    • @19Prometheus89
      @19Prometheus89 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

@@jamiewilson5162 In the UK, only if the information was obtained legally. Capita/BBC, if prosecuting you for TV license offenses, would have to have obtained that phone information through petitioning a court for a warrant to gather that information. Yes, your phone is spying on you. That has been known for some time now. But that information cannot be used in a UK court of law without that warrant. Without the warrant the information was gathered illegally. The only other way your information could be used is if you are being surveilled by the intelligence services, but if they are looking into you then dodging your TV license is the least of your worries.

Their reply was unfortunately we cannot refund as we cannot monitor your usage so don't know if you have or haven't been watching BBC content at home. Even tho I sent them proof of me being in hospital. Even virgin media gave me 4 months credit eventually after a few emails and phone calls to them as they can monitor my WiFi usage but for the BBC the main wording. We cannot monitor you usage is the important part so they have no way of telling what your watch and when. I'm doing it legally and only watching catchup TV and Netflix which is only a little more expensive than a TV licence and far more content worth watching and of course no BBC iplayer 👍👍👍

I called today after searching their sh1tty website for a cancel form and ending up going around in circles. Took a few details for security - automatic voice system - all I told them was 'I no longer require a TV licence' and they were happy with that. Got a form on its way in the post to fill out, including a refund section as I cancelled my DD last night so they cant refund to my bank without my details. The bloke was professional and did not even try to scare me into keeping the licence. Cheers Jon, should of done this years ago :)

I cancelled my TV licence by phone a couple of months ago - I spoke to a very nice gentleman who took all my details, then informed me I would be receiving a rebate, as I pay by direct debit, which I subsequently did. Yet now I am starting to get these letters, and they are asking me to contact them (again?) if I want to avoid any more letters being sent to me. Surely someone has noted that I cancelled my licence, and that I've had a rebate? I no longer have a TV.

You don't actually need a licence for a TV just one to use a tv in a certain way , a phone ,computer ,tablet ,Xbox can be used in the same way so why is it called a TV licence?, Why do they not ask "have you got a computer that you watch live TV on ? ,You are stood at the door beside them so how can you be watching live tv?
If you were to invite them in and your tv,computer , tablet is not switched on receiving live Tv what can they look for ??, Do they stop people on the street and ask them to look at their phones to see if they are watching live tv??

Great vid. I've put it out there too for all those poor people inntimidated by this bullying nonsense. You talk a lot of sense and I hope other people find the courage to stand up to the BBC. It would force the BBC to concentrate on running errands their show as a proper business balancing their books. They've had the luxury of our money guaranteed every year without having to work for it. Cut down on some of the outrageous salaries paid to their 'stars', their own staff and frittered on unwatched channels and programming (some of their channels only have hundreds of viewers!).

I have told them a few times that I don't need one because I don't watch live tv. Not matter how many times you tell them. They still send out the letters anyway to try and scare people. I feel like the letters can be quite horrible and threatening too.

Have yet to see anyone get court summons or prosecutions when they are addressed to 'Dear sir/madam' rather than your actual name, and they can't do that if you don't answer the door or talk to them. I have been 'investigated' by them for over 15 years now and they still don't know my name (the most primary piece of evidence they would require to prosecute me) - excellent detective work there Columbo. The letters just go round on a circle ramping up the threats before the cycle resets itself and they start over from scratch again because they run out of words and things to say, so just ignore them. They just end up unopened in the bin now with all the other junk mail whenever they come through my letterbox now.

Goon turned up at my mates house while I was there in 2018 and had a police officer with him. Police knocked on the door and demanded my mate open the door as he had a warrant (WRONG!) . My mate panicking was going to let them in. I calmed him down and asked if he wanted ME to deal with the situation. He agreed and I told him DO NOT OPEN THE DOOR UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!. I went upstairs and stood on the windowsill and opened a small sash window. Asked the cop and the plain dressed bloke what they wanted. Again police officer shouted to open the door as they have a warrant . I asked the cop to identify who was with him he stated it was a licencing officer from TVL . I told the cop to STOP and listen to me for 1 minute . I told the cop 1) that his job was as an observer in a peacekeeping role ONLY and 2) the goon had LIED under oath to obtain a warrant without proof. I suggested he quickly contact his superiors to ascertain the exact role he was to play . Cop said you are pissing me off pal. I told him to go check ....he did ! He came back to the house and told the goon he couldnt do anything as this smart ass (ME) knows his rights. I was quick to point out to the cop its not my rights...its the law ! Best thing to do is the NO CONTACT RULE, as this chap says just say no thanks and shut the door . Make sure when you watch telly you cannot be seen from outside SIMPLES

    1) They have no right of access to your premises.
    2) They require a warrant and Two UNIFORMED Police Officers.
    3) If they show up on your front door & wave a bit of paper in your face claiming it's a warrant tell them to off & close the door in their face. Then IMMEDIATELY CALL THE POLICE.
    4) Refuse to answer any question they put to you.
    5) Do not sign anything.
They will try to frighten & intimidate you. They will get verbally very aggressive, seek to intimidate you & members of your family.
One important point to note. The Police are not there to assist them. The Police are there to keep the peace.
When they get in your face tell them to step back or you will consider them to be physically threatening you. If they try anything with another member of your family, tell them to back off or you will consider them s threat and act accordingly.
There is an extremely good chance that the Police will tell them to leave at that point so as to prevent a breach of the peace.

There is an air of desperation about these letters now. I think this is great as it shows they are on the ropes. I however think it’s bad as lots of people won’t realise the rules and be shoehorned into buying a licence.

He isSO right. These TV licencing 'officers' don't have any right to enter your house to check if you are watching 'live TV' and you most certainly should not let them into your house if they do call on you.
I've given up my TV licence and I've just received a letter from them telling me that they have accepted that I don't watch live TV, up to 2023 (why 2023, I have no idea! Makes no difference to me), and they've warned me that one of their officers may visit me before then to check that I've not watching live TV.
It's meaningless, because I don't have to let them into my home, and they have no right to enter my home....without a warrant from a Magistrates' Court, and, to get one of those, they would have to provide evidence to the magistrates that I watch live TV (believe me, I do know what I'm talking about). So, don't believe their 'scare' tactics.
I don't watch live TV, but that is meaningless anyway, because I won't be letting them into my house if they do turn up, and there is nothing they can do about it. As I said, they have no right of entry.
So give up that TV licence if you want to, and don't be worried about the TV licencing 'officers' turning up. As the man in the video says, don't invite them in and just close the door.

  • @Private-Hudson

They love when they get the poor single parent who sniffles and cries and promises to get a licence tomorrow.. they say they will 'help her'.. just sign this form and we'll get it all sorted. Problem is thats the document they produce in court as an admission of non payment. They WILL shaft you for their £20 commission. Never EVER sign anything from them.
