- A&Z #1003 - Randy Santel vs the "Crucible" Barbecue Eating Challenge w/ Ribs, Smoked Brisket, & BBQ Sandwiches hosted by Otts BBQ in Burns, Tennessee. After leaving Memphis, TN as part of my Midwest USA Food Challenge Tour, I stopped at Otts BBQ in Burns, Tennessee just west of Nashville, TN. I was the first person to attempt and help kick off the brand new Otts BBQ "Crucible" Barbecue Eating Challenge which featured lots of delicious food items from their menu. Wesley and Victoria are the owners, and Wesley is a retired Marine, which is where the "Crucible" Challenge gets the name from. I had 1 hour to finish. There were 2 signature BBQ sandwiches, the "Loaded" and the "Mess," each loaded with smoked meats and toppings. There was a full rack of St Louis style pork BBQ ribs plus large portions of juicy chicken breast, smoked beef brisket, and smoked sausage. It all came with 5 sides of my choice, and I ordered macaroni & cheese, green beans, coleslaw, potato salad, and baked beans. I was trying to become the first champion to win my $90 meal free plus a sweet t-shirt and spot on the Otts BBQ Wall of Fame. BIG thanks to Wesley, Victoria, and everyone with Otts BBQ for the wonderful barbecue foods, drinks, and hospitality!! Special thanks also to the amazing people who came up that Tuesday evening in June to watch and meet me!! Otts BBQ's "Crucible" Barbecue Eating Challenge w/ Ribs, Brisket, & BBQ Sandwiches ($90):
- Otts BBQ opened in Burns, Tennessee back in September 2020, serving up tasty barbecue.
- My friends Wesley and Victoria Otts own it and Wesley is a retired Marine, which is where this "Crucible" Challenge gets the name from. The Crucible is a test every recruit must go through to become a Marine. It tests every recruit physically, mentally, and morally, and is the defining experience of recruit training. The Crucible takes place over 54-hours and includes food and sleep deprivation and over 45 miles of marching. Thank you to everyone who has served for your military services!!
- There are 2 signature BBQ sandwiches featured, the "Loaded" and "Mess," each weighing ~1lb.
- There is a full rack of BBQ pork ribs plus chicken breast, sausage, and smoked beef brisket.
- You get to order 5 different tasty side items as part of this challenge. I ordered macaroni and cheese, baked beans, green beans, potato salad, and creamy coleslaw.
- There is a 1 hour time limit for this challenge. Please call ahead if you are interested in trying it.
- Winners earn the $90 barbecue meal free, a sweet t-shirt, and spot on Otts BBQ Wall of Fame!!

Good to see a challenge not is not overloaded with french fries and/or onions rings. This challenge was huge but it was all good looking home cooked foods.

I just want to say thank you!! I found you by watching Katina eats kilos… I watch you both late at night.. my husband was killed in April of 2021 in a hit and run. I’ve been battling depression and all the legal stuff that comes with it and when it becomes too much I turn you guys on and somehow I can smile.. even if it’s just for a moment. Honestly, sometimes the sheer amount of food you eat just seems physically impossible for a human. It's a combination of impressive and unbelievable.
Randy has probably consumed more food than any other human being in history.

Randy, get a collapsible led video kit, standard 3 point light, runs off of lithium rechargeable or power cord, easy to set up and carry on your trips for low light situations !
Looked great!, and good on them to start from the ground up after serving. I have a few buddies that were marines and did tours, and went down hill. Congrats!
