  • Easy steps to Reduce STL file triangles & size with Meshmixer and then import them to Tinkercad. A great skill when you are working with Thingiverse projects you want to modify the file size or triangles.
Mesh Mixer is a fabulous free tool from Autodesk. I am barely scratching the surface of its potential so feel free to ask for more tutorials.

I have use Meshmixer before, also sometimes i cut a stl with a slicer, import them into Tinkercad 1 at a time then join them together

Good call! I love Meshmixer for separating large STL files I used. I have a few videos about that too. Very handy.

@@HLModTech I'm on my way to get one of those videos. I reduced the .stl down, twice. When I was finally able to bring it in to TC, it was headless. Reducing, then doing a plane cut and bringing it back together in TC might just be what I need. How do I thank both of you enough!!

Any tool or technique to smoothen STL file I get rough output with large traingles when i convert OBJ to STL format, I had tried the remesh of meshmixer but gives me a broken object

I love your tutorials, but, as badly as I want to utilize Meshmixer because I LOVE Tinkercad, I've downloaded it 4 times today. Started with the 32-bit and just got a crash and burn report every time I tried to open it after installation. Uninstalled and after 2 attempts, went with the 64-bit, and same story. Download, install, boot it, crash, and burn. Is there a trick of some sort? I have a really complicated .STL I want to print and I can't get it simplified to bring into Tinkercad. Any help at all is better than trashing my computer, which I'm tempted to do at the moment.

    • @HLModTech

Are crashing when you load the complex file or just when meshmixer launches?

If you want to reach out via email, hlmodtech gmail, you could share the file and I will take a look at it.

@@HLModTech Thank you so much for responding. You have no idea how rare that is. It was crashing the first launch after meshmixer downloads and installs. But after struggling with it for a while, I moved to the computer I have devoted to 3d printing and downloaded it again, and I was able to get it installed and working. So then I was able to use your awesome tutorial and get my eagle statue simplified enough to load into Tinkercad! Hubby will be thrilled. He wants to use this as an award for his FB photography group challenge. And I am thrilled because this stuff is just so much fun!! Thank you so very much for your kind willingness to help. It means a lot.

It is possible, the original creator did not make a solid project. Anytime you’re reducing like that, it’s not an exact science either. Those numbers can vary ton depending on the design.

@@HLModTech Thanks very much for finding that, which shows some clarity. Even though the problem of downloading 3.5 for mac is solved possibly, the "known security issue" is an issue for me, I also would doubt it supports arm macs. No huge deal, this is just a hobby for me. Thanks for you help.
