    75 year old with arthritis, retired military. Shot 45ACP for years, had Sig M11-A1 9mm as my carry after the 45's. Age however takes its toll on us all. This Ruger is amazing for my use now. Easy slide manipulation and almost zero muzzle rise. I now own three of these. One for my EDC and one for my wifes EDC and one for my granddaughter who is learning to shoot. Have had zero problems with these pistols and highly recommend them. My EDC ammo is Underwood Xtreme Defender 380 Auto 68 gr 1300 fps. my target loads are Blazer Brass. Have run over 500 rounds in each of these with zero problems. Thank You Ruger from my wife!

    Thank you for being so thorough in your testing. Most people would have quit after the first Armscor dusaster. Instead you continued with good anmo, showing that the gun ran fine. Then you even put more Armscor ammo to showed that it failed again. Great job!
    I am looking forward to getting a Ruger Security 380.

      Same here. Can't blame the firearm for ammo that doesn't detonate with a good primer strike.

      Has anybody shot the range dynamics ammo? I bought 1000 rounds of it online at a great price because I’ve always liked the company and never had an issues. Then a few days later I read 2 reviews on another site with people having feeding issues with their Ruger security 380’s only with that ammo. I just picked up my ruger but haven’t had a chance to make it to the range yet

    I bought my first Ruger, a Mark I Target, in late 1968 for $79.99 and kept it for 30+ years. When a survivalist offered me $225.00 for it, that Ruger found a new home. Excellent gun! I love all things Ruger and the Security 380 is on my get list! Excellent video.

    My friend bought the 380 Ruger Security for $313 taxes and background check. He is a retired law enforcement official and he loves this weapon. We go to the range a lot. We order our ammo from Ammunition Depot and we always try to buy CCI for the range.And for defense ammo Hornaday Critical defense.

    The local farm store had a holiday special on ammunition, including Armscore. I bought a brick of .22lr...never again. At least 1 in 8 misfires and most would not fire on second strike. I gave some away and just used the rest in my old single shot. Thanks for sharing this video.

    I recently purchased this firearm and went to the range, without a cleaning first.
    Hornaday Critical defense, many failures to feed.
    Went home and gave it a good cleaning.
    It cycled the same ammo flawlessly.
    Everything else I have flawlessly.
    Great little gun. Love it.

      My wife's new Security .380 refused to chamber hollow-point ammo. The feed ramp seemed to be covered with thick black paint. I removed all that and it seems to be working OK now when manually cycling it, but I haven't had a chance to take it back to the range yet.

    I love this gun. I brought it to the range with me again this morning along with a couple more expensive 9mm pistols, but I enjoyed this one the most. I never intended to use it for carry, but I like so much that I'm gonna purchase an IWB holster for it and give it a go. It's such a great pistol for the price. 380 ACP is more expensive than 9mm but I have found pretty decent deals on ammoseek if you buy in bulk.
    Side note, I have thousands of rounds of Armscor 22LR (sadly) and it's pretty dirty, crappy stuff. These days I use it only in a Rossi lever gun since it will feed literally anything and if it fails to fire I just cycle it right out.

    I just bought a Security 380 for my wife. We both have lcp2s for pocket carry but they are not fun to shoot especially for her. I want her to have some fun on the range not the frustration. We will be avoiding the armscor debacle😅. You handled it all great and I understand the frustration. My edc street carry is a Glock 20 conversion barrel to 40 S&W … weird I know but her and I can take fuller sized guns and really run em and have fun. We still will practice with the LCP2s too. This Ruger hopefully will build her confidence plus it’s a great carry option in it’s self. Thanks for all the information great video!

    I tried to buy this gun for my wife but the gun store pulled a bait and switch, saying he sold it 15 minutes before we got there. So we ended up getting the S&W 380 EZ instead. Big mistake, she never got used to the grip safety on the EZ. She would either fail to grip it properly or she would be so focused on the grip safety that she would pull her shots downward. Now, most things can be overcome with enough practice. But when it comes to self defense, why chance it. So I ordered the Security-380, which was what I wanted to get in the first place. Great 380, it’s noticeably thicker than the EZ, the barrel is a lil shorter, but you get 2 extra rounds and the price is $120 less. There is no clear winner between these two. The EZ has a slight edge when it comes to racking the slide. But it’s barely noticeable and to be honest, if you can rack one then you can rack the other. It really is that close. I like a lot of things better with the EZ but that doesn’t make it the better gun, not by any means. The Ruger absolutely holds its own against the EZ. My wife has never owned anything other than S&W, until now. She really wanted the EZ to be the better of the two. But she chose the Ruger over the EZ. Her exact words were, “I have to think about what I’m doing with the EZ, but with the Ruger I don’t have to think about it, I just pull the trigger and it works”.

    I've also had issues with Armscor before. It definitely wasn't the gun as the strikes in the primers were absolutely deep enough. I read below where a guy said it was probably gun related, for goodness sakes, watch the video again. The strike on the round he held close to the camera was clearly visibly deep!

    I recently purchased a Security .380 from Academy Sports (ours gives a 10% military discount, so it was only $315, out the door). I want my Granddaughter to try it because she has some mild RA going on in her hands, so hopefully she'll be able to work the slide. Took it straight out of the box and shot it. I was running S&B ball through it, which I am a big fan of, by the way. I had a few FTF issues with it, but again, it was the first 100 rds and right out of the box, so maybe after a good clean/lube job, and another 100 or so, it'll do better. I'm a big Ruger fan, and my little LCP II eats everything I feed it. Also, I noticed when I was loading the 15 round mag, the spacer (that's what I call it) at the bottom slid up the mag on me. Was wondering if you, or anyone else has had that happen. Maybe I'll just epoxy it to the bottom because it shouldn't move anyway.😄

    • @Spidermonkey2a
      @Spidermonkey2a  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Great choice for her to try. Yes there's been a few that I've talked to that had that issue with the spacer. It's annoying for sure

    I bought one before I saw your video. Haven't got the power yet. Things are a little tight now. I got a box of ammunition which you could do if we do on PPU ammo. It's pretty reasonable around for a box of 50 hollow points before I got it from when you check that out. That's all I got to say about that. Y'all have a good day

  • @RickWDonovan
    @RickWDonovan 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I am embarrassed, WOW. The primer's must have been bad, Thank You for the video, I will check in with my wife's range experience after the .380 arrives in a day or two. She tried the CZ 75B, too cumbersome for her to hold but she liked the way it shot. So we went with CZ 75 D PCR compact, she liked the way it shot also but still too large for her hands. Next, we purchased a Glock G43 X MOS and she fired one round and was afraid it was going to blow up in her hands 🙄. We decided to try the .380 caliber and she liked the two-tone Berretta 80X Cheetah in the fancy box (good grief) and really likes shooting it but has a bit of trouble racking it. I decided to get a Ruger Mark IV Target (.22 cal.) in stainless (the Mark series has always been one of my favorites to shoot and cheaply) to boost her confidence and just have some fun while developing her skill set. So, we are hoping the lite rack and lighter recoil of the Ruger Security 380 fills the bill before we need to open a gun store.

    I thought I was done buying guns but as I age (I am 80) this month). I feel the need to transition to an easier slide racking pistol. As a result, I purchased the Ruger Security .380 and am quite pleased with it. I have the LCP in .380 and a Bersa, both of which require.me and the wife to struggle with slide manipulation. I practice with reloaded 95gn powder coated r/n bullets and carry with white box r/n fmj and have no failures to feed or eject.. Of course I have 9mm, .40 ,.22lr and .45 cal weapons but this pistol has become my favorite in the CCW mode.

    I just watched and commented on your previous Ruger Security-380 video, explaining why I'm looking into this pistol. From this video I get the sense that the Security-380 is a good shooter, if I need to go with this caliber. (But I'm hoping to be able to stay with my micro9 for some time to come.) Another takeaway from this video: AAA = Avoid Armscor Ammo.

    Every single one of my handguns I've had at least two light primer strikes, I was shooting some sailor and billet 10 mm performance center 2.0 and we had one round, that have a light primer strike 3 and fired on the 4th, it usually is almost 100% of the time will fire the second time sometimes it takes 3-4-5

    Thank you for the review. Now I know what ammo to never get. I understand with training ammo, one out of 50 or 100 being a dud, I can live with that, not at the rate this ammo failed. You have saved me money, for that I thank you.

  • @kawadude
    @kawadude หลายเดือนก่อน

    Good review. My security 380 will not run Fiocchi ftx hollow points. Will not feed all the way into breech. Stops right at the point where the barrel end flips up. Hitting the back of gun does nothing to help. Sent to Ruger, got it back and will not run the FTX ammo. Runs Federal and PMC fmj with zero problems (30 rounds each). Had 2 light primer strikes with ftx, reloaded and they fired. Any help with ammo selection would be appreciated. Armscor ammo I have bought - 22 TMC 4 overcharged out of 500, had to ramrod cases out of barrel, no failures. Dangerous? 22 magnum 400 rounds, less than 14 cents apiece almost 7 years ago, zero failures (Keltec PMR). 22 lr 500 rounds 5 under loaded and would not eject, sounded like a firecracker. Not bad for cheap 22 lr. S&W Victory. Fiocchi 22lr 500 rounds zero failures.
    Conclusion - Is it the ammo or the gun or both? In my case (380) it is the gun. Ran same ammo in 2 other guns with no problems.

      Yeah that sounds more like a gun issue I'd have to agree with you there. This one was definitely an ammo issue as I've had terrible luck with Armscor before in 300blk especially.

    I have found that some ammo will NOT run nicely in some guns; I believe that some guns just don't like certain ammo and you may find that same crappy ammo will run just fine in another gun... Not necessarily that the gun is bad but you just gotta find ammo that it likes to eat....
    I absolutely LUV my Ruger Security 380...

    Thank you for sharing, and you know I've heard with the "flinching" as long as were hitting then it's not to much to stress over. I just recently did this on a video and "flinched" as i was expecting the recoil and or noise. Tactical Hyve has a great video on this and says if you're hitting then not to worry to much....but i want to work on my recoil anticipation but then again we as humans get ready for the recoil and we should compensate for that a little by pushing. Sorry for your .380 issue with Armscor.

    I was going to buy one but i heard the magazines are for a 9mm , they just made a block spacer put inside the mag to take up the excess space because the 380 is shorter . One guy showed in a video that the inside of the mags pop out because that block spacer in the mags are not right . I dont know this 100% just saying what i have seen on a few other videos and people talking . A few other people said they was having the same problem with the mags . It bugs me that Ruger could not make it its own magazine instead of cobbling one up thats for 9mm . I just bougt a Ruger LCP MAX a few months ago love it , but was going to buy a Security 380 soon but now im not going to . I think i will buy another LCP Max and a LCP II 22 .

    Will not buy or shoot Armscor ammo, Armscor also owns Rock Island Armory and won't buy their firearms either. In 2015 there was reported safety issue with their ammo from .22 short to 5.56 also affected was 30 carbine, 12 gauge and 20 gauge slugs. If a round fails to fire you should keep the firearm pointed down range and wait thirty seconds before ejecting the round incase of a delay fire.
