Chris, how blessed are we to be watching this guy ride? I started watching cycling early '22 and I'm just blown away by this kid. It's mind-blowing. Wout is probably my favorite but Tadej is so inspiring.
That course is much harder than they make it look. I rode the Strade Bianche Granfondo a few years ago and it was brutal. There are open flat sections where if a gap opens on the gravel, you're not chasing back unless you have a motor like Ganna. Plus the climbs are super punchy and that final climb into Piazza del Campo is a wall.
I did enjoy Jens Voigt wondering if Pogacar was going to LAP some racers on his way to victory (apparently race organizers pull anyone more than 1 min off the back of the "peloton," so no).
Great ride from Skujins. The recovery from the crash was pretty smooth. So many times, crashers sit for awhile cause they know they're out of it. Skujins' was out for glory and was up in a flash.
Sure, Tadej made the move of the day with his long breakaway. But a close second was Toms' adjusting his shades before getting back up and back on his bike. 😀

I applaud the efforts of the 2-3 finishers as they were only held back by their DS's, when the move was made , and a crash due to Simmons inattentiveness on the climb didn't help Skujins. Although, watching him and Maxim, it was apparent who was the strongest on the day outside of Tadej. Exciting race? depends on your interpretation. I am glad the announcers were able to keep the dialog rolling to make it interesting. They only mentioned shortly after he went up the road that he hasn't always had success in these types of attacks, leading the watching public to stay glued to the tele.
