    Didn't want to slam this into the video to potentially shatter the absolutely extreme momentum of the content, but recently I decided to significantly cut ads across the channel because automatic ad placement has been *a bit* obscene. The automatic ad placement option for this video featured nearly twenty five ad breaks and that's just insanit--
    EDIT: God fucking damn it lol th-cam.com/users/postUgkxDQZwBfbbVoGSkqKAp1vwVjbv1RmOpUJn

      Firstly, obligatory disclaimer that i enjoy your contents and respect you as a person, because the internet has made many kinds of direct innocent questions seem like a personal attack.
      Secondly, as someone with english as a second language and an overall linguistic nerd, i must ask; why "nearly 25" and not just the precise number of 24? Is it habit? A fixed phrase? Or because 25 is funnier than 24? Because to my non-native brain, a concrete 24 feels (slightly) more devastating an indictment to TH-cam's insane auto-ad than a vague-ish "nearly 25".

    • @DaveyGunface
      @DaveyGunface  ปีที่แล้ว +17

      If I'm being totally honest I was sleep deprived, counted twenty three the first time, then the second time I counted twenty four and I didn't have the will to count it up again so "nearly twenty five" seemed like a good compromise. Especially since Pre-Rolls and Post-Rolls exist, which can potentially add another break

    • @sponge1234ify
      @sponge1234ify ปีที่แล้ว

      Fair! My nerd brain immediately fired up on that phrasing, making the logical part unable to tell me to remember how exhausting editing videos are, and mine never breach the 15m mark, and as such that you miight not be in the mood to actually count. Hope the rest was nice, at least, despite TH-cam trying to mess it up at the last minute like that!
      Now, I _should_ comment on the video itself, but unfortunately I'm one of the endangered race of human that never touched Warcraft after finding out it wasn't anything like Minecraft "despite the name" when i was, like, 12. So all i can say that your narration and scripting is top notch as always. And thank you.

    In regards to Silvermoon's political stability I'd add a note about the marriage between Lor'themar Theron and Thalyssra prior to the happenings of Dragonflight, creating a strong bond between Silvermoon and Suramar or Blood Elves and Nightborne respectively, another people with strong magic that may be rather far away, but what does distance mean when you have portals.

    • @basedeltazero714
      @basedeltazero714 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      "what does distance mean when you have portals."
      A pretty nasty capacity limit. You may be able to travel instantly between portals, but their throughput is limited both by needing experts to create/maintain them, and their physical size meaning that you can only really walk through. Great for a few people walking from one side of the world to another, bad for moving tons and tons and tons of material.
      (Also apparently portals do not great things to the ley lines so you can't just Make More Portals unless you want to give yourself a negative space wedgie).

    I do think there’s another thing when it comes to defense/military aspect of both Ironforge and Stormwind…. They practically share a garrison due to the deeprun tram.
    If Ironforge is under siege and needs reinforcements/supplies. Deeprun Tram.
    Stormwind under siege? Deeprun Tram. The only way to feasibly siege either of these cities and be successful is to blitz the tram.

Are the stories often wild a little.... ass pully? Absolutely, but I just love the world those stories take place in, and no other of the big 3 MMOs has ever made me just want to hang out in it like wow does, and this video also showcases how good Blizzard has always been at matching environmental music with it's places. Dazar'Alor especially gives me chills and I'm mostly alliance.

    I think I would like to live with the dwarves in Iron Forge. Like, it seems well put together and one of the most defensive places is on a mountain, I imagine being IN the mountain is only better.
    I can’t imagine, like you said, anyone successfully laying siege to Iron Forge. You can’t lay siege to an entire mountain. That goes double for a mountain with an underground railroad, that they can ship imports and exports with. You’re not laying siege to them at that point you’re just being a minor inconvenience.

    I know this will mean nothing to anyone but I would like to point something out: Thrall DIDN'T cheat in the duel against Garosh. The version of that type of combat that everyone thinks is default *isn't*, and there's literally nothing against using external powers. In fact, it's normally encouraged, as it's a show of who is best at single combat in general, not who's best at exclusively weapon usage.

    Great video! I don't know much about WoW, but I love deep dives into worldbuilding. :)
    If you're really planning to continue this as a series, I recommend you check out the book "Virtual Cities. An Atlas & Exploration of Video Game Cities." by Konstantinos Dimopoulos and Maria Kallikaki. It's a fascinating journey through the history of video game cities ranging from really obscure ones to others that are more well known. There is also a section about Orgrimmar in there. It's a bit of a dry read, but insightful nonetheless, since the author is an expert on city planning.

    Ironforge is the only real answer. In all the lore the gates of Ironforge have never been breached. The Legion, Scourge, Blackhand's Horde, the height of the Frost Troll empire and even the elemental lord Ragnaros have all knocked at the gates but nothing with ill intent has ever walked passed those gates in the lore (In the game Ironforge is the easiest city to walk into as a Horde player). If your goal is to live as a bread seller Ironforge has faced nearly every major threat that has destroyed at least 1 major city of the other races with the sole exception of the Bastion of the Dwarves. The only threat you'd face as a citizen of Ironforge is some minor political tension between the 3 Dwarf clans currently ruling over Ironforge.

    Davey, I love ya and your content, I really do. You've provided me with many hours of entertainment. I've watched and re-watched nearly all of your content multiple times. It truly is great! So when I say this, please understand this come from a place of love: Stop removing and unlisting your videos. I beg you! Please!
    After watching this video, I went "Huh, he brought up that blind demon hunter play through he did. I kinda want to watch that again. That was good content." So I go off on a little journey to find it only to discover its disappearance. I even tracked down the Wowhead article to find a direct link to the video only to see that it was unavailable. That video was my introduction to your channel. It and the starcraft videos are what made me subscribe. Then you start putting out videos on other topics like pokedex warcrimes and Bethesda tomfoolery that cemented my decision to stay subscribed no matter what.
    I enjoyed your long form video about RPGmaker games and cringed (in a good way) at the sheer fuckery you got into for that Mass Effect video. It's clear you put in a hellish amount of time and effort for these videos. And you've certainly improved. Anyone with half a brain cell can see that. But don't remove the old stuff just because you think that they aren't up to snuff.
    Admittedly that's only what I think has happened. I don't actually know for sure why things are gone now, but this seemed like the most likely reason. Every step of this journey you've taken and shown us has value, especially the beginning, rockier parts.
    Sorry for the rant, my dude. Thanks for all fun.

      No worries about the rant captain, I totally get it! Honestly in retrospect I just didn't like the fact that the variety on my channel was pretty minimal to start with, and I didn't feel very happy about the quality of the content being released. I guess if it makes sense my goal was to make sure that anyone who clicked on my channel and looked at my catalogue would be able to see something they'd probably enjoy watching, but I can 100% agree that it eventually got too vindictive for lack of a better word. Glad you've stuck around for so much, and I hope I can continue to make comic antics that you enjoy :D

    33:21 I think its interesting how the denizens of this magical universe describe the force behind this disaster as some kind of magical corruption/plague. Because to me, the explosion of a technologically advanced facility causing deadly storms and an energy/force that permeates everything in the area down to the soil and surrounding sea? Which in turn kills, sickens, & mutates the native plants, people, & wildlife? Sounds a lot like just.. non-magical, very realistic radiation to me. Azuremyst and Bloodmyst Isle are radioactive af, Exodar was a chernobyl-level event.
    The real world force of radiation being interpreted as some kind of magic by the less-advanced inhabitants of a magical world is just such a fascinating little detail to me. It's also even more interesting how the draenei arent as affected by the radiation as the native life they feel responsible for harming in that starter zone.

  • @krel3358
    @krel3358 ปีที่แล้ว

    As an undead main from vanilla im quite triggered. I really liked the circular design of the undercity as it was quite easy to find everything and you cant get lost. Thunderbluff and orgrimmar have some odd layouts and npc quest givers that are hard to find while i particularly found that thunderbluff was difficult to navigate and landmark it.

    • @JJJBunney001
      @JJJBunney001 ปีที่แล้ว

      That might just be familiarity with the city as an unread main because as a blood elf, the last place I'd want to go is UC. It's like all the worst features of the other capitols rolled into 1

    • @krel3358
      @krel3358 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JJJBunney001 Well the bank is located in a central area that looks cool as hell while all the auctioneers are in a circle right around the corner which then links to all the quarters which have everything you need for profession mats/training. I havent really played wow since wrath but during vanilla when they added auctioneers to the main cities I made Undercity my home. I dont see any problems with it whatsoever. i really liked the atmosphere and music of thunderbluff but it wasnt really located near anything important and it was badly organized. I think within the scope of the version of WoW that I played the only viable home cities were either orgrimmar and UC because they were the only cities that had Zepplins and the fastest access to end game raids/dungeons. I dont remember much of Silvermoon other than the music was nice but overall I thought it was too bright.
      To me I think UC is kind of insane to have as a capital because its right beside western and eastern plaguelands so you have easy access to Western/Eastern plaguelands as well as having the option of taking a bat to kargath or take the zeplin to stranglethorn vale and flying from there to kargath. There are literally no downsides to having Undercity as your home city because it gives you the easiest access to all the game's content while having all the amenities you need to buy, sell and craft. Orgrimmar is just annoying because there were too many people there.

      It's still a literal sewer collector. Which is great for the undead, but you know
      Also it has weirdly zigzagging paths between the rings, which make me think they were built this way to delay potential attackers first, and to let people walk through them second. Also in line with the Forsaken and their paranoia

    • @DaveyGunface
      @DaveyGunface  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In game, yeah you can just stick an Ele Shaman or a Boomkin on each elevator and you win. In lore, once you're actually IN Thunder Bluff, you've probably more or less won the assault. Which when considering the utter lack of any type of 'air defenses', or really any sort of defenses around the North, South, or Western sides of Mulgore, you're gonna have a bad time.

    Stormwind: Ehh, it feels a bit weird to be like "oh yeah I'd totally live in the most boring, regular city in this fantasy world."
    Orgrimmar: Too hot, both literally and politically.
    Ironforge: Now we're talking. I like the cold, and it would be hot enough inside to not have to worry about bundling up if you don't feel like it. I'd like to live in the bit between the mystic quarter and the Great Forge, and go for walks out front in the cold.
    Thunder Bluff: I want to like it, but I'd be too nervous about falling or jumping off. It would be a nice community though. Also the battle is still in last I knew, it just mostly takes place at night.
    Exodar: It's so pretty though? I'm pretty sure I would be happy there, I live in Seattle so it's not like the rain would bother me, and you could work on like, picking up stuff to make the environment better in your day to day life, and that would be satisfying to me.
    Silvermoon: It's fine, I guess. My main is a Blood Elf but she doesn't really connect with the place.
    Undercity: Nnno. No, I don't think so.
    Shatt: No one wants to be there, man.
    Dalaran: I would get shanked and dumped off the side. It's got the highest chance of any of these places of giving you magic powers if you train, but I'd go there for an apprenticeship and once it's over flee promptly.
    Shrines: I'd visit, sure, but no way would I stay there. Now, the Temple of the Jade Serpent I'd go for. (I'm totally not just gay for Yu'Lon.) Maybe Kun-Lai, if the Yaungol were back in Towlong.
    Dazar'Alor: As a non-troll, I'd get bullied hard.
    Boralus: If I grew up there, sure, but otherwise I think I would be too intimidated. I get the feeling that there's a lot of anti-tourist sentiment.
    Oribos: Have you seen what Shadowlands cooking is like? If you have to eat, then Oribos sucks so bad.
    Valdrakken: There's too many players there right now for me to really explore the place. I feel like if I could fly it'd be fine, or if I had a dragon girlfriend, but otherwise nah. Alexstrasza is also ridiculously beautiful I mean

      WoW is a game that I think has some of the best lore in the entire industry, but paradoxically its actual stories are hit or miss. It's a world I adore and a setting that you can truly immerse yourself in, at the trade off that it's better to ignore whatever is currently happening in the universe and focus on the smaller things if that makes sense.
