You're right. The PDC offer in 2001 should have been accepted. Olly Croft was too proud - and stubborn - to allow the BDO to be taken over. That, combined with the BBC dropping the Lakeside coverage and Des Jacklin's awful decision to move the world championship to the O2 brought about the demise of the BDO.
I don`t know he did alright for himself. Although I think he should have switched around the same time as Barney as he could have been a top 6 player in the PDC and won TV events and got in the PL.
I saw a clip of Adams playing in some joint event that involved some pdc players years ago and it was a rowdy pdc style crowd there. Adams struggled to cope with the crowd. He kept getting distracted and complained that they didn't calm down when he was throwing. I don't think he would've done well in the pdc for that reason.
Don't feel sorry for people accepting a mediocre, nay dire organisation. Adams did ok as he was one of the few that were well sponsored. Everyone else were pecking at crumbs, needing to reach semis and finals just to earn a bit.
BDO tournaments lacked the razzamataz and glitz offered by the PDC, but this was for me the real appeal of what started as a pub game. Croft spoke from the heart, was old school, and took his BDO to the grave with him.
The PDC and BDO just attracted completely different people (nothing wrong with that). I find PDC people (and I prefer the darts at the PDC btw) are more offended by the BDO crowd than the other way around TBH. Agree on Croft though haha

BDO didnt understand its changing place in darts. Both sides have a place in the sport witn the BDO being a proving ground before moving on to the PDC. Or for players falling off the tour to rebuild confidence!!
Olly Crofts influence on darts should never be underestimated (PCD is here because of his impact on darts - 100%). But he was in no position to criticise how other organisations are run. He created something great, then through sheer arrogance, ruined it. Its a real shame :( Im also sure that vote would never have been held on the PDCs takeover if Croft thought (or feared) there was a one percent chance he would loose (less than that even - 0.00000000001 percent)
The Biggest BDO ever made. Look at the state of County Darts now. Players pay a fortune to represent them. It’s good to see the ADC system is growing in popularity. Hopefully players will prioritise them over playing County darts in the next few years.

Reminds me of rugby both codes need to work closer together im a rugby league fan and we see plenty of clubs at amateur level in Yorkshire who could merge and play both codes to a higher level meaning England can win trophies in future
Croft should of sold up when he had a chance he was offered one million pounds with the organisation he was too stubborn but I do think the wdf players should be in the grand slam
Croft was instrumental in the boom of darts in the 80s, he formed the BDO in the 70s and created an opportunity for ordinary working people to become full time darts players. However, from the last 80s onwards he made poor decision after poor decision which eventually lead to the end of the BDO. He did incredible things for the sport at the beginning but unfortunately he was very very very stubborn and didn’t move the BDO in the direction it needed.

In South Africa we have a short man, big ego, that believes he is Mr Darts. Our national organization is merely there to have free trips for themselves and their cronies to international events. They offer the players 1 weeknlong tournament a year where you have to fork out lots of money just to win a medal. And they supposed to grow darts. Lol...bunch of clowns out for self enrichment.

adams hated the pdc, he probably had numerous chances to move but he was a big fish in a small pond so maybe thats why he didnt

And Martin Adams & Bobby George & Tony Green were complete embarrassments as darts players for not joining the PDC.
