I totally agree, I used to.look forward to watching every session on the BBC. That was the first nail in the coffin, when they stopped the coverage. The final one for me, was leaving lakeside. RIP BDO ☹️
I always looked forward to lakeside,it was good,first week in jan when you were generally a bit broke and cold,same faces too so the match ups were good,it wasn't the quality of PDC but was nice to see someone who otherwise wouldn't win a world trophy in the PDC,be a world champion in the BDO.

I don't deny there are problems with the BDO, but I went to the BDO World Professional Darts Championship in early January, and had a really good time. My best few days of the past 12 months!

As different as the BDO and PDC are, I always saw BDO as family friendly and exposure to more overseas players outside of Europe. Sad state of affairs the way BDO have found themselves. Their demise will cut off opportunity for a lot of players. Lest we forget women players were only in the BDO and it's a long road before many of them cross over. Really hope the BDO get in order or someone can take over. There will not be another organisation to match PDC but an alternative is always nice. Like Premier League, First Division, Championship etc.

Question: Why the underlying bitter hatred towards the BDO from so many people? I haven't been around the game long enough and in North America we never get the full story. I understand there was an acrimonious split in the early 90s that resulted in the PDC becoming the "higher level" and richer league, but from some of the videos, these guys really and truly hate each other - not just sports banter. Is it just because of the split? Or is there more to the story? Though I'm happy that the BDO folded. There ought to be a singular 'world championship' for all sports, darts included. It feels so watered down when they introduce former Lakeside champions - it almost sounds like a champion with an asterisk.
bdo was essentially british county ....pdc although supposedly professional ...really stands for 'privately' ran ..- This means more money revenue and takings for Hearne and the like ..when bdo shut down ....british county dARTS ALSO SHUT DOWN . .. a point that gets zero publicity . .. a whole lot of players were betrayed when this happened . . . .

Say what you will about Olly Croft, but when he was in charge, the BDO were solvent, had two tournaments shown on BBC, were still at the Lakeside and had an HQ in an upmarket part of London. All of which was lost by his successors. He was Barry Hearn compared to the dopes who followed him!

You can earn more going on an episode of bullseye than you can in BDO! Shame the original organisation aint been able to move with the times. TBH its been a loosing battle since the players to control from BDO at the birth of the PDC years ago. The owner's need to get someone in to take over promotions and admit they are not big enough for the job! Also they really missed Duzza this year he was there biggest draw by far! Hope they can turn it round though, BDO is the original I do not want to see it dwindle away. Changing the subject completely, I have to say I didn't like the look of them Gladiator 180 boards they used this year. Winmau is the only board that comes close to the Unicorn ones of the modern day.

I'm an American so I have not been to a live event but the camera coverage here I have seen is garbage. The camera person has no idea what they are doing and where the next dart is going. Paying the winner of a huge tournament 25k? That's a disgrace. Find a camera man or woman who knows what they're doing, get sponsors and pay the winning players 100k or more at least. All the time and money they spend to put on a show, make it worth their time.
What I can’t understand is the bdo players loyalty to des and Paula when theyve treated the players like shit. The women’s game to me is the diamond for the bdo and to think what they’ve done or more like what they haven’t done with it is scandalous and shows how inept des and Paula are.

It's obviously a mess, and perhaps is the death knoll of the BDO. I hope not. Irrespective of the problems now, for the sake of darts, throwing the baby out with the bath water IMO will be a mistake. Any sport must have a large base of players at "all" levels so that the sport can be played to extremely high standards at the top. What the BDO has historically facilitated is that base, and the changes, that everyone agrees are necessary, must have the larger picture as a focus.
TV was amateurish, not only the missed doubles but that bloody scoreboard covering up the darts. O2 was a mistake, plenty of other venues not in London!
Wow....The Fallon Sherrock prize money comparison really hits the point home at just how bad things have got. So every player that reached the same stage as Fallon played less matches, threw less darts and earned £13.000 more than this years BDO world champion. I'm in total agreement. I grew up watching all the old BDO boys and never thought I'd stop watching that tournament. It really has gone to pot. 👎🏽

Really went downhill after Barney left in 2006, up to then it was still quality at Lakeside on the BBC

What is the point of having two governing bodies in darts? It's confusing and totally not necessary. If you were an up and coming dart player let's be honest, you wouldn't be going any where near the BDO. It's finished, let's all move on.
