  • We arrived in what is called the Gateway to the Andes, the region of Salta and Jujuy. And we are blown away by the scenery we see every single day.
    First stop is Salta, where we take care about the Landy, we really need to change the oils of our engine and also axles. Guess what?! we had water in our rear diff. Great that we changed it after sinking the car in Corrientes, Argentina.
    We use the time to visit the city and admire the colonial arquitecture, and also learn about the Incas and the Capacocha ritual in the MAAM (Museo de Arqueología de alta Montaña).
    From here we are moving north, and also higher in altitude, to explore the province of Jujuy. We are blown away by the colorful mountains and the many many huge cacti we see on every mountain.
    From Purmamarca, to Quebrada de las Señoritas, to Hornocal at 4350m above sea level and passing through beautiful towns like Huamahuaca and Tilcara. Spectacular!
    Even though the region is touristy we are able to find hind valley with literally no one and enjoy stunning views at sunset. We start to feel the altitude as we are climbing with our Land Rover over 4000m!
    Our last spot is the Lipan pass. We are going for a new crazy adventure. But more in the next episode!
    Enjoy the Ride!

      Spot on! This is something we often think about. And we don't have any answer to. We have an added problem, we both have friends and family in both Spain and Germany... We really don't know where to start when we are back, and what that "back" looks like. Any suggestions from others in our situation maybe could help! But yeah, again, 100% spot on! Thank you so much for following along and taking the time to comment!

    Those mountains and valleys are incredible.
    So interesting to see all those cacti!
    Things look very dry in that region but that's what also makes it so beautiful.
    I hope Bluelandy is doing well with the oil changes - looks like some water got into those axles, for sure.
    Hope all three of you are coping with the higher altitudes.
    I know that the headaches can become bad sometimes - take care!!

      This region is espectacular! We understand why many Argentinians insisted in us visiting it ! It is indeed very dry, and harsh but nothing comparing to the next adventure, wait for it! The bluelandy is doing good but we need to keep an eye on that rear diff, that gets water. The altitude... Well in the next adventure it's even crazier, but one needs to really take care to don't get altitude sickness! Stay tunned 😎

    The largest and highest plateau in the world is the Tibetan Plateau. It stretches approximately 1,000 kilometres (620 miles) north to south and 2,500 kilometres (1,600 miles) east to west. It is the world’s highest and largest plateau, with an area of 2,500,000 square kilometres (970,000 square miles). With an average elevation exceeding 4,500 metres (14,800 feet) and being surrounded by imposing mountain ranges that harbor the world’s two highest summits, Mount Everest and K2, the Tibetan Plateau is often referred to as “the Roof of the World”.

    Many times it's not just the altitude that makes you feel unwell. Locals refer to a weather condition as "puna," which for some reason causes headaches, makes you feel tired, and everything you eat upsets your stomach. We carry always big cans of Oxigen.

    I really enjoy your videos, but just a small comment about local guides. I am not familiar with the location in your video, but I have some experience with conservation in South America. When parks or nature reserves are created, local people often lose access to resources such as firewood, hunting, trapping, and wild plants. It general, it is good to provide employment so that the local people benefit directly from conservation. Also, while I am sure you would not get lost or remove cacti, other tourists might be different. Stealing rare cacti is a big problem throughout the Americas. I am birding in Chile these days and I think you would like it here. Good luck with your trip!

    • @Thebluelandy

      I understand your point 100%! In this particular case I cannot see this happening to the people of this specific town. But for sure it's not the first time that someone has written their name on the stone (graffiti) . I can understand some level of control and therefore payed service is required, I don't believe a guide to police you is the way to go, but don't have an alternative solution that would work here.
      And regarding Chile, I think we are going to like it, but we are afraid of the many paywalls after enjoying a much more relaxed and subsidized Argentina!

      Hey, we started off with 5W30, since the Middle East we went to 5W40 to cover the high temperatures same in Africa . And now I believe we’re back at 5W30.
      We try to only get known brands (Fuchs, Castrol, petronas…) but sticking with one brand would be really difficult. Therefore we take what’s available.

    Stunning landscapes, especially the colours! How does your engine cope with the altitude? My Td5 often blows thick black clouds each time I'm above 2000 metres. 2800 m was the highest I've been with it yet. Did you have to adapt it somehow or reprogram anything?

    • @Thebluelandy

      Hey thanks for watching, I like the TD5 it Handels the altitude quite well but a both 4000m is significantly down on power.
      No, the engine is basically stock, I only closed the EGR to Handel the high sulfur fuel better.
      We didn’t map it it’s too risky on a journey like this, don’t want to blow manifold bolts, or crack the head.

    • @Thebluelandy

      Hey, thanks to the feedback, this is shocking to us. Since November TH-cam changed its advertising policy, they are no longer allowing us to control the amount of ads that appear in the video (we put the minimum before). We can only say monetized on not. No monetized doesn’t mean no advertisements for you. But it means that we receive nothing. And we actively decided against partnering with brands, to not put more advertising in the video, like: “this video is sponsored (or spoiled) by…”
      Every video is over 20h editing + 12$ for software and a lot of investment for gear and a lot of time filming.
      If the ads get too much, TH-cam premium is the only way out, sadly.
