----- His personal life in this song.... No sister, but, parents divorced when he was a small child, devastated the family, Steve (only child) stayed with mom.
@@jtoland2333---- see my other comment; and yes technically challenging too. Just beautiful, sad, turmoil, photograph and broken glass... Lyrics are amazing 😍🤩💔💔💔 Love Journey❣️❣️❣️
I was just a teen at the height of Journeys success, such a Steve Perry fan and during his prime years he never ever got the due by the music press at the time even with all their success. Steve Perry as a singer who deserves all the accolades.
Steve Perry is amazing. There is no one better. At one time Rolling Stone magazine rated Steve #76 out of 100 ! What a joke that was! Steve Perry will always be #1 to me. He is the goat. ❤️🎤❤️
They're simply the best!!!!❤ They are all masters of their craft, but Steve just puts the icing on the cake!! That piano solo was to give Steve a chance to catch his breath and rest his voice.😉 It's been said that Steve recorded this in one take!! Surprised.......I'm not!!😉👏👏👏👍❤
A masterpiece and nobody sings like Steve. Journey with him were simply fantastic. Steve together with Neal's guitar was so perfect. But Jonathan on the piano and Steve Smith on the drums and Ross on the bass were also super perfect. Check out more from the "Escape" concert, so many good songs. Also great is the "Raised on Radio" tour with "Girl can't help it" and "I'l be allright without you", there is so much more to discover, also of his solo songs "I stand alone" is fantastic. I could go on and on....
Solo Steve Perry had some sad songs. His Traces albumn was dedicated to his love who died from cancer. Cain wrote most of the 'heartfelt' songs. The towed that baby grand piano everywhere. They called it The Whale.
I always say “That folks was Steve Perry version of a mic drop at the end of the song. “ you want to really hear another song showing his vocal talent and range please react to Sweet and Simple 🫶🏼😎
Neal, one of the best melodic guitarist, Ross Valory on bass is so good. The piano is great with Jonathan Cain and Steve Smith on drums,,, The best together, awesome solid band. Steve Perry vocals, no other like him, beautiful voice.
Check out the songs “Winds of March,” “Little Girl” and “Troubled Child” and “Happy to Give.” Each of those will take you to a completely different side of them.
Steve did the studio version of this in one take; blew Jonathan Cain's mind. He is the best. This is an epic performance for each musician in the band.
Great reaction Sohum! This song was not part of the radio rotation of Journey songs. So for me at this concert in Houston was the first time hearing Mother Farther. It was and still is a powerful song. But it was a little strange at first when the song slipped into the piano solo. But then the crowd got into it. I’ve later learned Steve needed voice recovery time and they would slip in a little impromptu. We have many great singer but we will never have another Steve Perry.
Watching your reactions to #StevePerry/#Journey brings me SOOO much joy!!!!!😅💙🤗😅 You were asking about a sad song-not so much the ‘lyrical content’, but the ‘feel’, the ‘musical vibe’ of the song- what IMMEDIATELY popped into my head was ‘Little Girl’, from the album ‘Departure’- sad, HAUNTING😳- & ‘Winds of March’, from the ‘Infinity’ album (..they both do have great lyrical content too though!!!!🤪😅) And you loving guitar-both have AMAZING guitar solos as well🎸😊 I hope you’ll give them a listen🤗🎶, *PLEEAASSEEE*!!!!!!😅 Thx again for all you do!!!!!🤗🎶🎸🎤🤗
Here are couple of sad songs that you may want to listen to. It’s Just the Rain from the Trial by Fire Album and Missing You from Steve’s second solo album For the Love of Strange Medicine. I hope that you see this and enjoy!
Those are two great choices, but the one that tears me up to this day is "Most of All" from the Traces album. He wrote it before he met Kellie, but dedicated it to her after she died.
I'm a longtime lover of all things Perry, but this is one of his most moving songs. But the magic is still there. His solo work in his 60s is brilliant.
Sad songs? Well, this is pretty sad, even though there is an element of hope in it. Check out "I'm Cryin'" by them. It's a sad, bluesy song. Neal makes the guitar weep. It's great! "I'll Be Alright Without You" is a mid-tempo blues-rock song with a great outro solo. (I would suggest listening to the album version first, but do watch the live video, as well!)
There a four ( people ) groups that are simply at the pinnacle of their respective niches in rock... IMO Steve Perry (Journey ) Phil Collins ( Genesis ) ACDC Queen These 4 just Cannot miss Im so glad I discovered your channel ❤
Another great Rock voice is Jimi Jamison. His band Cobra released their album First Strike in 1983. It was excellent. Shortly after Survivor recruited Jimi to replace Dave Bickler on lead vocals due to health issues with Dave’s vocal cords. With Jimi Jamison on vocals from 1984-1988, Survivor produced numerous hits "I Can't Hold Back" (number 13 US), "High on You" (number 8 US), and "The Search Is Over" (number 4 US). “The Search Is Over” th-cam.com/video/xELTfJ-ZVBc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=qEVS9Q38HwD_W31R
Some heavy metal bands, Aerosmith for example can go to a high note, but they can't sing that note, they just scream it out which damages the vocal chords and ears. And ears of the audience.
I listened to a list of someone's top 20 rock voices and thought my ears would bleed from all the growling and screaming. Steve was not on this list: apparently the growling and screaming was what made a rock singer great.
Hmm sad songs?! Well have you listened to Steve Perry's 'Blue Jays Fly'?? It's not a very long song, however, when you listen to it. Listen to it with your eyes close!!! Also, 'What Was, Anyway < Perry songs, Journey songs > Too Late, Still She Cries, It's Just The Rain and Stay Awhile (very short song, but GREAT)

4:45 "There's the Steve Perry's of the world that take all our Joy and all our skill and yes he gives us one Heck of a show but I would love to have just 10% of what he's got". Well that may have come out sounding a bit more "Victim mentality" than he wanted it to (I don't think he even realizes how how that actually sounded too tell the truth lol) But I will say that No you DON'T want just 10% (assuming he meant starting from 0% and not 50% or 70%) of what he has. WHY? Well that would make "Mediocrity". Or something that is at best Mediocre. No one is inspired by or satisfied by that. It's actually something that would be frustrating and terribly embarrassing. In the movie Amadeus the Salieri character has gone mad and in an insane asylum he is crazy and goes around saying I'm your King to the other Nutters "I'm the KING of Mediocrity" because he couldn't be as great and fantastic as Mozart was.
Steve has said this was the hardest song to sing, so in concert the piano solo at the end was to give Steve recovery time.
He puts his whole body into this song!
@@ruthlafler5622 yes he does
Is it technically difficult or is it the subject matter?

The exciting part is that there is so much Journey left to explore plus Steve Perry’s solo career.
I’d go with “Girl Can’t Help It” next; and live of course. Always live with Journey! 😎

Absolutely. Steve deserves all the praise he gets and more
Winds of March. One of their most beautiful but under rated songs

Yes yes Winds of March
Absolute vocal tour de force by Perry! And an underrated Journey song to boot.
