I love it too! It's so refreshing since One Piece is SUCH a RICH and deep series that a lot of people overlook and it's so satisfying seeing people who really get it
Indeed. People forget that One Piece isn’t entirely a pure action series. A world dense in lore and philosophy, the story needs to be careful weaved so that it all makes sense. It really irks me when we get to the chapters where we’re getting valuable info and background and people start crying and yelling “filler” and will skip them. I’ve met people that have skipped all of Skypiea just to get to the arcs with the big fights. This is such a integral arc for the entirety of One Piece that it always impresses me when Oda finds a way to tie in stuff back to this arc.
@@rpimentel87 I would argue it isn’t an action manga. There’s good action, but rarely is that the center stage. If it wasn’t Shonen I think it’ would actually have far less fights, really the fights are just narrative vehicles vs something like dbz ( which is amazing in its own right) that the fight and action scenes are the meat and potatoes.
Another small detail about Blackbeard I love, is when he first meets Luffy, he doesn't believe that Luffy has a 30 million bounty. At first you think it is because he doesn't believe Luffy is intimidating enough (like Bellamy and his crew). But later it seems like Blackbeard actually expected Luffy's bounty to be higher than 30 million.
yup, she can make videos at the mid arc reveals so she can share her theories before the arc closes, the fan theories are the best part, specially because Oda usually fools everyone
I feel like she'll need more than one video for Fish-Man Island. Anybody probably would, though I think that Merph in particular is going to have a lot to say.
When it comes to Zoro, there is almost a fan-theory that he has died before in One Piece, multiple times, but when he died he was told to "Walk towards the light."... He got lost and came back to life.
How? The only thing it has is the writing of Oden and they could of been moved to any island in the series. Everything important in the saga happens off of Skypiea.
@@derekricaurte3837 I know that. I was saying that people still say Oda doesn't kill people but post ts he has killed way more people and no seems to care or they forget.
Robin brings up how casually the language on the Poneglyphs is used in the lost city of Shandora and I don't know why this isn't discussed more in the community !!
I love that Oda drops this here. And then in the next saga he confirms the existence of an ancient kingdom which is long lost now. Making it so satisfying to read and comprehend that Shandora was part of the ancient kingdom. The level of trust this man has on his storytelling is awe-inspiring.
@@inarticulatevoid He knows we're going to collect all the hints and vehemently guess what they mean, and he's not interested in rewriting his finale because of fandom guessing it early.
I think it's more of a Little garden situation. They were left in the past, never knew what was going on in the rest of the ocean and the world beneath.
Si no viste todos los lazos, paralelismos, y hasta presagios de cosas que van a pasar después, el problema está de tu lado Sorry, got warm coffee, dude said F I L L E R but in Spanish, probably to play smartass "gringos can't understand me", yet he replied to a comment in English on a video in English, which just makes it stupid
Yeah, unlike daniel. Sometimes it makes me wonder whether he knows what he is talking about. He was talking about the bellamy fight was pointless and was forced into the story just for sake of showing a fight scene. Like bruh.
"I don't know what to do with it" Nobody knows, but Oda said that the entire reason he wanted to write skypea is for that panel, so we keep it in a special place in our memory because Oda is Oda, king of foreshadowing
The climax of Skypeia is definitely one of my favorites for sure, even if the arc itself is more in the middle of the pack for me. But Luffy ringing the bell while defeating Enel in one shot and his shadow cast on the clouds were just perfection after the build up of Cricket, Wyper, and the Noland/Calgara flash back.
I think skypea was slow for people because it was a lot of very subtle foreshadowing and exposition, but I almost guarantee it will be one of the best arcs on rewatch after the end of the series. Still. Even a middle of the pack arc in OP, is a top arc in almost any other form of media. Oda the goat.
Oda said that if Enel was a pirate on the blue sea his bounty would have been around 500 million which is a testament to his strenght and also his luck to have met the only rubber person in the world
I remember Enel mentioning that he uses his electricity for his mantra to reach everyone...nontheless, practically seen he has mastered his observation haki unlike anyone else
I feel like Skypiea's party is easily one of the most heartwarming and iconic in the series, I love how it brings together the two factions that were previously at odds with each other. Also the imagery with the lighting from the giant campfire (which Luffy and Usopp were really excited about earlier on) and the dancing silhouettes and even the wolves. It just looked so fun, man. I wish I were there you know?
Even from my first time into One Piece (that was around 8 years ago) this scene is one of my all time favorite in this story. Oda loves this scene (and even draw whole arc because of it) and I can't disagree with him. This is just the best.
“This scene happened, I don’t know what to do with it” In a One piece magazine, Oda revealed this is his Third favorite panel in the series. In fact, he made the entire Skypiea arc so that he could draw this specific scene.
One of the moment that makes my re-read of Skypeia significant is when they reach the shore at the Angel Beach, and Robin said something like “I don’t know landing on a new island can be so exciting…”
THIS. This is one of those small little pockets of insight we get from Robin that makes me adore her character even more. It's like this is where it clicks for her that the crew is special somewhat
@@FuckTH-camAndGoogle lmao you okay bro? I mean if you're going to be a troll at least make it make sense... You suck at it. Native Americans definitely do have tribe-specific dances
@@chubbyalonso3687 His top three are( can't recall the order, sorry) the opening of Wano, the campfire in Skypiea and Robin wiping the goo from Sabody on Usopp's shorts.
I'm also starting to wonder who nami's real parents are. We only know that she was found in a warzone with marines vs pirates on an island called oykot - tokyo backwards.
Skypia is where I realize that One piece world know no limits. I love the idea of the islands on the sky and sky sea. I honestly don't get the people who doesn't like this arc or see it as basically a filler (if any arc has close to a filler its Long Ring Long Land arc). Its first time when we encounter haki, though its called mantra here and we found out that the poneglyphs and One piece are tide together and that answers Robin is looking for are part of one piece.
the first time we encounter haki is in the first chapter when Shank wush away the sea monster. and arguably, the second time we encounter haki when Zorro fight vs the steel guy in Alabasta. zorro feel all the things around him can breath
@@arsyam780 Sure, you can count those two, but its in Skypia when concept of haki/mantra are really introduced, up to this point we had no idea how Shanks manage to scared of the monster (actually, we only get the idea of what happend after Amzon Lily when concept of conqueror haki is introduced)
Ok, a lot of people probably told you this, but I'll say it again: After the timeskip, the arcs will drastically be longer with tons of informations dropped. I can only advise you to take your time, take a lot of notes and divide your review in multiple parts if need be.
Would recommend having someone you trust or people on the discord provide advice on how to split up the reading given your general weekly chapter schedule. Though spoiler but the pages in the future get much more dense with information as the story goes forward.
I think most people will agree with you on the lack of death and the games bring meh. I don't think any singular death was nearly as bad as Pell but I wish some of those deaths weren't fake outs lol.
Pell's death was very specifically taken out because it was written during the same time near 9/11 happened so they omitted it. Oda not relying on the death of his main characters just shows confidence in his own writing that he doesn't need something so extreme like removing a likeable character to make you get emotional
@@Feeble_cursed_one i get that argument a lot but still its also true to say he didnt had the balls to do it at the time and thats valid critisism too bc pell at least so far hasnt justifiyed being still alive. He furfilled his purpose in the story at least so far
agreed. the old man from skypeia is a good example of a character that oda could have just killed off and it would have been better imo. making fake outs just really makes it kinda like "the boy who cried wolf" where the whole time you're thinking "did he die tho"
There was absolutely zero reason to let Pagaya survive. There’s nothing he could do in the narrative that couldn’t be fulfilled by another Skypiean. Some of Wiper’s crew also should’ve died. I think Oda just loves his characters too much. Unless Oda really thinks a character needs to stay dead (a la Ace), they’re likely not to stay dead.
Truly what speaks the highest volumes for one piece that even the "weaker" arcs and sagas are THIS good. They don't quite live up to the very top of one piece but even the arcs people "hate" they enjoy watching/reading. That hate only comes from their own passion for the series and impossible expectations they place on the series. One piece at it's worse is still better than most fiction at it's best
Skypiea was the first Arc that I owned other than East blue, so I've read it at least 7 or 8 times, and for that it has a special place in my heart. The ringing of the Bell, everytime without fail even as I am just thinking about it to write this, gives me chills, it is just so powerful and emotionally charged by the flashback and by their promise to Cricket. Such a powrful scene without a doubt. The Flashback of Mont Blanc Noland and Kalgara is the main dish of this Arc. It is such a tragic and somewhat romantic story. Noland trying to do the right thing to save Kalgara and his people, his daughter at that too, but inadvertently angering them by unknowingly disrespecting their beliefs and customs. Destroying their sacred forest to save the people lives even tho it almost cost Noland and his crew the friendships they had formed, Kalgara rushing to the shore to see Noland off and inviting them again. Very strong parallels to Vivi and our crew. Such a beautiful friendship is formed between these two men throught hardship and misunderstanding. And then the island disappearance. Kalgara doing all he can in his power to ring the bell to guide Noland back to him, Noland being executed and his final thoughts are for his Friend and his well-being. The flashback coming to an end with such a bitter ending, just hurts me so much. I held back tears just writting and thinking about this flashback. Skypiea is by far in my top 10 arcs, I'd even say top 5. It is just so damn well written.
Enel : I'm strong. Like, really strong. How can you say that I'm not? Reason : Enel's lightning strikes kill no one. Oda : Sipping his tea somewhere. Bear with it.
I must say that I have been a little disappointed with the (lack of) initial thoughts on Blackbeard by multiple people who have reviewed OP. Of course, it does make sense, because some of his scenes might not seem particularly interesting at first and only shine on reread, but I still feel like one of my favourites is normally done dirty lol. Which is why Merph's re-reviewing of early OP is such a delight for me!
Yeah I love his intro, it was always epic to me since I love me some pirate lore. When they say its Blackbeard I was like I must not underestimate this man
Thats the problem, Black Beards introduction only hits different on reread hahaha so if theyre reading through 1P for the first time then it wont feel special to reviewers
If you notice Robin closely she never say the names of the crewmembers..she calls them like cook,doctor,captain....like that..she will use their names to call them only after enies lobby
@@maheshwarank1502 How can someone notice that she changes the way she refers to them BEFORE she actually does? He notices later, after Enies Lobbie obviously

I never got why people did not like Skypiea even back in the day (2004 to be exact). It is not among my favourite arcs but it always was an easy 8/10 for me.
It is sandwiched between two great Sagas of Alabasta and Water 7, most arcs with bad reputation only have that reputation because they're sandwiched between two greater arcs.
@@MrGhostTheBigRoast I've seen people say skypiea is the worst arc of one piece. "A pointless side story which is nothing but padding to an already mammoth series. Nothing of significance happens here." Some of which I get if you have small attention span, because Skypiea becomes a lot more relevant in the future for more speculation and how it can tie into the end of the series. It was definitely a long one. But it has so much lore. Building of culture, foreshadowing for future events, themes at play are like brand "One piece", while I lovd the fast pace high stakes action series one piece has become, but I LOVE the adventure aspect of it. Which is why Skypiea is a easy 9/10 for me.
Because people think that because it doesn't feature shichibukais/marines/world government, it's kind of a filler. In reality it's a huge lore dump and I love it for that !
I’m definitely not the first to say this, but Spypeia really is like a microcosm of the entire story of One Piece. Everything seems fine on the surface, but in reality Enel (Celestial Dragons) is abusing their power and oppressing the people. Luffy is the natural enemy of the antagonist because he’s rubber (pirate with D.) and he’s searching for the golden bell (the One Piece) which is hidden in Upper Yard (Raftel). Luffy even gets the people to rise up and revolt with him, and learns about the Void Century through the poneglyphs.
Enjoy the scene. It’s such a fun moment/crew interaction that plays with their dynamics along with them having a good time. And the use of it at the end of the arc to signify that the citizens can enjoy it as much as the crew makes it one of the more heartwarming end of arc party scenes.
The saga perfectly encapsulates the inherited will (Kalgara/Wyper, Cricket/Norland), the passing of the ages (Shandora to now) and people's dreams theme in One Piece , ie. Dragons quote in Loguetown.
I weirdly thought that the skypiea saga felt most like a grand pirate adventure compare to most of the arc. For the simple fact of telling the classic tale of the search for El Dorado but the most one piece way. The fact that this adventure took place in the sky and not at sea adds to it even more.
It's not that simple. Volts + resistance generates heat. A high enough voltage won't electrocute you, but it will burn you. Millions of volts is enough to ignite the air around the charge, which is where the real danger comes from.
Current, time, net charge, there's a few perspectives to consider. Ohms law tightly relates current and voltage so what you say is a bit of an over simplification but ya
@Hi I'm Swiss Technically, even if voltage is applied, and if current doesn't pass, nothing will happen. However, the magnitude of Eneru's voltage can ionize the air itself making it conductive and hence, current can flow. So inspite of the high resistance, the current can pass through if a high enough voltage is applied, to force the ions and electrons to move inside the material, thus causing the current. FYI: @HSuper Lee ohms + resistance doesn't create heat if the resistance is high enough to lower the current to be very small. The heat relation is Q = I^2 R or Q = V^2 / R. So, even though voltage is more, if resistance is high enough, heat will be less. Meaning unless higher current passes, higher heat won't be generated. Hence, voltage+resistance doesn't always give heat Current+ resistance will definitely gives heat. However, if voltage is very high ( the million volts of eneru), then the voltage over powers the resistance to cause current inside the object, and that flowing current will cause immense heat as that much voltage can even ionize the air molecules making it conductive and pass electric current.
I'm convinced now that re-reading One Piece transforms your enjoyment of the show in a very special way. Hunting down the information Oda may or may not have put there intentionally is a very exciting adventure on itself Some of your thoughts sounded very interesting
Skypiea didn't seem the greatest to me at first . But re reading/watching it makes the experience so much better. This is the most adventurous we get in the story starting from jaya. Like the connecting the maps, finding treasure. This arc also teaches us to dream. I can go on and on . It's really beautiful
An interesting point on Skypeia being an arc without pirates: this is the one arc where the Straw Hats are the most pirate-like in their own actions and objectives. "Get the treasure and get out." I agree with the rest of the critique, it does feel long for its purpose and it is easily overshadowed on either side, it feels so disconnected from the rest of the world, particularly in the consequences of the events, but that one point made me take a step back and go "wait a minute tho..." Looking forward to the first steps into the New World.
Yup - when i read it first, i.e., after watching anime and on re-read of manga - i just went, 'What is this arc hiding?' But assuming you are a fellow manga reader im gonna leave it at that.
I second that. for being a pirate story, one piece usually don't really feel like a pirate adventure. but this arc certainly set the crew to be, well, pirates.
Since you asked, it's pronounced like poh-neh-glif. Also, any chance you could bully hellofutureme into reading one piece too? I would love if the og avatar gang all got into this story as well
Skypiea is still my favorite arc, mostly because of nostalgia. I think the childlike wonder and amazement I felt when they discovered that the sky island was real, and the amazing climax of Luffy hitting the bell at then end makes me cry every time I read it. I don't think I would view it as highly if I had started One Piece now as an adult, but I still think it's a fantastic arc. I think it really is one of the best worldbuilding arcs, and explorations is one of the elements of One Piece that i love the most, which is this arc's strongest point in my opinion. The entire story of this saga is about exploration, which I just love. Finding out that the knock-up stream can be used to go into the sky, realizing that part of Jaya was knocked up by it, finding the golden city, and finally finding and ringing the bell- it just leaves me speechless honestly. I love this arc so much.
In that single scene: - Luffy frees himself from gold's bindings - Luffy frees Skypiea from Enel's control - Luffy defeats Enel - Luffy rings the bell, making Cricket realise the legend is real - Luffy falling projects his shadown on the ground, thus resolving the mystery at the start of the arc about those strange shadows casting on the clouds - ??? Spoiler stuff - ??? (There's probably something else)
Blackbeard has been a very slow build in the series since the beginning. He was first mentioned on Drum Island (Chopper’s Ice Island) as the one that sacked it and kicked out Wapol. It is something that a lot of fans forget about.
New World next week, buckle up amiga. As for Skypeia, it's one I appreciate more over time especially with how much theory fuel it is lol. And just the culture and meaning and the one of the MANLIEST FLASHBACKS IN THE SERIES
Your One Piece videos are giving me such nostalgia for my old favorite series. And the love for Nami in here is giving me life! She was (and still is) my favorite since Arlong Park and I remember pointing out so many of the things you've touched on back in the day because it felt like no one else noticed them. She's such an amazing and under-appreciated character for how complex and strong she really is. Going on this journey with you is really fun and looking forward to Fridays even more these days. :)
Skypeia always seemed like a distraction. Almost like a really good filler. But it may just turn out to be the most important arc in One Piece when everything comes together
How so? Could you elaborate without being explicit about spoilers (I've read through the whole series at least twice - except for Wano since it hasn't end yet - and I don't really know why you say it may be the most important part in the end)
@@tximinoman wano has been hinting a lot at it being important, as well as the Roger being there thing. I can say as much as this, not watching skypeia will probably end with you missing some huge key points for later in the story, especially regarding the history of the world.

i love how one piece is being treated where it deserves , alongside the most amazing fantasy stories , there r very few mangas who deserve to be put this high
Narrative wise it is the halfway point. Half the Grandline all the rising buildup. Now we are at the payoff. It's long cus oda writes a lot but not much has happened. Fishman Island is really part of the first half but let's just place it dead center both sides just like it is. Wev got dressrosa which is basically alabasta. Wev got whole cake which let's say that's wate 7 Wano which we can say is marine Ford 3 majorish sagas on each side and that's not counting theirs east blue skypia thrillwrbark and other smaller arcs not included in those grand sagas. Length wise we are not half. Story wise after wano theirs probably just end game stuff. Half the story is done. Half the words and length are not but that's just oda
Tbf, if Enel succeed he would've dropped an island out of the sky from 10,000ms up high, with the Ark Maxim he basically has ancient weapon capabilities.
Plus to the point with no deaths through Enels Power, if I remember corret, the ones getting hit were Zoro, Sanji, Usopp, Robin, Viper and Gan Fort. SOME SPOILER AHEAD: Zoro probably has a strong body due to his possible relation with Shimotsuki and Ryuma. Sanji as Queen said is maybe modified but kept his emotions. Viper has a strong blody due to being a descendant of Kalgara. Gan Fort was the previous "God" so we could assume he has a strong body as well. Robin so far I am unsure until we may figure out who her father is, her Mother was in contact with the Revolutionaries, so who knows. Usopp is like a Joker at this point, he can be crushed, but he is our God, and he is the son of Yasopp. So yeah, basically Enel can kill Normal people without problem I think, just the people he encountered weren't normal.

When you said Nami regressed to her survival mode it was on point, and to add to that, the interesting detail of what gave her that courage back, which was when Luffy gave his Straw Hat to her again, was a little nice nod to how Luffy reminds her of her freedom and how he is her emotional anchor. Another cool thing is that Nami is the only one who can deflect Enel's attacks, which made her way more impressive. Keep up the good work!
You know with the "fake-out deaths", I see it as follows: I'm usually really annoyed when the protagonists are the ones in movies/books/series surviving literally everything while everyone around them dies. One Piece is different as in: most people survive most things, but when someone dies, the death usually is very impactful.
keeping in mind the target audience (teens and under) also probably helps to explain why there arent as many deaths as there should be. while i dont think kids are as frail and should be sheltered from stuff like death as much as some people may think, based on experience and observation, publishers seem to disagree, lol. though, like you mentioned, maybe this does work in favour for one piece and other stories like it, since when the death _does_ happen, it strikes even harder.
Please take you time!!! I love love the fact that your doing this reread and absolutely absorbing everything. OP is meant to take you on a journey the 2nd time is so memorable.
The dance with Wolf's were them just having fun. The importance of partying with friends and how it could bring people together. The emotion is much more flushed in the anime in my opinion also Robin getting a feeling of being in a family.
My fav little moment in this saga is when the crew is on Cricket's home, Nami told Chopper to dig for treasure, only for him to get yelled at by Nami "Shut Up Chopper! What are you DOING!?"
Save that pic of the guys dancing around the fire, at 16:37. As u said this saga has a huge dump of information, n for shadowing. Also save a picture of the original natives the Shandorians n their history Enel tanks about their origins n why do they have wings n live on a island on the sea. To this day over 1k chapters in we still go back n recheck old chapters n Skypia is one of the must referenced.
As a diehard fan... When any reactor gets up to the trial part of Skypiea I feel immense dread lol. I also did not like that part very much. This arc has huge ups but a few downs which is why a lot of people aren't a huge fan of it. BUT for some people it's their favourite. It's pretty interesting how an arc can be a least favourite some people while being THE favourite for others. Luffy ringing the bell + the Kalgara/Noland Flashback are so good that they can make people forget the lesser parts of the arc, to the point of it being a favourite arc. Skypia isn't my favourite but it has a special place in my heart for sure
Here's how I reasoned out people surviving Enel's lightning: It's not that he was ineffective, it was that the targets' will to persevere was that strong.
BLOODY HELL MERPHY! You haven’t even caught up and you’re spoiling yourself by being too good at your job 😭😭 you’re literally picking up on everything! You ARE the hero the One Piece community needed!
16:40 it’s funny how you bring up that panel. That’s one of Oda’s favorite scenes that he’s ever drawn. And scrawling that scene was his inspiration for the entire arc.
merphy ragging on oda for not killing characters despite knowing how the summit war played out is like watching someone who just survived a bear attack walk into the bear's cave with a stick
Yeah but the body is the resistor, how many Ohm is a human body? Apperrendly between 10000 and a 1000 Ohm. Let's say 5000 Ohm then I=20000V/5000Ohm= 4A. That is enough current to kill at least 20 people.
@@JAlanne assumes the resistance of the average human body applies to the average human one piece body. Again, no one died (including the old man), therefore you should be drawing your information from what happened and not what would have happened irl. Very high voltage (and DC, not AC, just fyi) with very low current. 4A DC can't kill you, 4A AC and you stand no chance.
You are correct on part one However, If we follow your way of thinking, a direct lighting strike would kill any human. Either, enel didn't use lighting or the physiology of the people he targeted was so different from humans, they could survive a lighting strike without serious concequence. Which mean, somehow, enel isn't aware of this? But he lives there and through mantra knows everything on skypia... and he has done this routinly succefully (implied), or he is just unreliable? But that wouldn't make sense either, or he must have forced the people to tell lies to visiting strangers on skypia OR this is a plot hole and Oda doesn't like to kill characters unless he really needs to/flashback. Cfr Pell is a bird that survived a nuke to the face.
Glad you enjoyed the reread! I think it’s a great idea to look back over the story’s progression to better appreciate how well of a job Oda’s done telling his story. Often times, people (myself included) will burn through the series to the latest chapters and then go back through everything, but I think doing so while still reading the series will have a greater effect as you move forward and continue to discover new things to be excited about! Thank you for reviewing and enjoying the series as much as you do!
Skypeia is one of the most important arcs in the series. It adds so much to the overall story of One Piece and it's history and lore. Definitely something to keep in mind throughout the series and I have a feeling it will play a huge role in the end of the series. Still waiting for Enel's return
I love your videos. It’s my first time actually watching the series as intended without skipping or hyper focused on the action. I love your analysis it’s just perfect!
I feel you on Enel's power. It's like Ussop's 4 ton hammer, from an outside perspective It's like "yeah anyone hit with that is dead" but Ussop knows it won't really kill anyone.
I'm loving your re-reviews and reads because it's reminding me of things that absolutely have significance later on. 16:31 "This scene happened... I genuinely don't know what to do with it." And yet... it has significance.
I finally understand why merph wanted to do the re-read now. Merph did not want to wait for Oda to put the crew back together so she thought what the heck, Ï'll just go back to when they were happy"haha
Merphy! It makes me SO happy that you love One Piece so much. I've been a fan of it for YEARS (Vivi is literally my profile picture) and was hoping that some fantasy booktubers would give it some attention. It's consumed your life just as it has mine! I am so excited for the future of your journey!!!
It's a tough line to walk, between realistic consequences of the high stakes, and remaining a shonen manga. I wouldn't be surprised if Shonen Jump's rules contained a hard limit of character deaths per story
The island Usopp was paw pawed to was Boin Island in a giant man-eating flower island. Also love the fact that Skypiea is really just the crew exploring the world and having an adventure. I think this is the most adventure-y saga ever.
Even with all its problems, Skypea is still one of my favorite arcs with all the themes, the overwhelming sense of adventure, the comedy, and Eneru as a villian all blends into an extremely fun arc for me to come back to very often
Enel's "real" power is definitely an area of debate among the fandom - but not in the way that you might think. In fact, most people seem to agree that he wouldn't really be that big of a threat to the pirates of the New World. That's because he is lacking one essential thing: Armament Haki. It's the great equaliser for logia-type Devil Fruits, after all - in the New World, most people would suddenly be able to touch and wound Enel. And we see in this arc that that's something he isn't prepared for in the slightest. His lightning would still be dangerous, but he would lose his biggest advantage, and it doesn't seem like he has much of a counter for that glaring weakness.
i mean, he would still have advanced observation haki that is on par if not superior to katakuri, which i think would make him decently strong if a paramecia user with future-sight can be big mom's second in command. also he figured that out alone isolated from the world, i expect that having challenges put in his way would only make him stronger if he could overcome them
I just wanna say, I really love your videos. I love your predictions and seeing you dissect One Piece. It's so awesome seeing a new member of the fandom being so excited about this wonderful story we all love!

Where have you been all this time ?
Man, these booktubers talking about narrative and character development instead of powerscaling.
I love it.
The way she explains why East Blue is GREAT when even One Piece fans says it's a boring start to the series it's what made me stuck around
crazy
@@rpimentel87 I would argue it isn’t an action manga. There’s good action, but rarely is that the center stage. If it wasn’t Shonen I think it’ would actually have far less fights, really the fights are just narrative vehicles vs something like dbz ( which is amazing in its own right) that the fight and action scenes are the meat and potatoes.
Merphy noticing that detail about Sanji is so satisfying. I love when someone notice minor details when re-reading One Piece
And the bonfire scene too! She doesn’t know what to do with it, but Manga Readers understand.
She pointed out the bonfire dance, thats Katakuri level observation Haki
Yeah. I've been following this series for 7 years now and even I don't notice such minute details like she does.
She will definitely do a review on her re-review. She missed something between Sanji and Zoro chatting, few arcs prior to Skypiea.
@@Corredor1230 The bonfire scene only became relevant less than 10 chapters ago as well 😂
"This scene happened. And I don't know what to do with it. "
Just happens to be Oda's favorite panel in the entire manga.
3rd Favorite
I had a big smile om my face when that panel appeared.
It's also a scene that people have called back to after recent chapters
Call back to recent chapter ! So good ,
It needs to say twice
* laughs in spoilers*
Don’t rush your reading from now on. If you need more than one video per arc, that’s ok. They get long from here on.
Yeah, we wouldn't be upset if you broke it up I to half's or quarters so you have the time to talk on everything you want to
Especially Dressrosa.
And Wano (but that can be divided by the acts, except for the everlasting act 3).
yup, she can make videos at the mid arc reveals so she can share her theories before the arc closes, the fan theories are the best part, specially because Oda usually fools everyone
Especially dressrosa haha
I feel like she'll need more than one video for Fish-Man Island. Anybody probably would, though I think that Merph in particular is going to have a lot to say.
When it comes to Zoro, there is almost a fan-theory that he has died before in One Piece, multiple times, but when he died he was told to "Walk towards the light."... He got lost and came back to life.
That would be pretty funny.
Im pretty sure that's just Brook.
It’s crazy how Skypeia is so underrated but potentially the most important arc in all of one piece
So you are a man of culture as well
By any chance do you go by zetrain anywhere else? You have the same pfp as someone I used to talk to
Cause the pay off is a slow burn, people like immediate gratification
How? The only thing it has is the writing of Oden and they could of been moved to any island in the series. Everything important in the saga happens off of Skypiea.

The level of trust this man has on his storytelling is awe-inspiring.
is it really ? the people there can t read it, it was lost or someone else made the text for them.
Also that the shandians have wings..
Ironic how skypia has such ties to the entire world/story while being such a self contained saga. Oda is brilliant.

Its first time when we encounter haki, though its called mantra here and we found out that the poneglyphs and One piece are tide together and that answers Robin is looking for are part of one piece.

There was absolutely zero reason to let Pagaya survive. There’s nothing he could do in the narrative that couldn’t be fulfilled by another Skypiean. Some of Wiper’s crew also should’ve died.

Well said
Skypiea was the first Arc that I owned other than East blue, so I've read it at least 7 or 8 times, and for that it has a special place in my heart.
I’m waiting for Enel to come back and just “bang ur dead”
Luffy ringing the bell and declaring that Noland didn't lie make skypiea top 5 arcs to me
I must say that I have been a little disappointed with the (lack of) initial thoughts on Blackbeard by multiple people who have reviewed OP.
Our 1st "God complex" exposure of the series.

Man, I love this series
I weirdly thought that the skypiea saga felt most like a grand pirate adventure compare to most of the arc. For the simple fact of telling the classic tale of the search for El Dorado but the most one piece way. The fact that this adventure took place in the sky and not at sea adds to it even more.
Fun little sidenote: You can brush off millions of volts no problem, as long as there aren't any amps behind it.
It's not that simple. Volts + resistance generates heat. A high enough voltage won't electrocute you, but it will burn you. Millions of volts is enough to ignite the air around the charge, which is where the real danger comes from.
@@HSuper_Lee just use a Vacuum pepeLaugh
Current, time, net charge, there's a few perspectives to consider. Ohms law tightly relates current and voltage so what you say is a bit of an over simplification but ya
Electricians in the chat
@Hi I'm Swiss
Technically, even if voltage is applied, and if current doesn't pass, nothing will happen.
However, the magnitude of Eneru's voltage can ionize the air itself making it conductive and hence, current can flow.
So inspite of the high resistance, the current can pass through if a high enough voltage is applied, to force the ions and electrons to move inside the material, thus causing the current.
FYI: @HSuper Lee
ohms + resistance doesn't create heat if the resistance is high enough to lower the current to be very small.
The heat relation is Q = I^2 R or Q = V^2 / R.
So, even though voltage is more, if resistance is high enough, heat will be less. Meaning unless higher current passes, higher heat won't be generated.
Hence, voltage+resistance doesn't always give heat
Current+ resistance will definitely gives heat.
Hunting down the information Oda may or may not have put there intentionally is a very exciting adventure on itself
Some of your thoughts sounded very interesting
Skypiea didn't seem the greatest to me at first . But re reading/watching it makes the experience so much better.
This is the most adventurous we get in the story starting from jaya. Like the connecting the maps, finding treasure. This arc also teaches us to dream. I can go on and on . It's really beautiful
Skypiea is probably the most rewatch able arc for sure, it's just so enjoyable to get to go back to it
Yep. I love the sense of adventure here because the crew just wants to go here without any attached nations to be saved
An interesting point on Skypeia being an arc without pirates: this is the one arc where the Straw Hats are the most pirate-like in their own actions and objectives. "Get the treasure and get out."
I agree with the rest of the critique, it does feel long for its purpose and it is easily overshadowed on either side, it feels so disconnected from the rest of the world, particularly in the consequences of the events, but that one point made me take a step back and go "wait a minute tho..."
Looking forward to the first steps into the New World.
Yup - when i read it first, i.e., after watching anime and on re-read of manga - i just went, 'What is this arc hiding?' But assuming you are a fellow manga reader im gonna leave it at that.

The ringing of the bell is probably the most thematically dense moment in One Piece thus far. There is so much packed into that one moment.
In that single scene:
- Luffy frees himself from gold's bindings
- Luffy frees Skypiea from Enel's control
- Luffy defeats Enel
- Luffy rings the bell, making Cricket realise the legend is real
- Luffy falling projects his shadown on the ground, thus resolving the mystery at the start of the arc about those strange shadows casting on the clouds
- ??? Spoiler stuff
- ??? (There's probably something else)

Yes. I agree
probably my favorite climax in op overall
16:32 (dance around fire scene) - "This scene happened. Don't know what to do with it, but it exists." - lol, hindsight.
I don't think anyone in the fandom cares about the "villains" this arc aside from Enel. We're usually too busy stanning Wiper.
Everyone loves eminem!
Eh. I still think Luffy's OHKO of Bellamy was his best, & that includes Charlos.
But the priests? Yeah, they're mostly forgettable.
@@IamMeHere2See I'm of the same idea about Bellamy's KO.
The priest were just vehicles to introduce the combat system of Skypie.
People think Gedatsu is funny. And like Robin’s fight given the lack of Robin fights
And I'm over here shipping Wyper and Conis 😂
Blackbeard has been a very slow build in the series since the beginning. He was first mentioned on Drum Island (Chopper’s Ice Island) as the one that sacked it and kicked out Wapol. It is something that a lot of fans forget about.
New World next week, buckle up amiga. As for Skypeia, it's one I appreciate more over time especially with how much theory fuel it is lol. And just the culture and meaning and the one of the MANLIEST FLASHBACKS IN THE SERIES
23:01 I feel you on that one 😆💖
28:33 That is NOT the ancient weapon Pluton that Crocodile was after , it's just a flying ship Enel build
Yes, and given only enel can really use it, it would be a horrible weapon , its just a ship enel build with slaves to use his power to let it fly.
Filler for you. For me Skypiea has is one of the best adventure and magical aspect while reading One piece
@@tximinoman wano has been hinting a lot at it being important, as well as the Roger being there thing. I can say as much as this, not watching skypeia will probably end with you missing some huge key points for later in the story, especially regarding the history of the world.
@@tximinoman Oda probably showed most of his cards for how One Piece would end earlier on (in the Skypeia Saga for example) but as One Piece went on, he added way more. Wano Country is finally looping things around!

@@123rikin the fact that Roger has been to Skypeia, Enel went to the moon from Skypeia, Jaya has connections to how Skype ended up in the sky, etc etc etc.. there's so many ways the story can go because of Skypeia. It's very much underrated i think

"I got through half the series"
Fans in current: Yes, half...
Wev got whole cake which let's say that's wate 7
Wano which we can say is marine Ford
3 majorish sagas on each side and that's not counting theirs east blue skypia thrillwrbark and other smaller arcs not included in those grand sagas.
Length wise we are not half. Story wise after wano theirs probably just end game stuff. Half the story is done. Half the words and length are not but that's just oda
Huh? Didn't she mean she's halfway through the current chapters?
@@skelet0n650 she's through Marineford. Which is halfway storywise but only 40% chapterwise with how long wano is. And it's nowhere near the end.
@@axby1922 ahh i see what you're saying now. Thanks
SOME SPOILER AHEAD:
Zoro probably has a strong body due to his possible relation with Shimotsuki and Ryuma.

16:36 Oda said that it was his 3rd favourite panel to draw in the entire series qnd you better remember it !
The big stone tablets with the ancient writing are roughly pronounced “Pone-eh-glyphs” where glyph is pronounced like hieroglyphs. There’s definitely a better phonetic pronunciation but I think that’s probably clear enough
The absolute best panel in Skypiea was when Conis' father pushes Conis away when he realizes Enel's judgement is coming. No hesitation.
I really enjoyed this reread review. I love all the additional context you get when you reread or rewatch a series.
16:33 Fun fact:This is one of oda’s most favourite panels from the series..
"Jaya is a great setup for things to come!"
*Laughs in Dressrosa*
laugh in reverie
Laughs in zou arc
Laugh in *Punk Hazard*
16:40 it’s funny how you bring up that panel. That’s one of Oda’s favorite scenes that he’s ever drawn. And scrawling that scene was his inspiration for the entire arc.
Merphy, could you watch one piece openings 1-14 please? Unless you seen them already
It’s cool that you are picking up on small details like Sanji’s origin because that is really important
merphy ragging on oda for not killing characters despite knowing how the summit war played out is like watching someone who just survived a bear attack walk into the bear's cave with a stick
"what's going on with Sanji's past?" Merphy you are NOT ready! I can't wait for you to get there, you're gonna love it.
Murphy, volts don't kill, amps do. He was doing 1 million volts with only 1 microamp because he has a micro...
Yeah but the body is the resistor, how many Ohm is a human body? Apperrendly between 10000 and a 1000 Ohm. Let's say 5000 Ohm then I=20000V/5000Ohm= 4A. That is enough current to kill at least 20 people.
Realistically, you can't shoot lightning out of your hands. So just go with it bro.
no no, pleasez continue this sentence.
he has a micro...?
@@JAlanne assumes the resistance of the average human body applies to the average human one piece body. Again, no one died (including the old man), therefore you should be drawing your information from what happened and not what would have happened irl. Very high voltage (and DC, not AC, just fyi) with very low current. 4A DC can't kill you, 4A AC and you stand no chance.
You are correct on part one
However, If we follow your way of thinking, a direct lighting strike would kill any human.
I knew you were waiting for Daniel to catch up with you! I hope you guys film your discussions on the series and don't leave us hanging!
The more One Piece advances the more important this arc becomes
Yea I think most of the fanbase would pretty much agree with all your complaints the fakeout deaths are annoying
Yep, i dont need much death, but some of them are way WAY too unreasonable to not just die right there.
It's a tough line to walk, between realistic consequences of the high stakes, and remaining a shonen manga. I wouldn't be surprised if Shonen Jump's rules contained a hard limit of character deaths per story

Also love the fact that Skypiea is really just the crew exploring the world and having an adventure. I think this is the most adventure-y saga ever.
Even with all its problems, Skypea is still one of my favorite arcs with all the themes, the overwhelming sense of adventure, the comedy, and Eneru as a villian all blends into an extremely fun arc for me to come back to very often
nothing i love more than listening to people talk about one piece and youve become one of my favs
