  • During a 2015 Jeep Renegade media event this week in Hollister, California, we had a chance to ride along with Jeep Brand Director of Product Marketing, Jim Morrison, as he put the all-new B-segment Renegade through its impressive off-road paces in a test drive. The all-new B-segment Renegade will be in showrooms across North America in March, 2015.

    Perhaps I'm bias because I want one, but mark my words in a couple years I think this will be Jeeps best selling model world wide.

    It's a neat little vehicle, but was surprised at the price when you deck it out as a Trailhawk. Maybe if there are some leftovers at the end of the year I'll give them a look.

    Good to see this little guy tough it out on actual offroad terrain! Sucks the aftermarket wont really keep with this like they do with the wranglers and CJ's in terms of lift kits and the like.

      I know it's been a year, but there are aftermarket lift kits and the like for this... Check out what Daystar has available..

    I really like this JEEP but after experiencing poor warranty service on my Chrysler 200 I doubt I would ever spend the money on any FCA product again...

    here's how to market this to AMERICANS: higher lift, bigger tires, get rid of the plastic trim, optional cummins diesel. I'd buy one. hell, I'd buy a stock one and do some modifying to it.

    man, totally avoided the obstacle at the end of the video because of the weak ground clearance. bet the renegade would never be able to do the golden grack at moab.

  • @blade913
    @blade913 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I love the renegade...but for some stupid reason the non trailhawk models do not come with the same bumpers as shown in this video. So even if your renegade has a 4x4 drive train, you don't have the approach/departure angles as the trailhawk.

    Wow!! That lil jeep can get down. Does anyone know the actual mpg numbers for the 4 x 4. I'm assuming it won't be as good as the front wheel drive, but look at what it can do. I wanted to by my wife the rubicon, which obviously looks meaner than this, but I don't like the mpg on the rubicon

    • @TheLOL4DUDE
      @TheLOL4DUDE 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      2.0 multijet 140 HP 4x4 = 14-15km/liter it means something like 36mpg ... maybe 40 mpg.That was tested in real driving situations. Remember this: the 4x4 system is NOT permanent. If you loose grip, the ECU will deliver power to the rear axel, otherways you've the power always on the front wheels.. that's good for a better consumption.

      I hear it's made in Italy. Not that it is anything to fear since Chrysler quality was never that great either. I'ld consider one if they bring over the bigger diesel motor option from Europe.

    20:1 "Crawl ratio"? Are you kidding?!

    • @jerroldshelton9367
      @jerroldshelton9367 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      (I recognize yours is an old comment, but as the "pre-owned" Renegade is now one of the cheaper ways to get in to an off-road vehicle, I offer this for those contemplating buying a used one.)
      No, they're not kidding. They're also not factoring in the 2:1 torque multiplication of the torque converter in a hydraulic automatic transmission, either.
      My 2015 Renegade Trailhawk has a decimal point fraction lower crawl ratio that the automatic transmission equipped Bronco II Eddie Bauer that my father bought new in '86. He took that thing places that would have passengers wishing for spatulas to pry their puckered butts off his eighties-era velour upholstery, even though his 2.42:1 first gear, 2.42:1 low range gear, and 3.42:1 final drives add up to a 20.288:1 crawl ratio.
      When you butt the front tire up against a rock and add just enough throttle to get the tire to roll over it, you're not working with a 20:1 crawl ratio, anymore. You get the 2:1 torque multiplication of the torque converter, too, until input and output speeds equalize across it. That's why automatic transmissions historically had first gears around 2.42:1. The torque converter effectively doubles that to 4.84:1 off idle.
      In short, the Renegade Trailhawk is hardly the only automatic transmission equipped 4X4 in history to have a 20:1 crawl ratio. That's about where most auto-trans body on frame SUVs were at back in the 80s and 90s.
      The real downside isn't that a Renegade Trailhawk gets a 20:1 crawl ratio from a 4.8:1 first gear that isn't used in ordinary pavement driving, and a 4.33:1 final drive ratio, but that it only gets that kind of gear reduction going forward. Because part of that reduction was done in a transfer case the Renegade doesn't have, my father's Bronco II was at least as low going in reverse as it was going forward in first gear when in low range.

    Honestly Love the styling and features. But I cringe at that chrysler fiat reliability. I think I'm going to buy it anyways, and love the features and all but I know im gonna get an ass kicking from a variety of computer and transmission issues. If this was made by like Honda or like Subaru or even Mitsu I would really feel more comfortable buying it.

    Looks like it's a great vehicle! And it will be for the first couple of years; until the engine overheats, the transmission start skipping, the engine oil starts leaking, a computer starts breaking, the window regulator start breaking, the horn stops working.,... Yep! That pretty much scribes the way jeeps are.

    the offroad test is so pathetic I bet a prius could do this course this is such a joke. I love my wrangler but am truly dissapointed in jeep for marketing this piece of fiat shit so heavily.. it's fiat 500 with a jeep badge F.I.A.T= Fix It Again Tony.... can't believe this is what being "offroad capable" has come down to

    • @TroutWest
      @TroutWest 9 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      +bambam1370 Uh, No. Your fucking prius isn't going to do this test. In fact, a lot of 4wds out now couldn't do this test. You obviously have no idea what that terrain causes a drive train to go through, or what traction issues are represented with those obstacles. You do realize this is the SAME track they test their Rubicon Wranglers right? Well, obviously you didn't know that.

      +RoadTripVidz The SUV is pretty much dead. This does a fantastic job for what it is. Just look at what its compared to. The nissan juke, kia soul, chevy trax, honda hrv.....are you kidding? They couldn't do half of this.

    • @dirtycommtroop
      @dirtycommtroop 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +bambam1370 I cant justify spending 30K on a 2 door with no power locks or windows, zero trunk space, and no worthy standard features. The argument is that there used to be so many other options out there. Now all you have to choose from is this or a wrangler. If they still made them id get an xterra pro-4x.
