As a musicologist, and after 30 years of study, I have found Elvis Presley to be the greatest vocalist of any kind, ever. And, when I began this journey of study, that was not my thought. However, after one goes through his entire catalogue and realizes that this man sings more genres (even semi-operatic music) at a level of exceptionalism in all genres and finding no one else who has ever done the same, I must proclaim him honestly as the GOAT!
Totally..his catalog is huge and incredibly diverse. I love all kinds of music for over 50 years and love many of the great artists from the 40s to some of the new music today, but still, no one is as versatile as Elvis, he could sing rock, pop, R&B, county, ballads, blues, folk, and yes semi- operatic and so much more, and he masters them all, just incredible. Many of his 60s ballads are just beautiful and filled with passion and soul. On top of all that, no one is as instantly recognizable as Elvis and there's just something unexplainable and magical in his vocals and delivery that draws you in and grabs your heart, totally unique. As much as I love them none of the overrated greats can't compete with Elvis, they are nearly all one-trick ponies. He is criminally underrated, but I think some of this generation is starting to understand how special and unique he was in every way!... We won't see his like again for sure!
I saw Elvis in a concert where I lived in Maryland as a 17-year old in 1974 at the University of Maryland. As great as his voice was on records, on the radio, etc., his voice was soooooooo INCREDIBLE in person!!! One of the songs he sang was, "How Great Thou Art", which so powerfully effected me and helped strongly influence me to go from being a Jew to becoming a born again Christian after I went into the U.S. Air Force in 1975!!! I remember hearing on the radio when Elvis died on 8/16/77, and I was numb for several days. I will never forget him and all his incredible music and several of my favorite movies that were very good ...... "Love Me Tender", "Jailhouse Rock" "King Creole", "G.I. Blues", "Flaming Star", "Wild in the Country". Seeing the "Aloha From Hawaii" concert when it was first shown on TV in 1973, I never forgot especially him singing "An American Trilogy" - which was and will always be perhaps the most powerful and incredible song, performance, and especially performer I have or perhaps will EVER hear again!! WOW!!! God Bless.

Non stop there best.... My first concert when I was 11 years old dad raised me on Elvis I raise my kids and grandkids.. my son passed away at 30 years old and this is kind of like dedication tribute to him the song I love Elvis he is the most baddest MF that ever walked the face of the Earth..
I was born in Little Dixie in April 1957. I remember singing these 3 songs in church and school. We were proud of our Southern Heritage! I've told my family I want this song sang by this man at my funeral! I am Southern by the grace of GOD!

I like that one. I heard it on Elvis' gospel recordings. My dad, however, preferred the Gerry and the Pacemakers version. That's just how Dad was. Much as he loved Elvis, he believed the best versions of "Unchained Melody" and "You'll Never Walk Alone" were the ones by the Righteous Brothers and Gerry and the Pacemakers. He did like Elvis' version of "My Way", which my family chose to play at Dad's funeral because Dad did live life his way.

I do not practice or celebrate religion of any kind, but I have and always will listen to Elvis. That includes his Gospel records. That voice transcends all beliefs or views...and he was just simply, a great guy who brought good feelings to everyone he came across. A true American treasure.
Amazing. 45 years later I’m still watching this video. The day he died I was 12 and with my mom. She stopped the car on the side of a major highway and cried for a long time. I loved Elvis but it hadn’t sunk in for me until I saw that huge funeral. I’m 57 now and still listen to this song at least once a month.
Elvis was more comfortable with Gospel Music, and you can watch his face when he starts singing a Gospel you can see the Presence of the Lord come on him. The Grammy’s that Elvis received were all for his Gospel songs, he didn’t receive any for his secular music 🎵. My Mama saw him when she was a teenager, she held up paper and a pen for him to sign, but he signed her arm‼️ I asked if she took a picture of it, she said no, she didn’t think of that. One thing that I admire about Elvis is he didn’t get a big head, and always had a kind heart. I don’t think that there is a bad Elvis song, especially if he felt it deep down.

Apparently Elvis was open to many different religions. One of the symbols he wore was an Egyptian Ankh cross, the symbol for life.
