If you can rant for five hours, that is f%%%ing amazing. Seriously, your Doctor Who video was amazing and spot on. In order for you to make that video, you had to be a HUGE fan of the product. You can't be that in depth on where the show has gone wrong without seeing just how right the show can be. I lost interest and wondered if I just grew out of it, so I went back and watched a Tennant episode and realized I still love what the show was, just not what it is now.
My boyfriend holds a neutral dislike of Doctor Who and he watched half the 5 hour video with me ... the latter half, after casually watching over my shoulder and being entranced.
There is something inherently dismissive when people suggest that a given genre shouldn't be taken too seriously. You wanna get me really serious, suggest that comedy shouldn't be taken seriously.

The point the guy from that article was making was completely asinine anyway. "Oh yeah the Nazis occasionally made use of non-white collaborators and therefore had no problems with non-white people and would happily put them in positions of authority over German soldiers" is a nonsensically bad take. Because some people tie their whole personality to things that they like. And since they lack other aspects of their personality, an attack on their favorite things turns into a personal insult to them. They can endlessly talk about how their favorite thing is beautiful. And if you dare to criticize their favorite thing, suddenly standards begin to be imposed. Is the criticism too short? The criticism is superficial. Is the criticism too long? Go outside and touch the grass! All feelings are important, all assessments are valid, any criticism is hatred. Enjoy the product. Don't ask questions. But only you can't criticize. They can descend to the most poisonous and vile personal insults. They will run after you for three days just to tell you how much they don't care about you and how sorry they are for you. Because for them, you are a villain who wants to get a quality product. And they have enough of the available product and they are happy. And you spoil their fun, because you claim that their favorite thing is bad. After all, you can't love bad things and understand that they are bad. Smokers, for example, usually understand that their lungs will not thank them for cigarettes. But they can't admit it. For their favorite things are their personalities. And if they like bad things, then their personality is not so good either.
Because they want to avoid criticism all together. It's pretty simple, but frankly it doesn't excuse the show of doctor who or help it. I thought Jay was more than fair in his video as opposed to complaining identity politics and not showing why the show is clearly a dumpster fire of qaulity at this point even without politics being put in.
Insecurities. They don't want something they deem 'precious' to them being 'put down' by other people. You would think people who like TV shows that go on for years and can't be binged within a few hours would understand how being longer can actually be a good thing.
It's weird because it only seems really logical that, you know, people who make longer videos would probably have more to say? I mean, how many times do people think you can say 'show bad' without actually making an actual point in a FIVE HOUR video??? What??? If anything, it's the really short videos I'd expect to be shallow. If you're taking less than 10 minutes to talk about over 20 hours of footage then I have no idea how you could even get to any meaningful conclusions in that timeframe.
@@dracocrusher Personally, 5hrs is 100% too long HOWEVER: It can be excused because of the target audience of the video. A critical essay in literature really doesn't need that type of length, but a lot of the time spent on the essay seemed to go to source material/evidence of his claims or explaining his stance. Realistically, the same video could be 2-3hrs in length without suffering from that much lost content. It's not quantity that led to its length, more structuring. But again, it's excused by the target audience of the video. It's made to be extremely accessible and well explained so that people can't make weak points about failed criticism or "subjective opinions". That made them turn to "Chibnall bad" and "5hrs?!?", but they're obviously weak criticisms as they don't actually dispute the legitimacy of the criticisms within the video. For the video itself, I definitely think a big part of its length comes from the 'walkthrough' structured criticisms and them taking too long. While it's a great way to drive home your point to those who aren't as experienced in literature, I think it suffers in long essays about an entire series as it really bloats the length. It works great for essays surrounding a couple of episodes, or essays that are focusing on a certain problem with the series. But with a more general criticism of the entire series, it ends up leading to its long length. Essentially, a large bulk of the essay seemed to be put into paraphrasing. Personally, I think the essay would be better served with it being segmented into different issues the series suffered from. So, for example, half an hour on the characters of the series, rather than nearly an hour on a single episode. Then, laying out your criticisms/issues with something like the characters without relying too much on the source material to continually prove your point. A couple of scenes supporting your claims are a good thing, but entire episodes with a variety of criticisms leads to the longer length and kind of random structure of actual points made. Really enjoyed the video, BUT its length was an issue. Again, doesn't actually dispute his points, it's only something someone studying/with a career in writing would notice and find issue with.
When I see someone making a 5-hour critique on something my immediate interpretation is "gosh this guy must be really sad that something he loves is going to shit". Cause anyone who commits so much time of their life into producing something, obviously has a passion for the IP.

Interesting comment about the Nazi section - Indians were considered to be in the sub-human class which was the same class as the Jews. Hitler did not believe that they were capable of governing themselves and was against any Nationalist movement started by Indians to fight the British. So no, the article writer is incorrect. I listened to the entire thing while working on a project of my own, and the backlash is completely ridiculous. You made what I consider to be very nuanced critiques and frankly I completely agree with the vast majority of it. It did in no way boil down to “woman bad!” People are just weird.
It's mostly due to a retarded modern view of feminism. Everybody wants to argue that just because something has woman in it or is made by a woman, it's automatically a bad thing and should never exist. People just want boil points and nothing else. If you don't know, Nerdrotic, Geeks and Gamers and his friends all argue that MCU is bad now because it is going to have women. Suddenly the fact that marvel and Kevin Feige bringing in more female characters into focus is bad only shows they don't care and just want to rake in on the grift. Nerdrotic even made a twitter post where he argued with a tag post that it is very sexist to have female directors making superhero films, where the only thing that the tag post said that more female directors should make superhero films. Him saying that only proved that he is incapable of rational thinking. He even argued that shang chi bad because he got defeated by his sister in one scene. Later on, he defeated his father and dweller in darkness in the end. Geeks and Gamers had made a video not criticising Matrix resurrections, but thinking how woke is it. Thing is, if my understanding of history is correct, that part of the article wasn't the problem. The racism of the Nazi's is not as cut and dry as is often assumed (please read; they were still incredibly racist); for instance, there were actually Nazi Jews. Howdy... I'm an aged, huge fan of Doctor Who. I grew up in an agrarian community in Virginia's, poverty stricken Appalachian country. So, we had 3 channels available in 1974 here, and if I turned the 13" B&W TV'S rabbit ear antenna just right, I could pick up PBS. That brought Jon Pertwee's amazing Doctor into my life. Later I would utterly fall in love with Tom Baker's Doctor. Doctor Who and Star Trek were my oasis of sanity in an extremely depressing and soul crushing world here. When your mother makes you a ketchup sandwich for your birthday because she grabbed a bunch of packets from a store when no one noticed, Doctor Who telling you that violence doesn't solve problems, becomes a balm for the pain. My anger at what they did to a show that literally made me a better person, far exceeds your own. But, your 5 hour video was very well made, and thought out. If it means anything, I applaud you and respect your views and opinions. Keep swinging and making videos. You're good at it. Take care... Rob / : )
People on the internet have embarassed themselves by not watching this Video here and then pretending to totally know what it contains. What sheer embarassment.
This is exceptional and I hope he sees your comment. For reasons like your own, this is why I firmly believe that media (including grainy, B&W, 13" TV shows) can be so overwhelmingly influencial. And having your reason for being more-than-a-fan abandoned by the creative team feels personally insulting. Therefore, it's not, "change is bad" as the battle cry; but, "this affects me deeply and I don't believe that I can support its continued existence".
I love the implications that Jay of all people would have a problem with a character that was previously perceived as male now presents as a woman. It takes a lot of not-doing-your-research to reach that conclusion.
Same smooth-brained energy as those people who call YMS homophobic/alt-right. Why respond to the actual criticism when you can resort to cookie-cutter Ad hominem?
From my experience on TH-cam with video essays, these guys going "Oh god it's 5 hours, it's just a bunch of hate filled bs, isn't it?" have it exactly the other way around. Like, if someone's going to put in the time and effort to go through the process of scripting and editing down the script for 5 hours worth of video, spend countless days just recording the lines, find the right clips, edit those clips in while making sure they won't trip the copyright censors, and everything else that goes into such a huge project, it's not just going to be a rant. By the time anyone just finished recording everything, I'd imagine the anger would be so far past dead that they'd just feel like scrapping it entirely rather than continuing. If someone just wanted to make a rant hating on a thing that people like complaining about for views, it's not going to be a 5 hour long video that's the result of a months long project. It'll probably be like a 20 minute video, maybe an hour if they _really_ push it. That doesn't take nearly the same commitment as a full hours long video essay would.
I've seen hour long videos about how the "global elite" aka Jews are taking over the world Video length isn't a good indicator for quality in either direction

"The implied misogyny of making a video on the only female Doctor Who" You mean the video in which he spends most of it criticising the white male that made the show and praising the shit out of what I assume is the only episode where the lead writer is a woman and his main point of praise is that the female doctor is demonstrating strength against the male villain who is also demonstrating strength, showing that she's not going to be intimidated by his display of strength? He also spends most of the video criticising the fact that the female Doctor is shown to be too weak, both emotionally and charismatically throughout the series and said that he was more excited to hear that the female lead writer for that one episode becoming a core writer for the next season than he was when he was a child sitting inside an operable Dalek. You don't need any more proof that these people resort to accusations of sexism without actually caring about whether or not it's sexist just as a way to dismiss something entirely without having to argue their stance or make any effort whatsoever.
A video being hours long is a selling point to me. It signals to me "This person has put in a huge amount of effort and time to make something they feel some kind of passionate about and are sharing it with people." And I love that shit! I love hearing people who know a lot about a thing I know little or absolutely nothing about just go on about the topic for hours, whether that's positive or negative, or both. Not saying every hour long videos are like this, but most of them are I believe. You don't fill hours of video time with nonsense or unfounded hate, that's what twitter's for.

'There's a suspicious amount of female characters in fiction.' I'm glad someone else noticed that! What's with that anyway? I'm afraid I've started to notice this weird trend in real life too... Why are there so many women??? What's the meaning of that? Politically correctness will kill us all! /s
I like how the guy meant it as women are taking a man's role as main character and says wonder woman. Woman is in her name. Do u think it's gonna be a man. Also what is wrong with women for main roles
This exactly! I don't care if I viemently disagree and will probably never have my opinion swayed on a given topic. If you put enough obvious care and effort into something, I'm going to watch it and hear you out because obviously you want people like me who don't agree to watch it. I want to encourage discourse, and hey, maybe I will be swayed. 5 hours can house a lot of arguments, and maybe there's one on there I haven't heard before and instantly convinces me to change my opinion.
yeah i honestly don't get where this "thing long bad" mindset came from. me first thought went to twitter and other forms of social media, even blogs, where they either don't give that room for long form essay or there's room for that but people are discouraged from making those types of posts bc the engagement is low anyway. sure there's a chance someone might just trail off and starts ranting only slightly coherent in long videos, but at that point it's easy to tune out. but any long form response/critique imo should be welcomed at first (i.e. not immediately dismissed) bc hey, the probability of the creator fully explain their reasoning and why they came to the conclusion they came to is pretty high.
Yes it was a bit long, but you got to consider the source material is a show that's lasted for 50 FUCKING years. So 1 hour a decade isn't so hard to swallow. I watched the whole thing, was worth it, and it wasn't repetitive.
My last exposure to Doctor Who was as a child, with the 10th and 11th Doctor eras. I clicked out of curiosity and was amazed at the quality and depth of feedback. Five hours is, arguably, brisk for deconstruction of an entire season of televison with 22 50 minute episodes! This is good faith, useful, well-considered critique that gave me excellent insight into the problems with the new season, and actually got me interested in checking out some more of the show! I felt like watching more of the old seasons, checking out some extended media! Stuff like this should be seen as an absolute gold mine for showmakers. It even had community polls! Real data! Fuck, I would kill to get that on *one* script I've done, never mind two full seasons!
I genuinely don’t understand how people can so confidently complain about the content of a video they haven’t seen. To me, even when badly criticizing a TH-cam video for things like misogyny, or racism, or anything for that matter, the first logical step would be to WATCH THE VIDEO. These people are acting high and mighty for not liking a TH-cam video they haven’t watched yet and claiming baselessly they the video is arguing in bad faith. The worst part of all of this though is that I’m not surprised it’s happening. What has the world come to?
I definitely can’t fathom how people do that. I get anxious when I make a comment before I finish a video about literally anything because WhAt If ThEy TaLk AbOuT iT lAtEr?!?!? So the confidence some people have to just say what they think someone says without doing the smallest scrap of research by just watching the damn thing is just 😳😳😳
My biggest surprise is that one of them (that Martin) was actually a journalist. You'd assume journalists of all people would understand how important it is to have ACTUALLY WATCHED THE SOURCE before saying anything huge about it. If I had to guess, their excuse was probably "not worth my time"-even though you can easily just skim through the first ten or twenty minutes to at least get the rundown. Anyone whose first thought when seeing a video length of five hours is "Oh no, it will be rant" then...ok? But actually watch and look out for rant signs first?
TO be perfectly frank about your last question, this is not new behaviour that the World is suddenly experiencing. This is why things like Chernobyl occurred, not to mention the cover-up which followed it; and it predated the 1980s as well, by decades. It begs a question, are they aware of how they're projecting Bad Faith rather than owning their own proverbial shit? Or are they oblivious to it?
@@milkjug4237 honestly it’s a shame what journalism has come to but half the problem is that the internet allows people with zero training or ethical standards to become “reporters,” and in order to keep up with their rapid fire trash reporting more legitimate sources have had to trade their careful researching for reactionary BS like this.
It’s like responses to his paradise pd (?) video - which were largely “everyone is entitled to an opinion so how dare you attack something I like” - not realising their very line of ‘reasoning’ invalidates their whole argument
Nah but you see when someone makes a video on TH-cam and other people watch it, they may agree with it and if the opinion they agree with is that the thing I like is bad, then that means they think I am bad so their opinion can't be true because I like it and I am not bad therefore my opinion is more valid than theirs and they can go fuck themselves and their freedom of thought because my freedom of thought is more important because I think therefore I am! I... I think that's how that goes? It hurts trying to think through that kind of reasoning.

The Indian Legion were POWs... *PRISONERS* *OF* *WAR* They probably weren't fighting along side the Villains of WW2 because they agreed with the Villains of WW2 article writer...
It wasn't Indian Pow's who were forced to fight for the nazi's. They recruited Indian pow's who didn't like Britain for whatever reasons ( probablly because they wanted to get the British out of India) and Indians who were living in Europe that didn't like the allies/fine with the nazis.
There were also Arab SS volunteers, ofc it’s not like this means they wouldn’t turn on them later. (Hell, I think they’d fight Italy later if they somehow woulda won or didn’t go to war over the city state of Danzig/Gdansk)
Seriously twitter, that wasn't a hate video. It was a patient and loving explanation to the show runners why they're not doing a good job. With loads of evidence, well reasoned critisims and a level headed tone throughout the whole thing. It was essentially a masterful essay. A work of art. At no point did I feel enraged, just amused, and sad that something I like is being so neglected. It was actually VERY USEFUL. And I seriously want to thank you here because I like to write for fun, bit found myself frustrated with my writing lately. Watching this video made me realize I was going down many of the paths he was describing, and how to avoid it in the future. Seriously, if someone put this as course material for a college on how to write for media, it would be well justified and very informative. I wish the creators of this show would watch this.
@@totallynotaferrettrue, but literally every hate comment I've seen levelled towards Jay was from people saying worse things than was ever said about Chibnall in the video It just came across as some cheeky comedy about some of his shite writing. Meanwhile, people are calling Jay sad, having no personality, the video being unwatchable (despite not watching said video...) Hell, even Jay pointed out anything he did like about the episodes! These people are so fragile they can't handle any amount of criticism levelled at a show, that I bet some of them haven't even watched themselves

Had the exact same experience! "I'll turn it off when I get bored, let's see..." Held my attention the whole time, includes so many clips of the show! Jay could've made a separate video for every episode, ended up with way more hours of content, but no one would've cared. _(I also have ADHD)_
I watched a 5 hour video essay on a show that I have never seen in my life. That’s how engaging, interesting and fascinating that 5 hour video essay was. I split it over a few days and I was so excited every time I went back to the video to continue. 👏
What I really hate about people defending the Chin-ball-ear because “it’s a woman so criticism must be misogyny” is that it feels like it’s an old man using a young talented woman as a shield to hide behind and honestly that feels more scummy. Honestly, I feel a lot of the anti-union, using-your-enemies-colour-to-alert-the-Nazis messages would have sounded horrible had someone who looked like Capaldi delivered them. No one would have defended that.
It's the same bullshit as not being able to criticize Isreal for blatant humans rights abuses and apartheid without being accused of anti-semitism. Also all of the criticism for this area is directed at CHIBNALL, _not_ Jodie. I've seen so many comments on the DW subreddit in the line of 'I really like Jodie and it's a crying shame Chibnall writes such shit material for her, with a better writer she would rightfully shine'. If anything people are mad the first female doctor is wasted.
God I really hate the weaponizing of identities in discourse. I know there are lots of reactionaries who will undermine people’s opinions because of it and all, but goddamn. It feels like it’s used unbelievably cynically sometimes
Exactly. It's "misogynist" and apparently bigoted to criticize Chibnall and his terrible writing? How very convenient for terrible writers. The fact it's a woman character makes it worse in my opinion, not better. We needed a well written female doctor more than ever right now, and I can't believe they let Chris Chibnall have it and ruin it like they did. 😠
21:07 - you know my brain kept trying to distract me with that "Am I gay?" quiz but you just nonchalantly and without missing a beat giving it attention in the way that you did broke me a little. thank you
Man, Hbomb just uploads multiple hour long videos about things I've never heard and I watch them. SO 5 hours of doctor who? I was sold and enjoyed it. It's a good video and this one too. Tahnks.
tbh, the whole "you're just hating on these seasons because the doctor is a woman in them"-thing is so dumb because...yeah, let's talk about the fact that she's a woman. Let's talk about the fact that the writers failed to give the first female doctor a personality as distinct as that of other doctors. Let's talk about how they made her scared and nervous about things that the doctor wouldn't have been afraid or worried about as a man. Or how she's been reduced to some ethical role model. These are all examples of annoying treatment that many female characters get and your video helped me put a finger on that after it had already been bothering for a while but I couldn't quite define it.
@@DarylStreete I thought it blended in well with his comment talking about how Jay is a woman and being called misogynist. The only reason that really needs to be said is because Jay herself isn't actually making the point of "These people are calling me misogynist despite the fact that I'm a woman". I assume that this is because Jay doesn't want to call attention to the fact ( and also maybe because being a woman doesn't make you unable to be misogynist, just highly unlikely), though in this case I think it'd actually just make sense for her to make this point in this video.
They would have to be quite disconnected from reality if they can say "God, you must be a sad miserable loser to make a 5 hour hate video" and honestly believe that they have to beat someone down whom they perceive as sad and emotionally fragile, and in all honesty think best course of action is to bully them into submission. Doesn't matter if the targed isn't ACTUALLY sad and emotionally fragile, fact is: These people BELIEVE that the targed is sad and emotionally fragile, and still beat down on him. With other ACTUALLY depressed and emotionally fragile people this can lead to suicide.
Here's the truth: they don't think their target is sad or emotionally fragile. They want to make their target sad and emotionally fragile, and believe that if they accuse them of being these things it will happen.
Some of their points were disproved within the first five minutes of the video. Like the journalist who said that Jay must just not have much experience with Doctor Who. What an absolute embarrassment. How do you get to that level in your career and still make mistakes that a first year journalism student wouldn’t make?
'Implied misogyny' huh? It seems like that person is saying that whenever misogyny COULD be a motivating factor, that we should always assume it to be the case. That is literally the definition of acting in bad faith.
There's a much simpler argument about the Nazi episode you could've said: If the Nazis were fine with him being Indian and it wasn't a Problem, why would he need to use the Perception Filter in the First Place?
People on the internet have embarassed themselves by not watching this Video here and then pretending to totally know what it contains. What sheer embarassment.

Jay: Nazis are bad Them: Actually, Nazis aren't as bad as you thought Conclusion: Jay is probably a right-wing extremist Yeah. I'm gonna need some time digesting that one
It stems from 2 misunderstandings by the writer: 1. He thinks criticizing the Chibnall era is wrong because it has a woman lead therefore criticism is born out of a hatred of the lead, rather than... everything else. He feels that other eras were skipped receiving the same criticism because the mains were men rather than the whole part where you can't criticize the writing of a showrunner by criticizing other showrunners and the video is 5 hours long already how many days do you think it would take to go through the entire Doctor Who canon for fuck's sake? 2. He thinks that because some Indians were on the Nazi side in WWII it means that Nazis were fine with Indians, would love and protect them and not put them into concentration camps, kill them or otherwise torture them as potential spies if found wearing their army's uniform. Quote: "It also seems that there is some inspiration from the extreme right-wing influencers, like the misguided “Indian man and Nazis” point, and the misogyny that is implied in singling out the series that have had a female actor playing the Doctor."
I've never seen Doctor Who before, but I clicked on it out of curiosity. I didn't see how long it was. I watched the whole thing in one go and barely noticed the time fly. Jay should be proud. He single handedly convinced me to watch it... As soon as he watches the Lord of the Rings. Do it, Jay.
@@ziwuri You realise "He" is literally one of the pronouns right? Which is what was used? Also I'm almost certain those pronouns in itself is a joke because he doesn't care what he's referred to as. @@ziwuri I'm not sure i've seen anyone with pronouns laid out in order like that in terms of preference. Not saying people don't do it, I totally could believe that. Just saying me and other people I know just have it as more of a listing of pronouns rather then a best to worst.
@@ziwuri Again I could totally understand that, and either way I always make sure to call anyone what their preferred pronoun is if they have one. Still, you at least pointed the possibility out, and I think that's worth keeping in mind as well, so in the future I might also try to keep it in mind as a possibility. Just know that not everyone specifically does this, infact I know many who have pronouns they prefer just sort of set randomly.
@@ziwuri And I totally get that, a lot of thoughts we formed can often be carried by our own biases and what not. I absolutely wasn't here to put down you for what you said or nothing if there's anyone thinking that, because I totally can understand that, and tbh anyone who would use pronouns you're uncomfortable with are probably assholes. I just think, while okay to make it known what pronouns prefer, we should also remember that it's not really us who says who someone's preferred pronouns are in specifics, we can't speak for others after all, which I think you already understand anyways given you said so, and that requires a level o maturity I think more people could have.

Almost like twitter is a website designed for people who's core personality trait is outrage (sometimes their only personality trait), and them actually watching the video would not let them express their only sense of self.
I find it funny and mildly annoying that there seems to be an unspoken assumption that the person making this was a sexist cishet man, when it's actually an openly liberal trans woman
Big corporations aren't stupid. They don't give two shits about diversity and inclusion, they embrace it because it's very convenient for them when voices critical of their sub-standard product can be immediately written of as cishet, conservative, patriarchal bigots and ignored. They like the fanbase dividing along political lines.
Hey there! WW2 History geek here. Let's talk about why that Indian man would absolutely have been executed by the Nazis in that scene, shall we? So, first of all, there are two insignias that can be referenced from the man's uniform. The show correctly identified him as part of the Waffen-SS from both the shoulder insignia and the insignia on the hat. Let me first talk about the shoulder. What he has there signifies him of a rank of CO or above. More specifically, what I believe to be an Oberführer which is in rank equivalent to a Colonel. I'm making the decision to assume that he is an Oberführer due to the fact that there is no time where you are able to view the collar insignia to determine it, but due to it seeming as though he's in charge of the local Waffen-SS militants, one can easily make such an assumption. In the video, there was mention of the Indian Legion. This is extremely important considering not only the views of the SS and to an extent, the Waffen-SS, but the Nazi High Command all on the views on Indians. They were considered "pathetic", with Adolf Hitler once being on record to state that "...The Indian Legion are a joke." They were not permitted to mix with any German militaries nor allowed to fight in any front other than India and overall were completely segregated from the entirety of the German Military. These of course changed near the latter parts of the war - although - it was during these latter parts whence they joined the Waffen-SS. The Indian Man holds the insignia of the SS-Totenkopfverbände, or in English Terms, SS Death's Head. This division was known for its brutality, sheer disregard for human life other than German and disgust for foreign nations that were deemed to be lesser. They committed atrocities across the entirety of Europe and were in charge of some of the concentration camps and committed countless war crimes. Now, imagine these soldiers seeing that not only has their colonel been shown to be a traitor - but is an Indian. And now consider the views of German High Command on Indians and especially the views of the SS-Totenkopfverbände. He wouldn't live. Thanks for reading lmfao
It's easy to understand even without this historical knowledge. It should be known to masses that Nazi wanted to create "perfect race" (thus breeding facilities and sometimes stealing kids of the perfect image) and this soldier wasn't even white... And this is without considering that he have skull on hat...
@@ladrok97 Nazis wanted to create the perfect race, of course, the Aryans - blue eyes, blonde hair, perfect skull structure as seen in Eugenics etc. However - it should be stated that they weren't *against* utilizing individuals from different ethnicities and cultural backgrounds. For one, there was the Ost battalions utilized on the beaches of Normandy in Operation Overlord, especially at, iirc, Juno and Sword beaches which were primarily comprised of Soviet prisoners. Russians were considered inferior, but their use of such "inferior" forces demonstrates that they weren't against using "lesser" people. I can understand what you mean, such a person in that power being shown to not exactly be who they believe will obviously spark some resentment and anger within the SS forces there, my goal was to sort of demonstrate just how *screwed* over he was due to that field being disabled
@@spiderweb1212 Like the daleks. It's kind of obvious that daleks are Nazis, but it's not only the very obvious stuff. It includes the daleks working with "allies" that they clearly have no respect for, and having people who postpone their destruction by agreeing to work for the daleks, or people the daleks force to work for them, either as labor or soldiers. The daleks also very often proclaim that they do not have to honor promises made to inferior races.

honestly, i will probably watch that five hour video again and again. it's not only a fun and interesting watch, but it's also a masterclass in what to do and what not to do when writing characters, and as a writer i learnt a lot. thanks for making it!
The point was already talked down but I find it just laughable that this dude really tried to argue, because the nazis had a singular legion of LITERAL PRISONERS OF WAR (POWs being a fancy term for war slaves), that the nazis would have just overlooked his skin color or even accepted Indians is just insane.
Prisoners of War are captured combatants, not slaves. Also Penal Battalions were a common practice as both the Nazis and Soviets used them, even on the front lines.
the amount of people who reduce your criticism to 'they must secretly hate the series because Woman Doctor' kind of feels misogynist in its own way to me. like these people think the only noteworthy thing about the new series is Woman Doctor and the only thing that matters about the new doctors personality is Woman Doctor.

I don’t know why people get mad about constructive criticism
Because internet man said mean angery things about thing I like
MHM They just don't like opinions that contradict their own
Because some people tie their whole personality to things that they like.

It's certainly a fact that video is 5 hours long.
@@Edax_Royeaux slight over five hours...
I guess people don't like wing punctuation about numbers.

Rob / : )
People on the internet

watching this Video here and then pretending
to totally know what it contains.
What sheer embarassment.
Never watched Stargate?
This is exceptional and I hope he sees your comment.
For reasons like your own, this is why I firmly believe that media (including grainy, B&W, 13" TV shows) can be so overwhelmingly influencial. And having your reason for being more-than-a-fan abandoned by the creative team feels personally insulting. Therefore, it's not, "change is bad" as the battle cry; but, "this affects me deeply and I don't believe that I can support its continued existence".
Unrelated but thank you for sharing that image of a ketchup sandwich made me very grateful for the things I had growing up.. bless you sir

I've seen hour long videos about how the "global elite" aka Jews are taking over the world

People love to make dismissive blanket statements instead of acknowledging the fact that someone made a valid criticism of their favorite media. I wish he'd just ignore the folks on Twitter. These people are acting high and mighty for not liking a TH-cam video they haven’t watched yet and claiming baselessly they the video is arguing in bad faith. The worst part of all of this though is that I’m not surprised it’s happening. What has the world come to?

My biggest surprise is that one of them (that Martin) was actually a journalist.

Almost like twitter is a website designed for people who's core personality trait is outrage (sometimes their only personality trait), and them actually watching the video would not let them express their only sense of self.
This is why I'm on Tumblr
I find it funny and mildly annoying that there seems to be an unspoken assumption that the person making this was a sexist cishet man, when it's actually an openly liberal trans woman
Big corporations aren't stupid. They don't give two shits about diversity and inclusion, they embrace it because it's very convenient for them when voices critical of their sub-standard product can be immediately written of as cishet, conservative, patriarchal bigots and ignored. They like the fanbase dividing along political lines.
I don't think they're liberal
@@HamidKarzai Considering they're not American, I don't think they're liberal party alligned either.
I had no idea Jay was a trans woman, thanks for letting me know!
Aren't they non-binary?
That's a yike
Very good, ten points to Ravenclaw and the costuming department.

When I’m analyzing pop culture, your 5-hour vid is one of a handful I revisit to make sure my own analysis is clear, comprehensive, and logical. Thank you for your meticulous work! You are an inspiration.
Also to steal onion jokes.
The random Skeletor voice sounds just as surprising to Jay as it was to the rest of us…
I was so confused when i found this out;
I mean, sure, general backlash? I expected that.
But 'Length-Backlash'?! I legit didnt knew that was a Thing.
Since when is Length equal to bad Quality?!
I literally always connected it with 'Effort', which of course
is a part of Good Quality.
I mean, regardless of the Content (which in this case, was epic;
evidend by how many people watched it all),
this is a good thing?
Long Video = Positive, yes?????
?
Anyway: Such people as calling someone Hater

You must be very dead then ;)

It’s amazing how much worse the insults hurled at Jay are than anything she said about Doctor Who. “The characterization is superficial at best and contradictory at worst” vs “you’re a shit person who wastes time that could be spent on creative endeavors.”
It's twitter. They only know is hate
Welcome to toxic positivity
In fairness Jay had some amazingly sick burns, like the Timeless Child episode being "written by Chris Chibnall... presumably with crayons".

honestly, i will probably watch that five hour video again and again. it's not only a fun and interesting watch, but it's also a masterclass in what to do and what not to do when writing characters, and as a writer i learnt a lot. thanks for making it!
Any time someone assumes you only hate a series because a character in it's a minority even if your criticism and dislike of it has nothing to do with minorities is usually projecting.
I have only ever watched 3 Doctor Who episodes and i still watched the whole 5 hour video

@@kristofer530 Oh fair enough. "Blink" despite only containing about 5 minutes of the doctor on screen is considered a starter episode that if you don't like you probably won't enjoy the series.
It was back when David Tennant was the doctor. I'd recommend it but if you're pretty sure the show isn't for you then fair enough. 😃
