    "Sounds like the Beatles." Interesting that you said that, because reportedly John Lennon once said, "If you want to know what the Beatles would have sounded like had they stayed to gather, listen to ELO."

      Jeff Lynne actually was producer on the Beatles songs released in the 90's, Free as a Bird and Real Love. I also believe he was producer on the Beatles Anthology album.

    I have contended for a few decades, that if not for the Beatles, ELO would have been them, stature-wise. Their catalogue is remarkable. Jeff Lynne is a genius. He was part of the Traveling Wilburys, along with Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, George Harrison, & Bob Dylan. My opinion....ELO is still one of the most underrated bands of all time, even though they met with great success.

    • @nealm6764
      @nealm6764 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      If it were not for the Beatles ELO would never have come up with this. They straight up stole this sound from them, and George Martin helped them do it.
      There are innovators and pioneers and then comes the copy cats.

      @CB-xr1eg 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      "I have contended for a few decades, that if not for the Beatles, ELO would have been them,"
      Absolute nonsense, ELO were inspired by The Beatles and as the comment below says, they stole from them. So "if not for The Beatles", ELO would not even have existed. The same goes for a lot of pop bands. The Beatles started it all in the early 60s.

    Love this song! ELO had their biggest hits in the 70's-80's & mixed modern rock pop songs with classical overtones. Jeff Lynne wrote most of their songs. They had a lot of great hits such as "Roll Over Beethoven", "Showdown", "Telephone Line", "Can't Get It Out Of My Head", "Evil Woman", "Strange Magic", "Livin' Thing", "Do Ya", "Rockaria!", "Turn To Stone", "Sweet Talkin' Woman", "Wild West Hero", "Don't Bring Me Down", "Shine A Little Love", "Confusion", "Hold On Tight", "Twilight" etc.

    • @Cosmo-Kramer
      @Cosmo-Kramer 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@barsandbarbells2022 When you react to, *"Telephone Line",* (or any other ELO song), just react to the audio of the studio album cut, not promo videos (like this), as they often shorten the songs, which they did with this one. You don't need to react to visuals, just throw a photo of the album cover up on the screen and focus on listening to the music. These promo videos from the pre-MTV era are just distracting to the aural experience. When we grew up with these classic songs in the '70s (and before), we didn't see these low-budget promo videos, we just listened to the music on our record players, cassette decks, and radios. After, *"Telephone Line",* I recommend another great song from that same album, the opening track, *"Tightrope".* It is the quintessential ELO song.

    Jeff Lynn, the vocalist and leader of ELO later became a music producer. By the late 80s he was working with many artists including Tom Petty, and George Harrison (Beatle). They were in close proximity one week when George was in town to record a track or two, and George, Tom, Jeff, called their other friends nearby for instruments and a home studio, so they all went to Bob Dylan's LA house and hung out with him and ROY ORBISON. A supergroup was formed for a couple albums with the name TRAVELING WILBURYS. (Handle with care, End of the line) at the turn of the late 80s. (89) Roy died during the video shooting from congestive heart failure, He helped pioneer rock with Elvis and Johnny Cash, and Carl Perkins.

    This song opens The Guardians of the Galaxy, Volume 2, so if you decide to start watching the Marvel movies, it's only 15 movies before you get to hear it again.
    Sorta', kinda' kidding, but if you do start the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe), whether it's on the channel or in private life, here's the law:
    1: Stan Lee makes a cameo in every movie. ALL HAIL STAN LEE.
    2: Release order only, because every one has one or two mid / credit, after / credit scenes.
    3: Every one has one or two mid / credit, after / credit scenes.
    4: Although some would disagree, there are some who throw shade at "The Incredible Hulk" & "Thor: Dark World" for not being "as good" as the others, etc.
    Ignore them. These each stand on their own as excellent movies. "DO NOT FEED THE TROLLS".

    ELO,s best in my opinion is a early B side to Livin thing . its called Fire On High its very spooky like Hallowen , its a instrumental tune drumming is incredible ,very much worth a listen

      I second this. There is a bit of an 'easter egg' in that one.

    Jeff Lynne and Roger Taylor from Duran Duran both lived in Shard End in Birmingham, but only Jeff Lynne mentions it in one of his songs

    I expected to see more smiles!! This song is a guaranteed bad mood fixer upper. For their heavy radio plays, check out "Don't Bring Me Down", "Turn to Stone", "Telephone Line", and "Evil Woman"

    Jeff Lynne and ELO were OFTEN knocked by critics for being derivative of The Beatles. But they're different enough and a ton of fun in their own right. Personally, I love Tight Rope, Turn to Stone, Sweet Talkin' Woman....oh, hell, a whole lot of tracks!

    It's a charming song, impossible not to like, but I feel contextualised darkly it can also remind me of a Ren & Stimpy cartoon where Ren suffers the replaying of a 'happy song'....Ren & Stimpy fans only.

    Jeff looks so strange without sunglasses.
    "Evil Woman" and "Don't Bring Me Down" are huge ELO songs. Both are written about Jeff's ex who did him dirty.

    They have some Beatles influence, but they are much more than just a Beatles clone. They are great in their own right, the songwriting is of the highest caliber, and for pure fun and happiness I would choose ELO over the Beatles any day.
    Check out some of the Wembley concert from 2017 some time, it's fantastic. The whole audience is smiling, dancing, singing along... that's what ELO brings.

    Just like Bohemian Rhapsody, everyone in the UK can sing this word for word.
