I have a soft spot for Twilight Princess. Something about the enemy design, darker tone, and nostalgia really stuck with me. The Darknuts in Twilight Princess remain one of my favorite enemies in Zelda games.
Besides BotW, TP is my favorite. It's everything that made OoT great plus so much more. That being said, that long, tedious ass beginning section makes me reluctant to go back to it. Once you get past that though, everything about it is hands down better than all others (except BotW of course)
I thought Twilight Princess was a healthy balance between dark and gritty as well as a fun adventure. It felt like a proper continuance to the Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask formula.
Fun fact/theory for Wind Waker: Wind Waker link might be the only Link to break the cycle as he wasn't a chosen hero. He wasn't born the hero he earned it by repairing the master sword and reassembling the triforce of courage.
Nah he’s still the chosen hero, every hero is given some crazy ordeal before he can fight off Ganon/Demise. He only needed to repair the sword because Ganon killed the 2 sages that kept its power
Twilight Princess may be my favorite, but wind waker will always hold a special place in my heart for being the first Zelda game I ever beat. Seriously, Nintendo, re-release wind waker and twilight princess on the switch!
Almost all of them are 8s or 9s imo, just 1 to 2 that are true 10/10. Then again, I think game review scales are terrible and 8s and 9s are handed out too often..
@@ArkSucksAtGames I don't agree, the game isn't always about resolution or fps, if those are higher it makes the game funner but for Ocarina of time i can play it without giving a damn about that stuff, and this is coming from a guy that didn't like pokemon legends arceus for the same reason lol. I also love majoras mask but as much as a masterpiece it is i think some of the gameplay mechanics are frustrating.
@@amandahugginkiss9119 I’ve played my uncle’s copy a bit and I liked it a lot, but I wasn’t able to finish it due to my grandma moving. Would love to play it again someday
@@Arachnewhat for some reason it kinda gives me a similar vibe as skyward sword does. To me twilight princess is the most “zelda” Zelda game, if you get what I mean
Spirit tracks has a place in my heart. I don't know if it is the character design, the plot, or even the train trips, it has something that makes it the best zelda game I've ever played and the first one I beat.
It's not my favorite Zelda game, but it is really special and has it's own place in my heart, too. The setting, the travel mechanic and the side missions. Everything is so lovely!
I. Love. Spirit Tracks. And I haven't even passed through the first dungeon because I dunno how to use a sword! (Emulator, heh) I think if a game you've basically never played is one of your favourite games of all time, it's a good game. Also, THE MUSIC. I love the music.
I honestly liked phantom hourglass a lot more than spirit tracks. I played it first and it always stuck out as more original than spirit tracks. I really liked the temple of the ocean king, and the overall creation of the phantom sword. ( finally beating able to kill the phantoms is one of the most satisfying things in any zelda game.) That being said, Byrne is still one of my second favorite character in the entire franchise. What’s more is his awesome design and interesting developments.
i haven't played Twilight Princess in a while but i remember the boss battles being difficult and challenging for me in a really fun way. I love skyward sword, it will always be my number 1, but the boss battles can feel very easy at times and the only thing holding them back from being a complete breeze is how the controls can go wonky sometimes (which is why i prefer the silent realms). Twilight Princess had a much darker tone and style, and an overall air of being more difficult than other Zelda games, and that's reflected in the boss fights which i really appreciate! The water dungeon always gives me so much pain though tbh like not even in the good way it's just frustrating to me idk why-
@@oakland7561 Funny you say that because I’d argue that Twilight Princess is quite literally the easiest 3D Zelda game. Enemies can’t touch you, typically do a quarter/half heart of damage and the dungeons + bosses are fairly straight forward.
i love twilight princess for it’s sense of adventure with the hyrule field music and just feeling like a badass in general but ocarina of time was the first zelda game i finished and it was so fun i beat it twice
OoT and Majora’s Mask are kinda like the video game equivalent of “A New Hope” and “The Empire Strikes Back” for me. I know the sequel is is the superior one in it’s medium but the first title made SUCH an impression on me (OoT, though not my first game, was the game that made me love video games) that I’d choke on my words if I tried to say any other title was my favorite.
Over the years, I've come back around to deciding that A New Hope is actually the better movie. Though I do think that Majora's Mask is better than Ocarina of Time.
@@JonSmith-hk1bq Like a New Hope, it might not have been the deepest written movie from its sequel, but it was the most ground braking for the time. Similar to OOT
@@JonSmith-hk1bq I'm about halfway through my first run of MM ever, and playing it immediately after having beaten OoT for the first time ever, and while I enjoyed OoT and was thoroughly impressed by nearly all the dungeons, MM is on another planet altogether. The game is essentially a completionist's dream come true. It's not lost on me that, with a nearly 2-year turnaround, the game producers rectified the density issue with OoT's overworld (relatively massive but sparse map, combined with a slow-moving Link) by shrinking the map in MM, but adding layers via the dimension of time to make this game feel so much more "full," if you will. While OoT had me arguing with myself about whether spending so much time playing an outdated game is worthwhile (your appreciation of your time is ever-increasing as you age), MM instead has me wishing I had more time in the day to devote to feverishly playing it. BOTW to me is far-and-away the best Zelda title of all time, but MM is right on its tail.
It’s always refreshing to see someone else’s takes on the Zelda games. Growing up, most fans got an earful of “OOT or MM is the best in the franchise and if you disagree you’re wrong.” But it’s really refreshing seeing love going into the other games like LTTP and Minish Cap! Also brownie points for putting Wind Waker, my all time favorite, at #2. Thanks for that!
Totally agree. I love MM and OoT but i recently replayed Link to the past and OoT and thought Oot was a great 3D version of the game but not as good. Link to the past is just so flawless especially for when it was made and has perfect balance from being less linear
Completely agree! It’s definitely nostalgia for me that gives it the top spot for me. I do at least 2 play throughs of the game every year and there’s no other game out there that I do that with other than aLttP
My top three are BOTW at 3, OoT at 2, and MM at 1. And I like Link Between Worlds the best of the 2D ones. Great list bro, I like that it was short and sweet and to the point
@@Perroden 100 percent agree, amazing open world but lack of dungeons. Shrines got boring and repetitive. There's nothing wrong with games being somewhat linear, ocarina of time and winwaker struck the balance of overworld and variety of dungeons
Twlight Princess is top 3 for me. I think giving it number 8 is a little high given what it brought to the Zelda franchise. The length of the game, the story and progression, the dungeons and boss fights, they are all massive advances in the Zelda franchise imo and its darker and more mature take to its story and game world was just SO well done. And i do not believe Botw deserves a number 1 spot. Its a great game, but I think ppl have blown it up way too much. Majoras Mask, OoT, and Twlight Princess all had more content, story, dungeons, items and side activities to do than botw did.
Looking online, the average time to 100% the games are as follows: Ocarina of Time: 37 hours Majora’s Mask: 31 hours Twilight Princess: 56 hours Breath of the Wild: 189 hours Considering BotW takes 3 times as long as the longest of the 3 you mentioned, I guess I’m confused on what you mean by those games have more content and side activities? There are SO MANY side quests, activities, and content to BotW it’s insane. Whether or not you agree with their ranking, it’s just facts!
Completion time doesn't mean anything if it's hollow. Of those 189 hours at least 100 are just to find the Korok seeds. And I really love botw for so many reasons, but the dungeons of TP, the creativity of SS and the story of OoT and MM is something that cannot be discussed.
Bless you for calling my name on this one, Will. That's a lot of history and a metric ton of nostalgia for me. It feels a bit blasphemous I've not gotten to Breath of the Wild yet, but I absolutely will. I can't say I've played...or even was aware of all these; only most. Of COURSE, there were more Tingle games...of course.
Skyward Sword was my first ever Zelda game Still to this day is the music, battle mechanics and story mesmerise me and I no matter how many times I play the game I've never gotten bored of it. The motion controls for me worked well and work even better in the remake so its truly a delight to play
Even if I disagree with the placement, this was still an amazing video. The way you treated the list as a casual critique and analysis with seamless transitions from one game to the next instead of a listicle format, is commendable.
Must say I was pleasantly surprised by the ranking of Spirit Tracks, I really enjoy that one and although it does have its flaws, I feel like it is a pretty good game. Also Zelda is one of the best companions in the series IMO. Also love Minish Cap, that was my entry point into this series and it's still so good.
Ocarina of time is greatest game of all time. And I didn’t even play it for first time until a few years ago on my old GameCube, and it held up amazingly
I play it on the Nintendo Switch Virtual Combat, and it isn’t good. First of all, the controls suck because they were designed to be like the N64 Controller you use to play, but it just ends up sucking worst than just playing with the N64 controller which is already a terrible controller to begin with. I also dislike the combat, the way Link moves is really weird and I hate how focusing blocks the top and bottoms of the screen. But it’s pretty good other than these things. Too bad the TERRIBLE controls make me so frustrated I don’t want to play.
Phantom hourglass and spirit tracks are easily the most underrated Zelda’s there two of my favorites and while I can see where the hate comes from with the games I still had so much fun playing both
Minish cap above Link's awakening and link between worlds above OoT??? Wind waker above MM???? Blasphemy! Wind Waker is insanely easy and so is Minish Cap. That loses those games major points in my book. I haven't played link between worlds, but to put it above OoT is nuts.
For me, it's a tie between Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, as they're my first Zelda games. I played them on the GameCube my grandma got from her sister (she bought TP elsewhere, but that's neither here nor there), and they're a deep part of my history, and always will be. And whenever I think of these games, I'll always think of my grandma
If you open your mind and get used to the mechanics, Triforce Heroes is actually decent, even in single player. I'd definitely put it higher than a short game like Four Swords.
I think the reason why a lot of people don’t like the game is because they had high expectations for it. I’m one of those people, reason being because four swords adventure was such a fun game. I think one of the worst things they did was getting rid of the fourth link. Imagine how much more creative the puzzles and bosses could’ve been with another Link
I would move some of the games around a bit and I’m not as much of a fan of Breath of the Wild since it lacks many traditional Zelda things like proper items and dungeons though it is still fun but wouldn’t be my personal number 1, but always nice to see someone’s list.
It was a good game but bad zelda game. Like rez 5 isn't a bad game but a terrible rez game. Music was bad, no dungeons, no real boss fights, no items to collect. And I'm not a fan of the sheika tablet thing.
yeah i share your opinion BotW is a good game but bottom 5 Zelda game (the 3 multiplayer ones and AoL being bottom 4 lol) my favourite Zelda is either Minish Cap, A Link to the Past or Links Awakening (Switch)
@@DrStabkill I’m hoping they completely get rid of shrines so it doesn’t dilute the enjoyment of an actual full dungeon. There definitely needs to be more and bigger dungeons in the sequel.
This is probably the closest I've ever agreedwith RabbidLuigi on one of these lists. My top-5 is in a slightly different order (Link B/t Words #1, then Wind Waker, BOTW, Link to the Past, Majora's Mask) but that's really just quibbling between where to put a group of 10/10 games.
a link between worlds is one of the most overrated, it replaced the expert dungeon design with an item rental system that just meant you would go in a dungeon realised you needed an item to finish it go grind for rupees then get the item. It's clearly a stepping stone to BotW's runes with because multiuse items that offered creativity. But honestly it did not work. Link turning into a painting did work however it just didn't get the expansion it needed with only a couple of bosses really taking advantage of that.
@@Roboshi2007 you need the item to even enter the dungeon. Just playing should give you plenty of rupees, so no grinding either. I also find the dungeon design better than in ALTTP. I can understand your point of painting form being underused though.
@@Roboshi2007 the game is absoloutely genius. The item rental system DID work perfectly and you even get to buy the items later on, and upgrade them even further. Letting you tackle the world in whatever way you want was executed perfectly. So no the game is not overrated, its just not for you
I've forgotten how chaotic Zelda game comment sections can get. That's what I love about Zelda is how much it explores different themes yet becomes consistent and classic games.
You'll see Ocarina of Time higher/highest on most personal lists than big channel lists. It still deserves it's recognition as one of "the greatest games of all time."
@@kidplaysgame3590 By saying this I am restraining to say that your name and pfp makes your opinion not valid, but everyone's got a different taste with games
I love the legend of Zelda series! I always seems to find so much greatness in most of the games from the 2d and 3d games. Everyone has their personal favorites but mine have to be a link to the past, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess and Minish Cap the most of the franchise. (Still haven't played BOTW yet so can't count that one unfortunately.)
Started playing BOTW not long ago. It's amazing of course but took me a while. The world is so open and huge it was overwhelming for a while. Prob put in around 200 hrs. and only got one beast. 😂
I've always loved Zelda II. If it had a better localization (same deal with Castlevania II) that made the clues and puzzles far less obtuse, it wouldn't have had as much of the blowback it got when it first came out (and that's carried over for over 30 years). 1. LttP 2. TP 3. OoT 4. MM 5. Z2 6. WW 7. LA 8. LoZ 9. BotW 10. MC
Twilight is a personal favourite of mine due to its amazing dungeons and puzzles as well as a really cool and fun combat engine. Breath of the wild isn’t as good as a Zelda game, but gosh is it a fantastic game that lets you do whatever the heck you want whenever the heck you want. Link between worlds got me hooked when I first got it with how pleasant of a surprise it was, and I’ve appreciated alttp a lot more once I started playing a bunch of randomisers of it(very addicting). And then obviously Ocarina and Majoras Mask are just special. I do prefer Ocarina and I think I also prefer the 3ds version of it, but both belong on any Zelda fan’s top 10. I will now add that I haven’t actually played wind waker or beaten skyward sword or Minish Cap, so my opinions could change in the future.
i loved wind waker. skyward sword is weird it feels like the transition between classic zelda formula and BOTW. minish cap i never played but i new someone who loved it haha.
But BotW is more similar to the first game then any other Zelda game. If anything BotW is more true to the “Zelda experience” then a lot of other Zelda games. There is more to Zelda then just dungeons
@@Indigo_1001 Due to the sheer quantity of games that follow a separate formula to the first game I would be more inclined to say that because that is what people are more familiar with it makes Botw less similar to what is considered a Zelda game now however you make a good point
Start with Wind Waker, its my fav after Oot. Skyward sword sucks (for me at least), the graphics are terrible, the control is bad, and its really linear.
@@juanmanuelvallejo3987 the graphics are stylized, never had problem with the controls and linear isnt a bad thing. But i would agree with you about repeating locations and backtracking if you said it, even though i dont mind it.
This is my list from all the games I've played in the series: 1. Breath of the Wild 2. Skyward Sword 3. The Minish Cap 4. Tears of the Kingdom 5. Age of Calamity 6. Majora's Mask 7. A Link to the Past 8. Link's Awakening 9. Ocarina of Time 10. The Legend of Zelda
you know as someone who has played, beaten and loved the DS games (and being the only Zelda games I've ever beaten and i have tried many times to beat other games like OoT and MM but those were too hard at the time with the Zelda Collection on Gamecube i owned) It's nice to see both get in the top 20. I was really scared both would be at the bottom but thankfully: there are worst games. and you know what: I'll take Hyrule Warriors above Spirit Tracks. ST is a great main line game but HW is just alot of fun and yes: I owned the 3DS version cause i didn't own a Wii U and i still had fun.
I've always loved windwaker. The thought of traveling the ocean, Ganons design, how you upgrade the sword, the Rito's connection to the Zora, almost everything else. Just wish Nintendo would put it on switch already.
I thought I loved Majora's Mask before. After playing many randomizers of it the past 2 years, I find that I now love it even more. The Legend of Zelda series lends itself incredibly well towards randomizers, but there's something about Majora's Mask randomization that is just incredible. I learned so many different movement options that I hadn't known before, and all the different side quests in MM being able to hold required items for progression is really fun. It also helps that the team behind the Majora's Mask randomizer has allowed for the community to implement their own music that can be randomized as well (the randomizer comes with some extra base music, but you can download way more from the MMR Discord that were uploaded by the community--it makes for a really enjoyable experience).
Huh, I genuinely think windwaker is harder than a lot of the other 3D Zelda games. Windwaker has the heaviest emphasis on using new abilities to explore previously unreachable places and some of the major upgrades for progression are locked behind series of puzzles that are harder than anything you would find in OOT, BOTW, and TP.
Personally, I believe that Majoras Mask is the best Zelda game. BOTW is a good game, but not a very good zelda game in my opinion. Majoras mask is just so filled to the brim with little secrets, dialogues and details that it just can't be topped in my opinion
Skyward Sword is so underrated in my opinion! But there are so many amazing games in the Zelda franchise that I don’t know how to pick a favourite! Tears of the kingdom is INCREDIBLE!! I still absolutely love OOT and Majoras Mask and Twilight Princess! And Wind Waker!!! I just wish we could get it on the switch!
wind waker is not only my favorite zelda game but my favorite game of all time in my eyes the game is absolutely perfect the story, the characters, the gameplay, the graphics, the soundtrack all perfect in my opinion even after playing breath of the wild wind waker remains my favorite of the bunch.
I thought Windwakers dungeons were too simple, and I really noticed they had cut a dungeon I felt like there weren't enough of them. But looking back: The moment you have that whole sea to yourself and can just explore, and all the little secrets, the art style that hasn't aged and will never age, the best told mainline Zelda story, It's just a magical game!
the charm of wind waker isnt necessarily the dungeons tho for me, it's the npcs on windfall island, imo it recapture the feeling of a mini majoras mask quite well, and they just have so much personality and it's interesting to figure out all the side quests they have. The dungeons are pretty great too though but i do agree there arent enough of them. but exploring the mini islands and solving their puzzles was great as well.
I gave you a thumbs up, but, I can't help to be critical. Everybody always complains about how in Breath of the Wild the weapons break, no dungeons, the Divine Beast were too easy, there wasn't enough story telling, can't explore underwater, the Blights were all the same and Ganon was way too easy to beat. But yet, it always seems to end up as number one. Don't get me wrong, I love it. Breath of the Wild is my top third pick, mostly because of the mechanics and the crap you can do to where it makes me want to play it over and over. And besides the weapons breaking at first, I never complained about the other stuff. Still, I enjoyed the video. ;)
Sonic Mania is a true contender for the #1 spot. But starting out which is truly the "Worst Sonic Game" is not only maddenning but also would involve the first half of the video trash-talking the Sonic franchise. xx
I think there's such a range on what someone's 'favourite' Sonic game is, that he'd have to spend the first half of the video explaining what an opinion is. XD
Literally feel like the only person that wouldnt put Breath of the Wild at the top I would put them underneath Majoras Mask and Wind Waker at the very least
I just realized that a lot of the most nostalgic Zelda games for me growing up - Four Swords Adventures, the Oracle games, Phantom Hourglass - are rather mid. Though, it's not like I haven't played a good Zelda game - Link to the Past, Wind Waker, Majora's Mask, and the others I mentioned above are still good in their own right. I guess I'll use the remaining time I have on this stump to implore Nintendo to PLEASE REMAKE THE ORACLE GAMES I WILL LITERALLY BUY A NEW SWITCH TO GET THOSE OMG
Seeing wind waker ranked so high makes me incredibly happy. I’ve played it since I was a kid and it’s my favourite not just for nostalgic reasons but it was a bold step from majora’s mask that I feel didn’t get the credit it deserved. Toon link is a fucking badass
Wind Waker has been my favourite Zelda game ever since I first played it back in the late 2000s, but I've recently completed a second play through of BOTW and I simply have to move that to the top. Phenomenal game from start to finish.
I've always loved Link's Awakening and Twilight Princess for their darker stories and amazing dungeons. But Breath of the wild was an amazing experience. The exploration, the combat, and the story were all amazing. I think Breath of the Wild perfectly nails the post-apocalyptic theme. Instead of a few survivors trying to save the human race like other games of the same theme does, several towns of people are just trying to make their way in the world. It isn't scary or violent. It's just quiet. I think the music perfectly captures that as well.
This is the only reason why I subscribed to you and that other guy because the Zelda games are just amazing masterpieces, your Zelda videos are just awesome and amazing!!!
I get why some people but breath of the wild as number one but personally I could never. So many great adventures that I’ve had more memories from. Twilight Princess and Majoras mask make a close tie as my favorite
my favorite Zelda game is Skyward Sword. The art style is just so bright and vibrant, i absolutely adore the final boss battle with the lightning and Demise's curse setting up the rest of the series, and the gameplay especially in HD is so good, even if the motion controls on the Wii can be a bit wonky at times. It's one of the first video games i ever played and i think i'm a little biased but me and my dad were there right when it came out and he let me do all the easier missions flying around on the bird while he did the boss fights for me. The silent realms are probably my favorite part though, aside from the flying mechanics of the bird (i have a soft spot for that), because it turns an otherwise upbeat high-stakes adventure game into a surprisingly visually beautiful survival horror with amazing music that really makes you feel the terror of the trials. I also feel like Link and Zelda are characterized very well in that game, I love their dynamic it just feels very sweet and human in that game the way I don't get with my other favorite games, excluding BOTW because BOTW is just objectively the Best.
Glad you came into my recommendation through my recent Zelda streak. Instantly recognized the name, I used to watch the shit out of your channel back in my old TH-cam days. Good to see you keeping up the good work, cheers
I have missed the rabbidluigi Zelda videos, they were what made me first subscribe to your channel and binge your videos back in 2014. The fast pacing of this video is a welcomed change. Out of all of the games that I have played, my ranking is: 1. The Wind Waker 2. Majora's Mask 3. Ocarina of Time 4. Twilight Princess 5. Skyward Sword 6. The Minish Cap 7. A Link Between Worlds 8. Spirit Tracks 9. Link's Awakening 10. A Link to the Past 11. Phantom Hourglass 12. TriForce Heroes 13. Breath of the Wild 14. Oracle of Ages 15. The Legend of Zelda 16. Age of Calamity Demo (lol) 17. Zelda 2 There is a big gap between 10th and 11th place, and another one between 13th and 14th I guess. I do consider Ocarina of Time to be the best game ever made, although it's not my personal favourite, but recently I've noticed some parts of Wind Waker that I really don't like. Chances are OoT might claim that #1 spot one day, though I love Majora's Mask way too much for that to happen. I still haven't gotten over the fact that people like BotW so much and most importantly, that its style is the future of Zelda, so I cannot say that I'm looking forward to the new game at all. At least I'll always have the old ones to replay.
I swear the first Rabbidluigi video I ever saw was either his list of best Zelda Dungeons or best Zelda Items in summer of 2013! Feels weird knowing we've come so far from then!
Curious as to why you don't like BotW that much. I largely agree with the rest of this list, for those that I've played, but I really don't understand that one being so low. I mean, sure, it's not everyone's perfect cup of tea, but I don't know anyone who wouldn't put it in their top ten. And "haven't gotten over the fact that people like it so much"? Does the fact that people like it _lower_ your opinion of it? Genuinely curious, not looking to bash or argue or anything, if you don't mind answering.
I see you didn't care about Age of Calamity. How dare you put Oracle of Ages and Breath of the Wild this low. Why the hell did you put it that low? It's not like Breath of the Wild was game of the year in 2017, oh wait.
I’m usually all for respecting opinions, but holy hell, putting Triforce Heroes and Phantom Hourglass above BotW or them even that close together is a crime not even Hylia can forgive.
It never felt like I was progressing I hate being given all your items from the start with nothing else to strive for. Atleast albw you could upgrade and find some stuff in the dark world dungeons. Also your sword didn’t explode and force you to forage for more weapons
I wouldn't have put BotW at the top, maybe around 5 or 6. The thing that bugs me with BotW is that it is so different from what we have come to expect from the series. Some love that, and I get it but to me I'd have rather it have some of those classic style dungeons, similar to how Elden Ring has areas that play just like the more linear areas from Dark Souls. I'm hoping the sequel does do this. I'm sure I'll enjoy it either way, but I am craving some of those puzzle box style dungeons.
If Zelda had never incorporated a large change of any sort, then we wouldn't have an OoT, MM, Wind Waker, or even many things that weren't in the original games but later onwards became synonymous with the franchise.
@@cubicalprobably I understand your point but all of those games in particular still featured the most fundamental elements of a Zelda game, many of which were missing from BOTW. I totally get what the OP is saying, because while I think BOTW is a great open world game, it will never be in my top Zelda games overall, because it just doesn't feel like a Zelda game to me. If the sequel brings back those missing elements while still retaining the many things that made BOTW great, it has the potential to become the best Zelda game in the series.
@@ninja_tony I get what you're saying, and it's understandable, but just out of curiosity what are some of the missing aspects that you believe should be reincorporated into botw2?
My favorite is Breath of the Wild as I firmly believe it's the greatest open world game of all time, but my second favorite would definitely be Majora's Mask and my third favorite would probably be A Link Between Worlds. After that it's a lot more iffy but I'm a big fan of Link's Awakening and the Oracle games. Not a fan of wind waker since I think the dungeons suck and the great sea is far too large and boring, though I do think it is both the best looking and most charming Zelda. IMO OoT is far too overrated. Link to the Past could have been amazing if the sword's hitbox was a bit bigger like with A Link Between Worlds but as of now it's just okay. Twilight Princess is amazing. Skyward Sword is okay. The NES Zelda's kinda suck. Age of Calamity and Hyrule Warriors are amazing. Minish Cap is great. Honestly Zelda might be one of Nintendo's most consistent franchises along with Kirby. Little to no bad games at all besides the NES and the weird 3rd party ones. (aka the CDi and Tingle games) Zelda also has arguably the least toxic Nintendo fandom relative to it's size. Like, it's one of Nintendo's heaviest hitters and yet it's fanbase is FAR less toxic than Mario and ESPECIALLY Pokemon. Meanwhile smaller fanbases like Xenoblade and Fire Emblem are really toxic. At least they're not as bad as Pokemon, which honestly these days is far worse than Undertale, Minecraft, Roblox, Fortnite, and FNAF even at their peaks.
I found that I enjoy 2D Zelda a lot more than 3D Zelda and I'm not fully sure why. Only reason I can think of is because the 2D ones put more focus on the dungeons while the 3D ones have you dancing around doing other inane garbage much more often. Still, it's weird to be someone who doesn't have fun with Ocarina of Time, Skyward Sword, OR Breath of the Wild.
I respect that this guy didn't put Ocarina of Time at #1 like almost every other list. Is Ocarina of Time a great video game? Yes? Is it always gonna be ranked #1 or #2 best N64 game? Yes. Have we had Zelda games over the past 25 years with better gameplay, graphics, story, characters etc? Yes. That's not saying that Ocarina of Time isn't still one of the greatest games ever, it's saying we've evolved over the past 25 years of gaming.
I hope BotW2 actually has things to do. The first game's world felt so bloated and huge just for the sake of feeling huge, but over half of your game time will consist of finding korok seeds and doing shrines (many of which ultimately just blend together). It's probably the biggest reason why I couldn't get into it, I felt no incentive to explore. Hopefully BotW2 fixes this, as well as brings back actually good and interesting dungeons
This is gonna be the worst take ever, but Triforce Heros is my favorite Zelda game. It certainly won't work as well as it did back when there was online for this game, but there was no other experience like coordinating with random people through the stickers.
Not my favourite, but yeah, Triforce Heroes is really good. I completed it in Single Player myself, and had a blast. I'm glad to hear the Multiplayer with randoms worked well too! That kinda negates the "You need friends" argument. An argument which honestly just isn't true. Singleplayer works amazingly well! I tried Multiplayer a little, but I thought a lot of the fun went away when only controlling one Link. I honesly think that, much like the Oracle games, a lot of people haven't really tried Triforce Heroes, and have only based their opinions on speculation or what they have heard from others. The criticisms about the game I hear these days are the same I heard before it was even released, and that made me initially not interested in the game. I got my hands on it though, and upon playing it myself, all assumptions I had about the game turned out to just not be real.
@@Korobooshii from my experience oracles have a lot of highs and lows. some of the best dungeons come from ages and the overworlds are also pretty good while the time travel is an improvement of alttp's dual world and oot's time travel and the password system is cool, but i found the mini-games and stealth (which i argue seasons having among the worst designed in the series to be very intrusive and there is too much rng with rings if you want to go for a full completion (fortunately if you keep the password you never have to go through the trouble again). also one thing i noticed with capcom entries is that i-frames when taking damage is almost non-existent from enemies). several rings also do nothing where two of them require a gba unless you saved the password.
@@scorpionsapprentice3248 I never saw an incentive to go 100% in either game. Since rings felt extremely optional, I thought the randomness of rings was kinda fun. But yea, must be a pain for completionists. For me, Ages was a big high with few lows, and Seasons was the opposite. I do wonder if that would be different if I started with Seasons instead, but I honestly doubt it.
@@Korobooshii i would rank ages higher if not for the mandatory mini-games. i also like how seasons is more explorable but it also has invisible barriers. as for the radnom-ness it gets frustrating when you have to go for exclusives such as the platinum level goron dance or the target mini-game. one thing both games are guilty of (the same goes wih sprite based LA) is that all level 6 dungeons have a luck based room. now the switch remake fixed this by making a real puzzle out of it so if the oracles do get a remake in the future, i hope they also resolve this one as well. given that ages is about puzzles there could be clues on a specific order to pull the switches similar to the combination locks in skyward sword.
I'm glad Spirit Tracks is pretty high. I kind of want to see it acknowledged as a 3D game even though it's technically not since it's so underrated. The music kicks ass as you ride your train and Link and Zelda's relationship with these incarnations is one of my favourites in the series.
Breath of the Wild is the worst game in my opinion. It ruined everything and it got so popular, the original Zelda play style still won’t come back with BOTW2 coming out soon…
I'm extremely happy to see you put the original Hyrule Warriors in the top 10. It's just such a love letter to the entire series, and personally for me helped me fall back in love with the series when I was done with it for personal reasons. Age of Calamity is alright, but hopefully someday we can get another game like the first.
I really don’t understand the love for botw, it’s such a boring and bland experience. After the plateau you kinda get the gist of the game, and nothing really changes: your character doesn’t improve shrines don’t look any different, it’s just so bland and lifeless
I agree wholeheartedly. I love open world games but BoTW to me was just soooo boring and empty. People always say there is a ton of stuff to do but what is that then? Besides from a short list of side quests, 999 korok seeds and a huge pile of copy paste and a bland shrines there is nothing to do to further your progress.
The top 10 are some of the highest rated games of all time, including the highest rated game of all time. So honestly they’re all interchangeable and it’s all up to personal preference. Great list!
Also theres so few enemy types and combat boils down to dodge flurry rush with highest hitting weapon and the occasional shield bash for guardian lasers
@@firenze6478 You can stasis an enemy for combat strategy. Use magnesis to swing, push, or drop metal into enemies. Snipe from a far with the bow or throw bombs from above. Charge and run them over with a horse. Cause other enemies to attack each other. Use elemental weapons to cause status effects. Throw your melee weapon to knock your opponent to the ground and still their weapon. Combat is at it most indepth in this Zelda game that I'm sure I missed some options. Can't say much about the small amount of enemies tho but I guess there was enough that it didn't get stale to me and I can see the second game adding much more in the future.
@@SlayerRunefrost I didn't mind the beginning as much as traveling across Hyrule to find a bunch of heiroglyphs for a book that opens ONE DOOR.
@@WillTBear1 that's fair
@@WillTBear1 as much as I love TP, I’ll admit that is facts
I thought Twilight Princess was a healthy balance between dark and gritty as well as a fun adventure. It felt like a proper continuance to the Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask formula.
Fun fact/theory for Wind Waker: Wind Waker link might be the only Link to break the cycle as he wasn't a chosen hero. He wasn't born the hero he earned it by repairing the master sword and reassembling the triforce of courage.
Yes!!! I think for this it's my favorite. Game play wise there are definitely some pain points but for the lore alone it's top notch
Ganondorf just messed with the wrong kids sister
Nah he’s still the chosen hero, every hero is given some crazy ordeal before he can fight off Ganon/Demise. He only needed to repair the sword because Ganon killed the 2 sages that kept its power
Why do you think Ganondorf isn't in Hourglass or Tracks?
Considering Ganon doesn't come back in that timeline yeah bro ended that
Twilight Princess may be my favorite, but wind waker will always hold a special place in my heart for being the first Zelda game I ever beat.
Seriously, Nintendo, re-release wind waker and twilight princess on the switch!
this comment keeps me alive
I missed out on the twilight princess wii-u port, so I want it very badly on switch

So a re-re-release?
Isn’t the game already available on the Switch?

Let’s not fight about which is better, they all great 👍
Almost all of them are 8s or 9s imo, just 1 to 2 that are true 10/10.
Then again, I think game review scales are terrible and 8s and 9s are handed out too often..

Ocarina of Time is still best though

Spirit tracks has a place in my heart. I don't know if it is the character design, the plot, or even the train trips, it has something that makes it the best zelda game I've ever played and the first one I beat.
Same here, its my fave
It's not my favorite Zelda game, but it is really special and has it's own place in my heart, too. The setting, the travel mechanic and the side missions. Everything is so lovely!
I.
Love.
Spirit Tracks.
And I haven't even passed through the first dungeon because I dunno how to use a sword! (Emulator, heh)
I think if a game you've basically never played is one of your favourite games of all time, it's a good game.
Also, THE MUSIC.
I love the music.
I love twilight princess the most and probably always will.
Wow, 35+ years of a gaming franchise in one video!
Twilight Princess is my jam! Great dungeons, and very fun to play.
i haven't played Twilight Princess in a while but i remember the boss battles being difficult and challenging for me in a really fun way.

@@JonSmith-hk1bq
Like a New Hope, it might not have been the deepest written movie from its sequel, but it was the most ground braking for the time. Similar to OOT
Same for me, not my first game but the first one that really got me hooked
This is big facts G, I’ve always stated that Majoras Mask was the superior game but it gets overshadowed by Ocarina of Time.
OOT or MM is the best in the franchise and if you disagree you’re wrong
I think “A Link to the Past ,” is the best, maybe it’s just my nostalgia for the game, but it is always one of my favorites to replay.
Greatest game ever made imo let alone just zelda.
Agree
Link to the Past, Ocarina, and Majora will always be top 3. Kids nowadays don't know what great zelda games are.
My top three are BOTW at 3, OoT at 2, and MM at 1. And I like Link Between Worlds the best of the 2D ones. Great list bro, I like that it was short and sweet and to the point
Botw is barley a zelda game.
?!?
@@Perroden I don’t think you used the word “barley” in the right context, lol
@@Perroden 100 percent agree, amazing open world but lack of dungeons. Shrines got boring and repetitive. There's nothing wrong with games being somewhat linear, ocarina of time and winwaker struck the balance of overworld and variety of dungeons
BOTW is the only Zelda game that I've really gotten invested in, and I love it, but I definitely will find the time to play MM and OOT
Looking online, the average time to 100% the games are as follows:
Ocarina of Time: 37 hours
Majora’s Mask: 31 hours
Twilight Princess: 56 hours
Breath of the Wild: 189 hours
Considering BotW takes 3 times as long as the longest of the 3 you mentioned, I guess I’m confused on what you mean by those games have more content and side activities? There are SO MANY side quests, activities, and content to BotW it’s insane. Whether or not you agree with their ranking, it’s just facts!
Completion time doesn't mean anything if it's hollow. Of those 189 hours at least 100 are just to find the Korok seeds. And I really love botw for so many reasons, but the dungeons of TP, the creativity of SS and the story of OoT and MM is something that cannot be discussed.

I can't say I've played...or even was aware of all these; only most. Of COURSE, there were more Tingle games...of course.
Skyward Sword was my first ever Zelda game
Still to this day is the music, battle mechanics and story mesmerise me and I no matter how many times I play the game I've never gotten bored of it.
The motion controls for me worked well and work even better in the remake so its truly a delight to play
My favorites in the franchise are ocarina of time and skyward sword. I just love their stories, so much.
I agree

Adventure of Link is hands down one of my favorite Zelda games. I love how difficult it is
I would move some of the games around a bit and I’m not as much of a fan of Breath of the Wild since it lacks many traditional Zelda things like proper items and dungeons though it is still fun but wouldn’t be my personal number 1, but always nice to see someone’s list.
It was a good game but bad zelda game. Like rez 5 isn't a bad game but a terrible rez game. Music was bad, no dungeons, no real boss fights, no items to collect. And I'm not a fan of the sheika tablet thing.
yeah i share your opinion BotW is a good game but bottom 5 Zelda game (the 3 multiplayer ones and AoL being bottom 4 lol)
my favourite Zelda is either Minish Cap, A Link to the Past or Links Awakening (Switch)
Breath of the Wild only comes at number 10 for me just for that reason alone.
The dungeons were by far the worst part of the game hopefully they fix that in next one
@@Roboshi2007 Damn. You're totally right. My personal favourite game in the series? How could I have been so wrong. Worst game of all time.

There are so many zelda randomizers its crazy. There is even one for botw
Windwaker will always be my favorite. Yeah it's easy and has less dungeons, but that soundtrack, artstyle, pirate theme, and sense of adventure is 👌
Huh, I genuinely think windwaker is harder than a lot of the other 3D Zelda games.

Great bosses, great characters, great plot and great shopkeeper, truly one of the games of all time😁
You both are fools
wind waker is not only my favorite zelda game but my favorite game of all time in my eyes the game is absolutely perfect the story, the characters, the gameplay, the graphics, the soundtrack all perfect in my opinion even after playing breath of the wild wind waker remains my favorite of the bunch.
Sorry to bring that to you, but you literally forgot 1 Zelda game "Zelda's Adventure" and no it wasn't japan exclusive.
Skyward sword, twilight princess, and ocarina of time will always be my favorites man. So many childhood memories and tremendous amounts of fun
Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, and Breath Of the Wild have become Top 5 games of all time along with Super Mario Brothers and Super Mario Brothers 3.
I'm just happy to find someone else who appreciates Spirit Tracks.
@@DaRkLoRd-rc5yu Windfall Island is probably the best town they ever did! All the little secrets and side quests there were amazing!
It's ludicrous to say that ocarina of time is 6 and majoras is 3... complete comedy thing
kind of disappointed you didn't want to spend 8 hours talking about zelda games. i'd watch that.
Preach
Still, I enjoyed the video. ;)
I’d love to see you do this with Sonic, just so I can watch you descend into madness.
XD
Not sure if rabbid will but the sonic fanbase definitely will with how they are.
Literally feel like the only person that wouldnt put Breath of the Wild at the top
I would put them underneath Majoras Mask and Wind Waker at the very least
Your last statement is a great one! :)
Thanks for including Wand of Gamelon and Faces of Evil! Their comedic value is something every Zelda fan should experience.
Ick, BOTW being the #1 is a let down
Why?
@@darkcloak100 we’re salty because it didn’t scratch our Zelda itch…😢
@@firenze6478 But it's such a fun adventure tho. I think my favorite part is going through the Lost Woods
Link's Crossbow Training is massively underrated
I love Skyward Sword. The environment, music, and characters really stuck with me in a good way.. Same with Twilight Princess.
Seeing wind waker ranked so high makes me incredibly happy. I’ve played it since I was a kid and it’s my favourite not just for nostalgic reasons but it was a bold step from majora’s mask that I feel didn’t get the credit it deserved. Toon link is a fucking badass
Breath of the Wild was kind of a "meh" as a Zelda game for me.
triforce heroes being ranked that low is a crime. Triforce heroes is really good if you have friends or you find people online.
Unpopular opinion. Skyward Sword is one of the worst Zelda games ever
Windwaker is my favorite
Out of all of the games that I have played, my ranking is:
1. The Wind Waker
2. Majora's Mask
3. Ocarina of Time
4. Twilight Princess
5. Skyward Sword
6. The Minish Cap
7. A Link Between Worlds
8. Spirit Tracks
9. Link's Awakening
10. A Link to the Past
11. Phantom Hourglass
12. TriForce Heroes
13. Breath of the Wild
14. Oracle of Ages
15. The Legend of Zelda
16. Age of Calamity Demo (lol)
17. Zelda 2
There is a big gap between 10th and 11th place, and another one between 13th and 14th I guess.
@@ThatGuy-ky2yf Yeah crazy to think it was almost a decade ago
“When was the last time you thought about the DS Zelda games?”
…all the time 😳
BoTW felt empty to me.
It never felt like I was progressing I hate being given all your items from the start with nothing else to strive for.
Atleast albw you could upgrade and find some stuff in the dark world dungeons.
Also your sword didn’t explode and force you to forage for more weapons
TOTK was much worse, BOTW was pretty good for a couple play throughs
Botw is a bad game objectively and constructively
@@kidplaysgame3590 thanks for the input Miyamoto
wind waker as #2 is sooooo real
Botw is a bad game objectively & constructively, I think you just have bad opinions my guy
Links crossbow training should actually be number 1.
I enjoyed every game except botw,
Even zelda 2.
We’re all weirdos with different opinions 😁
I respect that this guy didn't put Ocarina of Time at #1 like almost every other list. Is Ocarina of Time a great video game? Yes? Is it always gonna be ranked #1 or #2 best N64 game? Yes. Have we had Zelda games over the past 25 years with better gameplay, graphics, story, characters etc? Yes. That's not saying that Ocarina of Time isn't still one of the greatest games ever, it's saying we've evolved over the past 25 years of gaming.
EXACTLY
I hope BotW2 actually has things to do. The first game's world felt so bloated and huge just for the sake of feeling huge, but over half of your game time will consist of finding korok seeds and doing shrines (many of which ultimately just blend together). It's probably the biggest reason why I couldn't get into it, I felt no incentive to explore. Hopefully BotW2 fixes this, as well as brings back actually good and interesting dungeons
1. Twilight Princess
2. Breath of the Wild
3. Majora's Mask
4. Link's Awakening
5. Wind Waker
Honestly a lot of other games could be 5th for me
cultured
Plus making weapons consumable garbage that explodes discourages combat and makes it feel like theres even less progression
The top 10 are some of the highest rated games of all time, including the highest rated game of all time. So honestly they’re all interchangeable and it’s all up to personal preference. Great list!
W take
Botw is the most disappointing zelda. It's just a generic exploring game with a zelda skin slapped on it. And why is there almost no story?
The story is with the side characters, seeing how the world is surviving in the Apocalypse.
@@darkcloak100 It's right on the edge of post post apocalypse.
Can't say much about the small amount of enemies tho but I guess there was enough that it didn't get stale to me and I can see the second game adding much more in the future.
seeing spirit tracks high up is fantastic. first zelda game i played back in 2010. underrated as hell and by far the best zelda theme
Yikes for BOTW being #1. No taste at all
