more up top, it’ll make the storage even better.

How do the Continental tires compare to the stock Michelins? Are they as responsive? I was disappointed when i changed from the summer pilot sport to the all season pilot sport in the decreased steering responsiveness.
One thing to note is that All_season tires of any kind, even if touted as performance grade, will not compare to the summer/performance variant of that tire. The Continental tire I'm running is not an All Season, with the 245 sizing it performs amazing. The responsiveness and grip are a better in my driving. Sound and road noise has been greatly improved.
@@CarQuicks I figured the all season would ride softer but it doesn't, I'm confused how it seems to have less stiff sidewalls and yet still rides the same.

I'm currently running a 245 Continental tire.
The tires are excellent so far. Now I will admit, I have not been diligent in rotating them at all. But I did just complete a 4000 miles roadtrip and the ride quality, noise are excellent. I would recommend a 245 tire and this brand.
Heck ya man. Maybe an unpopular opinion but I’m not a big fan of our 235 Michelin pilot sports. Dont get me wrong they’re cool when you gas it on the highway! But the streets of socal are unforgiving 😅

I just came back from a 5000 miles roadtrip nearing 38,000 miles, no rattles and everything has held up great! The one thing you will hear about are the weak grille tabs that have broken on many cars including mine. I had it replaced under warranty.

i know you did tons of research before buying the gr corolla, but just super curious in Texas where you dont get extreme winter like here in canada why did you not choose the FL5 type R instead? what steer you away from type R?
I actually drove an FL5 Type-R a few times and considered it. However, I'm not a big fan of FWD cars, even without winter, the dynamics on how FWD cars react compared to RWD or AWD, isn't my go-to formula. Extremely capable cars, and in all daily duties, one wouldn't really tel it was FWD.
Also, for me, my last car was a Honda S2000. For me that was a pinnacle of true sports car. I also previously owned a WRX STi hatchback and wanted to get back to that formula.
Lastly, in the realm of unique cars, the FL5 is familiar in the sense of the motor being the same from the FK8, with suspension tweaks to up its abilities on the track. Track racing wasn't on my list of needs. When I look and drive the GR Corolla, the character of its 3-cylinder, the response of the AWD system on the backroads, the sounds, rawness of the whole car, resonated with me like the days of Evo 8/9s and Subaru. To me this is the last of a truly unique sport compact car.
@@CarQuicks damn, you should really make a video of your opinion comparing the fl5 to grc. i own a grc ,but my wife hates it she kept convincing me to trade it in for a fl5, but here in Canada, FL5 are like finding needle in the sea, so hard to find, and when you find one its already 20k marked up and they would only take trades in for you grc like 10k less than the retail value for trade in. Definitely a big lose. I only second thought the idea of trade in cus the FL5 honestly looks not bad compare to the grc. But really like your opinion thanks for sharing!

Nothing else, the 245/40 size tire is the same size on the Morizo edition and the wheels are the identical 8.5" width.

@@CarQuicks gives you a more direct throttle input n you get back on boost quicker plus it’s recirculating so you don’t need a tune
A bit off topic but what is the real world width from outer edges of mirrors or whatever is widest point I know what website it correct for where they measure but it’s without mirrors and it doesn’t say where it’s measured so it may not even include the fender flares for all I know I know every company measures different and some mirrors poke out and others sweep back saving space also have you ever weighed it when it’s full of fuel and fluids to see if all the mods changed the weight much
Any news about fire smoking out of the engine and Toyota voided warranties if the vehicle goes over 85mph?
My only little con on them is sound system but rear someone makes something can install that boost the bass some in the sound i would how well that does.i just really want one bad I was going to wait little bit but im not sure i can. Just hard with today world on loan and everything it sucks.
I agree that the sounds system is lacking, but I actually have a partnership coming up with Beat-Sonic and their amplifier system for our stock JBL system. I had a chance to hear it at the SEMA Show and will be doing a video on it once I receive it.

You're absolutely right! I do have a plan to do that, I'm also running this non-scientific experiment of sorts by installing bolt-ons and reporting back how much does changes, without a tune. You'd be surprised how much feedback I get about putting parts on before tuning the ECU. I do have a plan to ECUTEK very, very soon.
I love this car. My only problems would be.
1. Size being a little smaller
2. Sealer markup
3. Toyota not covering issues if you track your car
I wouldn't worry too much about the track and warranty concerns some have brought up. I can count on one hand the stories I've heard, and you can see hundreds if not thousands of owners who are regularly at the track or have tracked their car. Just visit the forums to find a real ownership experience.
There are dealerships who are readily selling at MSRP. I advise anyone to use Facebook and join groups for the GR Corolla and places like NO MARKUP TOYOTA, those groups will have you in an MSRP GR Corolla in a day.
Size is relative to what your needs are, but for reference I'm 6'3", married, 3 kids, and I'm regularly putting everyone in the car to go somewhere and for myself, its ample room and space. I just completed a road trip to NY/Northeast, packed with all things and 2 kids for over 2 weeks.

Yo heads up running a downpipe without tuning the engine is dangerous. You're running it lean and it will cause catastrophic damage
In most cases yes you are correct, here uniquely on the ECU of this care, they are self learning abilities, which is why a lot of tuning software took time to be developed. BUT... the tune and ECUTEK is right around the corner... stay tuned!

Do you mind me asking how much the insurance costs you? I am currently getting a quote and have requested a call back. I imagine I'll have to pay more than you as I'm in the UK and the GR Corolla is not sold here so I'd have to import one from Japan or Australia if I were to buy.
Insurance isn’t terrible, though in the state of Texas it’s been a bit crazy because they’ve raised rates here Nikole times, due to storms, etc. Right now I’m around $140/mo and that includes full vehicle replacement and only OEM parts in any repairs. My insurance is through Toyota.

I’m at 21k miles, changed my oil to 5w-30 cause it runs hot, what oil temp do you usually end up in traffic under all the heat? I’m thinking of an oil cooler cause it reaches 220 on some hard street driving! Also have you ran into third gear grinding? It’s most likely cause of my pitch mount being abused, I’m gonna fill them with window sealer from 3M 😂 gotta change my trans fluid tho…
Normal temp is around 220, but that from my research in this motor isn’t high enough to warrant a cooler. I’ve also only kept it to the same oil, due to my understanding of the tolerances built into the engine.
But sustained track and hard driving I see where a different oil comes into play.
As for grinding I’ve never experienced it. I also run and aftermarket pitch mount from SXTH Element and a shirt shifter that combines two. One from BilletWorkz the other from RacerX.

It ain’t hard, I’ve put 10k on mine in 5ish months and I bought it new.
Get rid of the gauze air filter asap. The tiny bump in power is not worth the amount of contaminants those filters allow into the engine.
I actually checked the flow of air and how much debris could pass through that filer using compressed air and sand. Its perfectly good.
How's the transmission holding up?
I read that the transmission hubs are weak and wear out.
I actually haven't heard that from the group of friends I have with GRCs. A few of us regularly track the car, I have over 34K miles now and a few others I know. Haven't seen a single transmission issue and I do not baby the car. I also run the IMT everyday. I would suspect that most cases of failure could be due to abuse or how it was driven.

Subaru is busy teasing the "idea" of an STi with the new Ts model, but alot of my friends with GR Corolla were also those who waited to see if we would get a proper STi replacement.

There was a group on the forums making some kits I was waiting for, so most likely my goal is to do that within the year, as long as I don't go for other engine parts or aesthetics.
Have had my CE for nearly a year; Ie every time I drive it I try to understand the whole seat height issue. I am 5-9 and I feel low enough in the car.
It's just not that bad. 6'4", plenty of headroom, but I did add some spacers to the front for more leg support.
My issue is the position. It's too forward so it ends up putting pressure on my knees because the back of my legs are unsupported. If I could rotate the seat backward like my CTR seats allow, it would make my knees hurt less. It's not really the height specifically.
@@streamius its not about headroom.. its about feeling that you are sitting too high. like if you were sitting "on" the car not "in" the car. and i feel the same way
I think the issue, and its not an "issue" in the sense of safety or having the ability to drive the car, everyones torso to leg percentage... lol... is different. So for some who are similar to my height (6'3") some may have a longer torso to legs.
For me, I've been used to driving alot of previous cars with aftermarket bucket seats that sat very low, so I do prefer that style of seating.
Question, when you say spacers, I'm assuming you added that to the front of the seat to tilt it back at a steeper angle? If so, what did you use for the spacers?
Those shoes are nice next to the car haha. Also, I am not sure if you have experienced this or not, but smaller drinks with lids don't fit in the cup holders because of the e break. Is there any cup holder accessories that can stick into the cup holder so smaller cups can sit in without the lid being held up by the e break?
Rear middle seat drop down cupholders I’ve used for this exact reason 😂
To be honest, I noticed that with a larger cup my wife had, and I just bought different ones that fit better, but I have seen some owners use the rear seat cupholders for that.

The timing with economies and money its definitely not at the best time that Toyota would introduce this car, but I'm happy they did. I came from an older STi hatchback. Also LOVED and still do the Evo's... this car is literally the ethos of those cars. Its why I bought it.
OEM tires never last for me on new cars. I think they put cheap tires on new cars, despite the brand names. This has happened on my Chevy and two Honda's I've owned (the tires usually on last about 25,000 miles and they are highly prone to punctures.
I'm at 20K now I'm mine just made a post on FB and Reddit. I'd be at 35K if I didn't rotate it with my Type R as well lol. I like your videos and I look up stuff constantly for the GRC since I basically live in mine with my job.

Appreciate the sub and you watching! I was in the same boat looking at a FL5 CTR or the GRC. What led me to the GRC was its unique nature. Plus I wanted AWD. The CTR is fantastic, if I had the means, I would have both. But something about the 3-cylinder turbo and Toyotas history with the GR brand. It’s a special car.
I wasn’t too fond of the Golf R and most of that is preference to what VW had done to the Golf R over the years.
Please talk about the cyclic droning noise at about 3k rpm at 6th gear, you have been driving a lot on free way, I bet you have noticed this noise already, thank you
I bet that's the tires... the Pilot Sport 4s get loud once they have some wear on them. My GRC went from pretty quiet at speed to droning once the tires got past 15k miles.
I'm going to agree with what @sagiru replied and said.. yes I initially heard that sound, and do think a part of it is based on the AWD drivetrain and components, but the tires are playing a huge role in this to me. I ran the Michelin's to 24-25K miles, on a roadtrip to New Orleans I could hear a lot of road noise and that droning the entire way.
However, when I replaced the tires for Continental I have not experienced that sound. I may have a little, but I'm having a hard time remember or thinking of an instance where I heard the same noise getting more and more prominent as the miles went on.
This is all a theory. I have done a few roadtrips with the Continental tires and the sound I heard going through New Orleans has not been apparent.

Because dealerships are not all the same, YMMV with whether you should have a dealership do it or yourself. For me, I had the dealership do it, also due to not having the facilities to perform all the changes for diff fluids and transmission. OH absolutely! I was commuting daily in this car and I LOVED it. AS long as you are comfortable driving a manual each day, and if you aren't in crazy gridlock traffic daily. However, I drive manual regardless of any traffic, so for me its never an issue. But overall in my experience its been a great fun car and a commuter.

I would need more information when you say vibration. Are you running a aftermarket pitch mount?

By the standards of a base Corolla, I wouldn't say its efficient because you have to use 91/93 octane fuel and I can get this car under 15 MPG if you are driving it hard. Commuting and normal daily activities will have you around 25-30MPG.

There is nothing crazy about that. I’m a car enthusiast and if I had the means for multiple cars, there would be a warehouse covering all facets of car. If you have the opportunity to go for a Cayman or 911, I can’t knock that at all. You are talking about historically excellent sports cars.

I looked at a GR Corolla but for the same price and zero percent interest, I ended up with a Subaru Ascent Limited, lifted, KMC Wheels, AT tires, brush bar, brake controller, molded floor mats, and tuning port. I’ve since deleted the mufflers and did a down pipe. Waiting for a pro tune, but currently out runs my son’s stock 2021 WRX. I have yet to run a GR Corolla.😂

Why would anyone buy a car like that then lower it? I dont know how many people been to Pennsylvania but that grolla would be destroyed by the roads if it had a lowering kit. Driving that car stock in the snow would damage the grill too
You definitely need to know what your area is like... out here in Texas, at least my area, roads are flat and smooth. Plus we don't have winter. But, I lived on the East Coast too, and we had lowered cars, you just pay CLOSE attention and memorize the bad roads, and don't drive it in the winter. Lol.

It might affect your mpg and the aerodynamics performance. You're really pushing that little car to its limits; perhaps you should consider upgrading to a V8.
You'll be surprised to hear I hate large, big cars. Car size is an American construct, we don't need bigger cars. But as for this motor, the 3-cylinder part is bit new to most people, which I get them thinking more cylinders will somehow produce a better MPG or longevity... it all depends on how its engineered.
Now if your goal is power, like a lot of it, yes more displacement will be your friend, especially when you introduce forced induction.
Comparing what I've modified here, over 300 to the wheel, over 300 foot pounds of torque, the motor lets say is around 350HP, maybe a little more, under 3500 pounds weight, comparing say, a Charger Scat Pack at 485HP, weighing a little under 5000 pounds... I have a nice time playing around with them in my city. Lol.
But for me, even at my size, I don't need space. I also don't carry my kids in this car regularly, so I put the seat far back, and my legs (at 6'3") are stretched out... nice and comfortable.
