Beautifully played. How can anybody familiar with the music think this is "bad taste?" The Mulcaheys are some of the most tasteful trad. players there are. Everything is approached with delicacy and understatement. Their playing is free of the kind of ego-driven mania characteristic of, say, Noel Hill. These are beautiful tunes played simply and with great lift.
to set the facts straight, the mulcahys' lovey recent cd warmly acknowledges noel hill as a major influence on the playing of the young lady on concertina here. the concertina here is indeed more ornamented than spare, but concertina offers vastly more ornamentation options than fiddle. whether and how to exercise them is a stylistic choice and is not necessarily tasteless. i prefer the spare style, but the records by noel hill and those by this family are in impeccable taste.
The first tune, a Hornpipe, popular in the South, is recorded by Murphy & Clifford. Noticeable here is the massive decoration to what is essentially a Sliabh Luachra fiddle tune, which OC has barely any decoration at all. A case of take an old antique and cover the french polish with gaudy colors. Bad taste... I think but I maybe they did not know what they were at.
I'm a Texan and i think this is awesomer than American music BY FAR!!! at least modern american music (which mainly consists of pop and rap...not that good!)

Their CDs are permanently loaded in my CD player; brilliantt musicians -- and lovely peopls! :-)
You will not find a better trio than the Mulcaheys, pure tradition, quality and in a league of their own. The apple doesn't fall from the tree.

Thank you SO much for posting this! The Mulcahys are about my favorite musicians ever. Michelle's harp playing and Louise's piping are brilliant, too.

Portuguese concertinas are the Best in the world!
But this is an Irish concertina, Portuguese concertinas are actually wet-tuned diatonic button accordions.

very clever!
Let's see... If I start practicing now, I could play the concertina like that by the time I'm 112 years old!

I agree it is a fine video. However, I see no point in knocking Noel Hill in the course of defending it. He is a fantastic concertina player.
if u are famliar with Sliabh Luachra u are probably aware of the expression "pedantic Lang!"
i was assuming u were being serious
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH no no NO
