Your canoe adventures are a welcome relief and antidote to the insanity of the United Kingdom right now. For a while I can immerse myself in the Canadian wilderness, it's a balm for the soul. Keep doing what you're doing, it's sorely needed in these beyond the Twilight Zone strange times.
Same here Andy... not sure the insanity is limited to just us in UK, but we definitely need escapism and, like you, I also find it in the Canadian wilderness with these vids and similar. Food for the imagination. Good luck to you (and me!!) in 🇬🇧
Your pros during this episode are top notch! Your line, "canoeing is apart of me, wound around and within me like twine holding my fleshy seams together" hit me deep. Epic video as always!
"What say you". Such a nice surprise to hear in the wilderness. Learning much about Canada from my humble seat in your canoe. Hope your thumb healed w/o incidence.
Absolutely incredible! I can only imagine the peace and serenity one can experience in solitude like that. I really appreciate your respect for nature. The campsites, collecting "souvenirs" every fish you catch gets a thank you on their way. Many people could learn a thing or two from you
That cabin smelling like death....ugh. Hidden talents that the bird wanted to participate in hahaha. And your face straining in the rapids and then joy. Yes, it must be a grand feeling. Thank-you for documenting your adventure. 🙂
First class trip and videography as usual. Very nice shots of several mushrooms and those moose were excellent models. Always good to have a pile of nice Walleyes to keep a guy distracted when on the river!
Great trip, was a privilege to watch. I hope you know these videos are not JUST entertaining. They are good for the soul, they are inspiring. During these messed up times they give some of us that little sliver of the wild that we haven't had for a while or that current situations won't allow. Keep paddling Jon!
Wow, what a great watch. The extra time you’re putting into your channel is really paying off. What fun-packed runs, and the love and knowledge you have that you’re sharing is awesome. Love your channel. Thanks John
Paused the video at the "to season this fish I've got some wild grass and flowers..." it's one thing to say something that's really funny, but another to set the stage! Loving the content. Take care of that thumb. Cheers.
I have watched many of your videos Jon and this one stands out. Really awesome. Thank You for being kind to the fish. I taught my boys to water release and thank the fish, that just demonstrates respect. My respect for you grows with each video. Thank You! Go Well!
Like always very well put to together!!!!!! Just Stunning Beauty!!!!!!! You guy's (Canadians) are the true "Bushman" of the north! Thank you for taking us along. Say Hi to Erin for me.. Vic
Watching this video has been such a beautiful way to spend some time before lunch on this cold Sunday morning! My coffee tasted better than ever due to the restorative and refreshing outdoor scenery and sounds. Excellent video!
Just love to watch these long trips of yours . you have everything I love to watch. Rain . camping . your setting up camp . also tge catch and cooks . not to mention the narration through tge video.thanks so much for all your hard work
Hahah Erin got me one this spring and I've worn it on whitewater since (I think) except my trip with Xander because the water was so low I didn't think we'd be running anything 😅
Damn I really need to quit my job and run these northern rivers! So cool you can adventure out to these areas and explore with no managers/bosses beckoning you back to society. Keep living the dream! Have the Hip going in the background while watching, nice way to end the week.
I spend my evenings here vs any prime time TV movie etc, Jon you are a becoming a Canadian legend for documenting and working lost routs and new ones alike. Thank you for the hard grinds and the beautiful views!
Love these videos, and the poetry you speak. Thanks for all your hard work and spring will come again!!!🍁🍂🍁 Beautiful bear, moose, and falls, love it!!! Always an inspiration!!! ❤
Amazing as always. I love the integration of the maps oute shots during the video, and captions for the lake or river names so we can follow along. That was always something I was hoping for…. As a fellow Ontario resident, I really like to be able to understand where you actually are traveling as a way of better familiarizing myself with my own region and for potential future trip selection.
Absolute home run Jon, Your Introspection was spot on. beautiful scenery, awesome fishing, perfect amount of white water. I am a solo tripper most of the time myself. Very therapeutic for the SOUL, Well done. :) :)
I envy you for your adventures, and am thankful you've shared your experiences. I could have quit my job to do that too, but I didn’t and you did… On any given adventure, more seldom than you’d like I’m sure, you encounter bear, moose, etc., and the reason you do so is you venture far off the beaten path. Remote. “Normal” people don’t get these types of encounters very often. It’s easy to say people see bears all the time, and people have moose in their back yards. These people aren’t 4 days away from help. They aren’t in a spot where no one will hear their cries for help. I have been remote, but not likely as far as you. People that haven’t been there don’t appreciate the “No one’s going to be here to help me if I need help” scenario. The Zolio is a great tool, but so is a gun, and guns don’t help when you need a doctor. Thanks again for sharing your adventures.
Its funny that dead tree was so huge but yet it looked so easy when you pushed it over. It was like you were as strong as the hulk pushing that tree over.
I can't wait for spring again. Grab my kayak, head out and visit some long time no see lakes close by:))) There are a few lakes I like to revisit here in south of norway, that is great fishing and nice camp places. Great video and looking forward to next:)))
Lovely. It feels like we're right there with you, except we're dry, without the hard work, and no bugs. Thank you for sharing the adventure, for the great job editing them. It's a lot of work, and you make it look easy. 💜
For what reason have I this vast range and circuit, some square miles of unfrequented forest, for my privacy, abandoned to me by men? There can be no very black melancholy to him who lives in the midst of nature and has his senses still. Thoreau
Being a hermit has its advantages. I can watch this video while eating my thanksgiving dinner without familial interruptions. 😆 It was cool seeing the big overview map to put it all in perspective for those of us in the states. You were way up there. I used to live 90 miles due south of Montreal on A15(?), which is interstate 87 in New York. I don’t think it will be long before you post a “How to install a spray deck” video 👍🏻 Fantastic trip video. Thanks Jon and Erin
"Acorns of this bliss in my mental soil", that's pure poetry and with the dampened guitar, pipes and opening video footage, one of the best first few minutes of any YT video this year, by anyone. Personally I don't think you're a wus for not hanging around that cabin, I look after a lonely farmhouse that was the inspiration for the Hound of the Baskervilles, it gives me the creeps after hundreds of trips there. Great footage of the bear and some of the best yet of moose. The voice overs are a nice touch, they put me in mind of my 'hero' Bill Mason, keep doing what you're doing. Hope you and your 'pocket rocket' are well...Rohan salutes you ;)
You are most kind sir, thanks a million Si!! 💚 Hahah if the mind doesn't normalize creepiness after hundreds of trips, I think it's fair to say your senses are picking up on something real 😅
One of my favorites ever Jon. And your words about the canoe and what it means to you, and how end of season feels… had me tearing up. I do have to ask about those Trapper cabins tho. Truly appreciate that Max 💚 It's a first world problem I guess, but it hits some of us hard this time of year. The golden rule here is that a citizen can only occupy a crown land camp site for 21 days, after which point they have to move at least 100m. The first one on the river I'm sure would've been a trapper's cabin and I believe they never own the land but are given a permit for their trapline. The junkyard might've been a trapper's, but also could've been a fly-in outpost camp in which case I think it's most likely they'd be given a land use permit to build on the land (but might never own it). The third creepy one could be the same, or even a personal recreation camp where they owned it. My understanding is that the gov will rarely sell land these days, but back in the day it happened sometimes. If anyone understands this stuff better, feel free to correct me
Can't say enough about your work, Jon. I am in Arizona and own a cottage in Quebec in Zec des Joachims. Great place. So is Arizona in case you ever want to visit. I could get you started.
Very much appreciated! You've got the best of both worlds. Watched a canoe trip on the Rio Grande which looked stunning...not that that's in AZ but maybe similar experiences await there. Tempting, though my practical side usually stops me from dreaming about travelling so far for a trip 😅
26:08 I'm thinking Rough-legged Hawk (light morph). The 3 birds on shore looked and sounded like Greater Yellowlegs. So enjoyable to sit her with my coffee and and watch another one of your fantastic videos Joh!
Also ever thought of putting down all your beautiful selected words on paper & into a book? "Ode to the Walleye" dedicated to Aaron ( hope I've got the correct spelling).
Always enjoy your videos, love your poetry. Erin is very lucky to have you, your very smart and realize how valuable and important are environment is. Happy Holidays to both of you, Chris

Perfect timing Jon. Viewing will be great for after Thanksgiving dinner relaxation. A million times better than any NFL game. 😁
Thanks RiverOtter!! Thought it might work well for you folks down there with the day off :)
Couldn’t agree more
Exactly what I ended up doing after reading this comment, I waited till after the Thanksgiving dinner to watch this.. Good call..

0:50 to 1:30 was one of the most well written paragraphs I've ever heard. If you came up with that on your own, that's beyond impressive.
Really appreciate that! 💚💚
Oh yes. If you keep on like that you can write books as well.
Loved the video,John,Sheppey, E England.................................................
Truly another masterpiece, Jon! The footage of the moose and bear was amazing. The drone imagery is always appreciated.
Truly appreciate that WW!!

Absolutely perfectly filmed, loved coming along on this journey.
Getting straight poetic on this one eh? Great video, cheers
Your words painted a lovely picture at the beginning. You’ve become my favourite content creator easily.
Truly appreciate that! 💚
First class trip and videography as usual. Very nice shots of several mushrooms and those moose were excellent models. Always good to have a pile of nice Walleyes to keep a guy distracted when on the river!

That rapid run at 19 minutes was incredible.
Perfect way to end the snow less ice less season. By the way the black fly clap gag EPIC.

You really are getting trip time under the ol' PFD~~! Top editing and storytelling.
Never feels like enough time 😅 Much obliged Shug!
I love your tales from the empty cabins. Memories of northern times now past. That looked like some pretty good Ruffed Grouse country. Thx
You're living the dream full time, I'm watching them all brother! Cracking a beer and tucking into this tonight.
Living the dream indeed :) Cheers Patrick!! 🍻
@Grape Juice hahah would love beer out there but Scotch offers a better punch for the weight 😜
