Oooh, thanks for this video! I've been concerned about my 3-qt IP for a while, and just now I was cooking a cup of red lentils for 2 minutes and wondering why there was steam coming out the whole time. I'm glad to hear that this is normal for small quantities!
Man, now I feel so much better, just got it today and the initial test it started steaming and the countdown didn’t start , I just panicked and termed the thing off, apparently it was just adjusting, I’ll give it a try tomorrow. Much appreciated
Thank you! I'm cooking a 5 pound chicken for the first time and was wondering why steam was coming out before the button came up. It's stopped and the count down has begun.
Just got one and steam is blowing out from sides of the lid. Changed the ring to the red one and still does it. I'm thinking the metal retaining ring is out of spec.
On the steam release valve it shows what looks like a "wire" inside. I don't see that on my valve. I have had issues with sealing, so I replaced the silicone ring, replaced the float valve and the only other thing I can think of is that the steam release valve is bad. Should I just order a new one?

@@InstantPotOfficial I think I figured it out. Even though the float valve was up, the steam continued through the steam valve, so it would not come to pressure. I ordered a new one and should receive it on Monday. Thank you so much for giving me the link to contact them!
My ultra is leaking steam from the round valve, still spitting steam 15 minutes into the cooking process. Making chicken soup … I may have to dump the whole thing into a stock pot as I have no idea if it’s actually cooking properly. Will let it keep on sputtering and see what happens. I ordered a new valve, silicon gasket, and steam valve so that will be Plan B. Disappointing. Looks like I may only be able to use this pot reliably with the alternate “fryer” lid. Can we buy a new lid, vs replacing the whole IP?
It's unlikely you need a new lid. If the seal is old, it probably needs to be replaced. It may not be seated properly or may have gotten stretched out. Putting in the freezer will help to shrink it back up. If you have too much liquid in the pot, that could cause an issue as well, it should be no more than 2/3 full.
Darn still haven’t found a solution. My lid seal and floating valve are all good. When it’s set to seal, pressure continuously releases from the exhaust valve. Any ideas
Hello General RAMc. This sounds like it could be your pressure sensor. Please reach out to our Customer Care team for assistance with this at the following link: www.instanthome.com/customer-care-center
I have the same problem. I been using my instant pot many times before with no problem and now steam constantly come out of the release valve and it's set to sealing. I order a replace sealing valve and still same issue. Please advised.
My Instant Pot is leaking steam even when the release valve is in the sealed position. Have it for more than two years and it started last month. It is impossible to use because it releases a lot of steam. By the way I have it in Brazil. Any idea what can I try to solve this problem??? I’m thinking to order a new release valve. Should it work? Thanks.
None of this worked. I'm wondering if 1-2 cups of fluid is not enough to allow the steam release valve (handle is separate on newer models) Have never had an issue with my Instapot but have always made soup based meals.. this is the first time making meat with only about 1-2 cup of beef broth. odd.
Hello P C. The 6 quart Instant Pot needs 1.5 cups of liquid and the 8 quart needs 2 cups of liquid to come to pressure. If you are using the proper amount of liquid and you are still having trouble, we suggest that you reach out to our Customer Care team for assistance at the following link: www.instanthome.com/customer-care-center
I just bought an Instant Pot Lux 3 quart today. Water test failed. The steam release handle steams all the time on the water test. the float valve popped up but the steam kept flowing through the steam release handle. Timer never came on and most of the water was gone when I let it cool down. After watching this video I looked at the inside of the steam release handle and there is no metal pin. Does this smaller version have a different steam release handle than what you show here??
I have the exact situation, and as of 9 days have not been able to receive a response from Instant Pot.Support. Neither by email, instant chat or phone. I think I just need to replace the steam release valve, but can't get through. The only recourse is to return the whole thing on Amazon Prime and get another.
Hi GriffandDash I'm sorry that you are experiencing longer waiting times. Please message facebook.com/instantpot/ with your ticket information so we can assist you. Thank you
I cooked one salmon filet about 1/2 lb worth and the pin would drop but about one minute after it beeped for the countdown, steam started to release from the steam release knob and my fish wasn't cooked. The recipe said 3 min on high pressure. I just got my pot 2 weeks ago so I',m new to this, cooked pork, chicken, squash, potatoes, apples in it so far without this happening... so my question is, I guess this is normal with just one one fish filet? (my pot doesn't have numbers 1,2,3,4, etc on the inside so I can't tell if the food was below the number 2)
It sounds as though the release valve may not have been on sealing? You can do small amounts in the pot, as long as you meet the minimum liquid requirement for the size pot you have.
I have steam coming out all the way until it comes to “pressure” then while it is at pressure it is making a bunch of clicking sounds and then the food is coming out under cooked
I am doing the water test with a 10 quart IP Dup Nova. I started with 3 cups of water. Steam came out. after pressurization and after the clock started. Then increased to 4 cups, and then 5 cups. At 5 cups I got less steam coming out but it did come out through the steam release valve. So in essence 5 cups or more may be the right amount for the water test? Is this because it's only water that steam would come out after pressurization?
I made pasta and i waited 18 mins and then release the pressure with quick release. Floating valve went down and tried to open the lid. Lid wasn't sliding easily as it always does. So I let it sit 2 hours and it slided easily. Next day i was operating it and steam started leaking in the sealing position. I cancelled the cooking process and released the pressure. Floating valve went down and again the lid wasn't sliding to open easily and i had to wait another hour. What should I do? It's extremely stressful for me
It sounds like you need to check your seal. It may not be seated properly. If it is fitting loosely, try putting it in the freezer for a bit to help shrink it back up.
I cleaned the lid and parts and made sure the sealing ring is in place correctly. I run a water test. I did QR. Floating valve is down but lid isn't opening. It has been almost 2 hours. What should I do?
This is brilliant - I have returned two Instant Pots because of this problem and no one could tell me what was happening - thank you

What Id like is to have arrows not be black on black. Its difficult to see. It seems to be the norm with many appliances though.
you are so RIGHT!!!! What is it with product designers?!
I use a little dots of nail polish to help "see" the arrows are lined up. Difficult for me to see too.
THIS WAS SO HELPFUL...IT SOLVED MY PROBLEM. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

If you are still using the original seal, start by replacing that. Those should be replaced every 12-18 months.

The floating vent seal wears out along with the large sealing ring, and Instant Pot will not replace it.
I have steam coming out all the way until it comes to “pressure” then while it is at pressure it is making a bunch of clicking sounds and then the food is coming out under cooked
Steam will escape from the pin area until it pops up and seals.
Instant Pot do you know what the clicking sound is?
The pot does make occasional clicks as it cooking.
Thaaankyou!! Very thorough!!

The newer pots need a bit more water for the test run. When you are cooking the added weight of the food will be fine.

My instant pot won't make a quick release ! Help please ! Only used it twice and once I move the valve to " venting " nothing happens
If you move it to venting and no steam comes out, the pot never pressurized. instantpot.com/instant-pots-overheat-burn-protection/

My insfapot is blowing massive amounts of steam.. First time using it. This can't be good
Do you have it set to sealing?
