I was assaulted at a LvL 4-5 yard, then moved to Maximum Security in another State. There were so many Staff assaults that daily I felt "When is my turn? Am I next?". Went to the ER 5-6 times after work, because I would always wait until my shift ended, thinking that I was having a heart attack only to be told after the 6th time of going that I was having severe anxiety and to Stop going to the ER. Now I am Out of Corrections, my PTSD is not under control, and 1 State wants to blame the Other so neither will step up and help me out, with pay, bernifiets or mental health. Just got left hanging out to dry.
Don’t feel alone I’m in the same boat right now state of Michigan has invested thousands of dollars in PTSD propaganda but they do not help you I’ve been out of work since September 2021 and they have denied me Sedgwick which is the state of Michigan 3rd party has taken everything from Me first my medical then my pay within the first month and I have not been mentally and physically well. yesterday I got my letter from the state asking me to show up or resign I’ve been diagnosed since 2018. State just dropped me. No help no nothing I’m trying to get better but I can’t fix my brain alone . 7 years level 4-5 assaulted by prisoner in housing unit,. Do not give up hire a lawyer.
If you work as a juvenile officer, your kids will notice and be effected by your personality changes and moods. You become hyper vigilant, worry about what your kids are doing and who they are hanging around with. They may not understand why you don't appear to be happy and smiling sometimes. Also your impatience and short temper at times can be very stressful for your family. They don't understand that it is hard to turn it off when you leave work.
The only thing that helps me is listening to Wayne Dyer explaining The Tao. I hope this helps a fellow CO or former CO . This job makes you a 'wolf'. It pushes you to confront the most rudimentary lowest common denominator of WHO and WHAT you are... You find out if you are either a Wolf or a Sheep. For those of us who habe been raised as well adjusted normal civil and pleasant and well meaning personalities this environment WILL chip away at you insidiously where you decided to NOT become a "sheep"... Therein lies the start of the fall of your better self in order to survive the company of wolves and predators.

It doesn't always take years, some of us are affected sooner
My Supervisor says he has been changed in the 8 years he's been in the jail.
I wish to God daily that i never took the CO test. What this occupation has done to me is horrible. Ive lost so much more than ive gained.
