The problem is that those who support the war are encouraged by the state to do so loudly and aggressively, while those who are against, are repressed and scared and trying to not openly voice their minds. Your interviews are showing a shift in Russian attitudes from earlier attitudes. Less denial. A bit more courage in people speaking their minds. Some of it no doubt is because of state media's ever increasing hostilities toward Ukraine which, quite frankly, I find shocking. Hopefully Russians too are equally shocked by such hatred toward neighboring countries. Your questions about Russians ultimately having to pay the price for rebuilding Ukraine is very thought-provoking. Russians need more of these questions to get them to think through the implications of invading foreign countries. Another thought-provoking question would be to ask Russians what they think of Putin likening his invasion of Ukraine to Peter The Great's invasions.
Invading Ukraine for us Russians is to invade our own brothers. Even Chechnya could be considered just a distant cousin. But almost every ethnic Russian has ancestral or familial ties to Ukraine. Imagine if the US invaded Canada during the trucker protests. A special military operation designed to once again 'normalize' the trading lanes that were disturbed. Except instead of doing that, all major Canadian cities were bombed and thousands of civilians needlessly died. Then the government says it is illegal to mention or protest these atrocities. I think many people in the US would be silently outraged. I think it is possible that like Russia, many would not want to believe it. Others would wish to avoid this truth, as it is so shameful to confront. As a Russian here in the US, i think about these things a lot. I try to remember we are not all so different or complicated. Thank you. Watched a video today from St.Petersburg and there was a concert with dancing and looked like everyone was having fun, not a care in the world. Thought about how meaningful it would have been to show these people your pictures. It was the live streaming, right? Did you really see happy people there? What I could see, almost no one ate or drunk anything... I know the reason, people are saving money! I don't know about 'dancing and concerts', but Kiev today is pretty much back to normal because Russian strikes were pinpoint; heavy damage in the outskirts where Ukrainian forces, legitimately, sought to engage Russians.

I didn't get these vibes from her at all. If anything, the interviewees need to be concerned about their safety because they don't know what to expect. The guy holding the interview is technically fine because he doesn't say that these pictures are real. If I was being interviewed, I'd be worried hidden police officers would jail me if I said something wrong.
Yet more excellent content that confirms this TH-cam channel is now the pre-eminent one for westerners to receive an unbiased window on public opinion within Russia re the war in Ukraine. We know you, 1420, are also horrified and sickened at what's taking place, but please be careful. The importance of your channel at this time cannot be underestimated but your supporters have no wish to see you languishing in a Russian prison. I only hope you're appreciated as much inside Russia as you are outside. As said be careful, stay safe - and thank you for your integrity.
This channel is more west-oriented, regular russians in majority know the situation around them and don't need such videos. Anti-putin russians watch Популярная Политика (news channel by Navalny team), Максим Кац (analytical channel, he started doing english subtitles to his videos btw, highly recommend), Ходорковский Live (kinda like an alternative TV by Mikhail Khodorkovsky), also TV Rain (Телеканал Дождь) will re-open in Europe soon... So yeah, russians watch different type of content, more in-depth.
I wouldn't consider this channel unbiased. It has a heavy western tilt. He is either in Moscow or Saint Petersburg. It would be kind of like talking to people in Washington D.C. or Los Angeles or New York City and not small towns in the Midwest. Plus it is highly unlikely that he includes every person he talks to in these videos. While there is good information to be gained from these videos, they are not representative. The guy fourth from the end with the pink shirt who is from Ukraine, that guy alone made this video worth watching.
Yeah, I don’t think this is unbiased. He interviews mostly young people in parks in the big cities. Public opinion could be completely different among other demographics. For example in rural areas, older populations, etc. It is very good to see though that the young urban population is less affected by propaganda than we had initially thought.
@@bastiaanbogers4114 Young people tend to have better access to the internet and are more anti-war(they're the ones sent to fight). With that said, young people aren't as knowledgeable so if all other things are equal, young people are more likely to fall for propaganda. The nice thing about young people though is that they are generally more distrusting of the system since they have more to gain from change. Older people want stability/security not revolution.

obviously the Russians know almost nothing in life because they only have their own Russian propaganda. Some are afraid to say something and some quietly agree to the murder. It's very silly to say in the famous war photos that the whole world sees on TV every day that it's a fake. It is terribly sad how Russian citizens perceive the surrounding world.
It's so upsetting that some people think the photos are fake. Regular people on TH-cam have been recording live from Ukraine showing the destruction, not just the news sources. Some responses were thoughtful.
I feel even more sad about the people who just say "I don't care about politics".
At least the people who say it is fake are at least thinking a tiny bit. Those who refuse to even think that much, I just want to shake them.

The problem is that those who support the war are encouraged by the state to do so loudly and aggressively, while those who are against, are repressed and scared and trying to not openly voice their minds. a gold mine of propaganda from some western paid agent
That's what the politicians/media does, with all their propaganda. Like "It's the Russians' fault," etc. And the same thing happens in the east, like "It's the fault of the Americans, of the West," and so on. They make people hate each other! We need to wake up! They did the same with the plan-demic, and they will do the same with any other scheduled crisis, such as the devaluation of money (that paper printed at the behest of some 'tricksters') or the food crisis (which while we are made to hate neighbors, food is destroyed around the world).
At 2:10 I don't even know what to say. He says that Russia arrived in their land and it helps them. I am yet hopeful based on some of the more reasonable people interviewed here. Thank you.
Dziękujemy.
This war will truly have no winners... This whole thing has burnt a hole in my heart. A terrible shame now lives there, as I'm certain it would for Americans in the scenario i proposed above.

@@afookingarcher7195 People in the US would NOT be silently outraged by such an action. People in the US would be on the f rampage by such an action. Most Russians are not citizens anymore. They have NEVER lived in a democracy. They have had all political notions knocked out of them. Somehow they need to become moral citizens again. That would be the start of improvements for the Russian people. Somewhere that individuals want to help create a society and community, not be forced to live in a society formed from corrupt subjugation.

I'm from Serbia and lived for 30 years in germany. I can tell you what will be in 3 years: 90% of Russians will say that they hated Vladimir and they didn't know about all that stuff. It is the same today with the Serbs and Milosevic. And it was the same with germans and the Nazis. The common people are just too scared. It's not easy being a hero in a dictatorship.
Are there not a lot of Serbians that still approve of what Milosevic was doing?
@@sollte1239 Maybe 10%-not more. But 90% hate the USA because of the bombing.
Have you got brainwashed in Germany...? By the way I believe or merely hope the same will happen in Russia. But can we hope that what happened in Serbia in three years, happen in 30 years in Russia? One problem is that many of young, educated people will move abroad in the next few years. Exactly the important workforce for the next ten years, and this will have some impact on the whole sociaty and slow down the development. The sanctions will hit quite hard towards the end of the year (thinks a Russian economist living in Russia that I follow on TH-cam).
You're too generous. Many people here speak against what's going on or at least hint it. Others claim to be indifferent or straight up support it. They'll all change their tune once the powers have shifted. Some people are just pathetic spineless self centered obedient sheep who don't care about anything as long as they're alright. Those are Russians who left the country though, so there would be a higher percentage of them who disliked Vladimir Putin.

@@TransistorLSD Quite so. But is it a need to watch videos that is important? How about this one: th-cam.com/video/d1pOahq4TCk/w-d-xo.html
