- Meet Zac - Zac is 10-years-old, has two sisters, and loves music, swimming and cuddles.
Zac was diagnosed with autism at the age of three. Zac has a particularly complex form of autism - he is non-verbal, doubly incontinent and his tip-toe walking has affected his gait.
This short film tells the story of Zac's diagnosis, the huge impact on his family, his parents coming to terms with what complex autism means and how the best option for their son is residential care & education, and their determination to get a place for Zac at Prior's Court.
The film also explores how the work of Prior's Court and our dedicated, training staff is already having a hugely positive impact on Zac's life, and on his family.

I thank you for sharing your remarkable story with us. My parent in laws faced the same situation back in the fifties. My brother in law Michael, was born with Down Syndrome and very intellectually compromised. In the fifties there were no resources, understanding, help or support o any kind. Your pain is so much like my in law’s that I was crying recalling the their stories. Finally their parish priest convinced them that Michael had to be placed in a residential facility. Finally in the late sixties a residence of outstanding opportunities opened up and Michael was one of the first to be accepted. Michael did remarkably well and so loved and cared for. He was born in 1956 and passed away in 2021. Michael had a happy and useful life thanks to the dedicated staff of Hunterdon Home in New Jersey, USA. Beautifully portrayed the constant angst parents of special needs children feel and deal with everyday of their lives. This is love. And often real love hurts. Bravo to Zac's Mum and Dad for giving Zac his best life ever. And I offer both a bear hug in recognition of their daily pain and courage. Beautiful.
How l feel your pain……rarely has anyone described so accurately the grief that comes with having a severely autistic child….not only for your loss but also for the loss sustained by your son-the love that you carry for you son yet you so desperately need help to care for him adequately… only those that have walked in your shoes understand your love and your pain…..May the road ahead get brighter and brighter for you both and your three children.
