    I like how detailed you explain things. This thing can be very intimidating. Growing up I was taught how dangerous a pressure cooker could be so I avoided it like the plague. I didn’t even want to wash it 😂.

    Thanks for sharing and explaining! Everyone has been raving about these instant pots and here I am not understanding the concept of QR and NR. I kinda get it now I guess I was just more afraid of messing up and it explodes or something (I'll see blogs that say "yeah you can set it, take a walk and come back!"). I've also had the lid get stuck too and panicked haha. I can't wait to get the hang of this cause it's sooo much better than standing around the stove all day and watching the food cook.

    Ahhh Thank you never mind, about what you were pointing at for natural relates. I just read natural release is more of an inaction than action. Once the cook time counts down and the pot beeps indicating time is up, leave it alone. You’ll know that the pressure has been released once the float valve the red or silver pressure pin on top of lid drops back down in the lid, making a clicking sound.

    I’ve actually used my Instant Pot before (I was initially scared too, folks), but haven’t pulled it out for a few years since my husband went into hospice. I’d completely forgotten what the difference was between quick & natural, so when I read a recipe from an Instant Pot cookbook & it said quick release, I wanted to make sure I understood!
    Thanks also for reminding me that setting the time for, say, one minute does NOT mean that everything will be finished in one minute! It will take time for the pressure to build up!
    Hoping my Chicken Teriyaki turns out well! 👍🏽
    Edited to add: NOPE! Can’t get the pot to come to pressure! Followed the recipe. Checked again. After an HOUR of it not coming to pressure, stopped to quick release & start over. ZERO pressure had built up. Switched out the gasket ring, made sure it was in place correctly, started over again. In fifteen minutes, the timer had only gone down 15 seconds & it appears there is still no pressure! I’ve checked the lid to make sure it’s on right. Made sure that the release valve is in the correct potion (sealed). Incredibly frustrating when this was SO easy to deal with before, and now I can’t figure out what’s wrong with it.
    Edited AGAIN: Figured it out! The cookbook I was using referenced the controls for the newer Duo; mine is an older version, so I kept trying to use the "TIMER" feature for the four minute setting, instead of just hitting "MANUAL" and adjusting the time.

    Great description and very straight forward.
    Tip on closing the unit (short turn where it won't let you close it). It's that the heat inside is causing the pressure indicator to push up just enough to not let it close (rotate). If you press on the valve button (silver button on video here) it will allow you to turn it closed (or set the pressure release tab to open, then turn it back to clockwise (pressure valve closed position) after lid is back on.
    The little bit of steam pressure build up after initial opening is still enough to not allow the lid to close (similar to why the safety feature prevents you from opening it when the pressure is too high).

    Thanks for explaining this. I just got an instant pot and the recipe I'm going to try said to first use the natural pressure release and after 10 minutes, the quick pressure release. I had no idea what they meant. Also my instant pot is different from yours. I have a button that says "press to vent and turn to stop." I'm assuming this means I do nothing for 10 minutes and then press the button to do a quick pressure release. I hope I'm right.

What do you suggest we do if that happens again? Can we reseal it? Shall we be prepared by holding an umbrella over the pot?

    When should you use the keep warm?

  • @patrickmartin4941
    @patrickmartin4941 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    As a guy starting in with Instant Pot cooking I've wondered what to do with the "Keep Warm/Cancel" function key when doing a timed natural release.
    Pressing the "Keep Warm/Cancel" key has two effects on the Instant Pot.
    First, it secures the low level "Keep Warm" power going to the internal heater, and;
    Second, it turns the front LED display to OFF and you loose use of the count-up "L" timer.
    For a Quick Release OR Natural Release I always press the "Keep Warm/Cancel" key to turn the Instant Pot to OFF/Standby State. If I'm doing a timed pressure release, such as when doing hardboiled eggs, I don't turn the Instant Pot all the way OFF and lose the "L" timer because this display functions as a convenient timer.
    Also, my idea about how to always use the "Keep Warm/Cancel" function key is to always set to OFF before opening the lid.
    QUESTION: I've not seen any Instant Pot recipe that address what to do with the "Keep Warm/Cancel" function key during a TIMED pressure release. What is your guidence when the recipe is moot on this topic?
    Thanks for the well done presentation and the well documented recipes.
