This song let's you hear every fluctuation in this phenomenal man's voice, not to mention it brings me right back to my twenties and listening to Journey on the radio; yes I said radio😊 Let me say thank you for sharing and thanks for showing your audience an amazing band from the late 70's through the 80's. So glad that a young man like yourself would appreciate this music from a time when things were simpler and when music was our number one source of entertainment.
1983 during Frontiers Tour!!! Saw them during that tour. They were sooooooo great!!!! 1981 was the Escape Tour. His hair was longer during that tour. Always been the same color, brown.

I remember reading somewhere that the band didn't want Steve Perry because "he's a crooner and we wanted a screamer." But their manager overruled them and Steve as in like Flynn. Their popularity went through the roof when he joined, and they could not argue with success. Or money LOL. This song is special to me because I used to listen to it on repeat when I was in college. I'm from Los Angeles and my school was in a little town where the students went cow tipping for fun. I had not even heard of that. This song soothed my soul.

The greatest voice since Nat King Cole. What makes this performance more special is the fact that he has the flu and not at 100%. I've been a Journey fan since before Steve Perry joined. Neal actually joined the band Santana when he was 15 years old and a few years later formed Journey with bandmate Gregg Rollie. Steve came in on the fourth Journey album and the band just blew up. Like Whitney Houston, it's gonna be a long, long time before another voice like that comes around again.
I know that you did the audio version of Open Arms. But you really should do the live in Houston version. Steve said in a recent interview that he was most proud of his performance of that song in that concert. He felt that it was the best version of that song. Awesome!

Yes this is 1983 in Japan. Perry is excellent here, sure, but the band is so tight. For the record, Journey is guitarist Neal Schons band. Always had been always will. Perry and all those other great musicians who joined for certain periods of time were just temporary members in Neal Schons band called Journey.
Steve's tone is a mile wide and Neal is without a doubt one of the most underrated popular guitarists of all time. The other musicians in the world know to walk away from a gun fight if he challenged them lol.

The dude is amazing live. I seen them in 82 or 83. Really most of the 80's and a good chunk of the 90's is pretty hazy. I think it was fun maybe.

Yeah this is def 1983... Tokyo show I think. 1981 was the Houston concert film and the hair and clothes were way different
