    Even putting time stamps in the description?!?! You sir, are a saint!

    Just what is needed at a perfect level of detail. A plus is you giving your reasoning for how and why you are doing it a certain way. These videos will save a lot of people a lot of time. Please be sure to include mistakes. Thanks.

    Looking great!
    I found a digital level to be incredibly valuable for things like setting angle of incidence for the tail and wings, control deflections, etc.

      I tried using my phone but didn’t know how trustworthy it was. I should get a legitimate digital level if it’s something I’ll use more than once. Appreciate the tip!

    you guys are cruising right along, awesome! So cool to see you working together. I've suggested to my wife that we should build a model 5, she hasn't said No yet.

      More hands make less work! Amanda has been enjoying the build. She just ordered supplies to start working on the seats. I hope you and your wife get to enjoy a build together as well.

    Great video. Very informative. Now I know what the little bearings in my LSA kit are for! That part of the elevator installation really had me stumped. I'll watch all of your other videos now.

    What is your expected build time? I really want to do this but with kids it’s probably a couple years before I have time. I’ll have to keep flying the Cherokee 6 for now. I know it’s early but have you decided on an engine?

    • @ColbyOsborn
      @ColbyOsborn  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've been saying 2-3 years, but I really have no idea. There are plenty of people that build Bearhawks from kits in a year or less. Given my lack of experience, being a slow worker, the fact we need to make a lot of big purchases still, we still make time for other hobbies and activities, and trying to document everything on this channel; it's going take me longer than many others. The good news is we're motivated since we don't currently own a flying plane!
      Right now I'm thinking either a 260 hp parallel valve iO-540, or 300 hp angle valve iO-540. Any advice or input is appreciated!

    • @nathanpfost3462

      @@ColbyOsborn I am flying the 260 O540 in the Cherokee 6 and it’s a great engine in that plane. I live in Michigan though so we are fairly flat and low. I am guessing you are close enough to the mountains you may want the bigger engine. If it’s just going to be the two of you and the dogs I bet the 260 would be plenty. However...you’ll never have to wonder if you just go big. In the Cherokee it’s about 5 knots and 3 GPH difference I believe but hot and high you’ll be happy with 40 extra hp. I’m sure you’ve already read the same thing. I am going to follow along enviously as you build!

    • @ColbyOsborn
      @ColbyOsborn  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think the extra hp would be a nice to have for me, but I probably wouldn’t utilized it much. I also think the extra weight on the nose with the angle valve 540 would make it easier to haul heavy items in the cargo area. I’m under the impression flying the 300 hp 540 at the same speed as the 260 hp 540, the fuel burn would be pretty similar.

      Hey Victor, that’s exciting you’ll have a kit in the queue soon! Unfortunately I haven’t been tracking my build hours. I don’t have a personal interest in knowing how many hours I’ve spent and tracking my very fragmented working hours would’ve been a bit of a pain. So I’m sorry to report that I haven’t kept track. If I had to guess, I would say I have ~300 hours in it so far. But being a guess and not knowing what my percent completion is, I realize it’s of little value to you. Appreciate the compliment on the channel and hope you enjoy building as much as we are!

      @@ColbyOsborn thanks for the reply Colby. My wife and I both work so we’d be chipping away most days after work and weekends. We’ve been following your progress over the past ten months.
      Do the both of you have jobs as well? How and where do you schedule time to work on it? Knowing how you guys fit this into your lives will be extremely helpful 😁

    • @ColbyOsborn
      @ColbyOsborn  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@victorstark7925 we both have full time jobs but fortunately only work 40-45 hours a week. We spend a lot of weekends running around, helping back at the family ranch, and social activities. We probably spend less than half of our weekends working on the BH. We do work on it for a few hours most evenings. Probably 4 out of 5 nights. I was thinking it would take 2-3 years for us. I don’t really know if we’re on track for that or not.
      If you guys are planning to spend a lot of your weekends and weeknights working on it, and you don’t plan to film/edit/narrate/find questionable music to kick out a video showing what you’ve done, I bet you’ll progress much faster than us. If you get a kit ordered soon, you might beat us done!

    What is the thickness of these pipes?

    • @ColbyOsborn
      @ColbyOsborn  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are several different tubing sizes used in the tail feathers. Most have a wall thickness of 0.035 or 0.049.
