Joker asks "What happen to a man after one-bad-day?" Telltale asks "What happen if, in that one-bad-day, you still have someone standing by your side?" I absolutly love this version of Batman-Joker.
I love this too. This game really challenges you to cast aside pre-conceived judgments and prejudices, to see humanity in the worst of villains, to have the courage to lend a helping hand to pull them back from the edge.
We have seldom seen the man who would become the Joker. Many authors have taken their shots at imagining what makes a man who would become the Joker--budding sociopath, traumatized child, or one bad day in a normal person's life. This is the most sympathetic version of him I have seen. And it also brings up the concept of being present when John Doe is on the edge of descending into the darkness. Do you watch him fall, do you push him...or do you reach out to pull him back? I think this is the most powerful part of this game. What if you had the chance to keep a monster from being born? Maybe you can't make his entire life normal again, but maybe you can help him handle his demons, make them work for him like Batman's demons work for him? John is still fragile, but if you can help him, encourage him, stand by him...maybe you can kill the Joker without spilling a drop of blood. (Edit: Grammar. Also, wow. My most popular comment.)
That was well said. I'll be honest, I don't really find everything in the game to be well executed but their concept is so unique and interesting that it makes up for everything else. I just kinda don't like the fact that Telltale's portrayal of Batman is kind of incompetent compared to other portrayals in film or comics, I mean how many more people are gonna find out he's Batman. I do like how they make Bruce the more active persona.
I really appreciate the fact that they didn’t forget Alfred’s trauma. It just proves a point that no matter how old, how young you are, no one deserves to go through a traumatizing situation. And it also reminds us that we should treat these people with utter respect, no matter who they are.
I really hope they don't have this heroic Joker thing ruined in the 5th episode just for the sake of staying true to the Batman mythos. I've honestly found this story more compelling than anything else Batman related because it does something unique.

The way i see batman is he doesnt trust anyone but himself and alfred and i think he just sees villians as sick people who if they step out of line need to be punished so some times i make him just a dick

i like this change of phase, joker may be always bad if not Freakishly inhuman but its nice to see a change of phase on the characters as harley quin in this game is the bad guy and using joker this time unlike the other version of joker and harley
He goes into extremes when people from the Agency try to shoot him. There are strong hints that the Agency has something to do with what happened to John before Arkham, that's why he was tagged as a 'person of interest' by Avesta & Blake and later he said Avesta looks familiar. It's a repressed traumatic memory.
Goodness was this an awesome and insane episode!!! Not only was the opening fight with Bane and Freeze in my opinion the best fight in this season so far, but every scene with John was super intense. Really happy to see him on the path of a vigilante while others who want him as full on Joker can also have that ending. Really interested to see where vigilante John goes in the final episode cause that design looks so cool lol :)
Thank you :) what kinda worries me is that since John's view of justice at the end of this episode was abit too extreme, chances are that it could lead to batman having to stop vigilante John. But I really hope we can still help John on his path of good and maybe team up with him to take down the agency batman and robin style without the need of a bat credit card lol.
Agreed, If waiting longer for it to come gives them time to give us an final episode where the good john and joker paths can be very different then that would be worth the wait. specially if they are going out of their way to make two different models in the shadows like that.
Wow! The battle between Batman VS Bane and Mr Freeze, that was so astonishing, due to violence. I liked how John Doe stopped Mr Freeze from freezing Batman. Bane wasn’t as tough as he used to be back there, even with a venom syringe injection. I feel too bad about John Doe receiving a black eye from Harley Quinn.
Y'know, I think John knew way before the whole laptop thing, I think he knew since the first season, when they first met, he was saying that he knew the real Bruce, I think he already put two and two together, and the fact that you can choose which side he can be on is incredibly amazing, I'd rather John be good than the Joker
Thegaming Monster I'm not saying Heath Ledger was a vigilante, I was saying that the good ending for John kinda reminded me a little bit of the Heath Ledger joker. They're not the same, but their views on how even those with authority can be monsters are kinda similar.
Not sure why so many people dont like this version of the joker. Personally i think its been refreshing to see a new take on him. At first i was extremely wary around him but as time went on i started thinking i might be able to prevent the joker from existing and have john instead. At this point im convinced that john doe is an entirely different person than the joker. He definitely has the potential to be the joker, but he isnt yet and might never truly be. Telltales version of batman turned a lot of traditional elements on their heads, it has kept me guessing about everyone and everything.
I know I’m four years late but I’ll say it anyway. Alot of us are tired of “FrEsH NeW TaKeS” on the same character. Just make a new character. Joker being a crazed push over instead of the psychotic gang lord doesn’t sit right with Alotta long time Batman fans.

I want to put this theory out there before the final episode announced. People seem to worry about how Telltale will handle John Doe/Joker scenario, and not copping out like what they did to Harvey/Two-Face. I can think of a route that would pay off a meaningful choice with limited outcome. In Ep.5 the final confrontation could happen in the church(the place John and Bruce first met in this season). John/Joker capture a group of hostages and threaten to kill them all. As Joker- Joker will capture a bunch of civilians purposefully to challenge Bruce to come and save them. Batman will go there and have a final fight with him. In the end, Joker lost and get arrested. As John- John will capture a bunch of Agency agents, to kill them as a punishment for abusing their power. Batman will go there and have an(obvious) option to talk him down. In the end, John surrender. In SS2 epilogue. John/Joker was sent to Arkham. As Joker- Bruce goes to Arkham as Batman, Joker said to him that they will be mortal enemy, and he's looking forward to fight Batman again. As John- Bruce come to check on John if he settles back in okay. They have a little friendly chat, John mentions how it's good that Arkham still feels like home to him. In SS3. While dealing with a new villain(s), Bruce needs some information from John/Joker. As Joker- Batman goes to Arkham, and having a Hannibal style conversation with Joker, getting a cryptic information out of him. Joker claim he just wants to see how Batman will deal with this new villain. As John- Bruce goes to visit John as regular basic. After disabling security camera so they could have some privacy, John tells Bruce what he wants to know, with a side comment about this new villain. Before Bruce leaves, John wishes him good luck, and said he'll be the welcome party for this villain if Bruce decides to send him/her to Arkham. What do you think? With this, we'll still have a different outcome regarding the choice we made, but it'll allow Telltale to reuse a lot of resources for each event.
I’ve always payed close attention to the music in this game, and every time the “Joker” music comes on, it just makes me immediately think of him. The music suits the character so well. And that’s one of the reasons that I believe this is one of the best jokers. (Video game wise)

Buster The Bear dude. You know why he even became a villain? To get the money to try and save his DYING WIFE. Who he put in a cryostasis chamber so she wont die. He cant get a normal job due to the accident. So hes FORCED into a life of crime!
Female asura Yes. Tragedy does change you but in my eyes it doesn’t justify killing innocent people. For example in episode 3, while these people were criminals he killed a shit ton of Bane’s men just to test his powers. I won’t judge you for pitying him but I don’t feel bad for him

Thanks for uploading this and showing us the right things to say to John/Joker at the funhouse. I watched someone else's playthrough of the game, and although he got Bruce to convince John that he still trusts him, he made Bruce say some things that almost could have turned John against him. Seeing the choices you made during that scene made it so different, and yet still a little intense since this game still makes any interactions with the Joker very tricky.
i played the entire episode siding with John Doe. I'm glad I did because at the end of the day it was the Agency who looked like the real bad guys to me. My JD was reliable and trust worthy even at the most conflicting moments. I stood for him and he did too. I'm glad I was able to shape him like that in my playthrough.
Shame we never got Poker Night At The Inventory 3, John would’ve been perfect at the table. “Oh don’t mind me, I’ve got a friend with some deep pockets muhahaha.”
John Doe is such a fresh new take on the Joker. I've enjoyed almost every version of him, this version of him is both surprising and welcomed. He keeps you on your toes, doesn't he? I am happy that your choices showed him human decency and kindness.
In the alternative scenario where you go into Sanctus as Bruce, Harley would choose to have Bruce by her side as co-leader when they first confront the Sanctus guard/receptionist, because Harley likes Bruce a lot. The rest of the Pact, including Bane, were outside the Spa. “Just gotta take out one itty bitty guard, then we can get the rest of the gang inside." In this scenario, Harley would have Bane as co-leader by her side instead on the frontline, and the rest of the Pact, including Catwoman, following later. That's why the guard/receptionist was torn into half.
Really good video. I did the episode myself before watching this and now I understand why I see a different outcome here when John embraces you without options to say something. In my episode, I chose to be a bit doubtful on what John told me and we had a little scuffle (in which I decided to avoid his hits), but in the end when I told him I still trust him, he was speechless and he embraced me much longer and I had something to say about it (I told him, "We should get out of here."). I'm amazed that my side of being a bit more cunning than honest with slightly different choices made John react in a different but still positive way.
The joker from this game is just like Christopher Nolan version. He an anarchist that doesn't like the way the world is as opposed to a straight up psychopath
This one hasn't shown much signs of anarchy. This Joker just seems to prefer people who treat him decently. If they don't, he goes nuts. But if they're kind to him, he's kind right back.
The Christopher Nolan version was not an anarchist. He just liked chaos and destruction, as Alfred said, “some men just want to watch the world burn” Anarchism is about order among madness and the belief that true freedom means no type of government.
She wasn't his ally at that time, so I don't blame her. I had a problem with her destroying Riddler's blood in haste, which escalated the situation with Harley at the bridge. She should have waited.
John said that the reason he fell for Harley is due to her recklessness, how she escalates things into violence.. if there is any hope for Bruce to pursue a romantic relationship with John, I’d say the final fight, the event where chaos is prominent, where John witnesses Bruce literally body slamming and punching anyone who tries to hurt him(after all John gets the most excited when he sees how violent Bruce can be).. I’d say this is when John truly falls in love with Bruce. ....Or hey, Bruce reels him in with the kindness and positive support Harley didn’t give him . Any works good. Sorry I just really want Bruce to be able to get with John romantically.
The Strong- He's strongly fixated with "Batman". It is love in the sense of chaos and killings for the joker. Go watch Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns/Red hood comics. This thrill Batman gives him is exciting.
The funny thing about the icebox scene at the start is it just might not have been possible. I know phones can freeze or go into stasis when if it gets too cold. Bruce would've been cooked, or "freezed", in this case. Oh, the fantastical storytelling of fiction...
I got the Vigilante ending too and I also let him stab Waller. John did take it too far in the end though. I really hope Telltale doesn’t go the predictable route and make it so I have to end up stopping John and bringing him in. I really hope there’s an ending where John truly becomes good and an ally for the eventual season 3

He couldn’t have possibly known that the Pact would opt for outright carnage considering Harley was for discretion pre Riddler’s death. And in this one? After her forgave her for her supposed “blackout” during the Pact raid?! It really solidifies that Bruce’s understanding is on a full collision with others’ agendas, and he needs to make his fairest judgements to bring the best outcome.
Imagining John in the Batcave, or living with Bruce in the mansion. Why do I think of John as a Vigilante, putting on a high-advanced herosuit, that is modeled after Batman with a few jokeresk designes. John : Its going to be so much fun!!!!

Before Bruce leaves, John wishes him good luck, and said he'll be the welcome party for this villain if Bruce decides to send him/her to Arkham.
What do you think? With this, we'll still have a different outcome regarding the choice we made, but it'll allow Telltale to reuse a lot of resources for each event.

I’ve always payed close attention to the music in this game, and every time the “Joker” music comes on, it just makes me immediately think of him. The music suits the character so well. And that’s one of the reasons that I believe this is one of the best jokers. (Video game wise)

Thanks for uploading this and showing us the right things to say to John/Joker at the funhouse. I watched someone else's playthrough of the game, and although he got Bruce to convince John that he still trusts him, he made Bruce say some things that almost could have turned John against him. Seeing the choices you made during that scene made it so different, and yet still a little intense since this game still makes any interactions with the Joker very tricky.

My choices were hella batjokes-y this episode...no regrets, though
i played the entire episode siding with John Doe. I'm glad I did because at the end of the day it was the Agency who looked like the real bad guys to me. My JD was reliable and trust worthy even at the most conflicting moments. I stood for him and he did too. I'm glad I was able to shape him like that in my playthrough.

John Doe is such a fresh new take on the Joker. I've enjoyed almost every version of him, this version of him is both surprising and welcomed. He keeps you on your toes, doesn't he? I am happy that your choices showed him human decency and kindness.
In the alternative scenario where you go into Sanctus as Bruce, Harley would choose to have Bruce by her side as co-leader when they first confront the Sanctus guard/receptionist, because Harley likes Bruce a lot. The rest of the Pact, including Bane, were outside the Spa. “Just gotta take out one itty bitty guard, then we can get the rest of the gang inside."
In this scenario, Harley would have Bane as co-leader by her side instead on the frontline, and the rest of the Pact, including Catwoman, following later. That's why the guard/receptionist was torn into half.

Really good video. I did the episode myself before watching this and now I understand why I see a different outcome here when John embraces you without options to say something. In my episode, I chose to be a bit doubtful on what John told me and we had a little scuffle (in which I decided to avoid his hits), but in the end when I told him I still trust him, he was speechless and he embraced me much longer and I had something to say about it (I told him, "We should get out of here."). I'm amazed that my side of being a bit more cunning than honest with slightly different choices made John react in a different but still positive way.

This one hasn't shown much signs of anarchy. This Joker just seems to prefer people who treat him decently. If they don't, he goes nuts. But if they're kind to him, he's kind right back.
The Christopher Nolan version was not an anarchist. He just liked chaos and destruction, as Alfred said, “some men just want to watch the world burn” Anarchism is about order among madness and the belief that true freedom means no type of government.

She wasn't his ally at that time, so I don't blame her. I had a problem with her destroying Riddler's blood in haste, which escalated the situation with Harley at the bridge. She should have waited.

John said that the reason he fell for Harley is due to her recklessness, how she escalates things into violence.. if there is any hope for Bruce to pursue a romantic relationship with John, I’d say the final fight, the event where chaos is prominent, where John witnesses Bruce literally body slamming and punching anyone who tries to hurt him(after all John gets the most excited when he sees how violent Bruce can be).. I’d say this is when John truly falls in love with Bruce.
....Or hey, Bruce reels him in with the kindness and positive support Harley didn’t give him . Any works good. Sorry I just really want Bruce to be able to get with John romantically.

I got the Vigilante ending too and I also let him stab Waller. John did take it too far in the end though. I really hope Telltale doesn’t go the predictable route and make it so I have to end up stopping John and bringing him in. I really hope there’s an ending where John truly becomes good and an ally for the eventual season 3

That cruel retort really is the beginning of Waller’s “impartial” unraveling. He couldn’t have possibly known that the Pact would opt for outright carnage considering Harley was for discretion pre Riddler’s death. And in this one? After her forgave her for her supposed “blackout” during the Pact raid?! It really solidifies that Bruce’s understanding is on a full collision with others’ agendas, and he needs to make his fairest judgements to bring the best outcome.
Waller is awful. I never liked her.
