The two months that the Reverie chapters were being published were the best two months I’ve ever experienced as a weekly One Piece reader and content creator. The community was so united in its desire to theorize and break down everything that was revealed and I don’t know if there will ever be another moment like that in the fandom again until the final arc. Simply incredible!
We had been waiting for the Reverie for years! I remember I caught up to weekly manga in the return to Sabaody and it was always being mentioned "This is the year of the Reverie' (in story) since it is every four years. Was so anticipated
This arc was insane. When it first dropped the Fandom was losing its mind every week with every chapter dropped. It was so much fun to watch the chaos.
It was scraping the bottom of "okay". That's the actual standard and what drives fans insane. In slightly different words: filling in the gaps with hype. Lots of gaps, as always, that's how this story works, almost more than any other, and not because it is all a "mystery", but just left out with obsessive deliberation. Also remember, this is not a pure OP channel, not trying to be, and she is never quite as hyping as the rest, even though I would consider her very much tending to hype.
The thing about Luffy’s status is that there is no “official” Four Emperors. Whoever holds that title is determined by public perception, which Morgan is trying to shift for his own agenda. Which I think is a really good thing! As a narrative mechanic its a lot more versatile than just some sort of exclusive club that the strongest pirates are in. It still works as a tool to excite people regarding the fact that these are the 4 uber powerful pirates Luffy needs to beat, and also now *everyone* is pissed at Luffy for something beyond his own control. Kaido feels like his territory is starting to be encroached on, Big Mom feels insulted and humiliated, the Navy is on super high alert. I think its a much better and more functional decision than people seem to notice.
@Pierre In it reminds me to Arabasta, when instead of saying that Luffy was the one who defeat Cocodrile, they changed the fact and said it was smoker to make them look better.
I disagree, I don't think being an emperor is determied by public perception, people can think wathever they want being influenced by the media, that doesn't make it true though
@@rafaeljmc6313 That's partially the point though. Plenty of people think Morgans is full of shit for that article, including 3 of the other four emperors. I'm not saying he's the Fifth Emperor just because someone said he is. But at the same time, there's no official government list that inducts someone into the group. There's no ceremony. That's the point. Its intentionally nebulous.
Territories, a Huge army, an organisation that rules those territories like WE Saw with Big Mom and great strength Of the captain/Yonko and commanders makes an emperor. Even today luffy is not yet an emperor because he has no territories but he has the strength and the great fleet, the only thing missing is the territory, maybe wano after the War, fishman island a bit later .
Kuma is the only character that is at the same time a pirate, a marine and a revolutionary (while technically being none of them at the same time). And now he is nothing at all, he doesn't even have a mind anymore. That character is pure genius
This whole arc was Oda just flexing his worldbuilding skills as he brought back old characters, plotlines and theories whilst blowing our minds with the reveals. Loving the reviews Merphy!
this has probably been overstated to death, but the Levelly was one of the best times to be a weekly reader. for like a whole month Oda was just schooling us and throwing the world on its side with these reveals. after over 15 years we finally got some concrete clues on the endgame and we were PUMPED.
Since I only started reading in 2019, I watched over a lot of the old reaction and theory videos during that time just to get some understanding of how people felt and the energy was real lol
It's crazy to think how much we lost our shit over these few chapters. Can't begin to imagine how crazy it'll be once we get the payoffs from these mysteries.
The emperor "concept" is interesting, because unlike admirals and Warlords it isn't technically official, its the perspective of the public and who they see as an emperor, in short its a popularity contest and i love it xD Also big news morgan for the win hahahaha
@@emperorluffy6001 well when you consider "you have to be able to face the other emperor's" it isn't, but the concept in it self, is... One of those things that its easy to explain hard to achive, like finding the one piece, all you have to do is get to that final island, easy to explain hard to accomplish
I don't think it's a popularity contest at all and the perspective of the public doesn't mean anything as they just believed a bunch of lies from a tabloid
@@lucianofrancesco4742 What does thet even mean? It's not like it effects the story in any way or sacrafice's the pacing to make it work, it's more like a testament to how well written it is.
@@MrHimself98 What I mean is that Oda never intended this, this is a forced connection. You can literally extrapolate any number out of any given chapter. At least in my opinion.
If I remember right, during the scene where the Five Elders call Vivi’s family “traitors,” they mention it’s because they’re one of the 20 Royal families that founded the World Government, but were the only ones that refused to become Celestial Dragons.
After watching the ending of this video, I think it is important to let you know that in japanese the words: "Levely" and "Reverie" are the same word. It can just be translated in 2 different ways. The letter "L" and the letter: "R" are completely interchangeable in japanese, this has caused confusion in translations of japanese works for the longest time. Many people see this arc titled as both "Levely" and "Reverie" and ask: "Which is the correct translation?" and the answer is that: They are BOTH the correct translation. Language is fun. Anyway you will probably get a thousand comments saying exactly this, I hope this was helpful.
To elaborate a little bit on this. For the longest time this was translated just as Reverie, because it's a word that exists, and it was the accepted translation ever since it was mentioned for the first time by Vivi way back when. But when the arc started, there was a panel where Oda drew a banner, and on that banner you could read the world "Levely" in the Roman alphabet. That's the reason for both translations to exist: Reverie was the official and non-official accepted by everyone translation for around 20 years, until this arc started and Oda dropped the other one
Reverie is a French word. Thus the answer is that. Its just a translation error. Its the same with Zoro. Its obviously not Zolo, who could be inspiration for that character be i wonder lol.
Oda being the pun master he is does purposefully abuse this common translation issue. Loguetown and Roguetown being one of the first ideas he had. It's the town that was the Epilogue of Roger's journey being the world's greatest Rogue. And signals the end of the Prologue of Luffy's adventure to become the next most famous Rogue. There's another one of these puns that was revealed in Stampede, but Merph still has to catch up to in Manga reveal of it so won't spoil that.
21:50 That is my absolute FAVORITE instance of everything coming full circle in One Piece. The fact that the Celestial Dragon that Queen Otohime saved repaid the favor by saving Princess Shirahoshi is so freaking beautiful. She didn't die for nothing, her ideals, her dreams, her wishes are being carried forward into the future. Such a wonderful moment.
It’s so surreal to hear Merphy theorize about things beyond the current story arc. She’s come such a long way. Being current on One Piece is truly bittersweet.
@@sarov7658 yea I take like full year breaks then binge it. I stopped around the part in Wano where a certain straw hat member meets a guy defending a bridge… I don’t think that’s too spoilery. I’m seeing hints that wano may be over now or close to being over so I’ll probably binge again soon.
Thinking about how Luffy was declared the Fifth Emperor by Morgans, especially with Morgans' (comically incorrect) assumption of Luffy as a tactical mastermind. Here’s how Luffy's actions since Marineford probably come off to someone as in the know as Morgans: During the 2 Year Hiatus: Became the Dark King’s student Made Jinbe his subordinate and had him go undercover with the Big Mom Pirates along with the rest of the Sun Pirates, where Jinbe also convinced Capone Bege to plot against her Went to Marineford to ring the Ox Bell with the previous two before vanishing, using the newspapers to discreetly announce a 2 year hiatus to his activities Had Sanji tap his Germa connections and have them fake an arranged marriage with the Big Mom Pirates Convinced Trafalgar Law to become a Warlord with the full intention of undermining Doflamingo and the Warlord system Return to Activity: Hired grunts to imitate his crew to distract the Marines while he left the Archipelago with his full crew Entered Fishman Island just in time to halt a coup against the royal family, gaining their favour Rendezvoused with Jinbe and rebuffed Big Mom’s control of Fishman Island Partnered with Law on Punk Hazard, outflanked Doflamingo’s attempt to avoid accountability and defeated him outright on Dressrosa in a single day Destabilised the underworld, the Warlord system, and the global power structure as a whole by doing this, convincing those in the know that their immediate target is Doflamingo’s biggest client, Kaido Restored the monarchy to strike against the World Government’s authority, playing Fujitora’s sympathies to make him turn a blind eye (heh) to Luffy’s activities Met up with his second brother, Sabo of the Revolutionary Army, providing him with Fire Fist Ace’s Devil Fruit and possibly passing on information to his Father, the Revolutionary Dragon Revealed a grand fleet of over 5,000 people, with at least two non-Worst Generation Supernovas among them The Whole Cake Plot: Sent Sanji ahead, where he skirmished with the Big Mom Pirates to legitimise the narrative of Sanji being a dissociated pawn for Germa, before he gets collected by Bege for the planned wedding Invaded Big Mom’s territory with a skeleton crew (including a skeleton), after going to Zou and bringing Pedro of the Treetops out of retirement as a guide Defeated a Sweet Commander while having his allies set up the assassination plan and its fallback, including gaining control of the Big Mom Pirates’ secret trump card, the Mirro-World. Allowed himself to be captured to get into Whole Cake Chateau and have Jinbe bust him out Enacted his plan to assassinate Big Mom during the wedding alongside Bege and when overwhelmed, enacted his fallback plan of destroying Whole Cake Chateau Defeated the Big Mom Pirates’ second-in-command and successfully escaped the full wrath of their armada, with Pedro, Germa, and the Sun Pirates (led by Jinbe) all putting themselves on the line to defend him Is now presumably heading to wherever the rest of his crew is, all of whom have once again disappeared Morgans might be able to figure out that Wano is most likely his next target by his samurai allies in Dressrosa and Doflamingo’s defeat being an effective declaration of war against Kaido, but if Luffy’s proven anything it’s that he’s unpredictable From the perspective that this is all intentional, Luffy comes off as a supreme chessmaster with a seemingly infinite list of connections and powerful allies across several factions, on top of a considerable amount of personal strength. If Morgans knows anything about the Poneglyphs and Robin, this would be even more so. I haven't even noted theoretical narratives that could be spun like Brook using his status as Soul King to raise funds for the Straw Hats while spreading propaganda and sympathy for them. I can see the hype behind calling him the Fifth Emperor when you don't know that everything he does is a combination of imprompteau equal alliances he just gets more credit for, sheer charisma and willpower, and dumb luck. credits: u/Rmuda
It's all about perception. Their world has been making incorrect assumptions (hilariously, as you've mentioned) about the "dastardly" Luffy and his "devious" Straw Hats! 🤣 This is why people are always surprised when they meet the real Luffy and crew
The 180-degree flip of that Donquixote made me cry, it’s like Otohime saved the entire fishmen race from beyond the grave thru that guy. All her efforts weren’t for nothing, she was right after all. The level of patience from Oda to have to wait for years before he drops these satisfying revelations.
There's always that tinge of sadness when a newcomer gets caught up with the rest of us. I've really enjoyed rediscovering the series through your perspective. Looking forward to the Wano discussions
Those 6 weeks of Reverie were the craziest times to be a week to week reader. Every single week mindblowing revelations, hourlong discussions and theories. So many things that lets you recontextualize so many parts of the story. Rocks, Shanks, Vivi, Bonney, the strawhat, Doflamingo's knowledge, ancient weapons and so so much more. Without a doubt the greatest info dump I've ever read
I caught up to the manga right around chapter 899, so I was pretty happy to see such massive hype for both Reverie and Wano immediately after catching up. Good times
As an addition to something you touched on in this video: Why do you think the 5 elders were so receptive to one of the Emporers (Shanks) wishing to talk? Do you think they would be as unfazed if Big Mom were to appear and ask to speak with them?
Probably 'cause they knew shanks isn't the type to go YOLO and just starts killing anyone in sight. Unlike Big mom or Kaido who will RAGE if they hear something they don't like.
@@user-mx6ut6tm1t yeaaah, it was already showed in marineford. We can imagine how kaido could act in that war if he was the one arriving. Linlin maybe was more like shanks, calm and with some purpose, plan. But with any little stuff (example MMAMAA OARS JR. I WANT YOU) the chaos start in 2 seconds. They just cant go talk to the 5 elders lmao
Morj's theory about the hat is by far the best imo. The Ancient Weapons represent the three different forms of Haki, Shirahosi represents Conqueror's because she commands the wills of others, Pluton represents Armament because it's sheer physical force, and Uranus represents Observation- the Hat. Except it's not always a hat, it's some future telling object that can identify threats to whoever is in possession of it and change it's shape to represent them. When Im was looking at it, it was on Luffy, but judging by the knife in Vivi's picture, it eventually landed on her. This is what allows the government to have such control, because they can identify and eliminate threats to it's rulers before they even act.
Koala is doing it for the fishmen, because she is the same girl fisher tiger and the sun pirates rescued, on the whole i think the revolutionaries just sort of include the fishmen as a part of the problem with the celestial dragons
Hey Merphy/Mods✌, I would recommend to cut act 3 of Wano into 3 Parts. Act 3 is already 79 chapters long! The Whole Cake Island Arc had 78 chapters. That is how I would cut the parts: 958-974 975-1000 1001- The mods approve or change the cuts. I just want to share my thoughts so Merphy has a good experience with Wano👍
Personally would love a full act 3 video since it’s just 1 long crazy ride that keeps getting better and better. Maybe split 2 parts if anything oden flashback/the raid
Honestly Wano should be cut into 4 parts. It has very obvious cut off points but the start of act 3 and then the rest of act 3 could be 2 seperate videos
I believe the vinsmoke bros have emotions, since they enjoyed tormenting Sanji for instance. Judge took away "positive emotions", like kindness, compassion, empathy, and any emotion that would stop them being cold blooded soldiers. Such as fear, which is why they laughed at the irony of their situation at the wedding.
Otohime's saving of Myosgard is even bigger now we've learned of his full name. His brother Homing deciding to go out in the world is ridiculed, as shown by Toejam Most Punchable, and probably made Myosgard's life worse (if that can happen when you can literally have everything you want). The fact that he was able to see Otohime's sacrifice as what it was and grow from it is wonderful.
Kuma was known as "The Tyrant". Before becoming a pirate he was the King of the Sorbet Kingdom. The character we know as Bonney assumed the identity of the Queen Dowager of the Sorbet Kingdom "Connie" and got into Marie Geosie. Those are all facts. Theories have arisen about Bonney being actually Connie and being Kuma's mother/wife. I don't like those theories. My personal theory goes as follows: * Kuma married into Royalty: He married someone I want to be called "Annie", daughter of Connie, Queen of Sorbet (Oda drew Kuma as a kid, and he looks poor, wearing ragged clothes, so he was not a Royal by birth). * Annie's father died (Let's call him Donnie), and Kuma and Annie became King and Queen. * They had a daughter, Princess Bonnie, who is extremely similar to her grandmother (which is perfectly common). * X many years ago, Annie got to know something she should not and was killed by CP0, or she was collateral in whatever scheme the World Government was trying to pull, or something like that. She died and the WG was at fault is what's important. * Kuma became a tyrant, taking his anger onto his people. Maybe he knew she was killed by the WG, maybe he didn't. * Later, he either got to know or decided to act on that knowledge, and he left the Kingdom to launch a suicidal attack on the World Government. Princess Bonnie was left behind to be raised by Connie, who now assumed the role of ruler as Queen Dowager. * The Revolutionary Army got a hold of him (maybe they are the ones that told him what happened to Annie) and convinced him to go deep undercover * He became a pirate and built up a rep so that he would be invited as a Shichibukai. * WG thought of keeping your enemies closer, so they recruited him, in case he did know something about whatever they did that cost Annie's life. * He was never fully trusted, that's why he was, on Doffy's words, their lapdog, agreeing to everything they said, always showing up. * That's also why he agreed to be experimented on. * Vegapunk CLEARLY is not fully on board with the government's agenda, because he agreed to program Kuma to look after the Sunny. He might be on board with the revolution, or maybe he is just a mad scientist who doesn't give a crap about anything and agreed to that so that he was allowed to replace his brain with an artificial one and see how that would work. If the former, though, you can expect Kuma's true self to be backed up somewhere, either within his own head, waiting for the appropriate trigger, or in Vegapunk's lab. * When Princess Bonnie got to know about what happened to her mother, and why her father left, years later, she set sail to find and save her father and became the pirate Jewelry Bonney. * As she is extremely similar to her grandmother, when she ages herself she can pass as Connie
I really think the sorbet kingdom was a poor country. When Oda drew kuma as a Child he seems like a poor boy. Also in this arc we get to know that theres something call hevenly tribute, that not much countries can afford. Maybe he was a pirating to pay this tribute and eventuallly became a warlord
This is not yet confirmed, but i believe Shanks is talking about Blackbeard, since BB is a really dangerous person, and Shanks seems to be the only person who is not underestimating him. Remember when Shanks went to talk to Whitebeard and said that Blackbeard was the one who gave him the sick scar on his face?
You are correct. But rhe WG really shouldn't be downplaying him. BB took their strongest jailer and prisoners, he killed WB, holds 2 of the most powerful devil fruits, can apparently steal another, and he destroyed their base.
i think youre right, but whitebeard didnt underestimate him, and only didnt go after him himself because ace wanted to deal with it (this is shown in more detail in the new ace side story. i know whitebeard seemed to underestimate him when talking to shanks), and i dont think the wg is underestimating him
Everyone was losing their minds with every last couple of panels in each chapter! It was so huge that WE needed a break. When Shanks appeared and had a meeting with the The Five Elders, it was crazy to everyone that the chapter was #1 trending in Twitter!
The levels of hype that the fandom reached during the time these chapters came out was immeasurable, I vividly remember sitting at my computer and being blown away every week
Man I LOVE how deep you are into the details of the story now, paying attention and not just read it superficially. This is one of the best parts of One Piece. the theorizing and posibilities to think about. You pay really well attention. thats how one piece is consumed the best way :3. Happy new year!
Catching up and going week to week is a double-edged sword that many manga fans are all too familiar with. In general, I tend to think one piece arcs read much better as a binge and waiting a week or two for a new chapter can feel excruciating, especially when a story or event is building to a climax. Conversely, one of my favorite parts of Sunday mornings is waking up nice and early (my time) to a fresh batch of official releases and popping in to Roger's stream to see him freak out and point out details and references that I may have missed. Still something to look forward to though!
I think the longer arcs are definitely better? Maybe? when you can read them all the way through. Like I enjoyed Dressrosa a lot more going back and rereading the whole thing in one shot thsn I did week to week. I think when you're doing it week to week you don't enjoy it as much because any chapter that doesn't have a big reveal or something feels like can feel like a "wasted" week when the arc gets into the 70th, 80th, 90th chapter. Whereas going back and reading it when it's done you can appreciate those chapters for world building, tension building, etc.
about shanks, the elders specifically say that they agreed to meet with him "because it's him", which is the exact same thing that Sengoku (afro buddha marine) said in the Marineford arc when Shanks demanded to take the bodies of WB and Ace. I wonder what Shanks is or what has he done to earn this treatment from the marines...
There was a theory about that. According to the theory. Shanks was a celestial dragon who is raised by pirates. (Roger pirates) It happened in the GOD VALLEY incident. According to the timeline shanks was 1 year old when that happened. And after the God Valley fight Roger pirates find him and raised. That's why Roger said "It's been a long time since we hold a baby" when he was holding Hiyori. That's why Sengoku didn't do anything to Shanks. Or 5 elders decided to see him. . I think it's a good theory.
When we saw all the Kumas pop up at Sabaody we did not know how it was possible that there are so many of them. They were no replicated robots because they could bleed. With the knowledge we gained during WCI about lineage factor we now know that Vegapunk actually CLONED Kuma and then modified the clones and turned them into cyborgs.
But Fujitora is presenting the news as if Vegapunk developed a new ultimate weapon. Since we know from Punk Hazard that Vegapunk was the lead investigator of lineage factor and its relation with devil fruits, we can speculate that he may have replicated devil fruit powers efectively. So maybe the ultimate weapons are the same bunch of Kumas, but now with broken devil fruit powers. Maybe a lot of them have Paw Paw Fruits of their own.
One of the things that really blew me away is that for 20 years the fandom thought Luffy's strawhat was a symbol of inherited will and well.. that's it. And while that's powerful, now we know it's so much more than that. These kinds of secrets that we didn't even know existed still continue to happen 20 years later... Oda is a genius.
So I started the OP anime over the summer and when I got to the Reverie and saw the giant straw hat my mind was just blown on how deep the mystery of this world goes even further than we thought and I don't really watch other people reviews but I'm so glad to have found your channel on my feed because even though I experience OP through the anime and you with the manga we both love the world that Oda has created so thanks for the amazing reviews and can't wait for you to read and experience Wano.
It's fun coming back to these videos, seein Merphy's thoughts and theories and how some of it alligned with how canon turned out and how some of it was different. She's got a real talent for piecing together narrative beats and threads.
YAY, 2022 is the year of WANO! So the way I see it, the next steps should be: * Chapters 909-924 (starting slow with Act 1) * Chapters 925-955 (Intermission 1 and Act 2) * Chapters 956-974 (Intermission 2 and the first third of Act 3) * Chapters 975-1000 (second third of Act 3) * Chapters 1001-Whichever will get released by the time
no waaay, your so called "baseless" theory of the giant straw hat being one of the 3 weapons is actually a very known theory about it and has a lot of strong points going in its way, it's actually the one i personally believe the most!
oh really?! That's awesome! When I'm caught up I need to look up all the reasons people believe it because I really don't have a lot to back my guess up
@@merphynapier42 yea to be fair it only makes sense once other theorys are established and assumed to be true, but thats why im so impressed that was a wild guess from you ahaha, good job lol
@@merphynapier42 Also be aware Merphy that Morgan declaring Luffy an Emperor does not make him one. At leats not at this point in the story. Luffy is still not ready ( those who are caught up in the series know what I am talking about ) for him to go toe to toe up against the Emperors. He still has a way to go in terms of power till he becomes an true Emperor, not just because the paper say so. Remember when Blackbeard was reading the papers and saying it was still too early. Its true. Shanks however says that he will be able to see Luffy soon. Soon. Not yet, but soon. He is slowly but surely becoming an emperor, not because the papers say he is, but because he truly is. Second. Big Mom does not want to teak up with Kaido. She wants to kill Luffy on her own and tells Kaido to not lay his hands on him. Luffy is hers to kill. Kaido however denies.
My preferred twist on this theory is that the hat isn’t the defined shape but it’s something that changes shape into something that represents a threat or a future change in the world.
The best part for me during this arc was when Big Mom was asking when exactly did she lose to Luffy, and the paper just angering her even more. This arc lays so much ground work for the future, and I can't wait to see what reveals we get. I have my own theories about the straw hat, but something to note, when Luffy first met Buggy, Luffy announced that the straw hat he got from Shanks was his treasure. I don't know if the frozen straw hat is supposed to be a parallel to that, but it's something I've always kept note of in the back of my head.
Wano doesn't participate in the Reverie because they're not affiliated with the World Government. It's been implied that not all nations of the world are members of the World Government, but an overwhelming amount are.
A big thing is the WG makes u part of it or your life's so hard u join for protection but wano doesn't need protection pre kaido it was fine and post kaido well thr WG ain't doing snatching to that. It's so hard to invade wano I mean big moms ship failed ....a few times to get up had kaido been there too or Oden pre kaido no ones getting up that waterfall So wano is one of the few able to bot need the WG in a world this dangerous I assume Elbaf is the same probably hard to invade the giants island so they don't need to join. (The WG giants talk about how they are not brutes like Elbaf so I assume not aligned)
It's not implied it's out right stated if you don't pay the Heavenly Tribute to the Celestial Dragons you can't be part of the World Government, which means the Marines turn a blind eye and let Pirates attack you
21:56, also interesting fact, you probably saw it, the Celestial Dragon that intervened to save Shirahoshi (Mermaid Princess) is a Donquixote, same family name as Doflamingo
I would love to see merphy reacting to some theories when she gets to the point where the story is right now, see her telling her opinions on theories would be really interesting
Its so unreal that youre now in our discussion ball pack. You can theorize on anything now and dont fear about spoilers, cause we all dont. You made it
check back to Dofllamingo's lore dump on the 20 kingdoms The Nefertaris are "traitors" because they're the only country that stayed at the surface and didn't go become celestial dragons
I don't think I've heard anyone else speculate that dismantling the warlord system would = vegapunk turning them all into Kuma-like cyborgs.... that would be wild, and I like it lol. Keep theorizing! I like seeing what you come up with, and I think you'll have so much fun in the week to week one piece community when you get all caught up.
Nah the pacifistas already occupy that role of cyborgs/war machines. Another theory going around is that since vegapunk is experimenting with artificial devil fruits like kaidos fruit being artificially given to momonosuke, he might come up with a way to create artificial logia fruits. We know that artificial zoans already exist.
@@HyakuJuu01300 Thats the thingk she didnt miss it. We as a community are used to riding with the theories of our content creators and most say SSG is just marines improved by Vega punk. But it can really be like she theorized, Just imagine Mihawk with Kizaru abilities. Now thats how you make a "Special Science Group" which can be even be considered a threat at this point
There is a theory that the three ancient weapons are tied to the three types of Haki. Pluton, the super powered warship represents Armament Haki, Poseidon(Shirahoshi) with her power to control Sea Kings represents Conqueror's Haki. If the Hat is the third, Uranus, it may be something that can take the form of something to warn whoever has it, like Observation Haki lets someone sense something.
Woah. Thinking about it, 3 haki has a semblance to the 3 constitutions of a human being: body, mind and soul. Body - armament (represents one's fortitude) Mind - observation (represents one's psyche) Soul/spirit - conqueror's (represents one's will)
Donquixote Mjosgard was one of the first new character that I got introduced when I caught up with the manga . I was so excited when I saw his full name after hearing all the other theories and everything . So many old and beloved characters was once again seen in the panels during this arc after years of absence .
Lol it's funny that I think you just missed the most important part in Koala's motivation line. It's not more so on the issue of Fishmen, but the fact that Koala stated the revolutionary army's enemy is not the World Government itself, but rather the Celestial Dragons who control it. That's the line that we should remember.
I forgot to prewrite this comment so here we are: This is offically the last review I will be able to watch since I haven't started wano to stack some episodes in anime. I thank you sincerly for the great reviews and making my fridays much better. I am looking forward to enjoy the series as equals from now on. Take care
Also that nice toe jam that saved crybaby princess is Mingo's uncle which goes to show that the entire doflamingo family are outside the norm of the regular toe jams
Chapter 903 was the chapter I caught up to the manga. With every chapter I had so many questions and wanted to discuss things with the community. Because of that I searched online for one piece creators. I had so many Videos to watch at this time. So much fun
they probably called cobra and his family a bunch of traitors because they descend from a family of celestial dragons that decided to continue to rule their kingdom instead of ascending to mariejois at the establishment of the world government.
Had the biggest smile on my face hearing about you talk about you doing week-to-week theorizing with everyone. Can't wait for you to engage with the community.
The Pokemon is a character that we know of, but haven’t seen. He’s the navy admiral that replaced Aokiji during the timeskip. His alias (like Red Dog, Blue Pheasant, Yellow Monkey and Purple Tiger) means Green Bull, so, purely speculation, plant based superpowers? Makes sense given what he said
Exactly. The way she kind of does a disservice by not knowing the big character names and or dismisses them entirely is really off-putting. Dont get me wrong. I watch her videos regularly but this is weird. Imagine saying Ryokugyu a pokemon(I know its a joke), or not knowing the name of one of the most hyped character of Onepiece saying Katos, I mean come on that's ridiculous. She does not even try to remember the name Im-Sama.
@@MohitKumar-ve3je names are hard to remember when you are rushing through the chapters. I’m sure she will know them after she is able to take a while to reread and breakdown the story.
@@MohitKumar-ve3je it’s not like she doesn’t get the importance of the character tho. She obviously knows this is an admiral and is respectively as strong and important.
@@declanglover4752 I understand names are hard to remember. But it's literally written on the image Navy HQ Admiral Ryokugyu that she showed. And she still says Pokemon. And forgetting shirahoshi or Rebecca is one thing. But how the heck can you forget Kaido, the world's strongest creature who has been hyped for like 200 chapters at that point. Maybe I am overreacting but the onepiece nerd in me says you need to remember atleast the important character names if you are reviewing a story. And reverie arc is literally 10 chapters long there's nothing much to remember.
Despite you saying that people have theorized this you have brought some interesting thoughts to the table it’s super awesome to hear more thoughts and input on it

Okay, two users already provided clarification as to the Levelly, Reverie thing, i'll try to add a little more. Okay so Japanese has three different alphabets, hiragana, katakana and Kanji. Both Hiragana and Katana are syllabe based alphabets, one letter represents a syllabe and of the two, hiragana is used for japanese words and katakana is used for foreign words. Kanjis are the well-known pictograms somewhat similar to the chinese ones. Kids start by learning hiragana and then learn some kanjis, thus mangas are written in hiragana. Since japanese people use the same sounds for L and R, unless it's explicitly written in out alphabet, there's no way to know if itś meant to be an R o an L, thus the Reverie/Levelly thing
Dear God! You bring us back the Raging Storm that stroke us when Those chapters were out! People were going crazy! One piece becoming Trending Topic in twitter 4 Weeks straight! And our heads were hurt just to crack open whats going on and what will possibly going to be! Tbh, ixm mildly tearing up when you talking about Kuma ... sweet dear Kuma, the gentle Kuma. Man, we all love him as much as you do 😢 BIG NEWS!
I am not sure if the war will happen so soon. Honestly I am kinda hoping for a Franky v Vegapunk showdown. While Vegapunk seems to have been a good guy, but his alliance with world government is unclear. It would be cool to get some backstory on him as well. I suspect that there will be some kind of showdown between Vegapunk and Franky, where we will see Franky getting upgraded. There are also other characters that need some power ups before they can handle another war.
The Vegapunk character is interesting because we already a bit how he ended with the marines and he implanted in kuma his last wish, which means he isn't completely heartless, very interested in his proper introduction
merph, it is literally ALWAYS cool for you to dress how you want for these, and any other videos you make. you're a genuine comfort, and a good time, and the more you're comfortable, the more I'M comfortable, and i need to be comfortable right now, maybe more now than ever before. so, do you. and also, thank you. for everything.
I cant wait to see more character breakdowns. Bc with this channel being a BookTube style the way Merphy approaches things is much different than the standard One Piece fan. So seeing how the characters are broken down from that perspective will be neat.
I think my favorite part of this arc was all these rulers of the different nations coming together and going "Luffy saved your kingdom too? F*ck yeah! Let's go."
Once Merphy is completely caught up, I would love to see a collab or stream with her, Roger, and Tekking! The amount of theories and conversation between the 3 would be insane haha
I believe that the hat is just a "marker" for a tomb, where there is a body conserved by the low temperature(maybe joyboy?), to whom the hat belonged, which makes me think that the reason Doflamingo wanted Law's fruit was to use the body swap ability, placing himself in the conserved body.
it's a nice detail how Morgan's dialogue indicates that people outside of Goa think it's a peaceful place. the nobles hide the real picture from the media to keep good appearances(similar to Japan and other countries if you ask me, just not to the same extent) just like they did when the celestial dragon came to visit the kingdom. nobody outside knows of the existense of Grey Terminal
Would love to see you in the next TH-cam Reverie you should be caught up by then its basically just a bunch of one piece youtubers getting in a call together and just talking about what they think is gonna happen in one piece
ALSO celestial toejam that got saved by the queen is named DONQUIXOTE Mjosgard, meaning he's biologically related to Doffy in some way, I don't remember. Probably nothing important but I always thought it was a neat little detail.
I really really recommend you to watch episode 957 of the anime when you're around the same chapters in the manga It is one of THEE best episodes the anime has had in a LONG time and it's just really fun to watch, specially when you're not really used to watch anime like myself lol Keep up with the reviews! Have been awesome to re experience this whole journey with you
Reading this arc week-to-week was bananas. As a fanbase, we looked forward to the next chapter giving us some closure on the cliffhanger from the last chapter, just to be shown a brand-new mystery and an even bigger cliffhanger at the end of the next chapter
I actually remember reading the chapter where carlos tried to capture shirahoshi while i was at the greenfield festival 2018. At one point i said quite loudly, while we were sitting at the camp sight, holy shit and everybody turned their heads to me and i just said: "Sorry this is a relly good chapter". The hype, the frinds around me the festival setting, it was a really awesome moment to read a one piece chapter and i don't think i'll ever forget that moment. Now that i think about there were more than just a few moments where reading a hype one piece chapter either enhanced an already good moment or made an otherwise misreable moment magical. This show has been with me for so long and i really have alot of love for it and the memories it gave me. I guess i'll end my rant here but i could go on. Thx for reading and since it's time appropriat i wish everyone a happy new year.
As far as I know the third admiral is supposed to be a secret. I don't know if there's any weird theory about it (I'm sure it is) but I don't think it's important.
Dear Merphy, I just cached up with your newest video and wanted to use the moment to let you know how much I enjoy your reviews. Your gushing over the characters is so much fun and I can whole heartedly agree with you. Also I think you are an enormous asset to the one piece Fandom and I absolutely love your "mom view" on the series. Never stop telling us your real opinion. Great work!
never thought I would ever watch book reports as an adult and look forward to new ones so damn much. Thanks for vids. I love listening to these while playing video games.
Don't worry if you think your theories are not very organized at this point. That happened to literally EVERY One Piece fan when we reached the Reverie
I’m not sure if you said this in the video but before I forget: we actually see a reverie all the way back in the alabasta saga (I think it was in drum island) we got a flashback to the reverie!
Sanji doesn’t hate all science, just specifically anything that comes from Germa 66. His thing with the raid suit is that he doesn’t want to feel like he’s relying on his family’s technology.
I watched this video like 3 or 4 times already just because I'm way too hyoe for you to chatch up I feel like you're both too late and too early to catch up to one piece but seeing new people in the fandom who theorize and speculate and try to figure out the story makes me genuinely happy. So thank you for that
Turns out Levely and Reverie are the same thing, just a translation complication. I blame Tom
Totally understandable. Just another Zolo situation. I do like the idea of superhero/power ranger/cyborg Sanji. See you in Wano, Merphy!
We feel you Merph, we feel you. Happy holidays and a new year!
Yeah, damn Tom
I wish you'd put TIMESTAMPS
The One Piece Fandom loves you Merphy
The two months that the Reverie chapters were being published were the best two months I’ve ever experienced as a weekly One Piece reader and content creator. The community was so united in its desire to theorize and break down everything that was revealed and I don’t know if there will ever be another moment like that in the fandom again until the final arc. Simply incredible!
We had been waiting for the Reverie for years! I remember I caught up to weekly manga in the return to Sabaody and it was always being mentioned "This is the year of the Reverie' (in story) since it is every four years. Was so anticipated
Roger tha 🐐
Same. Remains my favorite arc (though Water 7 will always be my favourite saga)
I remember I started watching your chapter reactions right when reverie started and it was such a wild ride.
Totally agree! Im not into OP action scenes, but to lore and deep storyline focused. Reverie is my hypest arc ever
This arc was insane. When it first dropped the Fandom was losing its mind every week with every chapter dropped. It was so much fun to watch the chaos.
The sad thing about this Arc is that it ended to early.
@@Newworld-gk6us and getting better during mid of wano
Only thing that's been as hype as the Reverie weekly since Post-timeskip, is what's coming in the beginning of act 3.
@Carlos A It is.
@Pierre In The media had already overhyped Buggy, now it's time for a properly targeted piece of hype.

The emperor "concept" is interesting, because unlike admirals and Warlords it isn't technically official, its the perspective of the public and who they see as an emperor, in short its a popularity contest and i love it xD
Also big news morgan for the win hahahaha
It's not that simple at all.

Except Reverie has an actual meaning and Levely is just gibberish.
@@FuckTH-camAndGoogle pretty sure levelly is an actual word. lol

I mean the reverie was like 2-3 years ago so I wouldn't say she's current just yet.

Thinking about how Luffy was declared the Fifth Emperor by Morgans, especially with Morgans' (comically incorrect) assumption of Luffy as a tactical mastermind. Here’s how Luffy's actions since Marineford probably come off to someone as in the know as Morgans:
During the 2 Year Hiatus:
Became the Dark King’s student
Made Jinbe his subordinate and had him go undercover with the Big Mom Pirates along with the rest of the Sun Pirates, where Jinbe also convinced Capone Bege to plot against her
Went to Marineford to ring the Ox Bell with the previous two before vanishing, using the newspapers to discreetly announce a 2 year hiatus to his activities
Had Sanji tap his Germa connections and have them fake an arranged marriage with the Big Mom Pirates
Convinced Trafalgar Law to become a Warlord with the full intention of undermining Doflamingo and the Warlord system
Return to Activity:
Hired grunts to imitate his crew to distract the Marines while he left the Archipelago with his full crew
Entered Fishman Island just in time to halt a coup against the royal family, gaining their favour
Rendezvoused with Jinbe and rebuffed Big Mom’s control of Fishman Island
Partnered with Law on Punk Hazard, outflanked Doflamingo’s attempt to avoid accountability and defeated him outright on Dressrosa in a single day
Destabilised the underworld, the Warlord system, and the global power structure as a whole by doing this, convincing those in the know that their immediate target is Doflamingo’s biggest client, Kaido
Restored the monarchy to strike against the World Government’s authority, playing Fujitora’s sympathies to make him turn a blind eye (heh) to Luffy’s activities
Met up with his second brother, Sabo of the Revolutionary Army, providing him with Fire Fist Ace’s Devil Fruit and possibly passing on information to his Father, the Revolutionary Dragon
Revealed a grand fleet of over 5,000 people, with at least two non-Worst Generation Supernovas among them
The Whole Cake Plot:
Sent Sanji ahead, where he skirmished with the Big Mom Pirates to legitimise the narrative of Sanji being a dissociated pawn for Germa, before he gets collected by Bege for the planned wedding
Invaded Big Mom’s territory with a skeleton crew (including a skeleton), after going to Zou and bringing Pedro of the Treetops out of retirement as a guide
Defeated a Sweet Commander while having his allies set up the assassination plan and its fallback, including gaining control of the Big Mom Pirates’ secret trump card, the Mirro-World.
Allowed himself to be captured to get into Whole Cake Chateau and have Jinbe bust him out
Enacted his plan to assassinate Big Mom during the wedding alongside Bege and when overwhelmed, enacted his fallback plan of destroying Whole Cake Chateau
Defeated the Big Mom Pirates’ second-in-command and successfully escaped the full wrath of their armada, with Pedro, Germa, and the Sun Pirates (led by Jinbe) all putting themselves on the line to defend him
Is now presumably heading to wherever the rest of his crew is, all of whom have once again disappeared
Morgans might be able to figure out that Wano is most likely his next target by his samurai allies in Dressrosa and Doflamingo’s defeat being an effective declaration of war against Kaido, but if Luffy’s proven anything it’s that he’s unpredictable
From the perspective that this is all intentional, Luffy comes off as a supreme chessmaster with a seemingly infinite list of connections and powerful allies across several factions, on top of a considerable amount of personal strength.

As an addition to something you touched on in this video:
Why do you think the 5 elders were so receptive to one of the Emporers (Shanks) wishing to talk? Do you think they would be as unfazed if Big Mom were to appear and ask to speak with them?
Shank is evil is literally the worst theory ever

That is how I would cut the parts:

975-1000
1001-

I believe the vinsmoke bros have emotions, since they enjoyed tormenting Sanji for instance. Me: 900 chapters in, I wonder what long standing mysteries Oda will wrap up first as we slowly conclude the series?
Oda: Here's some more lol.
My personal theory goes as follows:
* Kuma married into Royalty: He married someone I want to be called "Annie", daughter of Connie, Queen of Sorbet (Oda drew Kuma as a kid, and he looks poor, wearing ragged clothes, so he was not a Royal by birth).
* The Revolutionary Army got a hold of him (maybe they are the ones that told him what happened to Annie) and convinced him to go deep undercover
* He became a pirate and built up a rep so that he would be invited as a Shichibukai.
Sick theory, I love it !!
Tyrant is Tyrano
Rex is king
Merphy please read this!!!
Her Oda Box says Dowager Queen. Isn't she Kuma Mom? I guess your theory looks good though. What about that smiling Kuma in Sabos memory
The saddest thing to me is the realization that Kuma is no longer "Paw Paw Warlord guy" to Merphy
I'm so looking forward to merphy getting to chapter 957
The week to week experience of this arc is just the community imploding on itself every week.
Facts
Ah yes, good times good times!
*Chapter drops each week* Okay time to go 🥊
Agree, it was one of one piece finest experience
This arc as a manga reader that was caught up was one of the best ever
Oda really made an arc that after leaving we were just like “HUH??!?”
So the way I see it, the next steps should be:
* Chapters 909-924 (starting slow with Act 1)
* Chapters 925-955 (Intermission 1 and Act 2)
* Chapters 956-974 (Intermission 2 and the first third of Act 3)
* Chapters 975-1000 (second third of Act 3)
* Chapters 1001-Whichever will get released by the time
no waaay, your so called "baseless" theory of the giant straw hat being one of the 3 weapons is actually a very known theory about it and has a lot of strong points going in its way, it's actually the one i personally believe the most!
@@merphynapier42 watch Mr morj's video on this it has no spoilers!!!
21:40 And he is related to Doflamingo: Donquixote Mjosgard
Wano doesn't participate in the Reverie because they're not affiliated with the World Government. It's been implied that not all nations of the world are members of the World Government, but an overwhelming amount are.
A big thing is the WG makes u part of it or your life's so hard u join for protection but wano doesn't need protection pre kaido it was fine and post kaido well thr WG ain't doing snatching to that.
It's so hard to invade wano I mean big moms ship failed ....a few times to get up had kaido been there too or Oden pre kaido no ones getting up that waterfall
So wano is one of the few able to bot need the WG in a world this dangerous I assume Elbaf is the same probably hard to invade the giants island so they don't need to join.
You made it
check back to Dofllamingo's lore dump on the 20 kingdoms
The Nefertaris are "traitors" because they're the only country that stayed at the surface and didn't go become celestial dragons
Also the giant from the Revolutionary Army is the one who made the secret floor in impel down, just a little fun thing I didn't notice the first time
I don't think I've heard anyone else speculate that dismantling the warlord system would = vegapunk turning them all into Kuma-like cyborgs.... that would be wild, and I like it lol. Keep theorizing! I like seeing what you come up with, and I think you'll have so much fun in the week to week one piece community when you get all caught up.
It is actually quite a prominent theory in the community
@@suyashgairola6270 could you point me to some creators? Its not something anyone in my current line up has mentioned. Thanks!
Nahh SSG is something else entirely different. She seems to have missed that part while focusing too much on Kuma.
Body - armament (represents one's fortitude)
Mind - observation (represents one's psyche)
Soul/spirit - conqueror's (represents one's will)
Donquixote Mjosgard was one of the first new character that I got introduced when I caught up with the manga .
I forgot to prewrite this comment so here we are:
This is offically the last review I will be able to watch since I haven't started wano to stack some episodes in anime.
Man, I remember getting back into One Piece when this arc happened. Such a great time to return.
Chapter 903 was the chapter I caught up to the manga. With every chapter I had so many questions and wanted to discuss things with the community. Because of that I searched online for one piece creators. I had so many Videos to watch at this time. So much fun
I'm glad Merphy never forgets about her deaf audience with her ASL
Queen Otohime, someway, somehow, saved Shirahoshi without violence. It's amazing.
16:25 literally every one piece fan reading that section and arriving at the giant straw hat
they probably called cobra and his family a bunch of traitors because they descend from a family of celestial dragons that decided to continue to rule their kingdom instead of ascending to mariejois at the establishment of the world government.
Makes sense given what he said
Ganja ganja no mi
Man, we all love him as much as you do 😢
BIG NEWS!
It's always impressive how much just 6 chapters can change a 1000+ chapter story.
Plz take your time with wano, being able to read act 3 without having to wait week to week might be the best experience ever
Honestly this entire ARC is just the fans speculating randomly.
ALSO celestial toejam that got saved by the queen is named DONQUIXOTE Mjosgard, meaning he's biologically related to Doffy in some way, I don't remember. Probably nothing important but I always thought it was a neat little detail.
Trust me ai thought I would dread being a week to week reader but the joy I get from a new chapter is unmatched.
I really really recommend you to watch episode 957 of the anime when you're around the same chapters in the manga
It is one of THEE best episodes the anime has had in a LONG time and it's just really fun to watch, specially when you're not really used to watch anime like myself lol
Keep up with the reviews! Have been awesome to re experience this whole journey with you
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE ! ! ! !
thanx 4 uploading Merphy-cha
Reading this arc week-to-week was bananas. As a fanbase, we looked forward to the next chapter giving us some closure on the cliffhanger from the last chapter, just to be shown a brand-new mystery and an even bigger cliffhanger at the end of the next chapter
Goda hitting us with divine judgement
As for the relationship between Jewelry Bonnie and Kuma, the country that "Connie" (Bonnie's elder form) rules is the same one that Kuma used to rule.
I CAN'T BELIEVE I'M HERE !!!! I'M HEADING TO WANO AND I'M SO EXCITED TO CATCH UP WITH YOU MERPHY !!!! SEE YOU SOON IN THE LAND OF WANO !!
Merphy is more in tune with this story than 70% of fans no cap
A lot has to do with how many damn books she has read too. She understands storytelling.
Unlike others who only appreciate fights.
Dear Merphy,
I just cached up with your newest video and wanted to use the moment to let you know how much I enjoy your reviews. Your gushing over the characters is so much fun and I can whole heartedly agree with you. Also I think you are an enormous asset to the one piece Fandom and I absolutely love your "mom view" on the series.
Never stop telling us your real opinion. Great work!
you got a theory right!!
never thought I would ever watch book reports as an adult and look forward to new ones so damn much. Thanks for vids. I love listening to these while playing video games.
Garp's interaction with stelly is still one of the funniest things in all of One Piece for me lmaooo
Watching you get excited about things I too was super excited about makes me very happy lol
MERPHY JUST GOT A W THEORY WIN
Yeah
I officially just watched all of your one piece videos, they're pretty good and can't wait for the ones about the Wano saga.
I watched this video like 3 or 4 times already just because I'm way too hyoe for you to chatch up
I feel like you're both too late and too early to catch up to one piece but seeing new people in the fandom who theorize and speculate and try to figure out the story makes me genuinely happy. So thank you for that
5:19 SHE SAID IT! SHE SAID THE THING!
SHE SAID IT!!!
I'm so excited! Can't wait to see your next reaction 😁
