- Trans-Siberian Orchestra performing Karn Evil 9 Part II with the legendary Greg Lake of ELP. This was NOT filmed by me. I received the full show in a trade years ago on DVD and decided to share this little nugget on here. Probably one of the few times I wouldn't have minded sacrificing a TSO song for a special guest. Check out Bob Kinkel killin' it!!! AWESOME!!!
That was really thoughtful of Trans Siberian Orchestra to collaborate with Greg Lake, even if it was only once.
ELP FOREVER. Thank you so much, Greg.
Emerson, Lake & Palmer Forever !!!!!
This remains the single greatest composition in prog rock.
Agreed. My favorite band is Rush but Karn Evil 9 is hands-down my favorite prog song.
@@GermiesCoasterYard Have you heard that a movie studio has secured the rights
to the lyrics of "Karn Evil 9" and will be making a movie based on those lyrics.
Carl Palmer has himself confirmed this.
@@Emerson278 I did hear that! I can't wait to see what they do with it.
@@GermiesCoasterYard Yeah, I really hope they don't screw the project up with
some shlocky crappola !
@@GermiesCoasterYard Ballroom Blitz by Sweet is another great Rock song from the 70s
Yes. Karn Evil 9 First Impression will live forever. I will always miss Keith and Greg.
I totally Agree!!! They will live on 🎶🎵
@@BFWinn1956 Rachel Flowers has a Karn evil tribute collaboration on here that is worth seeing too. Kerry Shaket(?) also has a good tribute of Keiths stuff.
Yes Greg Lake was a genius, he had a very high IQ and did not flaunt it because he was also a true gentleman!
what makes you say so? did you know him personally?
@@大当 At least, have some respect for Greg.
Incredible voice.
What a performance!
I am not a fan of TSO, but credit is due where it is deserved. This was one FANTASTIC performance by ALL. Love you Greg..and missing you BIG TIME!!!!!!!
I had goosebumps listening to this. Thank you so much for posting this. I am a massive ELP fan and saw them 4 times in my youth. RIP Greg and Keith❤️
I am still saddened by Greg's passing :(
What a treat this must have been for the folks in TSO.
YES ,I bet they were Very Happy to have Greg Lake in front ,doing what he did best !! Playing and Singing !! ☮️👍💜
"And he laughs until he cries...". Wait, something in my eye... thank you Greg.
I wish they would've done the entire First Impression. I consider it one of, if not the, best pieces of music ever written.
Agreed, First Impression Part II is the weaker part. It would have been incredible to see all of it again.
@@vcoaster Part 1 was always my favorite.
It makes me so sad, that he’s gone, but so happy that he was here for awhile.
Wonderful to see Greg do this - a very gorgeous production.
TWO formally trained keyboardists might equal one KEITH!
And it was the ELP ORCHESTRA (the High Point of Western Civilization) that gave rise to the TSO.
😯 I'm a huge fan of TSO and Greg Lake (ELP) I'm so happy to run across this! 🥰💯
Why EL&P are not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a crime!
The rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame is a joke. It’s best to just ignore this organization and enjoy the music without their influence
@@peteluetz2586 I totally agree. At this point it's a honor NOT be included in the RRHOF.
Magnificent! An all-time great tune played by the outstanding TSO along w the unique voice of Greg to lead the way! They do ELP justice!
I was there for this concert, LOVED It and rocked out so much that I had pain! Went home and took two aspirin. At the doctor's later, found out I had had a heart attack during the show. Was worth it...
Damn Rich! Glad you survived Greg & TSO!! It was truly “the show that never ends” for you!
I miss TSO too...
Their Beethoven's Last Night Tour was a SHOW like none since the 70's. Thanks for posting this gem.
Wish I could have seen this show. Its a dinamo. Wish I could have seen this show... Its rock and roll!
I have seen TSO twice, and ELP 17 times. The last time I saw TSO was on the 43rd anniversary to the day of my first ELP concert at Madison Square Garden. Greg is my all-time favorite musician I'm glad I got to meet him once, even if it was just to push his stuck limousine out of a flood at Giants stadium after the show.
I've played music for about 32 years now, he's the first guitarist I've seen that didn't drive me nuts as a drummer by having crappy time keeping. Greg actually had better time keeping than some drummers I've watched! I loved ELP, the impact of those 3 gentlemen is so fucking huge. Huge hats off to TSO for bringing him up and performing this song. Shows large amount of talent that is in that band.
Kirk Shipp quite an ironic comment as Carl’s timekeeping was horrible in ELP. He’s a hell of a drummer but both Greg and Keith had to keep the tempo in one piece during Carl’s monstrous fills.
All great drummers daisy-chain the tempo. Neal Pert had to take Jazz lessons to loosen up his metronome like playing.
ELP played off each other when at their best.
I would have lost my mind! Greg will always be with us through the music! He is immortal
100% agree with Paul O'Neill... Greg Lake was pure GENIUS!!! R.I.P. Greg and Paul... [']['][']
Really happy to see Lake was on point in this performance 40 years after he first performed it. Really on key and even hit a few of the higher notes.
Wow, what a treat. Loved GREG Lake, may he RIP .
History is made
The monsters of progressive Rock
That's awesome everyone on stage looks like having a great time and it's so cool all those guys have great respect for each other
Thanks a lot for sharing this
Greg is gone but he will never be forgotten RIP GREG LAKE
hanks a lot man for sharing this
Greg is gone but he will never be forgotten RIP GL!
DEADPUPPYFURCOAT Of course he will be forgotten, eventually. A century from now no one will know who he was.
@@jimlaguardia8185 Silly, Jim: Will you forget Mozart and Beethoven? Hence, Emerson, Lake & Palmer are the geniuses of their great generation's genre. Their longevity will reign upon the subsequent appreciating astute.
@@jimlaguardia8185
I will still remember them.
Saw TSO a couple of years ago. Loved them! Can’t even imagine seeing Greg Lake with them!! Wow!
All the Bands I couldn’t wait see when I was young a lot are gone and I suddenly feel much older
Love this song. Played the grooves off Brain Salad Surgery.
Too funny! Me too!
thank you for sharing! #RIP Greg...[Love the TSO BTW as well as ELP!}
I was in Gothenberg Sweden 1974. In Svandinsvian ARENA.ELP at there best ever!

This really was a treat thank you to the person that shared this. I would have liked to have seen the whole band with with TSO....
I still need to listen to B.S.S. from start to finish. I know it's one of the most famous prog rock albums in the history of prog rock.
The bass player is the late, great David Z (Zablidowsky). Along with his brother Paul Zablidowsky (Paulie Z) on guitar and lead vocals and drummer Joey Cassata they formed the band ZO2. ZO2 was featured in the IFC channel comedy Z Rock that aired for 2 seasons.
Grande Greg manchi ✌
私もさみしい!
This is something I'v never expected. This was fantastic.
Thank you !!!!!!!!!! ELP greatest ever
Saw Greg w/Keith and Carl. So-would have killed to see them together.
Keith Emerson !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Greatest !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had the chance to see ELP 2 times. But this one puts it up there... it takes 2 keyboardist to do what Keith used to all by himself.. and Greg is a shredder!!
Great show full of energy! Thanks Greg!
I think this is so well presented and played. Thanks for putting this on.
This almost sounds like a ELP comeback tour on 2006 with the Emerson/Bonilla band as support.
WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY GREG LAKE!!!!! WAXX TRAXX TO THE MAXX ON WUSB.FM NY
They certainly did it justice! But it takes two good keyboard players to equal one Keith Emerson! Also, hey camera person, did it not cross your mind that we might want to see a closeup of Greg’s entire guitar solo?
Loved the video, but, yeah, wished the camera person would have shown Greg a lot more. After all, he WAS the guest. Why not give him more time?
Hahahaha. That's exactly what I thought. And yeah, it takes two people to do what Emerson did.
Greg Lake was a genius that I didn't fully appreciate until the early 80s. From the late 60s, through the 70s, I was a 100 percent Emerson freak, attending every concert, working out every song on the piano, organ, and synth, with my musician friends. (I'm a keyboard guy and engineer.) My focus was entirely on Emerson and Palmer back then. I recognized that Lake's voice was spectacular and perfect for ELP but my focus was mainly on Emerson. Then, I began to appreciate Lake more and more. I'm now of the opinion that the greatest two voices in rock and roll are Greg Lake and Roy Orbison. Robert Plant is in a category of his own and incomparable to anyone else. There's nobody liek him so there's nothing to compare. Steve Perry, also a tremendous voice, but a niche singer. He always sounds the same. Greg Lake, on the other hand, had many different sounds and moods he could communicate with his voice. He also composed some amazingly good stuff. From the Beginning? Now that's some genius right there, musically, vocally, guitar skill-wise. You'd think guitarists would play this song more often. It's easy to sing. Ahh, but it's not so easy to play. If you want to understand Greg Lake, listen carefully to that song. "From the Beginning" is something else. It's a masterpiece. But you'd better know your business on the guitar.
@@PhillipLandmeier have you ever heard of John Wetton?
@@tose917 Of course.
There are plenty of working pro keyboardists that are *capable* of playing "Karn." *Writing* it is a whole 'nother thing. :)
What a Gem!
What a treat to have seen this live.
Great clip! I see Mark Wood on the left corner and Y. Kim the keyboardist on the back. R.I.P. Greg Lake
I consider this a great christmas gift! Thanks for sharing.
My heroes dying but their Show is going on.....
The show that never ends...
Our lives fade away from us but the music never dies. Crank it up on your way to work tomorrow & drive safe.
Overtime Freak. Yes. You're so right, old chap. We'll said.
Fantastic!
Greg Lake still rocks! RIP!
Very nice.... LOVED ELP... RIP Greg and Keith
he was so greatttttttttt, his voice here is in perfect state, amazingggggggggggggggggggg
That was the best performance of that tune since the 1974 triple live album. Fantastic.
You know you know you know RIP Greg Merry christmas
Got to work as a stagehand for a TSO gig, biggest goddamed stage setup I've ever seen in my life
RIP Greg Lake. Another great one gone.
Awesome ! period
Love Greg lake!
FOREVER ELP !!
RIP Greg and Keith
The man who ORIGINALLY conceived of ELP working with an orchestra!
Vallin Sfas that was Emerson my dude
Beach Doggo and almost broke up the band in the process...
I like this song great rock and roll 🎸🎹🎶🎤🎻
O yes and we did need Keith Emerson to create this music , Tarkus his pianoconcerto and so on ...........
You were a dynamo, dear old Greg. 😘
It's so sad that he died
and keith emerson
And John Wetton.
fantastic
Just heard Paul O'Neill passed today, RIP Paul.
Kissguy1973: thanks.
Is that a drum kit back there, or a small city?
Yes
Nice!!!!
Husa Voice never change.
The keyboard player left hand could not cope with the right one, so it did nothing. Hélio, Keith?
Lol, the other keyboardist, the talented chick, was playing most of the chord changes.
Yeah Keith is a hard act to follow. Complete hand independence. He used to play bass lines on the one minimoog he had stretched out on the other side while jamming on that organ. Where he got time to juggle patches much less patch cords on the monster moog is even harder. Even with some hard wired presets, that thing is a beast that was never intended to leave a studio. Three amazing musicians!
I like the Santana style on the keyboard
Also me display of talent
So it took 10 (from what I could count) and what sounded like a backing track to do what a 3 piece band did waaaay better. Not even close. At least Palmer is still with us and preforming.
where is the rest of this concert?
Love that the keyboard player played the solo like Keith Emerson.
Sadly it took the lighting man to alert him he’d repeated the last riff one to many times and was in the process of burying the start of Lake’s guitar solo.
To the keyboardist on the side of the stage...don't worry, hardly anybody noticed.
Stunning performer from Keyboard player, rider on the Original score...¡¡¡ YEAH...
And i know Adagio used glasses in a comic.
Geez kybrdist screws up the solo ending !
this keyboardist was soloing in the sound of orgon and he missed the time of the song when the girl entered with the synthesizer at the right time. it's a sucker
Too many the words without the music
nice rework...added even more metal...lol
The keyboard player on the right played too long and overlapped Lake's guitar solo. All these "musicians" and they still can't get it right---like the original three, called ELP.
Saw and heard that, too.
Having seen ELP live thrice, and having performed this piece many times, this was disappointing.
Rest in peace Greg Keith and cozy
His voice got better with age
