Russian President Vladimir Putin is a leader who creates conflict and takes advantage of it when he wants to increase his popularity and image. Putin, who did this in Chechnya, Georgia, Libya and Syria, wanted to do the same in Ukraine. The invasion attempt, which started on February 24, has turned into a great failure and defeat for Russia as of now. The Russian Army, which did not expect a great resistance as in the places it had occupied before, and planned to seize Kiev in a few days, could not calculate that Ukraine would show a great resistance.
Secondly, the massive military aid to the Ukrainian Army was probably not something Putin could have predicted. This was a big surprise for Putin, who thought that he would get what he wanted with a fait accompli like in 2014. Dozens of drones vehicles from Turkey and many military weapon systems, especially HIMARS from the US, were the factors that reversed this situation. The course of the war turned in Ukraine's favor.
As the war dragged on, logistical and equipment problems for Russia began to increase. For Russia, which lost more than half of its ammunition in Ukraine, a great shortage of weapons and ammunition emerged.
In addition, after the beginning of the occupation, Western countries imposed a great sanction on the Russian economy. Economically, Russia was in trouble, and its trade with Western countries was significantly reduced.
Considering all this, it cannot be said that there is only one reason for Russia's loss. What they all have in common is that Putin did not think the war would last that long and followed wrong and erroneous strategies.
