      TM2 Cheetor was terrible. I always thought it was the worst version of him and the toy is even worse as it's about as articulate as a G1 Transformer. The cannon on his back is also designed to be removable and has a handle so he can hold it except the way his hands are designed he can't actually hold anything so it's best to leave that gun on his back.
      Also you kept referring to Transmutate as a "him", she is female. The design of the character was intended to be "vaguely female" and she was voiced by Susan Blu. What made you think that she was a dude?
      As for Beast Machines. I actually liked the show almost as much as Beast Wars but it really needed a third season to really be on par with Beast Wars. You should really rewatch the whole series.
      I guess there's not going to be a 5 worst episodes list because there really aren't any bad episodes.

    God, I cried when I first saw "Code of Hero". I still get a little teary eye when I see the end of the episode. I was surprised that it wasn't number one but I respect your choice for the number 1. I think Beast Machines is worth a re-watch seeing that is was the end of the series. It's full of mystery, twists, and references from the original Transformers T.V. show that it's worth the watch. I enjoy it. Sure the opening them is simple but it shows off what the show is about.

    Dinobot = one of the best animated characters of all time.
    Transmutate always freaked me out as a kid, just look at that monster! But it was always a memorable episode. But Code Of Hero comes out on top, such an emotional end for a character I was very attached to.
    And Beast Machines? We don't talk about Beast Machines...

  • @lotuswraith

    Beast Machines was sorta hit and miss compared to Beast Wars: It had some neat ideas although maybe not the best execution
    Great list though Walter

    • @HalfDemonInuyasha
      @HalfDemonInuyasha 7 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      I think the main problem with Beast Machines was some huge character shifts like Optimus (becoming a fanatic to his "mission" from the Oracle, at least until after the whole Key of Vector Sigma and Plasma Energy Chamber debacle), Megatron (the whole blaming of his beast mode for losing the Beast Wars, and so wanting to get rid of it, along with his sudden honor at times despite despising the idea normally), Rhinox (the whole supporting of Megatron's ideals coming out of nowhere), or Silverbolt (who became an asshole after coming back despite showing his original personality earlier).
      And I guess the whole attempt at zen transforming rather than the typical transforming was really weird and jarring along with the idea that the Beast Wars were somehow predestined to occur just to have Optimus and the others bring "balance" to Cybertron between organic and technology / "technorganic" for SOME reason that was never truly explained.

    • @DarkKnightofAnime
      @DarkKnightofAnime 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      HalfDemonInuyasha I agree with what you say on the character shifts but in rhinox's case you could argue it was his machine form eating away at his common sense even after they saved him but ya I can still see where your coming from with everything else

    • @Knight41b
      @Knight41b 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In the Rhinox case, I think it might because of his temporary change into a Predicon in Beast Wars. I guess that reprogramming never went away.

    • @HalfDemonInuyasha
      @HalfDemonInuyasha 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sadly, the fact that we can only speculate about such big points is another reason for some problems - lack of explanation for things.

    • @Eriol244
      @Eriol244 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree with most of what you say here, but I would focus even more on Rhinox, though not necessarily in the way you mean.
      They should never have ditched him from the team, because he offered a "2nd in command" that was the spiritualist (team mystic as some of the bonus material said in the BW DVDs) but still very grounded. Giving that role + fanatic to Optimus made the character much worse IMO, when they could have kept it split, and been the better for it. Cheetor as 2nd in command worked OK, but not good enough.
      There were other problems with the make-up of the group, but that was the one that broke it IMO. It was all about either Optimus's "mission", Rattrap whining (way too much of this), or (eventually) Black Arachnia pining for her lost lover, only for that to blow up in her face. They needed somebody who would keep them centered, and that was Rhinox.
      Also, the one thing that dis-engaged me the most was the "Rattrap Defend megatron" episode. No, being honest and keeping your word is NOT more important than destroying the Genocidal maniac. As Sisko CORRECTLY decided in "In the Pale Moonlight" of DS9, one person's self-respect is a bargain for saving part of the galaxy from oppression. That one episode alone is enough reason to say the whole series lost its way.

    Im sorry but i perefer this over any transformers show or movie...sue me.
    p.s. - the biggest reason (for me) was content. TF Prime was created to establish a new and fresh look to the franchise with smart stories and better visuals to appeal to new and old viewers. Meanwhile Beast Wars adds and expands on pre existing lore from the g1 era, that older fans would enjoy for their "nostalgia"while newer fans would be introduced to "newer" characters and new stories focusing on cause and effect with time and space. Plus cant argue that i loved Code of Hero (not many shows give the "blaze of glory" to many characters, especialy moraly ambiguous characters with stuborn attitudes) and it was a victime of its time for visuals.
    p.p.s.: Ever consider doing Reboot the tv series? i rather enjoyed it (mostly season 3). Or mabye Shadow Raiders?

    Beast Machines as a direct sequel to Beast Wars is... a little disjointed honestly. It picks up from it in a good way, but the new story just seems so out-of-the-loop. We're not given a distinct reason as to why Megatron hates all organic material, since the organic is essentially what made him what he is now, and it makes it hard to relate to his ideals of wanting a "purified Cybertron," purging all the organic life from it.
    The character designs are... odd. Not necessarily bad, just odd. I get they were trying to differentiate the two despite being the same storyline, but some of them were downright ugly. Still, their powers remained relatively consistent throughout, but some of these characters had such a hit to their power, they became virtually worthless in the heat of battle. On that note, poor Rattrap. Pretty sure noone could ever say "shut up Rattrap" to him again with a straight face after the nerf he received.
    However, individual characters' developments definitely soared in this one with the smaller dedicated cast. Optimus basically becomes the old soul who is sick of fighting and is looking to create a balance in the world. Cheetor is maturing into an "adult," I suppose, showing more tact and realization of his limits as the series progresses. BlackArachnia becomes obsessed in finding the love of her life, whom has become a fallen hero of sorts, and they both have to try to recover the remnants of their relationship.
    Even the villains' personalities were interesting, if not a bit dry. And the... "cameos" for the villains, if you call it that, are quite humorous, not to mention they do further the plot points. Overall, the series was not terrible as a continuation, but it definitely had a load of flaws. I'd still recommend it be watched, but don't expect the same level of amazing showmanship as Beast Wars.

    I feel Beast Machines is absolutely worth trying again. The redesigns of the Maximals took a little getting used to, but once you do, the story is REALLY solid. The mystery of the Vehicons is legit shocking, and especially the episode "The Weak Component" is a Rattrap episode that I promise is right up there with "Transmutate" and "Code Of Hero".

      wampastompa1 It's definitely a series that was a lot better on reflection than when it was first aired, especially considering how many of the main cast were treated and overhauled, especially Rhinox. But taken on its own, I've found the show to be a nice little intro to philosophy and environmentalism without being too preachy, a rarity for a kids show.

      Yeah, when it was airing I hated it, but when I came back to it many years later after a random rewatch of Beast Wars, I found I actually couldn't put it down. It was by no means perfect, and I still wouldn't say it's comparable to Beast Wars, but it's definitely worth a watch.

    • @Blazieth
      @Blazieth 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly, Rattrap's characterization makes a lot of sense to me. In Beast Wars, he's a spy, infiltrator, demolitionist. He once said, and I quote: "I feel naked without my gun..." He's a down-to-earth, no-nonsense results man. He's not in it for some spiritual satisfaction, he wants to get results, and go home. Now, he's trapped in beast mode, and is forced to delve into this spiritual nonsense just to transform, a concept he understandably has trouble with. He just wants to say Maximize and get it over with, but NO, he has to find his center, and all that... Ugh. And then, once he finally pulls THAT off... HE HAS NO WEAPONS. None! He can't fight back! No wonder he's turned into a coward!
      But he takes what he DOES have, and adapts, learning to become invaluable despite his new body's handicaps. And what's more, he even eventually takes on a role similar to his old buddy Rhinox's old role of team mechanic/inventor. And considering how he clashes with Botanica when she first shows up... it almost reminds one of how he would fight with Dinobot, in a way. With that in mind, is it any wonder the two of them became close?

    Both Code of the Hero and Transmutate were my favourite episodes too.
    Oddly enough, my favourite scene in Code of the Hero was the final scene with the proto-human recovering the stone club that Dinobot used to defeat Megatron. The proto-human realising what the weapon can do and raising it in the air in triumph really ends that episode well. Dinobot not only saved humanity, he also helped it evolve.
    And Transmutate's ending scene was great too. Rampage was an uncaring monster, who has freely admitted that to have eaten other transformers. He only ever showed any form of compassion once, with Transmutate. Rampage's clear grief over the death of the only friend he ever had was actually quite compelling.

    Beast machine is admittedly not as good as beast wars but I do think it's worth a second visit. Cast not as big, characters not a lot like themselves during beast wars, models not as cool or pretty and the background can get bland many times. But it can get philosophical which is not bad, the action is fluid and fast pace, the stakes and struggles are even bigger for the maximals, and while I did say the models are not as cool, the villains however are pretty awesome actually. Overal, while beast machine is not for everybody and will never be as good or memorable as beast wars, I think it's worth a second visit and may even like for a second look.

    Beast Wars was an awesome cartoon. I think the best episode of Beast Wars was "Code of Hero". "Code of Hero" was the saddest episode of the series because it saw the tragic demise of Dinobot. The former Predacon turned Autobot making a fateful choice and sacrificing his life to save the future of humanity. He was a real hero.

    Beast machines was worth watching for the ultimate wrap up of the "beast" series. It took all the character's archs and finished them off. By no means was it as good as beast wars but it was fun to see them go home and finally defeat megaton.

    Beast machines has a different tone and takes the characters in different arcs. Optimus becomes more of a mentor and is more concerned with learning the purpose of their new forms. Cheetor steps up to become team leader and learns what it takes to be a leader. Silver bolt tries to overcome the sins of his past and must learn to forgive himself before he can help anyone else. Other characters go through drastic changes as well, some questionable, others fascinating.

    Transmutate is a SHE, though in the show they only refer to her as 'it'. Evidence to support the She: Script refers to Transmutate as she and her, voiced by Susan Blu (voice of Arcee), and less effectively, the newer timelines toy, which is a recolor of Prime Arcee, and also one of my favorite toys.

      @RialVestro 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Nope before that, we need to reboot the entire movie Franchise. I don't want Micheal Bay directing Beast Wars. It's bad enough he's directing Transformers at all, if he ruins Beast Wars, that's it I'm done!

    • @KaijuKitty
      @KaijuKitty 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      RialVestro Bay is actually done making Transformers movies now. The new one in theaters is his last one.

    • @RialVestro
      @RialVestro 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      gojiguyver3, first of all Bay also said he was done with this franchise after Dark of the Moon. There was an interview with him after that movie where he said he killed off the Decepticons because he wanted that to be the last movie and if a new movie were to come out someone else would have to reboot it... then after that we got Age of Extinctinction. Don't trust anything Micheal Bay says the man is known to be a liar.
      Secondly, we already know for a fact that there are two more movies coming out after the Last Knight. Plus for some reason a totally unnecessary spin off movie staring Bumblebee which is really dumb because 2007 was already a Bumblebee focused movie. So no The Last Knight is not Micheal Bay's last movie. I wish it was, I wish they would pull the plug on this shit and reboot the universe, but they already have plans for multiple Transformers films going further into this Micheal Bay universe.
      Finally, even if Micheal Bay does leave the franchise since we know they're not rebooting it, it's still not going to fix anything because his influence is already a part of this universe. The only way to fix that is to start over.

    Beast Machines isn't as good as Beast Wars, but it does have some interesting story elements. The initial story line of having lost their memories, lost their transmetal bodies, why they can't transform, etc. It was a fun journey watching them find out what happened after Beast Wars ended.

    I think Beast Machines improved with each viewing. It had a lot of ambitions and was designed to play out like a movie would. Mike Scott to be honest beast machines is a good show if we completely ignore beast wars for what it is its good but it shouldn't be a sequel to beast wars the sudden changes of characters from beast wars in beast machines is prominently felt which often does hinder certain aspects of it being a good sequel to beast wars and it definitely brought intereting concepts with it and some bad things too but overall it shouldn't of been a beast wars sequel... Although I do wish we had gotten transtech the sequel to beast machines cause man did it look interesting and I loved that TFCC did use it in their comics

      It strayed too far from what people like about Transformers. I wasn't put off with the whole organic core thing. I think it was implied in the G1 series that Cybertron may have been organic at one time. But the cgi and character designs were horrible. It made too many changes to the characters. You could tell that Hasbro was tapped out of ideas. Japan didn't even bother to make spin off shows the way they did for Beast Wars. They went from Beast Wars II, to Beast Wars Neo, right to Car Robots.

      That's called nostalgia vision. They looked good back in the 90's because it was one of the first shows to use CGI and we didn't know any better because there was nothing else to compare it to at the time. As CGI has gotten better over the years it now looks like shit. I've rewatched the series many times and while I still love the story and characters... in fact I actually tend to find new things about it I love that I didn't even notice the first time, but that animation does not hold up today. I would love to see the series remade with updated graphics.

    • @bigtoblerone8446

      Yeah CGI ages WAY more horribly than traditional animation techniques. Just look at 'Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind' (1984), compared to 'Toy Story' (1995). While Nausicaa looks like it could have been made right behind The Wind Rises, Toy Story looks fucking ancient! xD
      Same goes for Shrek or another CGI film made in the early 00's

    When I was growing up, I had this faint memory of a transformer holding up a police car and asking it to transform, only for a cop to demand that it put his cruiser down, this ignited my love of tranformers. Beast Wars was my first true memory of any transformers with a lot of clarity. It is my favorite series, and while I agree that Code of Hero should have been Number 1, I would have honestly put the opener to Season 2 on this list as well. It kicked off a number of story lines, among other things. Another one of my tops is the episodes which killed off Tigatron and Airrazor. That was another heartfelt moment in the show to me. This list is very good, and I can see all those good points you gave. Thank you good sir, and I hope to see a top 5 of the other Transformers shows we've had, like RID from 2001, or even the original 80's show.
