Big fan of the channel. I’ve read Brian’s articles for years. Actually had Fox Ridge make a 20” .32-20 barrel for short range varmint shooting for my Contender after reading Brian’s article on the .25-20 lever gun. How about some long range shooting with the .25-20?

Supposing we can assume that everything will improve, I have seen the Holosun solar charged units fail on battery/power supply within the past 24 months. Battery life and operational longevity strengths being what they are, I see no reason for the pursuit of solar charging.
On rep alone I chose the Holosun 407K 6MOA dot sight. I change the battery yearly. Simple and quick. Never torture tested it, but it has been worn daily, for ~2.5 years, and traveled widely. It's been banged around, and pretty wet, if never yet submerged.
Flawless, to date, in every respect, I recall paying a tad over $200

Holosun makes a pretty good optic for the money. We will see how they hold up when I get to those tests.

I have a 507, it’s been great. I picked up the scrs when it came out, it’s a solar charging optic. Havnt had any issues with it YET but it’s bound to happen. Eventually the battery will stop holding a charge and need to be serviced, that’s my biggest gripe with it. The 507 only uses the panel if the battery dies so as long as the battery is good then no worries. I wish the solar charging optics had a user serviceable battery, let the solar panel charge the battery but make it to where i can buy an extra battery and swap it out myself.
I’ve left it in the safe for months and it’s never failed to be on when i pull it out so i don’t even know how long it takes before it’s dead. Maybe i should throw some tape of the solar panel and keep it awake and on max brightness until the battery dies and see if it comes back on as soon as i remove the tape.

@ Based on what I've seen, think about it before you put a pistol with a solar charged sight away in a box or safe for any length of time

Good stuff. My only gripe (not really a gripe but an oh no) is torturing and dragging an pistol that has an large open slide or cutouts. Mostly thats not a good candidate to be testing as mud and debris have an welcome invation to come on in. But good stuff guys i enjoy it.

I wanted to test my guns at the same time. They passed the mud test well.

Thanks guys. I might add that Vortex has a robust ambassador system with a good discount. Most gun folks likely know one of the Ambassadors, ask around before buying.

      @PearceBrothersGearGuide  8 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

They do but for the average person you'll find them cheaper in store. Their MSRP is high enough that an ambassador discount will land you around what most stores will have them at.

Those tests were fun to watch. The red dots got tortured, yes they did. As well as the poor pistols, lol

Love my rmr, it’s been great for the time I’ve had it,i picked it up used for 350. For features Holosun can’t be beat,I’ve had a 507 since they came out,it’s been dropped on concrete, submerged in water, frozen and ran on a 308 for 1k rounds and it’s still awesome. I also have an scrs,it was dropped onto a steel plate while attached to a rifle (i got it used from a TH-camr who tests optics) it has a ding next to the solar panel and kinda deformed the panel and I’ve had no issues with the battery life. When i take it out of the safe it turns right on no matter how long it’s been in there. With most holosun optics the panel don’t charge the battery the panel only takes over if the battery dies. With the scs and scrs the panel does charge an internal battery,so definitely bad if the panel gets broken or battery stops holding a charge.
I’ve yet to find an optic where the auto adjust works good,i havnt tried the new rmrs yet. I always just leave that off.
I may have missed it but did you do any further testing with the vortex after it shifted zero? Or just assuming the dial got turned? It’s a good idea to witness mark everything, i witness mark screws and zeroing dials, then if they get turnt i know it.

Good insight on marking to see if the dials turn. I re-zeroed the Defender but have not had time to run it through more testing. I will have more follow up videos as I continue testing. Eventually I want to torture test every brand out there.

Have you tried the Olight? I bought one after seeing Boge Quinn’s video. Have not used it yet, outside of just mounting it and doing draw exercises.

I've never seen a red dot sight that won't fail, thus I stay with iron sights on my serious use handguns.

Irons still get the job done. In a world of Red Dots I felt it was important to find the Toughest most durable options out there.

@ I agree, red sights are here to stay and your video was excellent. I have several on various platforms, but not on EDC guns. My point was if you are counting on a self defense firearm, simple is best.

Why did you decide not to test Sig? I think a 14 hour turn off has its place. I worked 12 hours shifts. While I never would've wanted a red dot on duty, I would've wanted it steady on and ready, the whole shift.

    • @PearceBrothersGearGuide

I have not tested Sig yet but they are on my list. Problem is I'm running on my own money. If I can get a contact at sig as we grow ill put one through a good test.
